Good apps for cm9 - TouchPad Themes and Apps

Can someone give me links to some cool games for my hp touchpad with cm9, like dead space, fruit ninja and other popular games, i would really appreciate it.

which one'sthe best?
It would be great if we can come up with the top 10 Widgets of the month,, first get the consensus as to which Widgets must be included and allow users to vote. And at the end of the month or so post the results. This would be a great idea.

Must have App and mods
ROM Toolbox is one of my favorites because of the easy customization. I use the free version that can be found here https://market.android.com/details?...wyLDEsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94Il0.
With this app, you can change you theme, moboot, boot animation, dpi and overclock your CPU. I set mine to 1512 and its fast and snappy.
Great APP!
One more that at this point is a thread, but the OP is developing an APP. This link connects you to MindSplits thread for moboot and boot animation Modding. He has some awesome work and its easy to install. Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464159
Cheers.

I definitely agree! I've had Rom Toolbox for over a year now and it's without a doubt the best $5 bucks I've spent on the Market. The built in App Manager alone is worth it because you can back up your apps AND data, so when you restore an app all of your settings for it will be restored also. Plus it lets you do a batch restore of apps and data so when you flash a new rom you can restore everything to the way you had it in just a couple of clicks. It also lets you do advanced functions like break market links and freeze apps. It's the best app to have if you have a rooted device in my opinion! I'm glad someone else appreciates it like I do! Also to the op it's against the rules to post links to warez, but if you're looking for some suggestions I could name a few. Modern Combat 3 is incredible on the Touchpad especially with a ps3 controller and the same goes with GTA III and Shadowgun. If you want use a ps3 controller with your emulators or games, get the app called Sixaxis Controller. It's another must have app in my opinion! You can use your ps3 controller on almost all of the emulators for Android, and you can set up touch profiles for games that have touch screen controls. On top of that you can use the ps3 controller to navigate the touchpad, for example I have L1 and R1 set as volume up and volume down and I have L2 and R2 set as next track and previous track. You can find them all on the Market and they definitely worth the coin and then some

Essential apps

Had my Streak since Monday after finally deciding against the HD2. I've been a winmo user for years but didn't like the idea of being stuck with 6.5 for another 18 months.
I had built up a huge selection of fave apps for my HD and was reluctant to let some of them go, so I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for everyone's essential apps for the Streak.
Having only had the "phone!" for a few days, here's a couple of apps i'm liking so far:
1. RockPlayer - play avi files and more.
2. Google Navigation - although comes shipped in UK.
3. MyPlayer - BBC iPlayer.
4. AppKiller - although this is the only task manager i have tried so far.
5. EsFileExplorer - again the only one tried so far.
6. XDA app - nice interface and faster than using the browser.
7. ColourUp - i love editing photos and this is pretty cool.
8. Google SkyMap - works brilliantly.
9. Swype - only just started using this, for me it's brilliant.
Ok, there's my keepers for now, how about yours? I've not really found any great games that fit will on the screen yet although i'm liking Winds Of Steel.
Same as yours really, but would like to add Astro file explorer - great for installing apps outside market. And if you like reading as much as i do Laputa is a awesome ebook reader with ipad style bookshelf and page turning and loads of online books.
Tried quite a few games and at the mo playing Zenonia little rpg ala zelda which is a nice enough. Game Boid is a great emulator for all those classics. Mazeoid is a free pac man game runs great on the streak.
Im experimenting with different keyboards, the dell one works great but the numpad throws off the whole symmetry. Ive tried smart keyboard which is quite nice with lots of skins, but i found it slow so went back. Any suggestions would be very welcome...
Gonna add a new one as of yesterday....kindle reader.
just bought a couple of books and woopee for some reason you can buy them at american prices. Lot cheaper than the UK store/mobipocket etc.
Oh yeah and Rockplayer...rocks...will probably be my first 'purchased' app once it get's released (I've not had a need for anything else that requires paying for yet.)
oops. forgot I don't play many games but Bonsai Blast is really addictive and fits the screen great.

Great, was looking for a decent ebook reader for the ebooks i already have, I also think the numeric keypad is a dumb thing - not thought about as it forces you to hold the streak lob-sided to type, as you, still looking for a decent alternative.

Yep, kindle reader looks lovely, but can't get it to work with the ebooks i "bought" from other sources. Will give the bonsai blast a try. Cheers.

Nice find, buy them cheap while you can
Gave Bonsai Blast a go and i agree looks great and a pretty fun and adictive thanks.
Kindle looks good but like Guest69 i have a collection of ebooks i need to be able to import, maybe this will be possible later...
Also found a few good widgets. Htc smooth calendar (other one was buggy) looks great, matching the dell theme better then the default and shows 3 appointments. VolumeWidget is on my home screen, gives you 3 buttons for preset volume profiles.
Finally the Zedge app is like the app store of ringtones, has search, preview and install functions. Theres also a wallpaper section, but i havent tried it as i have made my own seamless sets like the o2 wallpapers (cut up and resized some high res dual monitor wallpapers) ill post some here when i get a minute.
My favorite book reader is aldiko, and it has limited support for importing books as well as long as they are epub format.
Hi all,
Well I've had my Streak now for a little over 3 weeks and have now flashed my first custom Rom which comes Rooted and with Superuser permissions plus has allowed me to remove from the Rom the apps i had no need for.
So here are my installed apps in no particular order.
Astro File Manager: can be used to install apps that come as apk's as opposed to from the market
Barcode Scanner: easy way to install apps form QR codes or just reading Bar codes
3G Watchdog: Monitors your data use over 3G you can set your allowance and it will monitor and alert you
Live Calender: Will bring up upcoming Appointments on your Home screen
F1 Pocket 2010: all you need to stay up to date with F1
Moto GP Pocket 2010: all you need to stay up to date with Moto GP
iSyncr for PC: Easy transfer and sync of iTunes to your Streak
Google Sky Map: Map of the Stars and Planets
Engadget: Widget with scrolling updates
SystemPanelLite Task Manager:Shows you CPU and Memory use
myPlayer: BBC iPlayer
ShootMe: Screen Shots for Rooted devices
Speedtest.net Speed Test
Rock Player: Plays DivX Avi and many other formats in great quality.
Co Pilot Live: Sat Nav with POI'S and Speed Cameras
Gentle Alarm: Great Multiple Alarm app with some unique nice features
Seven Push E-Mail: Real time Push E-Mail with full folder support
Cloud List:Great: shopping or other list app also on line lists that can be shared with others
Tapatalk Pro: handy tool for posting on Forums
TVCatchup Mobile Live TV Streaming with lots of UK channels
Fring: Skype and IM chat app includes Skype Video chat
Superuser Permissions: allows rooted apps permission
Boot Explorer: File explorer and more for Rooted devices
Root Booter: Easy Normal, Recovery or Bootloader Reboot options
Boot Manager: Control over various options and apps on your device
Swype: simply the best keyboard and typing experience ever IMHO
I should mention although System Panel Lite is a task manager that's not what I'm using it for as it also shows CPU and Memory use along with all your Active applications and Inactive cached applications. Personally I'm just not using a task killer or killing any apps at all.
Wow having now made this list i can't believe just how many apps i have installed so far just as well the Streak comes with 2GB for installing them on.
Marc
is there a good Weather app out there
Is there an android application for windows live mail? I haven't found one.
Diane
Sent from my Dell Streak using the XDA application.
@ Dogman, Mate whats the name of the Barcode reader you use thanks
Hi lufc
It's called Barcode Scanner and it works better then any I've ever used before literally as soon as you frame the QR code it identifies it and gives gives you the option to open the browser which actually opens the download store with the app ready to just hit for download. It still amazes me very time i use it to download a new app just how fast and simple it makes the whole procedure.

Fring - pity it doesn't support Fbchat yet, but it was a shock to have a video call from one of my aussie mates yesterday
phonebook 2.0 - so much better than the stock contacts for making phone calls.

dolphin browser - can't decide which I prefer this or stock browser
opera mini 5 - for when I'm on gprs as it's faster there.
wifinder- neat little app
barcode scanner
osmtracker- useful for updating openstreetmap or gps logging
Vespucci - for ondevice osm editing

floating image - ultra cool way of showing pictures
layar - more for showing off
laputa
Mytracks - works with runsaturday.com (via email)
Imeasy -fbchat
myplayer

root explorer
goggles
bonsai blast
and a couple of spongebob games for my kids
My FAVORITE app is Swype. A month ago they were letting people download the app again and I got it for my Nexus One .. I loved it because for some reason I was having a horrible time typing .. When I first got my Streak I typed on it for about 15 minutes and then downloaded Swype again and that is ALL I ever use. I made it the default program for any text and you can always type letter by letter if you are having problems with a certain word. On YouTube there are several GREAT instructional videos on swyping from the maker. I am pretty sure I am getting faster swyping than I was typing on my iphone.
Double post...
Thanks for the barcode scanner tip Marc, its real fast and accurate definitely a keeper.
ROFL @ "XDA_devs is rapidly becoming the McDs of the winmo world, sadly full of rude chavs demanding crap immediately.. "
As for swype, I gave it a try but I wasnt impressed, guess its a preference thing but I can type fast as hell in landscape with a normal kb so long as it can keep up. I found with swype it takes much more finger movement to type each word and you have to look at what you are doing more, not to mention smearing crap all over the screen...
Im still searching for a good alternative to dells stock kb, tried everything in the market with mixed results, but I think I'll just wait till the froyo update and try the ported htc multitouch kb.
@Cypher84
If you mess around with the settings for Swype you can change how long the trace shows for and the same for word prediction i have reduced the time for both which i have found has made the world of difference. Also now Swype has learnt most of my most commonly typed words I'm finding it incredibly fast and accurate and also it's quite forgiving if your not totally accurate. Also for the suggested word to be put in you just start the next word so now after just a short while using Swype it defiantly is my by far preferred method of text input. But like anything just because it's best for me doesn't mean it has to be for everyone else.

I had the same problem but you just need to do this
After you have installed and enabled swype
Open a text input box (what I do is open up the browser, go to google and then hold my finger down in the google search box)
Hold your finger down in this box until a menu appears "Input method"
select Input Method and then it should give you an option of Swype or Android Keyboard, select swype and now it will use that as default
Hope this helps
Cheers

[List] Must have Apps for 8.9"

I thought I'd make this list of Apps that i find very usefull on my tab.
Most of them are optimized for tablet resolution. I'm looking forward to seeing your suggestions to add them to the list.
I will try to go off the beaten path a little, and not suggest the apps everyone knows about anyhow
ASUS Supernote (Free)
This is the notetaking app that comes with the transformer...and its friggin awesome! You can't get it in the market so you have to sideload it. So far i have found no notetaking app that works as well as this one does!
ComicRack (Free/5,99€)
So you like to read comics? This is in my eyes the best comicreader hands down!
It really shines if you use it in combination with the comicrack program for pc. You can sync your libraries, read status, and lots of other stuff. The paid version offers wifi sync but the free version works perfectly fine! The dev is very supportive and open to suggestions. If you like comics, check this out!
Feedly (Free)
Great RSS reader. Tight integration with GoogleReader. A joy to look at.
BubbleUPNP (Free/3,49€)
This is my UPNP player of choice. I have a homeserver running XBMC providing all my TVshows and Movies and bubbleUPNP does a great job without a lot of hassle streaming them to the tab. The free version works great aswell!
Mantano Reader (Free/3,99€)
After trying a lot of e-readers I finally settled with this one. It has a nice interface, simple controls and quite a bit of customizability. Plus it supports epud and pdf formats, incase you get your books from "somewhere else"
Facedroid (1,25€)
My facebook app of choice for the tablet. Still being actively developed with very nice devs. Any Bugs? Write them and it will probably be fixed tomorrow!
Total Commander (Free)
Maybe you know this from Windows. Its a very advanced and powerfull file manager and there is a beta version for android! Pretty awesome app, with two pane view which makes copying and moving stuff about pretty easy! Not in the market, must be sideloaded but can be downloaded directly at the developers site.
Will post some more when I get the time.
Hope you find something usefull here.
Might I add
Dolphin browser
Droid TV
Stumble Upon
Currents
NodeBeat
Ted Air
Floating Image

To those posting app suggestions. Thank you very much for sharing your best finds.
It would be very helpful however if you would include a very brief description of what they do. For example Jefit and Intonow, among others, mean nothing to me. I know I can look them up, but it would save a lot of people a lot of time looking up apps it turns out they don't have any use for.
Thanks again for all the cool new apps. My phone is burning up from the downloads.

Really? If you knew me you'd know that I'm anything but lazy. There are more than 50 apps listed (so far). The OP took the time to include a couple of words to tell what the apps are for. HE wasn't lazy. It was just a suggestion. One that I suspect everyone who reads this thread would also appreciate. I DO appreciate your list of apps, just trying to make it better for all.

I'm digging the lockscreen. I DL a bunch of styles. Set this one up. Went to settings and there wasn't a way to disable 24 hr for the clock. :what:
Edit: nvm... Once applied it goes to normal

I DO appreciate your list of apps, just trying to make it better for all.

have you ever run miui? no lie, i think its the best os out there. im more of a themer, creative, artsy kind of guy, so with customization options almost limitless in miui, it my favorite. plus its aosp, so its light on system resources and great for battery life. i miss miui so bad....
@glacierguy, I assume you're running Logmein Pro of some sort to be able to stream music / video? I've got Ignition and all my clients are using the free version...
Thanks.

Just a few questions before buying :)

Hey Guys
Thinking of upgrading to this tablet from my Samsung Galaxy Tab S due to the much higher performance when gaming.
Was just wondering if anyone has an ETA of Root access for this tablet? I use multiple root apps like Six Axis controller, folder mount, greenify and titanium backup.
Does the playstation 4 controller that you can connect to it work with all android games or does this only work when remotely playing playstation 4 games?
Last one.. Can every app be opened in 'small window mode' I have installed a root app on my tab s called MW Commander that enables me to use any app I want in a pop up window.
Any help would be most appreciated
Thanks
abillybob
There is root access, check one of the threads here in the Q&A sub-forum.
Controller should be usable for all games, but haven't tried since I don't game much.
Not every app can (by default) be opened as a smallapp. Only designated smallapps can. I don't know of the root app you're speaking of, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.
The mw app is samsung touchwiz devices only. Might be a dev thats done a sony version somewhere on The playstore though

1. Yes There is Root Access for it Just check the Dev Section
2. Play Station Controller is Only for Remotely play PS4
3. There is Just Small Apps & Widget that you can Open via Small App Manager. Like
- Compass HD+
- CameraW+
- Keep Note
Don't forget to Hit Thanks
:good:
Thanks everybody for your help
The only thing I can find on root on here is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/z4-tablet/help/enybody-root-t3154926 though it doesn't seem to be a simple/easy process and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing what has been suggested. I was hoping for a flushable .zip of some sort and a custom recovery. None of which seem to be out yet which is a shame Have any of you guys successfully rooted? How did it go?
That's a shame about the PS4 controller. I'm guessing though with root if you use the app six axis controller from the plaster you'd be able to hook up a Playstation 3 controller to play standard games all ok?
Thanks for that, as far as I can see I can't find an app that would do the same as MW Manager (I can't seem to add any app to work with small apps) which is a shame but could be overlooked if the other two would work ok.

LeanBack module-A xposed module

xposed module to modify user apps for leanback support such as emulators or sideloaded **free** games that never show up on Android TV such as NSTV.
The idea behind this to make it work is really simple....somehow the module will:
1. Load ALL user apps that don't have leanback support
2. Modify either permanently/load the app's manifest to add leanback LAUNCHER & other lines to it.
3. On restart Theoretically it should work with almost all apps being modified for Android TV.
Side note:
Any app/game that only has touch support will NOT work at all since those apps probably don't have either controller, keyboard, & mouse support at all and it will be just redundant to mod them...
(Tried playing cod zombies on NSTV...I tried all key mapping apps and nothing worked.)
THIS MODULE WILL PROBABLY REPLACE THAT **SIDELOAD LAUNCHER**
From the way I wrote this you should have already guessed that the module has NOT been made yet, since more research is needed to be done in order to progress any further than an idea, but I'm posting it now for anyone that's wants to tackle this project or help me make it(new to xposed module developing.)

No need for an xposed module. just a new launcher, there's a few out already, not great though
for the mapping, I don't think it's possible to do that, xposed or not due to different mappings per game, the shield TV community is tiny, without many developers onboard.. will be a tough to get anyone with knowledge to write anything at this stage.

ES file explorer to start sideloaded apps?
try sideload launcher, or HAL launcher for a full launcher replacement.

nah, Im saying I been using it for everything & its great, but I would like to see my non-native tv apps on the leanback lists for games...I hate to modify them manually since it is a bit annoying
Why don't you guys just use Kodi as your launcher?
I've looked into the same issue, mainly because of the norwegian TV app GetTV that is ment for customers to watch TV on any device in and out of the house and with NSTV i would have 1080p native from the IPstream instead of the 1080i the cableboxes they deliver can handle.
To make apps work that way, they need a layout compateble with DPad navigation, so changing the manifest wouldn't help much i think, and if you create an app to launch with an overlay for the app you would need to run an emulated new version of android and in that instance launch the app and have cursor/leanback support for non-native apps, that would drain the power and create even more issues, best way to do this would be for Nvidia to add a cursor mapping profile for the gamepad controller og tv remote (ex. "trippleclick search to start 'mousemode'." and then use the directional keys to move the cursor around)

Speaking personally, because that would make this flagship device very limited in terms of what you can do outside of Kodi. Who would buy a device as powerful as the Shield TV then use it simply for watching video in Kodi?
Leanback is terrible. I use Smart Launcher Pro myself, lots of options, support for remotes and automatic categorisation of applications and games.

You can create links to android apps within Kodi.

Yes, I'm aware of that. But the whole process is limited and the interface less than ideal for a device of this type, or at least if used to its potential. If we were talking about a system of limited specification that was used for little else other than video playback and a few additional apps (for example, an Amazon Fire Stick) then it would perhaps make sense. But I have 60+ applications and games installed on my Shield TV. And the idea of having to access them from within Kodi, an application which was not designed with this in mind, is unappealing to say the least.
This is funny. I enjoy how the discussion is on modifying Leanback Launcher, but all the suggestions are "Don't use Leanback Launcher".
I for one actually like Leanback and the way it works on my TV with a remote. Like it was designed for it.
In terms of the discussion at hand - this isn't that hard to implement. You don't have to hook *every* package - you just need to hook the bit of Leanback Launcher that enumerates the packages and then modify that code to always return "yes" when asking if it has the Manifest permissions for Leanback.
As I find this quite intriguing and know a bit about Xposed - I think I'll take a look at this today if time allows. I happen to have both the nexus player and shield TV system images lying around (access to both versions of Leanback), so I may just be making this.
I'll post back here if anything comes of it.
Also, I wonder if I can force the "Live Channels" app to display at the top of Leanback's home interface, like it does on my parents' Samsung w. Android TV.
While we're modifying leanback...Should we put the "non-leanback" apps in their own row, or in the same row as all the other apps?

Its own row would be great actually.. Otherwise I feel that things could become a little bit too messy. Or you could simply let the user select that via the module's option[emoji14]

can't wait for this I hate HAL, costomizing the stock launcher is the way, best of both worlds: original features AND customizations:good:
A little update:
I did some initial research into this, and found the method we need to hook in order to make this happen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/development/hooking-protected-list-inner-class-odd-t3306186
I haven't had more time to dive into this further, but I do have the initial framework started for a module. No idea when I will be able to tackle it more, but at least we have an idea of what needs to be done for anybody else who may be interested in this and know Xposed.
i do like the stock launcher, but needs more cosmetic, but i did found that the apk call OmniSwicth is wonderfull, the only thing is not fully working if somebody make work that would be remarkable,i do like the interface and using my fire tablet 7 inches with a combination the droidmote apk is the best so far for my shield tv if someone try this would know what i am talking, i am not a developer but i will be happy is somebody from XDA make this app OmniSwicth works
Anyone remember GEL Xposed before it became GNL? Thats what we need for this. I actually like the way leanback works, I just want it to load all of my apps.
Yea that's the thing that kills me about AndroidTV, its so crippled in terms of apps. I love the interface but the lack of apps sucks, it would be amazing if someone could figure out a hack that would allow the play store to show all apps.

ME TO, if it weren't for the crap play store and the lacking all the installed apps.
I installed this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/development/rom-t3321787 last night and I already miss the Leanback Launcher and how it "just worked" with the remote, the stock interface (and Nova for that matter) just don't navigate well with the remote.
honestly my dream setup would be the factory OS with the Leanback Launcher, but rooted with the FULL play Store and all the installed apps shown in the Launcher.
