[Q] Sim network unlock PIN: - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my Atrix 4g for about 10 days, never rooted or bootunlocked or anything like that, it's still 100% retail from AT&T. I've just made phone calls and fiddled with a few apps.
Today I had the bright idea to plug my old tmobile sim card into it thinking it'd boot right up and I could go into the settings and copy off some of my old contact numbers, I could always do it on older less than smartphones. Well it came up asking for a Sim network Unlock PIN. I didn't know what that was so I just took it out and put my old AT&T sim back into the phone, thinking it was just a failed endevour and that I would just go on about my business like it had never happened.
Well upon booting with the activated sim card the phone came with and the one I've been using... Much to my dismay, it's STILL asking for a Sim network Unlock PIN, I haven't the slightest idea what that is and I can't get past it unless I boot the phone up with no BP, then I can get into android and fiddle around on my wifi and do that kinda stuff but the Network Provider bars won't light up, it's like it has no idea who my cell provider is even though the at&t sim card is in it!
I'm at a loss, I called AT&T and I went into their store, but the most they could do for me was give me an 8 digit pin that didn't work and I found something on motorola's site that said something like 4digits of 1's and that doesn't unlock it either. They even gave me a new sim card at the store, and it's still asking for the Sim Network Unlock PIN. It's as if MOTOBlur has went ass up I did a factory reset after the new sim card, and yet it's still asking. I haven't the slightest idea what to do. AT&T said they'd just replace the phone and of course I'd probably be out of a phone for a couple weeks.
I'd be glad to try some troubleshooting if someone is willing to work with me.
Matt

bring your phone to a local at&t store and ask for a replacement.

Luckily they dont' have any in stock as they only have the atrix 2 in stock nowadays, so once again without for a couple weeks

Ya, I didn't think anyone would be able to help me here, other posts relating to this topic have gone unsolved as well worth a shot I guess.

It was posted elsewhere flashing a different carriers radio and then unlocking worked. Then the user was able to flash the newest radio for his carrier.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk

I would love to flash, but I don't suppose I'd get another try if I accidentally flashed the wrong file...

I just wish I could flash it back to the way it was when it first came out of the AT&T box the other day...

I found someone who had a tmobile account and had them call for me using my imei number and they've requested an unlock code from motorola, so I'm going to wait for that and see what happens...
I still feel like there should be some kind of way to flash back to an original firmware someone might be able to copy off from an out of the box at&t atrix.

Are you sure you're not looking at the Motoblur account login?

positive, says Input Sim Network PIN and it stays resident regardless what sim is inserted.

It is kind of funny how the factory reset doesn't actually reset it back to factory conditions

All factory reset does is wipe the data partition, which would put it back in a "factory like" state.

[Q] Help!

Okay so I just got this phone 2 days ago. I was waiting for the unlock code and I decided to stupidly try to root it first. Anyway so I was about 1/2 way through with the root process and I misunderstood some steps but before I could finish my code came through.
I kinda had to jump through some hoops (had to go into phone to punch in 2945#*500# and then the unlock code) but the process seemed to succeed. I should mention, it was having trouble with my sim card (Which was not the same carrier[Sim is Fido .. the phone is for Koodo]) with force closes of the phone while hte sim was in, so I turned it on and unlocked it without the sim in.
Anyway so now when I turn on the phone, the phone process just force closes everytime and it pretty much makes the phone unusable with the force close of the phone popping up every few seconds.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I think the problem could be caused by the fact that I was running the 2.2 Telus firmware during the process of unlocking (I couldn't find a 2.2 firmware for Koodo) ... it's back to koodo again tho but it's still like that ... I've flashed it back using KDZ.
Okay some things that might help...
I just popped in the Koodo sim to see if it does anything (it's deactivated tho) ... the phone app doesn't force close ...
Also I noticed something a little peculiar about the sim cards. My fido one has a larger gold surface area and the koodo sim has a smaller one. I've added a photo to compare .. the contacts seem to line up just fine but maybe there's a difference?
Okay I should probably get some sleep cuz this is absolutely driving me nuts lol.
Anyway I just remembered I had a Tmobile simcard still lying around from my vacation to the US last year. So I went ahead and popped it in. no force closes ...
So I think it's probably my Fido simcard is too old? I've tried cleaning it with some alcohol.
Uhh, you can try doing a factory reset (deletes stuff).
home + vol. down + power when powering on.
EDIT: Also, you don't need root to unlock a phone
yea I've tried multiple factory resets
(soft, hard) with the sim and without it ... no dice.
I was just rooting it to install a custom kernel and see how the phone works when it's OCed. I wished it was possible to unlock by the rooting it
edit: I guess I should also mention, the fido sim works just fine in my Motorola Milestone *shrug*
So I've pretty much confirmed for some reason my Fido sim can't be read. I just popped in a friend's Roger's sim card .. and it works fine. I made a phone to confirm as well.

#073887* Doesn't open network sim unlock screen

Hi everyone, i am currently using Atrix 4g on Dorians Redpill Hybrid V1. I recently went on a trip to China and i put in a chinese company sim card and i get the network unlock screen and i entered a few codes that didnt work which caused my Atrix to hardlock after 10x failed tries. However luckily i was able to use Amil's guide and flashed a special radio that caused my phone to work again.
However after getting my phone back, i tried pressing "#073887*" to try to reach the network unlock screen so I could unlock my phone with an ATT issued PUK code so i could reflash back to my old radio which is better, nothing shows up at all and I press call and you get the called incorrect # auto message because "#073887*" isnt a real phone #.
Please help!!
Thanks!
I'm having a different unlock issue, the code AT&T gave me generates a network error and won't unlock the phone. Since the phone is a refurb, I suggested that maybe the original owner locked it and the refurb didn't clear that. So AT&T bridged in a Moto inside tech rep who SWEARS that even if the phone has been "permanently locked" by using the wrong unlock code 5x, the phone will be cleared and reset by using the factory reset option form the normal menus, or from the power+volume boot sequence. He swears both processes are the same and that either one will reset the SIM unlock code in the phone, so you get five more tries to enter a correct code and unlock it.
Now with your custom code, I couldn't guess. And prior to this "everyone" swears a factory reset won't clear the unlock code. I don't know who is wrong about that.
But it could be worthwhile for you to try. Backup as much as you can, do a factory reset, see if you can unlock it back to AT&T after that.

I just did mine a couple of weeks ago, and AT&T warned me before giving me the code that it would become hard locked after 10 unlock attempts. My code worked 1st time, so all is good. I also believe a factory reset does not reset a SIM unlock.
Apparently the following is a fix for a hard locked phone:
http://www.amilkhanzada.com/2012/03/how-to-unlock-permanently-network.html
After my brainless cousin got accepted to work as an ATT Rep, honestly speaking, those ATT people at the stores dont know much about phones other than what mainstream people know and about your billing. Technical stuff they arent really trained to do so and infact they just follow a book of common errors. I have used amil's guide and it worked for me but i just cant open network unlock again so then i could perhaps put in my ATT network unlock code and then hopefully flash back to my old radio. I actually tried flashing a new rom and trying #073887* and it still doesnt work.
So far i am probably just going to have to deal with it having a weaker radio. At least i got my phone working again!
Thanks!

That's the fun about anonymous sources for information on the internet. "It works!" "It bricked my phone!" which happens, when, why? no one knows.
I also don't believe a factory reset will clear an unlock condition, but a second level AT&T rep working with a Moto inside tech rep (available to carriers only) swears it will. Have we ever heard that one before.<G>
Obviously there's a way to unlock them, AT&T swears they can be sent in to Moto for unlocking, but then again, sometimes Moto has access to chip programmers and other hardware that the AT&T shops just won't have.
So this cellular support rep dies and wakes up in Hell. he tells the devil it must be a mistake, he's not a bad man. And the devil says, oh, sure, happens all the time, just use that elevator over there, it goes straight to Heaven, they'll get you all straightened out. And the cellular rep goes over to the elevator and sees there's no UP button, just one that says DOWN and the devil says, don't worry about that, just keep pressing the button.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, could it?

[Q] Sudden SIM problems with GS2

About a week ago when I tried to use my phone it said no SIM card inserted. The SIM was in and unlocked as I had used the phone about an hour before without any problem. I rebooted the phone but still it said no SIM so I powered off, removed the SIM, cleaned it and tried again. Well after about an hour of messing around the phone started working normally again. I didn't do anything more about it and wrote it off as a glitch.
I woke up this morning looked at my phone at it was asking for my PUK unlock code. It seems as though the phone must have rebooted overnight or something and now it's asking for a PUK. Why would it do that? I can't unlock it as my copy of the PUK code has worn so I cannot see all the numbers any more so I'll have to go to my network provider.
My question what could be wrong with the phone that is starting to not recognise the SIM? The issue last week must have been a prelude to this and it's pointing to something failing in the hardware. Any ideas what can be causing this?
Did you flash any ROMs or Kernels? Because that may be the problem usually.

Please give more informationhone Model,Kernel,ROM...
Sorry should have given more information about the phone.
It's a UK GT-I9100 model running stock 2.3.4. I haven't flashed any Roms since updating to 2.3.4 over a year ago. I've been holding out for the UK Jellybean which I've just downloaded ready to go once I sort out this problem.
I think I read somewhere that moisture on the usb port may cause this problem but I can't find that any more and I'm not sure if I'm remembering it correctly either. Although, my phone has never been submerged or even got wet in the rain so I don't think it's moisture.
I just tried putting another SIM into the phone and it works fine. As soon as I put my SIM back in it asks for the PUK. I guess I'll need to go speak to my network provider. Would still like to know why I started having these SIM problems.

Dude,I think your SIM card got blocked.Go to your carrer provider, and ask them to unblock it
I went to my network provider and got the PUK and unlocked the SIM. I asked if they had blocked it or if had been blocked and they said no. They said I must have entered the SIM pin incorrectly which isn't the case as the phone was one and the SIM unlocked before I went to sleep. I put it into flight mode and the next morning when I looked at the phone it was asking for the PUK. That with the previous issue where the SIM wasn't being recognised points to something not quite right either with the hardware or software.
I'm going to be updating to 4.2.1 no that the UK version is available and see if the problems still continue.

[Q] use of a foreign sim

Ok so I (foolishly) bought a galaxy s4 with verizon even though I was moving overseas to Israel in two months. I made sure that the phone was world capable (like it can do cdma and gsm) and the guy at the store said it would handle foreign sims no problem. Once I arrived here I got a new sim. I figured out that it needed to be in gsm. From then on it had the service bar and confirmed it was connected to Orange. Since then I have been able to receive calls and texts, but not make them, every time I try to make a call before one ring I get a prerecorded message saying that my number cant be completed as dialed. I have tried several things already to fix this: to a cell phone repair person, to the local sim carrier where a lady tried using the sim of her own phone, customer service at verizon and samsung (who both told me to go see the other). I also did a factory reset which didnt do anything.
my phone is not rooted and is schi545 ME7. I will root if I have to, but if I dont I would prefer not to for the time being
Anyway I suspect the problem has something to do with the fact that I got the phone from verizon. Every time I start the phone I get the Verizon logo and after a minute I get a notification from the verizon set up wizard saying that I have a non verizon sim and that the sims source is unknown. I also tried disabling the verizon security and was able to make the notification go away but the problem persists.
Can someone with experience with this kind of stuff help me please? Thank you so very much:good:
Are you sim unlocked? I don't think the phone is unlocked. Talk to verizon to see if they'll unlock it.
According to verizon I am. I spoke with multiple representives from verizon and they said the phone was unlocked

Has any one told you if you have to change any apn, access point name? That may be the problem too. They can be specific to the carrier.
No, how do you configure that

In system settings, network & wireless, more, mobile networks, access point name. It'll be specific to the carrier so i can't help you there.
all LTE Verizon phones after Galaxy Note 2 are factory unlocked it must be a APN issue. Try maybe to do a factory reset and as previous poster suggested do the steps he told you to change the APN or look into I think it's called HiApn in Play Store.
Also try to put it in global mode or GSM? play with the settings.
still having problems
Thanks for all the input everyone but my problem still persists
I downloaded HiApn and followed its instructions to which told me to set up 3 Apns. I noticed that only one of them can be active at the time. I tried with each one active and I still can not make phone calls. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Go to Setting, call setting, disable the prefix international. I have done the same for using Verizon S4 in Indonesia.
Mine was not unlocked either, although I knew this before buying. This is a guide I tried (without success) to unlock it on my own.
Like the last poster, I reside in Indonesia, but I was never with Verizon. I rooted mine and have had no problems since.
Ok so I went to call settings and the closest I found was assisted dialing for international calls and the option to turn it on or off. I played with that for a bit and it didnt work.
I also tried the code and it said connection problem or invalid code
during my fiddling I came upon an app that showed promise of fixing my problem if I had adb shell. Does anyone have a good place to get that? I tried a few that didnt work out for me. There was another that showed promise but it wouldnt send a package no matter what I try
Thanks
If you want ADB, you need to download Android SDK and have Java Runtime Environment also installed. Then, it is just a matter of typing in "adb" into the command prompt of Windows.
Is there a serious conflict for you not rooting the device? The true benefit of doing this is to get SIM cards from anywhere to work, and to allow certain apps to work. Rooting is simply a matter of bypassing security parameters. As long as you follow instructions strictly, you won't have an issue using the phone as it should be used.
yea I suppose I could try to root it. Im just not great at that stuff and am worried about messing up my phone permanately

You don't need to root. You need to sim unlock. Get a hold of att international chat and adj them for an unlock code.
Hey guys thanks for all the help but I figured out that it was just a bad sim all along and that the first school screwed me over
But everything works now

Verizon LG G3 Phone not registered + IMEI all zeroes

I just downgraded my Verizon LG G3 down to 10b from 12 and rooted it, did supersu and flashed TWRP and all is fine there. I then checked off Survival mode in supersu as well. When I went to my update section in settings I got the message that my phone is not yet registered. Now I did read those other threads that explain that when using a flash tool you need to pull out the Sim card, which I didn't do nor did any one of the guides that showed me what to do say anything about that step. So is the fix going to Verizon and buying another Sim card and then inserting it and doing a factory reset? Will I lose root if I do this? Is that basically what I do? Turn the power off, remove the old Sim replace it with the new one turn the phone back on go to settings and do a factory reset? Will the Sim activate that way or do I need to let Verizon themselves do this for me? How does the new Sim get reactivated for my account?
EDIT
And now I am noticing I am getting downgraded to 1X instead of 4G about a half hour after I reboot, happens every time. I assume that is due to the Sim card issue as well
EDIT #2 Damn now I notice my IMEI number is 0000 0000 0000 0000
Damn I guess I am screwed, thought I would have some answers by now lol. I regret rooting the phone....
Has this not happened to anyone else? Losing the IMEI number but the phone still works? The only major issue I seem to have is I can't use OTA to get back to build 12 because I get that message saying the phone is not registered yet and also about 20 minutes after starting the phone I all of a sudden lose 4G and it goes to 1X. I reboot it goes back to 4G and 20 minutes later back to 1X. I am hoping the not registered yet message is due to maybe a screwed up sim card and hopefully the 4G issue as well. If anyone has any ideas at all please reply. Also will reflashing the phone rebuild that efs partition that stores the IMEI number? As I am under the impression that totally reflashing back to stock rebuilds all the phones partitions.
HERE IS ANOTHER CLUE
When I go into settings in 1X mode, if I turn airplane mode on and then off again a few seconds later I go back into 4G mode for a short while then it goes back to 1X. I am really hoping my sim card is to blame for this issue as I will get a new one today to test it out.
Do some research and look at the G2 method to restore IMEI. Use the hints of how to downgrade version by tot method in connecting G3. It can be done. Try to stay off of Verizon in mean time.

Good luck
Thanks a lot for the help guys. I was at work all day so I didn't see that 2nd link or I would have tried it before I did what I actually did. I went to the local Verizon store and told the salesman that in trying to get my phone to be able to use a PS3 controller (which is the truth) me and my buddy downloaded software onto the phone to alter it so it would allow for the controller to work with the phone so I could play games with it. Again all true I just left out the name of the software and I handed the guy the phone after telling him how my Sim card seems to be whacked out and my IMEI is gone. He changed out the Sim card and that did indeed fix the phone not registered issue and also the 4G problem was gone too. I was going to leave well enough alone when he said while your phone will work fine it is showing up as an unsupported device on my computer, it is still within the 14 day exchange period do you want me to swap it out with a new phone? I said that we altered the phone, wouldn't I have to pay for a new phone as that voids my warranty no? He said well I see you are eligible for a discount and since you bought this LG G3 near Valentines day I can offer you a free LG G Tab 8.3 tablet, I will knock off the 10 dollars payment per month from another phone that you are owed a discount on and basically all you have to pay for is the 40 dollar activation fee and sign a 2 year contract for the 10 bucks a month that you really won't be paying since I am knocking it off of another phone for you. Do that and I will just wipe this phone again as it works fine and we can easily fix it and I can just set you up here with a replacement and you will be good to go. I couldn't believe it lol. So I walked out of there with a new LG G3 plus a free (not really free since it is 10 bucks a month but he took 10 bucks off of a different phone which would not have happened if I didn't go there today) LG G-tab tablet AND I TOLD THE TRUTH!!!! It probably doesn't hurt that I now have 8 devices attached to my account and send somewhere around 360-400 dollars a month to them lol.
Glad it worked out for you! Yep, I'm sure it doesn't hurt that you're a non-benefiting "shareholder".
I have the VK810.4G (Verizon LG G Pad 8.3) too.
