Debating on buying - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hey everyone so i'm trying decide what tablet to get, I'd had my eyes set on the galaxy tab 10.1 until while reading reviews had this one pop up. At first upon reading the specs and seen quad core I quickly shifted to this device setting how there a minor 50 difference in price. Been kinda quick browsing the q and a and seen some discerning threads about issues people are having. As a overall do most of you highly recommend this tab or is it still to new and buggy? Any direction any of the users of this can give would be greatly appreciated as a$500 investment I wanna make sure i'm not going regret it in a week.
Thanks

As long as you don't need GPS (and you don't get a dodgey one from the factory where the wifi doesn't work) I would recommend it over any other tablet atm.
I was also debating weather to get it because of its issues but I don't regret my purchase at all

How do you plan on using the tablet?

Well I travel alot so movies, games, then for work, pdfs,, emails, Web browsing. Basically lap top replacement for on the road tired carrying bulky lap top around.

Never used the gtab personally but my prime is great for all of the above. Really its great for anything I use it for, haven't found a need for GPS yet so it hasn't been an issue for me.

I get my prime a week ago and a can say only waau this thnig is so fast the display is perfect wifi works perfectly beter than on my htc hd2 but the gps isnt good the satelite fix takes to long if i fortunately get more then 3 satelites but i dont wont to use 10 inch screen for navigation so for me is prime the best portable device

Got mine yesterday and have gold one with no gps at all. Screen light bleed from the right hand side of screen and 2 dead pixels. Apart from that its great lol.

Ah, the daily "should I buy" thread. It's amazing how many people use the internet but have no clue how to search.

Galaxy tab tab has outdated hardware n no expandable memory. Prime is a far better value and the specs blow the tabs away. Read the positive transformer thread in my signature and also check out a thread in general called List what works great on your prime.

Awesome guys thanks for your input.I'll give you thanks when I get on from my comp. Reading reviews on CNET is one thing but to here from people who are actually using it is very helpful. and to the one troll I didn't force you to read this so take your keyboard bad ass elsewhere.

Also one other thing, been reading about allot of bricked tablets. from personal experience how difficult is this thing to root and flash? Like scale 1-10, 10 being hardest. I'm not asking for a how to as I know where to go for that. my gs2 was simple as hell and chances for brick was mainly user error like flashing wrong ROM. So just lil heads up on actually rooting experience would be helpful in sealing my decision for this monster tab.

rooting is so simple. viperMOD PrimeTime, is the easiest way to root its a one click root. so far i have used it probably 10 times.... the ota updates cancel out your root

Also i'm curious, seems to me that the GPS issue wouldn't really be much of one. For one like other guy mentioned who needs a 10 in GPS, also since these aren't carrier specific they use wifi. So you have to tether your phone wifi to the tablet..be easier just using your phone GPS from the beginning even if GPS did work properly....

Agreed that navigation is pointless on a device like this, but what about apps that use your location like facebook check ins, geotagging photos, foursquare, viber(sends location in messages), google+, etc.
Are there any problems with apps like these?
For me getting a gps fix for apps that need it (not navigation) is important.

Your device locates you based on the IP address location. This is not a specific location as it only points to a nearby ISP server.
I think from what I've heard, GPS works fine with the ICS update.

There's nothing wrong with the guy trying to find as much info as he possibly can before making a major purchase like this. For some people tossing 500+ on a gadget s a major purchase, and they like to be sure about it.
I'm the same way, I'm a college student and I never buy anything expensive without a lot of research.
Anyways... This thing rocks.
Yes there are some issues, but what device doesn't have them? nothing is perfect.
Asus may not have the best customer support, but they will take care of you if you get a bad unit with the major issues you've seen people post about on the forum.
Also remember - people always post about problems, not about how well their device is working.
I just got mine 3 days ago and I am in love with it. I haven't touched my laptop once, and I am strongly considering selling it. This little device can pretty much do everything a laptop can with the dock.
And now that we can unlock the Primes, the sky is the limit with what the devs will come up with as far as custom roms, kernels, and modifications.
If you plan on buying it, I highly recommend the dock, it adds so much more functionality to it, plus the extra battery life is amazing.
Otherwise, you wont regret it, this is truly an awesome tablet, and blows everything else on the market out of the water right now.

I bought mine a week ago and love it, if you have best buy near by, they usally have the TF101 and TF201 side by side, play on both of them, the answer will be obvious in about 2 minute... G_tab have the same processor as TF101 I think...

Thank you guys! I was thinking about getting one, but the problem is, I live in Brazil, and the Prime is not for sale here yet (only in black market, but they cost 4 times the US price). As I don't use GPS much, guess I'll grab one.
But searching on line I found there are few stores selling it, makes me wonder why...
Microcenter would be a nice place to buy, US$ 50 less than in bestbuy.

[Q] Thinking of buying a GT - Need candid assurance

I'm thinking of getting a GT and have done some research here and other sites. The more I read the more worried I'm becoming whether buying a GT is really a good idea.
My main concerns are the screen issues, newton rings, moisture under the screen, oil slicks, shaky or flickering screen, device not turning on or charging properly, etc.
As with all forums, it's always the problems that get highlighted so I'm finding it difficult to gauge how wide spread these problems are, i.e. do they only affect 1% of the GTs or is it more like 30%? Do Samsung acknowledge there is a screen problem?
I'd like some candid advice from owners whether they are completely happy with their GT and whether they would buy one again if they were buying now?
If it makes any difference I'd be buying the 16GB WiFi only model from the UK.
I am very happy with my wifi galaxy tab10.1. In my opinion this is the best tablet currently available in market.
And I would advice any of my friends to buy this only at this moment.
Regarding newton rings : its acknowledged by Samsung UK and is present in the FAQ system of their website

I really like my tab, and haven't really had any problems. However, I did get some moisture under the screen after I left it laying outside on a hot day, but I just stuck it in the freezer and it went away .
Now, the decision of whether to get a GT... The main downfall is no external sd card (although this may not bother you). It's very thin, light, and looks good (+), but doesn't have the ports (like hdmi or usb) that other HC tabs have now (-). And, it's a bit more expensive than say a transformer, so you should take that into account too. My best advice would be to go somewhere like bestbuy and test them all out, then buy one on Amazon (generally cheaper).
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not too bothered about the lack of external connections as the tab will mainly be used for some web browsing and the odd e-mail. I do however want to root it.
I did also consider the Transformer but the newer serial numbers haven't been successfully rooted yet. TBH, if it was rooted I would probably go for the transformer as it's ~€100 cheaper than the GT and already has the HC3.2 upgrade.
I've had a play with both and liked both. I preferred the GT's physical aspects (size and weight) and am familiar with TW as I have a GS2 so it's my first choice.
My main issues are the screen problems. Would you say the problem exists in all GTs (i.e. design flaw) but only manifests themselves when exposed to higher temperatures or is it something that is affecting only a batch of devices (i.e. manufacturing flaw)? I know that's probably difficult to answer but I'd like to hear opinions none the less.

Thanks for the link. Well judging from that poll the problem seems to affect more than 50% of those that voted. It's not completely clear whether the problem has been fully resolved either. I've asked on that thread for people with screen replacements to say if the new screens have resolved the problem.
I would say i'm a basic user of my tab...i haven't rooted it as no idea how to go about doing that.
Overall for what I wanted it for, it's exceeded my expectations. I haven't encountered any issues with newton rings (touch wood) not lagging.
I have the 32gb wifi only version and I would suggest this is the optimum size. I feel the 16gb would be way too small.
Download dice player or another as this will play most files thrown at it. Also pay for the HDMI and USB adaptor to be able to watch on your TV or to transfer files. I've found this the easiest way to get files onto the tab rather than messing with Kies (don't go there) or using wifi explore options.
I wanted a tab for on the go, watching movies that i've downloaded without the need to convert (as with ipad). For this reason, it's a great tab, light and widescreen! Nice widgets and can customise the home screen. I'm sure I could get more use out of it, but I've come from apple products so new to android.
With the release of the TF2 coming nov 9th I'd definitely wait for that. If the Tegra 3 can run 1080p smoothly I'm making the switch over.
i have the 16gb metallic grey for 3 weeks now. I live in canada, i work as a real estate broker and am using the tab a lot, especially outside.
Here is fall season, temperatures are getting colder. I didnt have any problems with my screen. I really like my tab.
At first, i wanted to wait for TF2, but since they never said the exact date it would be release and that i was waiting since august, i bought the Galaxy 10.1 and i have nothing bad to say.
The only thing (as stated by others) the lack of sd/usb/hdmi slot turn me down a bit but u can fix that easy with thoses 2 : http://www.amazon.ca/Samsung-Galaxy...GY7Y/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1320212663&sr=8-7
and http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/...etail&subsubtype=others-multimedia&returnurl=
I'd wait if I was you. The GT10 is not perfect. Sometimes they have defects (gasp!). And then when you call customer service--they don't even speak the same language and they ask you questions! Can you imagine being asked questions! It's terrible! It's like they're saying "I hate your stupid face." when they ask you to "press the power button and tell me what happens." And performance? Well, it's good, but as soon as something new comes out it will totally suck. Like "wow, how did I ever use that" sucking. It will be abysmally bad! Everyone will laugh at you.
At some point, they will make a perfect piece of technology, then you won't need to ask because it will be perfect. Also, I think you should wait to breathe until the air is perfect. Hold your breath and I will tell you when it's time to breathe.

Oh wow that's very helpful and original.
I don't have 500 bucks to throw at a device that may have a design flaw nor the time to chase around getting it repaired because of persistent problems and so was trying to gauge the reliability of the device and extent of any problems.
You obviously have too much time if you can write all that dribble. If you don't like the topic don't read it.

Dude, there will always be something better coming out, if he wait for that "perfect" product, well he will never buy something.
I didnt want to spoil my money either. Here in canada, with a 3yr sim card data plan, i got a discount and my tab cost me 350$.
Before taking my decision, I've looked at almost all review on the web, went to stores and played with all the tabs.
At the end, it will be a personnal decision. Think about ur needs, no product is perfect, it might defect, thats why u get a warranty when u buy it. For me that was another reason not to buy online, just in case i need service on the tab.
Now for the reliability, since we live in differents parts of the world, i guess nobody can give you a 100% advice about it.
For my two cents, I love my Tab, think it is definitely with getting the 32 GB version, and was unlucky enough to have a problem with the charging connecter breaking. I bought it on Craigslist like-new, but didn't have a receipt. I called Samsung in the middle of the night (24 hour support), and was able to get everything taken care of. It took five minutes, at 1 am Pacific time, speaking to someone with an American accent. They sent me a return label, so I didn't pay a penny to get it repaired, even without proof of purchase. Got it back today, two weeks later. Impressive.
I've got to say, I work with a fair amount of tech support for my job as an audio engineer, and am always amazed with how much better support I get from dealing with companies like Allen & Heath through my work, because we have pro accounts with them all. Samsung was nearly on par with them. That's saying something if you ask me.

Bought the 3G 16 GB version and love it.
The USB adaptor was included free in the box.
This beauty is the next best thing after my wife and kid
16 GB is more than enough, as USB works fine, and if you need extra space there is always the GoFlex Satellite with 500 GB. I think buying 32 GB does not make any sense.
Got also the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0+ and together with the tab it's a killer combo
So if you are really interested in getting a tab, I would go all out for it
Ok, kinda stupid question, but here it goes:
I have played around with the black version of 10.1 16GB 3g version and the back plastic has a somewhat "rubbery feel". What I want to know is whether the white one has the same feeling or it is glossy and "shiny"... Well Iam ordering tomorrow and want to know please! Thanks!
I was going to make my own thread regarding the GT10.1 before buying one, but thought I would just post it in here:
My question is currently from what I know with stock you have to use Kies to transfer data/backup. With a custom ROM does still happen or can I just use it as a mass storage like all android phones?
I planned on getting a 32gb, but don't know if that is the smart choice. With all kinds of cloud and online storage is 32gb even needed? I know it has no expansion on the device itself.
Lastly, one of my reasons for getting a tablet is for reading all my ebooks and especially PDFs, how well do these look on the 10.1?

Since the source hasn't been released, the roms aren't exactly custom but modified stock ones. (Please correct me if I'm wrong). So they work with kies.

So, basically all the owners of a Galaxy Tab have to go the route of Kies to do any kind of data transfer(From PC). Fun.

Well, if indeed I am correct, yes. BUT you can also use dropbox or sent an email to the account that is linked to the tab containing the data. And there is always the option of buying the USB adaptor... Ok I admit that as far as connectivity is concerned, Samsung behaves like Apple but imo what sucks about Apple is not the hardware but the software.
Off topic:
Lets hope that Samsung delivers ICS as well, thus giving us Apple like support!

Is Transformer Prime worth it?

I have been looking into buying a Transformer Prime Tablet but after coming on these forums I see that it isn't exactly a perfect machine. So how bad are these problems? How bad is the wifi? GPS? The tegra 3 is supposed to be 3x as fast as the tegra 2, is it? I understand that every piece of technology will have its ups and downs and you will always have people complaining but I hear even ASUS started acknowledging this? Also whats up with this new shut off problem and problems with updating or after updating?
Sorry to hit you guys with all these questions but Its a big investment, and my main use will be school.
Thanks in advanced!
Yes. If you want one of the better tablets out there, you desire a tablet that can replace most of a laptops functions and like a laptop you don't need a fully functional GPS you will love it.
If you are like all the other complainers out there about a tablet not having a GPS, then don't bother. We don't need another one of those complainers out there.
Good luck in your choice I am very happy with mine.

What about the wifi and the other common problems? Also I plan on getting a wifi only one anyways so gps can only do so much for me
I just bought mine yesterday and I love it. Theres a noticible speed difference between this and my tf101.
My wifi seems fine, not so sure about my gps because I havent tested it without wifi on, but with wifi it worked fine.
Im a college student and I use my tf in school, not for notes though, nothing will beat the feeling of pen on paper.
I use it for a planner in jorte calender to keep on top of my due dates.
I use it to capture pictures of powerpoint slides for professors that do not upload.
I use it on the bus there to play games, watch movies, watch cbt nuggets, study, or listen to music.
I use it as a second screen (gotta love the dock) for project writeups while I do forensics projects on computers in the computer lab.
I've also replaced my phone with google voice/skype - as I have a 4g hotspot .
Most importantly I use it to show the world how large my penis is by having a quadcore tablet.

GPS is the only common problem. All others are small numbers compared to whole of working devices. Just check out positive thread in my signature. The answer you seek is there. Don't get sucked into all this b.s. on the surface. Majority of prime owners happy with device n have no issues or hardly any. Decide for yourself. Look at both sides. Issues side tend to exaggerate n complain alot more. Not as many people have it as it may seem on surface. Plenty of polls hereto price that.

Check the thread you made..I posted in there
thanks, that was exactly what I needed. On paper it seems like a beast and in reviews it did amazing. But these forums kind of had me skeptical.
I bought many Prime after reviews online and testing one at the local store. But waiting for mine to be delivered I started finding threads about all these issues. Can honestly say I was scared I made the wrong choice.
However, no WiFi or GPS issues
Now - I have a ton of learning to do... this isn't quite what I was expecting and have a lot of setup to do to make use of this new toy.
I feel you. Yesterday I went around looking for them, and gamestop was the only place with them in stock. Their return policy is "once you open it, you're stuck with it". Nervously made the decision to buy it, handed over my 534 dollars. Opened it, perfect unit. Took the biggest sigh of relief.
i got this device a week ago, and everything works great for me. wifi is just fine
I don't have any shut off, random reboot or wifi problems with my prime, although the GPS doesn't work. The keyboard dock works extremely well (and is a handy backup battery). Personally I consider it a required feature for a tablet, which rather limits alternatives.
Although I am very happy with my prime, and it can do everything I require of it (which includes coding), it doesn't offer *quite* the performance I'd hoped for and if you don't feel you need a tablet I'd hold off for another generation. Tablet tech is good now but at the current rate of improvement this time next year it should be great.

Is the Transformer Prime worth the buy?

Obviously it's the most "powerful" in terms of pure processing power and GPU as far as Android tablets go. But is the problems worth not buying? I will not be rooting the device as way to many problems I see on here. My question is if I leave it stock would I have some stupid issue's? I dont use bluetooth or GPS on a tablet so..
I posted this on the OG transformer forum by accident.
I KNOW there is a new TF coming out in June that will fix these issue's... But as of NOW is this a safe buy if I won't be rooting ? I will still be getting the new one later.. But need a tablet and cannot see myself going to garbage Tegra2.
Is H.profile video decoded easily with the Tegra3 vs.the 2?
Is it worth buying....?
In a word.... yes
After ASUS fixes the problems with Wifi and WiFi + BT it will be a great buy. Before that, no.

I think he was talking about poor wifi performance in some cases. I have a C10KAS that I'll hopefully return today since I can't do anything beyond 20 ft from the router. I'll try to land on a C20KAS which apparently of no issues at all on this.
@jamaicansolja: I dont get it either There are some people that have some issues with wifi stability as it seems. The same thing you see with any device in this format especially the ipad.
I didnt have any of those problems though. I always have about exactly the same connection as my phone (DesireHD, also made out of aluminum with plastic cut outs). (see attachment)
Should you get the prime? Its the best Tablet out there. So yeah go ahead I certainly am really happy with it. Of course that will change in the future, but atm there is nothing even close. And i dont think the ipad 3 will change that because iOS will stay iOS... But thats personal preference.
Same location, 7-8m away from the router (24ft?) 2 Walls in between.

Jesus...another thread like this? really?
It's pretty crazy how people are posting on a forum for the tech savvy people but have no clue how to do a search.
This message board really needs some mods.
simple answer yes. just look at the thread in my signature called Positive transformer thread. all your worries will cease afterwards .
If you don't need to take handwritten notes on it, yes it is a very good tablet. I which, there was a digitizer pen that works on the Transformer Prime.
Look dude, what you have to understand is the XDA forums (at least for the prime) has a higher concentration of people who have for whatever reason gotten bad primes. This is most likely because they are looking for answers. The prime is FLYING off the shelf and people who are happy aren't going to be as vocal as people who aren't.
I'm on my second prime and both have been great. The HDMI out port died on my first one, however, I dropped it off the back of the couch onto my kids tricycle so that may have had something to do with it.
I have never had a wifi issue at all. I get full strength in most parts of my house (I have 1.5mbps DSL connection and speed test puts my connection at 1.2mbps). The GPS on it is hit or miss, my first one didn't really work but my second (C1 s/n) works a bit better. If you want a GPS that works on the road though......put your had in your pocket and take out your phone. I've never had any random reboots with either of them. In short I've never had any problems. Its the fastest tablet out there and the best on the market. The keyboard dock is what really gives its edge. I was without one for two days and contemplated getting another until I realized there wasn't one that did everything the prime did.
If enough people complain and send their primes in for GPS issues and the problem becomes a hassle for the company they will offer a fix....I think there was a thread on here saying as much.
BUY ONE!

Why shouldn't you use it for handwriting?
I actually ordered mine for handwriting.
It's a notebook computer (with the dock) and a tablet. There's none like it. I don't need GPS on it cause I have 10 other GPS devices. Wifi is fine on mine, not any weaker than my HTC evo 3d. The good part is it can be as smooth as fast as ipad2 with a custom rom. I'm running virtuous rom. I can't complain its more sluggish or slower than ipad2 now. Functionalities on the TFP just blow ipad dead in the water. Just the browser alone is enough reason to get the TFP over the ipad2. Text reflow, flash support, bookmarks sync with chrome on your pc, quick controls on the stock browser or ice browser+ make safari look so dated, dynamically request desktop view. Complete sweatness. I don't have to go in other details of ice and android's goodness. I purposely compare it to ipad2 cause that's the strongest contender to TFP. I don't think there's a better android tablet out there.

Yes. ASUS strategically shipped all the defective devices to XDA forum members. I, for one, exchanged it 3 times and my 4th unit is also defective. Perhaps I'll ask a friend who is not a forum member to buy one for me so I get a working unit.

Are you serious can you not read and comprehend a simple paragraph. I said that the XDA forums have a higher concentration of people who have problems with their primes because they come here looking for answers.....not that asus sent bad ones only to xda members.
You know because this is a tech forum and if people with electronics have issues they come to sites like these to seek answers.....therefore these forums could have a higher concentration of people with complaints. I didn't think that needed to be explained

Not sure if i will get in trouble for posting this in here, but,my reason is because the Rezound forum is where i spend all my time and i wanted to ask you guy's/gal's instead! :silly:
Anyway, anyone here have an N7 and can give some personal experience pros/cons?
Looking to pick one up for X-mas. Will mainly be used by my wife and myself for browsing, watching vids, e-books. Anyone have a blue tooth keyboard attached that they recommend?
Feel free to add any additional info that you think a perspective buyer may be interested to know.
Thanks everyone!:good:

My brother has one and i love it. cant beat that price for one of the most powerful tablets on the market now.
Pros:
Hardware
Google updates
$$$
Cons:
No expandable memory. He has the 8gb from launch and it cant hold that much. he blew through the 8gb fast and is now trying to play catch up when downloading new games.
If you plan on getting one. Please get the 32gb. I know people will argue saying its not needed if you're just going to browse or watch a couple of videos. But it happens to fill up quickly and you cant change your mind. lol
U love mine kindda p.o. about buying one before the price dropped lol but get one it is worth it

I bought my gf one for her birthday and she loves it. She hardly even uses her computer anymore. I love the fact that you can add multiple users. She has her own profile and when I feel like using it I click on my profile and instantly shows all my stuff on my own home screen.
Oh and the only thing she doesn't like about it is the camera quality on Skype is horrible. I've read that there are mods to improve the camera quality, but because this is her tablet I am not rooting it.

I absolutely love mine. I got the 16gb version and I use it every day. My laptop basically only gets used for burning CDs now. I'm running the stock rooted 4.2.1 and I think it's perfect. This is the first Android device where I didn't have a desire to install a different launcher or install some form of heavily modified or AOSP ROM. It's worth every penny in my opinion.

I love mine, just got it last week. my girlfriend has her settings and i have mine, it's awesome. i use a logitech bluetooth keyboard and google drive during school to take notes. the keyboard pairs easily and i experience little to no lag while using it. i can download my books on there too and boom, that all i have to bring. the keyboard comes with a case that transforms into a stand for the tablet when taking notes.. i linked it below, it's also available at best buy(where i got mine). good luck, it's definitely a good buy. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-...words=logitech+bluetooth+keyboard+for+android
I absolutely love my N7 and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much. Feel free to PM me with any questions you have. If you're doing research in the N7 sections, in the past it's been mostly trolls and morons who post in general but not development, so at the very least find someone who is active in both sections.

I have the 32gb version and I am very happy with it. I take mine out in the field with me and have it tethered it to my Rezound which is great for my daily use. If you are flasher then I would suggest taking a look at the Nexus 7 forums, some really nice Roms.
It is great for what it is, just don't have false expectations. Not to be combative but if she plans on doing the things you mentioned extra memory is not needed. I am a fairly heavy user and haven't even looked to see how much of my 16gb I have used.
Con: as a flasher I get kind of annoyed with all of the updates. bc so many updates the roms never really smooth out. Everytime I think it's set up great there is a new update. (first time with a nexus so maybe just annoyed with change).
I have an 8gb one with an OTG cable. I hook up my 16gb card to it. I also stream my music and movies from my server. Bought the OTG cable on Amazon for $.70.

I've had one since release ans I love it. Only con I can see is that there is no expandable memory options however the device holds up really nice. I have a Bluetooth keyboard for it as well, I got it from Motorola off of Amazon and haven't looked back I also have a treegloo case for it however I'm not sure I would recommend it because as of late it has been starting to break down even though I haven't abused it in the slightest

Well, it will be a Merry Christmas in my household......I picked up a 32gb last night!!
All i did was charge it a bit and turn it on to make sure it was working properly and immediately put it back in the box. Mainly bc my wife and myself are dorks and want to wait til christmas morning to officially open it :silly:
Now I am accessory shopping, need a nice case and maybe a stylus. I messed around with the display model a bit, and, with an iPad mini. Mini is wider, thinner and a bit lighter. And the thinness and lighjtness is where the comparison stops for me. The screen on the Nexus absolutely blows the mini out of the water. I didn't get too in depth using them, but I didnt need to. The screen comparison blew me away. I couldn't get over it.
Can't wait to hack away Christamas morning!
Good choice:thumbup:

Don't have time to read through the entire thread to see what everyone is saying, BUT if you are considering getting one then you definitely should. I don't even know where to start, but its perfect in every way. Very brief breakdown.
Pros: the perfect size, battery life is great, ROM development is plentiful, the device itself is really fast(running aokp 4.2.1) , lots of options for cases, and much more.
Cons: None!
I originally got it for when I run on my treadmill in the basement to watch Netflix and downloaded TV shows. Now after having it for a month I bring the thing with me almost everywhere. Best $250 I've spent in a long time.

The prime is dead

Just one year after, the Prime development is dead. Two roms have been updated a month ago and much appreciated work on them. But that's about it. What was once the tablet of the future, Asus made it a flop, A $500 flop at that. How poor, I'll never buy another Asus tablet or PC again. I had mine since day one and have no problems with. I wish everyone could say that.
Thank you for your contribution. We definitely needed another one of these threads.
Long live the Prime!
Yes, as said before, this is the problem with people who jump on these forums and fill it with non-sense, gripe and make an atmosphere of uncertainty and unthankfulness.. Yes, thanks for the positive outlook indeed.

This is not true. lilstevie and tux_mind are VERY close to perfecting an Ubuntu dual boot. Think about it, Volume Up to boot Android; Volume Down to boot Ubuntu. That would be the coolest thing in the history of things. This is what I have been waiting for since 2008. Sooo... STFU.
Prime is dead
Mine truly is----at ASUS RMA facility for the third time since purchase
first 2 times wif-bluetooth issue in shop for 1.5 months
this time green camera
Truly a 500$ 650 if you count the dock peice of c***
There are very few primes around in my country so i don't care if its dead, i have a special device and its working perfectly.
But i think my next tablet (i hope the prime works for a long time) will be one with a digitizer for pens. Like the galaxy note 10.1. In my situation i prefer that over a keyboard.
Long live the prime.
I've had mine since day one. Never had reason to complain about it at all. Two friends have bought them after seeing mine. Still use it every day. I wish I had two.

I really like mine it replaced my laptop ... i also like the build quality. Samsung plastics are not my kind of thing. Drawbacks are wifi performance and the system to connect tablet and keyboard could use some rethinking.

I think that the Development is very slow mostly because around a 50% of users have their Bootloader locked, so lots of people couldn't use other roms, kernels or mods (and of course if a user wants to start a develop and has it's Prime locked, simply he can't).
I bought the tf201 a month ago because I didn't know anything about Bootloader, I thought that I could flash a kernel for OC or something similar. I try to unlock and I couldn't, and now I'm happy with it, because my tf201 died a week ago. When it returns from the RMA, I'll try to sell it. That's all, and this is the last ASUS tablet I'll buy.

I find it interesting as to how much people are influenced by the opinions and experiences of others. In one breath you say you'll never buy another Asus tablet again and in the next you say you've had your Prime for over a year and have had no problems with it.

Let me help you out a little, jordache. I'm quite happy with my Prime. I've not had problems with it. I have several Wireless APs at my home, so it's saturated with signal. As a result, I've not had problems with the wifi. I've chosen not to Root or Unlock my Prime, so I've not had the headaches there that others have had. As the features go (HDMI, Micro-SD, SD, USB, additional battery in keyboard dock), the Prime is top notch. I'd still take it over an iPad any day of the week.
Having said all of that, Asus's post-sale hardware support is terrible. So terrible that I probably won't buy another Asus product. I managed to lose a couple of rubber feet on the dock. When I inquired about getting some replacement feet, Asus wanted me to do an RMA on the dock. I'm not impressed.

The original post in this thread is the equivalent to someone standing up in the middle of a conference on economics and yelling "I LIKE BANANAS".
Sure, they have every right to like bananas, but it isn't helpful, it's attention-seeking and is essentially pointless.
Go eat bananas if you like them. No one cares.

That is correct because my bluetooth sucks, my wireless sucks and should be much better than it is. No other issues besides that. I was just stating a fact that there is not much development for the tablet anymore. That's all I was saying, take it the way you wish but we are all allowed opinions here. thank you
The truth of the matter IMO is that people have come to expect too much. It's the "where's my update" syndrome where people want something new ever other week. Things evolve so fast that yes, a one year old device is practically ancient history. And Asus supported this device for much longer and through many more updates than most other manufacturers do. Take my Motorola Droid 3....please! Seriously my Droid 3 was abandoned by Motorola almost as soon as it was released. My original Droid Came with Android 2.0 then it got 2.1 and 2.2 from Motorola and then 2.3.7 via Cyanogen Mod 7.2 but once on 2.x, always on 2.x. On the other hand on the Prime we went from 3.x to 4.0 to 4.1 and will probably see 4.2 which is really not bad at all. It should also be capable of running future versions of custom ROMs....if the developers keep working on it. But really we have to expect that they will eventually move on too. But these days a year is almost an eternity for a mobile device.

I don't see it so much as slowing down, more like we have got to the limits of what we can achieve with what we have.
When 4.2 arrives I'm sure you will see some more dev work going on and also there is cyanogenmod which updates nightly if you really want to update regularly.
There is only so much you can do based on the stock rom.
