3g during voice call? - HTC Rezound

So, I know CDMA shouldn't support this.. but I have it. Huh?
Sent from my 4G LTE HTC Rezound

The Rezound and Tbolt support it

Yep rezound has svdo so it works

Yes, kind of cool. I was using it the otherday while on speakerphone .

The 3G the thunderbolt and rezound use is eHRPD which is what allows it

So does it only work on 3g or also on 4g? If you're in an area with good 4g would you have to go through settings while on phone to turn off LTE to then use the 3g?

Whether in 3g or 4g, the Rezound and Thunderbolt can do both voice and data at the same time. Other 4g devices must be connected to 4g to do it.

Can anybody confirm if wifi tether continues to push data when talking and in a 3g zone.

I was using Verizon's tethering the other day and pushed an email through while on the phone. Thats why I came looking for this thread. Holy crap this is the happiest day of my life!!!
So, yes, I can confirm that tethering continues in 3g while on the phone.
Why is this not listed as front page news? Or one of the phone's top benefits?

That explains why I was getting IM's in Facebook while I was on the phone and 4G is turned off. Hah.. Good phone. thanks all. Suck it iphone! lol

Just confirmed WiFi Tether (rooted) works while talking at the same time, in 3G.

Noticed last night that one of my game asset downloads made significant progress while I was on a long call. Wondered why that was. Glad to hear that's a feature we got with our new toys.

gotta love it!

We have dual CDMA antennas, one is 1x and 3G the other is 3G and 4G LTE

Thunderbolt working in 3G locations?

Hi guys, I am looking into getting an upgrade soon from my Droid eris and was wondering if the thunderbolt will work in areas only with 3G coverage and not 4G coverage as it is not available in my area. Thanks.

You have nothing to fear about getting the Tbolt because it'll work just fine. Verizon doesn't have 4G where I live at (Greensboro, NC) currently but I'm getting it (preordered it at Best Buy) because I like having a signal (switching to Verizon) and the city that I live in will be the next batch of cities that they fallout 4G LTE to.

Yes, the thunderbolt will work in 3g or 4g coverage....
The only thing that wont work is the advertised voice and data at the same time as you need 4G (i think voice uses 3G and data 4G or some silly techy thing like that).

Not that I'm an expert, but Verizon only can enable it under 4G coverage areas. They can do it, I assume, because they stream data over 4G and voice over 1x/3G or something in that nature. I'd post my link references, but I'm too lazy to look for them. However, I think the Wirefly unboxing guy mentioned that too.

Simultaneous talk and surf?

What happened to the 3vo being able to talk and surf at the same time as many reports had stated prior to the release of the 3vo? Is this something to be added later or a never gonna happen type of thing?

It works just fine, but only if your data connection is either via wifi or 4G.

Sprint has to enable svdo on their network. The 3d and the EVO shift have the chip set. They are just not activated.

would be better marketing against at&t really, since they are the only one with bragging rights at the moment to be able to do this, not even verizon can at the moment.
Actually the Verizon Thunderbolt can do it currently. Its been something that has been making me think about jumping ship, though at those prices, I should buy a flip phone for when my Evo is online...

No the Verizon TB can do it over cdma without being in LTE area. Not all VZ areas support it yet but the phone deff can do it.

Don't think so. the way sprint is doing their voice+data will require a certain chipset on the phones that supports SVDO, which last I checked is NOT in the EVO3D nor the shift. The MDM9600 is the only one ive seen and confirmed to have this built in.
Also a lil note for people that are interested This post lays out some things for the future in sprint and are pretty reliable sources for those that do not know them.

Well people, after reading this thread I just had to put in my 2 cents about it. I live in a 3G area of upstate New York with NO 4G around me and can talk and surf on my Thunderbolt. That was the only reason I dropped the call dropping iPhone with at&t and swithed. I drive a truck "18 wheeler" and everywhere I have gone in the New England area that doesn't have 4G I have been able to do this.

No he's most definitely wrong. The Thunderbolt can do simultaneous voice and data on 3g in svdo enabled areas.
Talk and Surf on EVO and EVO 3D
The solution is not at all elegant and drain the battery pretty quickly.
What else is new here?
In any event, be it in 3G or 4G (irrelevant for 4G I guess):
1) activate the built-in hotspot (password protect it to prevent others taking
advantage of FREE Wifi draining your battery faster than Concord)
2) Activate the phone Wifi and connect to the newly created Wifi in Step 1
At this point, you should be able to talk and surf; an added bonus (already available thru the hotspot feature), is you're able to connect other devices to the Hotspot connection created in Step 1.
The new problem you will have now is to find yourself a lasting battery.

Actually, IIRC, only HTC devices at this point have two radios that can do simultaneous voice and data. Even then, the voice is being transmitted on the CDMA1x network and data on EVDO.
Thanks for the quick response

It is only on AT&T. They used to have the commercial about talking and surfing on iphone where the guy forgets his anniversary and makes a reservation while talking with his wife.
Only ATT allows it for the iphone.. but ATT is definitely not the only carrier that allows this like they claimed in their commercials. Probably why you don't see those anymore lol. GET SUED!!!! haha
I've been a verizon customer for a day, came from CSpires mess and haven't looked back. Love my actual 3G speeds and the latest and greatest phones. I don't live in a 4G area but new Orleans and mobile are 1.5 hours away. Excited to see what this thing can do on 4g

The quick answer is yes. The Thunderbolt and Rezound can do voice/data over 3G.
The long answer is no. The Thunderbolt and Rezound technically do data over 3G and voice over 1X on a separate radio.
LTE is a data-only protocol for now and voice is done over either 1X (in HTC's case) or eHRPD (in all other LTE phone's case)

Voice and Data at the same time?

Okay, so I just noticed that I can be on a call and I can still use data (3G). I gotta say I'm confused because this is the first phone that have been able to do this.
Does anybody else have a similar experience?
Well if you're in a 4G area, you should be able to do voice/data. Now if you have 3G it shuts off during a call, cause it's using that connection for the call.
ICS Rezound.

The Thunderbolt and Rezound can do both on 3G also. It's a unique feature to those phones.
Yeah our phone can use 4g for data and 3g for call's simultaneously.
or vice versa
Hell ya. I knew 4g would work when on voice call, but when I saw 3g working as well, damn near **** my pants. I thought only att could do that since it is a real talk text surf on one connection. One more reason to steer clear of att now.
Sent from my ICS Rezound via Tapatalk 2.
Doh! My post got devoured somehow.
I remember now that Anantech.com did a review of the Thunderbolt and explained how the basebands allowed for 3G and voice or 4G and voice simultaneously.
I wonder if the basebands changed from the Thunderbolt. Unfortunately, Anandtech didn't review the Rezound, they seem to have the most in-depth reviews.
But yeah, freakin' sweet! The AT&T One X does have me in awe of its display, but its certainly not enough to get me to jump to AT&T.
I gotta say I feel like the Rezound is sweetest phone on Verizon.
I never really needed to use the SVDO capabilities. Probably because I'm almost never on the phone lol... But still.

Weird thing that I have noticed is,
I have perfect LTE (25MBps up) when I run Stock Android 4.2. CyanogeMod 10.1
Any Sense Rom I run it has no LTE. When I select CDMA/LTE it won't connect to Data at all. When I select CDMA it will connect to 3G.
I hate it and have never found a fix for it. So I am stuck on 10.1 with not a lot of updates. Which is fine, but I like to switch back to Sense everyone once in a while and when I do I am forced to use only 3G.

No, if I remember correctly you're picking up sprint lte, it just thinks it's verizon or whatever carrier you're roaming on.

No. Your 2G network which controls voice is roaming. However your phone has an established 4G network connection. Sort of like being on wifi and roaming. Your calls go through the 2G network while the data is being handled by your wifi/4G. Those signal bars are strictly for your 2G connection. 3G and 4G have their own connection which is not viewable unless you dig into ## settings from dial pad. Sprint don't have any 4G roaming agreements with any other carrier.
