[Q] About TouchScreenTune - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm planning to use this app. But I'm not sure if this app may be harmful like overclocking. Anyone knows how does it work? Is it tuning touchscreen by changing the software based settings or the hardware settings for the touchscreen (like the voltage used by touchscreen)? Has anyone used this app before on SGS2?

Isnt that for tablets though?

As this is SGS2 and the app is for Galaxy NOTE you would have to volunteer to test it .

Not just for Gnote or tablets:

There aren't any problems on my SGS2's touchscreen, but I just want it to act like iPad when you touch lightly+quickly.

Isn't there anyone who has a suggestion about this app?

It works fine and does it's magic through software settings in the kernel. Just don't set the movehyst to some stupidly low value as your touchscreen won't detect touch. Just set the TCHTHR to a low value like 5-10 and you're good to go.
I tend to not use the auto load at start function as it renders my touchscreen unresponsive for 3 seconds. Instead, I live by going into the app to hit apply each time I reboot the phone.

There was only one sensitivity setting in the app that I've downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161262
There wasn't multiple settings like movehyst and TCHTHR as you told. Or is there something like Advanced Options in the app? (I'm not using the app currently)

[Q] Force Closes, factory reset and other sundries ( I have 7 days left )

Let me start by saying, i'm running stock untouched, unrooted, i turned it on and installed apps from the market, version of Gt10.1. It is the 32Gb version and came with 3.1 on it.
I've had my Gt10.1 for almost a week now and I must say that I'm stunned at the frequency of FC errors from various apps. I mean even my "Samsung Account" force closes after each restart.
Anyone else noticed that the screen isn't calibrated correctly. Seems I have to touch to the right of what I intend to select. This is particularly noticeable when selecting text in the browser or in text editors such as this app.
Should I reset to factory?
A lot of apps that work just find on my Epic4G are unstable or not available ... like where is facebook???? And how come nearly every game is either buggy or not available... EA games are just unsupported?
Is there a place anywhere that filters the marketplace by supported os version ? I.e. what is proven to work on HC 3.1

Facebook has been pulled from the tablet market for a while.
The samsung force close is on every tablet I think after reboot
I'd try resetting and see if that helps with the force closes and the screen inaccuracy. Maybe try not loading every app you had before. If that doesn't work, take it back to where you bought it and see if you can get an exchange.
Yeah its disgracefull that samsung have released the tab with so many bugs. Im writing this now on my tab and the text cant even keep up with my typing...the whole gt 10.1 is an unpleasant experience, the amount of force closes is staggering and unaceptable. theres no filterin the market to show only tab apps, it gives off a high pitch noise after every selection from the speakers, theres no predictive text input, the video play back its utter crap, why dont the home buttons auto hide to give more screen space, reading books is awfull due to each page being out of focus for a split second before being displayed properly. Theres people with dust under the screen, oh and the batteru life is in my opinion well below stated. and last but definately not least yeah it does flash in websites but not 100% some sites work and some are awfull,,,,

I feel for u. I've resolved the laggy keyboard by sticking with either the Android keyboard or Thumb keyboard. Both perform excellently. My experience has been that hidden home buttons seem to be a per app behavior. Example. Kindle app does it beautifully. I also have not experienced the out of focus issue. The video / screen rendering is unparalleled. Ive only experienced poor battery stats when I'm streaming from a weak wifi connection.. like being tethered to my phone running 3g 3bars or less.

-There is a problem with the way the stock browser handles text selection in web fields, it's probably related to some of the JavaScript problems the browser has. Until it gets patched a workaround is to use the Opera web browser.
-There are a few lists that people have compiled of HC optimized apps and games: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032381
@richie_jones:
-Turn off audible selection under settings>sound
-The default Samsung keyboard has XT9 predictive text, but you have to go into settings to enable it first. There are also numerous alternative keyboards to use if you don't like that keyboard.
-Video playback is very good on the tab. But like every tablet on the market you should convert your video to mp4 first for optimum results, or use an alternate video player such as MoboPlayer, Rock Player, Vplayer etc. If you don't know how to covert video files then check this thread for some simple instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060825

Yeah I believe the samsung force close is caused by an authentication issue on the samsung account. I looked in log with aLogCat after a force close (they always come at boot and always twice) and there was an exception logged from the samsung account app.
This happens when connected to a wifi network and also when not connected. Whatever causes it to bw unable to authenticate, the Samsung Account app certainly doesnt handle that condition well.
And finally, you think Samsung would have caught this one....
I took my Tab 10.1 back and got a Tab 7" instead. Honeycomb has a long way to go really, and all the issues the OP had I can attest to. Hardware was nice, slim and tight but given the software issues I couldn't justify the $500 tag when a 7" tab was going for $200 brand new. Very happy with my decision.

I reset to default and everything works perfectly now... the text SLOWNESS is limited to the default browser app.. I use either Opera or Dolphin now.
My only gripe now is with Samsungs advertisement or shall I say FALSE advertisement... this is not the tab they advertise. It does not have touchwiz, mini apps or Media Hub support

So you have no lag on the home screens when scrolling from one to the other, you have no typing lag on google browser. I don't think so....
Smooth it definitely is not"..."
no lag with he screens. Keyboard lag yes. Otherwise its running nice. It is a leaked tw rom that has been modified. I expect a custom rom based on the official release in a couple days.

[Q] Android Market and why different ROMs "lose" some Apps?

Hi all,
I was wondering whether anyone had any theories why some apps I've paid for disappear when using different ROM's / Phones.
The Apps I can use as an example, are as follows:-
1. Exchange by Touchdown Key by NitroDesk, Inc
2. RootTools by JRummy16
3. 360 Live by Juan Xavier Larrea
For example, while using Lite'ning ROM v6.0 on my SGS2, all those apps were available. But when I changed ROM's to the SensatioN ROM by Crysis, they disappeared.
Similarly, on my X10i when I upgraded to 2.3.3 they all disappeared. And because this happened without any tweaking, i.e. it was using Sony's release without ROOT'ing, I contacted Android Market Support and this was their explanation in relation to the Touchdown Key.
"Thanks for writing back. It appears in a recent update by the developer,
they changed the screen requirements of the app, it now only supports
Normal, 160 (density) screens. The specs on your device show as Normal 240
(density). So to continue using this app you will need to contact the
developer and request the 240 be added into the app."
So with that response in mind, I'm trying to figure out why there is a difference on my SGS2 when I switch between Lite'ning ROM and the SensatioN ROM.
Any thoughts? Does anyone know why I am seeing these differences between two ROM's? Is this something to do with tweaks within these ROM's and the density that Market Support is talking about above? Or the old problem of footprinting?
There's no way to definitively answer your question, unless you know the particular applications as well as the developers.
Yes, a lot of ROMs have different LCD Density values. If it is just down to LCD Density then that's a very simple fix. Try setting it back to 240 (default value) and see if the application reappear. I've never heard of apps not showing in the Market due to LCD Density though. I think you've just been fobbed off there, but I'm not 100% sure - just about 99%.
In case you don't know, to set LCD Density you need a rooted phone. Edit /system/build.prop and find the value in there. You can do this manually with something like Root Explorer (my personal choice), or there are apps that set LCD Density available on the Market, but lots of them don't persist the change for long.
Thanks for the reply mate.
Yeah, my phone(s) is rooted. I'll do a few tests with an App I saw on the market (LCDDensity for Root) and see if that makes any difference to the market content...
Funnily enough, I stumbled across this post from searching for that app in Google...

I'll report back whether it does fix the problem...

I'm surprised by that, but if that's what it does then that's what it does! Have you tried browsing for apps in the market on your PC? Obviously your PC doesn't know what your current LCD Density setting is on your phone, so it may not be relevant.
Maybe remote install from the website is the way to go.
Different ROMs are based from different builds, which can also include for which device as well.
So if the rom you are using announces itself as htc sensation, your samsung only apps goes missing in market, and vice versa!
Android market allows the developer to choose which brands/model phones they want the app to be used by.

Is that relevant though? I thought that all the ROMs for the S2 were based on the Samsung ROMs. There's certainly no HTC ROMs available for it.
Of course, the developer can put in the build.prop (I believe) whatever they want, but why would they do that?
Well, so far, as far as I can tell, the LCD Density hasn't helped....
I also cannot install "remotely" from the market website as the market website says "This item is not compatible with your device".
I've also tried this... without any success...

I found the solution to the market downloading problem! For anyone who has been having the Market Downloading issue with this ROM do the following and it should fix your issue. It fixed the issue for me and a co-worker.
To fix the market you go in manage applications:
1. Find Google frame work, clear all data and then force stop
2. Find Market.apk – then clear cache & data, then force stop.
3. Then, open ROM manager and fix permissions.
4. After the permissions have been fix, boot into Clockwork from ROM manager. And then format the Cache Partition.
5. Now reboot and test.

Hmmm... strange...

Resolution too high for some apps

Some applications look misaligned due to the higher resolution on our phones. Two of the applications I use that have this issue that I have noticed so far:
Heytell is an app that does this on our phones.
Application Protection seems to only use half of the screen where on my other phones it would take up the entire screen when asking for passcode.
This is a known issue. The only thing you can do is contact the dev of your apps and let them know.
The Spare Parts Plus! app has a feature "Enable/Disable compatibility mode to allow Apps to work at full screen size on Galaxy Tab and other large screen devices" but I don't have my Rezound yet to test it.
I thought Honeycomb had the ability to do that on it's own in every app without 3rd party support. My Xoom did it without 3rd party.

I believe he is referring to the original Galaxy Tab that ran Froyo (Or gingerbread, I can't remember xD).
I'll try this out though, I believe it should work fine this way. It's just a scaling issue with background elements.
Ahh, ok. Report back! I don't have any issues with my apps, and don't intend to download any that require it just because, lol.
I notice sometimes when I'm playing videos in Dice Player, they start playing in this tiny view(thumbnail like) in the of the screen. I'll have to use my fingers to pull it out to fill the screen.

[Q] Q: How to protect android from getting messed up

I guess this subject might need some explaining.
My parents are going on a trip in a month and they have there heart set on taking a smartphone with them.
What they need is being able to call, text and mail.
They also want to be able to use it as a backup (just in case) for finding their way. So just in case they get lost to find out where they are on their map or use the gps to guide them for a little while.
So basically, calling, sms, mail and gps.
They don't need to be able to change a lot of settings.
So, I was thinking about installing their (yet to buy) smartphone with a simple home screen and the settigs they would need.
To keep them from accidentally messing anything up, I was wondering if it is possible to password protect settings and stuff.
So, does anyone have an idea on:
-how to protect settings etc.
-a good homescreen
-other things like very simple gps app for example
...
I know it's a lot, but any help is much appreciated.
Bada? Much easier than android...
But why do you think, they'll mess up settings?
I was just thinking that if they happen to end up in a settings screen or something they don't know, they might press something wrong.
But on the other hand... I just have to tell them to press the home or back button in such an event.
About bada... I feel stupid now,but i didn't know about it.
The reason for android was that I have an android phone and would at least be able to offer some remote assistance if necessary...
I saw the samsung gt s5560 or something today ... That interface lookes rather simple, maybe I should take a look at that.
Thanks already, more ideas are always welcome ;-)

'app lock' can password protect apps and settings from being opened. It's free on the market and works well.
I wouldn't password protect settings, that way they can turn GPS on and off as needed without running it constantly.
Google maps/nav should work fine. Set up a simple toggle widget on their screen, I suggest Widgetsoid, but there are others. Tell them what the settings do, or in Widgetsoid turn labels on. Flashing a rom with notification toggles built in would help, since they could directly turn on/off GPS and data without being taken to settings screens.
I would also install a launcher that will allow you to lock the home screen so they can't accidentally delete the widgets/shortcuts you've set up for them. Never used it myself but I believe ADW launcher can lock the home screen but there must by others.
I can confirm that adw ex allows you to lock the homsecreen, so nothing can be changed. If you buy a phone with touchwiz, then you can lock settings and use quicktoggles in the notification bar. I can't live without them now. On a side note:widgets could possibly simplify the homsecreen.
App lock and ADW are good ideas (I actually use adw on my tablet).GPS widget on home screen can be very usefull too. Thanks for all the sugestions already!
I got a mail yesterday that they have seen some smartphones they seemed to like. I don't really know them myself except that there's only one android phone (if my web search is correct off course)
The phones they saw:
Nokia lumia 710
Nokia lumia 800
(those are WP7.5 I think)
Samsung galaxy+
(only android in the list as far as I could tell)
Samsung galaxy wave III S8600
(This one is BADA I think)
So I might just wait for what they decide to do, a first look at them on the web seemed to sugest that they're all fine for what they're looking for. They all seem to have the possibility to use gps with some (free) maps as a backup and off course sending mail.

My smartphone keyboard doesn't work PLZ help!

recently I bought doogee x5 max smartphone from china and I am satisfied with everything except for ONE THING.
the keyboard. even if I type in normal speed. it eats up my words therefore appears like this generally(when typing "xdadeveloper", it is shown on the screen like "xddvlopr") I didnt have same issue with my previous phones (in total 4)
and among all keys , some specific keys work worse than others like P or T
I tried everything I could do for instance, updated using OTA, manually flash stock firmware via needrom, had factory reset 3 times, installed almost every keyboard applications on google play turned off every animation setting in developer option.
its not like a lag I guess since if its not about the letter I type being shown say 2 seconds later, but it just omits the some of the letter in a word.
any advice will be greatly appreciated. I know this is cheap phone so I can not expect too much but this annoys me as HEXX because this is keyboard, used everyday, every time I do the task with my device.
Thank you!
ps) my smartphone has android 6.0 marshmallow, mediatek mtk6580, 1gb ram and 8gb rom, I never tried rootfor this phone. because I bought this just a week ago and I admit I am not gadget prick with plentiful knowledge on machines.
Hmm. This is an odd issue if it is affecting different keyboard apps as well...
I'm wondering if it is a problem with the touch sensitivity? Do you have the same issue whether the phone is upright or on it's side? With different keyboard apps, do the same letters not appear or is it random? Does it make any difference on the other keyboard apps if you resize the keyboard or not (only some support this)?

touch itself works just fine when I tap on anything such as web surfing, playing games and checking my emails etc.. and whether upright or sideview, its the same sadly and I dont mean some letters does not completely work but its lame and untyped 3 or 4 times out of 10 , high enough to not have a normal daily use. but yeah, whatever keyboard app I use, same letter goes wrong. and resizing the keyboard layout makes no difference.
I wish there is magic pills to cure this disease. like performance booster app or something if you can recommend me.
