When ordering from AT&T, did it charge you for the preorder yet? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I haven't been charged yet. If you pre-order online do they just wait until it actually ships?

They put a hold on mine. I'm not sure if they actually charge, but it's the same thing.

They can't charge until they ship. A hold is not exactly the same thing as a charge; cardholders are not liable for authorization holds, only charges (your credit card company does not bill you for authorization holds). The hold simply gives the merchant the authorization to charge on the ship date. That said, to the consumer a hold may appear to be similar to a charge because the hold counts toward the credit limit.

Hmmm, I don't have a hold on there either... but I have a confirmation email..
On second look, there's an authorization for $1.00 on there, but not for the full amount. Is that what I should see?

It's common to authorize a dollar just to check AVS and CSC, etc. I would actually be surprised if they did an auth hold for the full amount for 2 weeks, though that may depend on state laws and possibly your status as a customer, type of account, etc. I haven't bothered to check mine....just want the device already. The preorder page explains that they won't charge until shipment.

they got a hold on mine but not exactly the amount shows on the comfirmation page. anyways can't wait to get my hands on the phone. guess my 9100 will be resting for a while.

I just checked mine and there are two pending auths, one for a dollar and the second for the full amount due at checkout. I don't think pending auth can sit open for weeks so my guess is they are just checking preorders to see which cards are legit so they can contact those whose cards fail. Then they will run the actual charge on 2/16 (or whatever the ship date ends up being).

i dont agree with that.. they have already debited the full amount from my account although its still pending I think past today it will not be pending anymore.

Good to see that the charges are common to everyone... i was going to call and have a screaming match with them this morning... any ways... got 2 of these on preorder... anyone else get the $100 off?

This is what happened to me when I pre-ordered the iPhone 4, it put the money on hold (which took it out of my "available" amount) and when the transaction expired the money was taken off hold and stayed in my account until the phone shipped.
Also, I used debit. Same thing happened to me now when I pre-ordered the Note...

From the AT&T Preorder page:
"Please note, your credit card will be charged at time of shipment. If using either a credit or debit card, funds in the amount of this purchase will be immediately held and not available for other use. Credit and debit card transactions will not appear in your account until time of shipment."
It stands to reason the amount will be deducted from your available credit, since you agreed to pay on Feb. 16. They don't want you running up your credit limit on the 15th so your charge for the Note is declined on the day of shipment. But there is a difference between having the funds deducted from your available credit and being liable for payment (i.e., the moment the Note shows up on your credit card bill). Same should be true for debit cards. The amount should be on hold, but still in your account. You can't use that money to go buy something else since you've made a commitment to buy the Note, but AT&T won't make the charge until they ship.

Hmmm. My concern is that something is wrong with the order since they only did the authorization for $1, rather than the full amount.
UNSOLVED MYSTERIES UPDATE: They finally put the hold on my card for the full purchase amount, a day after the preorder.

This is exactly what happened to me when I pre-orded the note.

Just so you guys know. There is a chance that if you use a debit card, your bank could deem the purchase fraudulent and could cancel the transaction.
I rarely see it happen, just saying it can.

Mine stayed on hold for 4 days and then the funds released and the transaction tion just went away. The bank didn't cancel is due to fraudulent because they have done this in the past and have always called me before they did this. So I do not think this was the case this time. Kind of weird as I never had a transaction too. Like this before...

I was told that they wouldn't charge my account until they had stock and were shipping. I have had this pre-order for about two weeks and they charged me yesterday, but no shipping notification.
Anyone else experience this? Are we close?

I placed the order about two weeks back. I don't know for sure if they'll have enough stock to get to my place in line...But I was told they wont charge my account until they ship it so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a charge on their account

I would assume they've been told how many they're getting and are charging your card in preparation to ship... So if by the end of the day tomorrow you don't have a tracking number, I'd say it is time to open a real complaint.
I have my pre-order at handtec, so I'm in a similar boat of waiting, but they charged me right off the bat. Hope you get yours shipped tomorrow. I think I got mine in way too late to get in the next shipment...

Hey I also tried buying the SGSII from clove and I'm in sort of a similar situation. After I found out that the stock would be delayed, I decided to cancel my order to get a refund since they had debited the money from my account on the day I made the transaction. Turns out they don't have my money. Apparently the bank holds the money when the transaction is made till the company(clove) actually takes the money. After a certain period of time has passed by(depends on the bank) and the money hasn't been claimed by the vendor, the money is returned by the bank to the account. I verified this by calling clove customer service. It's been 14days and the money hasn't been returned to my account. I suggest you call clove to make sure and call your bank to check whether your clove transaction is in its 'pre-authorization' phase. Hope that clears things up.

Ya this is correct, happened to me too. However, my money already went through this process. I emailed clove and it seems that they are charging accounts now in order to ship out the phones monday!

I went and looked at my bank account and where AT&T had the hold on the ~$317 for my preordered Note, is now gone, the money was not taken out of my account and now on the ledger it is no longer showing the pending hold for that amount, is anyone else experiencing this?
Edit: however whenever i go to AT&T to look at order progress, it still says
in progress pending shipment

mines the same too...still in progress while thers no hold ne more...cant wait for 17th to arrive!!!
I know it is exciting, but I would suggest to not watch this stuff too much. AT&T will not charge until after the phone is shipped. We will mostly all have ours sent overnight on Thursday and have them on Friday.
In the case of the iPhone 4s, they didn't charge the full amount to my credit card until 3 weeks after I got the phone! But the initial credit check charge did disappear after a few days (as I think all it is all they are allowed for a credit hold).
Hold is always temporay (3 to 5 days at most). It doesn't mean anything.

Mine did the same. I think it was Wednesday when it disappeared. For a minute there I thought the additional funding in my account was from my State tax return I was expecting but after looking through my transaction activity I saw that the hold from AT&T was released. From what I've read in other postings throughout this forum it isn't uncommon for holds to be released and then charged again when the device is finally shipped. I'm guessing it all depends on how long the order is on hold for, in our case almost 2 weeks from initial offering.
I did receive an email from AT&T Premier last night confirming my order and stating that the device is still scheduled to be delivered as early as Feb 17th.
This is going to be the longest week ever!

Banks can only hold funds for 3-5 days, it was just held to confirm you had the funds and that the card was valid. The phone won't be actually charged until it ships from the warehouse in which case the funds will then be finalized and removed from your account.
You should be good.
Side note: This is an issue for some people, especially people who carry low available balances in their account, because the funds were released and then they spent the money somewhere else, then when at&t goes to ship the phone the card gets declined from the bank due to insufficient funds. Then their order gets cancelled.

Mine was charged FAST. AT&T is usually quick to withdraw money from my account. Then again, it could be the possibility that it's up to the bank or AT&T still getting authorization through the bank to withdraw. Some bank are slow.
No charge, not even a hold showing on my "available balance". Which is odd, usually those holds go through right away.
hey, this is what's happening with mine. week ago, i've placed an online order through attwireless which cost me 300 plus tax. but right after i've submitted my order, I somehow ended up on the bestbuy websites promoting their $50 giftcard with its upgrade plan. so i've decided to call them to cancel my order within 24 hours. when i got a chance to talk to the lady i was surprised because she couldn't cancel my order since it's in the "process" and she just told me to send the phone right away when i receive it. this order was done in last tuesday, Feb 8th and it's hilarious that i couldn't get it to cancel the shipment the day after, because it was too late. So what the heck, i just went to the BBM and preordered mine.
right now, i have a galaxy note package right on my desk sent by at&t but when i see my bank account, i do not see anything debitted by at&t yet. i've been talking to 4 diff. reps and they all say they charge your account right away at the checkout page. only exception was the iphone, she says, which had taken extra 7days to charge the customers.
but my question is will i be able to sign a contract on sunday when i go pick up my galaxy note with BBM even i have the actual note in my position from att?
will their system block me from getting another one? if that's the case, i guess i have to send it back before sunday so i don't have any trouble receiving mine at BBT.
since, att has 30 days return policy, i was maybe thinking about keeping it til i see the "-317.99" on the bank statement.

Discounted price shows up after you 'add to cart'
I just did the same, my upgrade was pre ordered through Premier online on 2/5/12.
Called 611, told them about my recent purchase and obvious disappointment in the rapid price drop of my new device - and that I'd like a credit to reflect the difference. They asked what I paid, how much it's selling for on AT&T.com and proceeded to issue a "one time only exception" credit to my account. Done deal, had to be on silent hold for a bit and the CSR confirmed the credit was applied to my account...$155 positive credit on my account since they were nice enough to credit me the tax =P

I too got the $150 credit but in a different way. I upgraded and have a premier acct.
I did not call but rather went to the local ATT store. I had my original G-Note invoice and a copy of the ATT checkout shopping cart showing the 50% discount on a new order for a G-Note. I indicated that this wasn't right after less than 1 week and that I really didn't want the hassle of returning the phone and ordering a replacement at the discounted price.
I was very nice throughout and even commiserated with the woman helping me because she was shuttled around to 4 different parties within the internal ATT web order service center over a 20 minute period.
Eventually she just got her manager who explained to me that they were not going to be able to get it resolved with the on-line folks and simply issued my account a $150 credit.

I got a $75 credit for not getting my Note on time. I will stay happy with that and not get greedy. $225 for the Galaxy Note is still a great deal, seeing as I paid $249 for my SkyRocket.

I just called att the second time today and WOW! $250 credit from my sky rocket and note! Although the rep said it needs to be approved since it was a big credit refund and takes about 4-5 business days before it reflects my account. Hopefully I will get my refund back. Btw, premiere account here also, both phones are upgrade.

Simple and painless $150.00 credit!
Wow this worked for me right away without hiccups. Around a 10 minute phone call with ATT CSR (nice lady). I just told her that I purchased the Note 2-days ago for 299.99 and today I've seen the 50% promo that drops the price to 149.99, and If if I can receive a credit for the difference. She said "please hold on sir", came back and advised me that she can issue a one-time credit for 150.00 back to my account with no questions asked and without confirming I had actually purchased the Note, at all! I actually purchased through AmazonWireless (they refused any price matching or adjustments unless the price drops on their site in the near future).
I was not being stern or sounding angry. Just professional.

I called 611 the other day to see if they could match a different 50% offer that was found online...they quickly said no because it was a promo for add a line or new customers. Quick history lesson, i bought an infuse last year under upgrade, its been replaced 5 times. I got real fed up and told them I'd cancel unless they replaced it with a different device, they said they could not do that but they would however allow my 2nd line to upgrade some 8 months early. I called 611 a few days ago to get everything in order when they told me because of my situation i need to upgrade that line directly thru them which meant i couldnt purchace at my local retail store (drag) so today i called 611 to place my order and i referenced this new 50% deal, he said i most likely wouldn't qualify...i said whatever that's fine. As we were about to close the deal over the phone he told me that he can't process the upgrade cuz his system is under maintenance and to call back tomorrow. I called back in 5 minutes and started over. I again mentioned the promo than they transferred me to premier. The lady had no problem giving me the 50% off plus free priority shipping plus free activation. Had i ordered yesterday or even earlier today when the first dude had system problems i would have paid 299+15 shipping and 30 activation fee, i ended up paying $157 all said in done. Pretty nice savings if you ask me. :thumbup:

I just ordered like 20 mins back. It's in 'processing' status and it doesn't tell me expected shipping date.
I have another order 6p-32GB-graphite from google store that moved to pending status today.

I talked to the Huawei customer care and he said I can cancel my order at any point it time. But I guess that has to be before it ships.
Went this route this morning as well. When making the order for the Graphite 64GB all it told me is a "early November" shipping date. Since so new a order have to wait some to get a better date.

Im in the middle of fraud hell trying to order from Huewai.
First my credit card rejected the transaction. Talked to them and got it cleared and they said it would allow the order next time. Of course by then, the one I wanted (Aluminum, 64GB) was OOS on the site.
Phone came back in stock later, attempted to place order again, rejected again. Called my credit card co (again) and they said everything should have worked....placed order on Huawei's site with the credit card people on the line....rejected on the site, credit card said its not them (they didnt get a transaction request)
Talked to Huawei's "oh sorry it looks like we have a fraud trigger on your account, we'll request it be removed and get back to within 24-48 hours". Of course, the phone is OOS (again) and now 24 hours later, no communication from them and I still cant order the phone.

This happened to me the first time I tried ordering 64gb on the site and I got a call telling them its not fraud. Tried yesterday and exactly the same thing even though my bank allowed it and for exact amount to. Tell me if you get anywhere with this please considering that site sucks for ordering.

Will do. I did a live chat with them today and confirmed their fraud alert is still intact on me and that they will get back to me within 24 to 48 hours (again)
Im not sure exactly how they flag it...if its mailing and/or billing address, name, etc. Ive tried with my wifes' name on our shared credit card and still got rejected so Im curious as to exactly what it might be.
EDIT: and of course now the Google site is OOS too which means I cant even order there.
Well your bank/credit card companies suck. I got a text message asking if this was fraud and replied no and then tried again. Was a 45 second process. Order still processing today. Just don't mash the order button. Try once then contact your bank or have verification text/email messages set up... Pretty easy if you use your brain and set this stuff up when setting up an account. Mashing all the buttons only work in mk2 or street fighter 2. Both old news....

Read closer, its not my bank that's causing the issue anymore....and my bank(s) were quick to resolve the issue that was on their side.
My Discover card sent me an email immediately after it was declined...I clicked the "secure message" link, logged in and cleared the transaction, but since it was declined there was no pending order from Huawei, Huawei just never let me finish checkout. MOST online places would allow it to check out THEN the credit card would contact me to approve/deny the transaction.
As further proof, I had the credit card co wait on the phone with me while I attempted to go through checkout again and it still got denied. Credit card co. saw no new transactions come from Huawei, so it HAS to be on Huawei's side. Further confirmation of THAT was when Huawei support did actually tell me I must be flagged in THEIR system and it would take 24-48 hours to get it resolved.
As far as using my brain, well, my brain tells me I should expect childish answers like that from XDA.
