White Xperia S - Pics and Nimche's view - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Design is my point of view and taste and not necessarily everyone's feeling.
There are still lots of folks here that may really want to buy Xperia S and either they can’t make up their minds or there are thing that it’s not solid for them to make the move. I was one of those people couple days ago but I usually do what it should be done so it gets out of my mind.
I have been owning some SE phone but Android wise, I started with X10 like many others here. Later I bought Xperia arc and still have it and now moving to Sony Xperia S.
I am not going to be technical about stuff right now but some design corners which had me wandered for sometimes.
I should say before and after purchasing Xperia S, I watched many videos available online and nothing (none) of them is anywhere close to what you get, so you can expect more
In video, box looks like Pizza box and wired but if you are a Sony’s product user then you are very familiar with quality and inside you won’t see any attractive pieces but simple and functional stuff which is great to see what Sony has done even to boxing as far as size, shape and coloring. Simple!

First when you take the phone out of the box, its bigger that what you imagined but in matter of 2 minutes, you will tell yourself that “this is how big the ideal phone should be” and arc looks like a baby to Xperia S but Xperia S looks and feels so powerful. Screen is gorgeous and big with lots of nice colors; I got the white one so that black screen stands itself out.
Housing is part of nature. If you happen to get the white color then expect some blending with nature and changing color. You put it in in your jean’s back pocket, it could get bluish in some part or I tried to kind of stick it into my arc’s case then all the black stuff rubbed against Xperia S and made it black but you could always wipe it off with no problem. Even if it sounds weird and something you don’t like, I really enjoyed how it could blend with whatever you do as a simple material.
Power button is extremely nice in size and shape with good functionality.
Notification light at left upper corner and it is wonderful to have it back there.
In white color, white tiny band around screen looks very nice.
Of course I am not big of flaps for HDMI and USB but it keeps your phone to look nice and simple and they are not hard to pop and slide right in.
In most of videos that I saw, they nagged about those three touch sensitive button at the bottom (whatever you call them) and that made me so worried if I may not like them. There were saying it’s hard to activate and it doesn’t work all the time but I think it is actually very useful. In Xperia ARC I didn’t like that Home button could take phone out of sleep but in Xperia S there is no such problem since only button to do that is power button on top which is well designed to do its job.
Those touch sensitive buttons are fairly nice, on each of them there is a visible dot (you see them in some angles) and with press of little finger on them you could activate them, nothing to worry about as they function as nice as they should.
And last but not lease, transparent strip at the bottom which is part of iconic looks of Xperia S is a well-designed part of the phone with lots of idea in mind. I could never imagine the day someone could bring some lighting architecture into a gadget. I think the execution is very nice with three lights lidding up the “back” “home” “menu” logos inside the transparent strip. Well-done.
Phone runs at decent speed and UI has improved drastically from what we had seen in arc and it is obvious that Sony is trying its best to gives us the best user experience which we should give them credit for not making us commercial guinea pigs by throwing new stuff without experimenting them first.
I think this phone is recommended for people that really like to have a phone with unique design, maybe its not the best high-end processing phone in the market but it is the best in its own class and functionality.
Comments and photo requests are welcome.
The End

Congrats on your phone buddy
it looks amazing , i love the white
the pictures were bad a**
im impressed with the review
thanks for the sharing
thumbs up on your thoughts

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the S, I also pre-ordered the white version so this was helpful.
I can't wait to get my hands on this beauty.

Congrats on the purchase
Finally, a decent size comparison with the Arc!
And... that does it for me. I couldn't decide between S and P, but now it's pretty obvious the S is too large. I just hope the P will be available stores soon
Would you mind taking a pic of the phones one on top of the other, screen-on-screen? Kind of like the one you took, but taken at a horizontal level... so we could get a better idea of the difference in thickness. Maybe place them near the edge of a table, so you can lower the camera to their level?
S and P are both 10.5mm thick, so the comparison will be valid for both. Cheers!

Thanks for posting the great pics. Can you clarify what you stated above? It almost sounds like you enjoy to see your phone get dirty. Not in the sense that it will display adult material, but rather in the literal sense, microscopic flecks of lint, dirt, or perhaps mud adhering to the surface of your device, discoloring it. That can't be what you enjoy, can it?

Hell yea it's not the high-end phone out there but the design wise it's the best, to be honest htc one line-up don't look great and too big and look like htc sensation xl.
I think this is the best design for so far. Gotta get this baby in my hand. can you post more pics?

Xperia P is 10.5mm and Xperia S is 10.6 and here is a pic for you. Xperia P is also nice.

Well, as I said it sounds really weird that I said it but in about 4 hours Xperia S got blue colors from my jean and black strips from a tight case. I have never touched material like it and it is very nice. Its easy to clean and maybe not the best choice for everyone but I really enjoyed how it really reacts against other material.
It also displays adult material in any sense.

took a little bit to get used to, but I love them now.
best part is that it keeps the front part of the phone smooth and flowing since there are no physical buttons, also before with my X10 my phone would wake up from standby mode because the buttons would press in my pocket but now I don't have this problem.

as you said that is the best problem. I had that issue in X10 and then arc and I was always pissed since my case was like slide the phone in. Have you found a case? Does the Negri one from HongKong?(on the box says white/ white in Chinese)? or did it come with smart tags?

Customs?
I live in Canada too (Vancouver).
Did you use Fedex?
How much customs did you have to pay?

Trying hard not to go back to Arc after 5 days with S

It's been a struggle for me from day one to like Xperia S after using Arc for a very long time. Performance wise there are no issues with S.
Out the box it did have the WOW factor. My friend got white and I went with black and I personally liked white and I wish I ordered it.
Why I want to get back to Arc?
1. I don't know how much longer it takes me to get it but those capacitive buttons need to be pressed couple of times for me. Especially the back button. I don't know if it's because I am a lefty. But even other buttons, I seem to have to try second, third time and it only gets worse in total darkness.
2. The design doesn't look as nice as in pictures. Feels like an HTC phone. It only looks cool on the back side.
3. The USB flap is a joke and it definitely won't last long for me.
4. The bottom bezel is just too wide as I expected.
5. Front camera doesn't look well designed. You can see metal petals around it making it look like a rushed design.
6. Just too thick after enjoying the sleek curvy Arc.
7. Wish ICS around the corner I think Sony rushed this product which is mostly designed for Android 2.3.7. There is no need for those Capacitive buttons when I don't find they need spot on touch. It's like hitting a bull-eyes for me with back button.
Some Pros
1. Camera responsiveness is amazing.
2. Sleep SE UI which I love and can be had on Arc as well.
3. Transparent strip is super cool design idea. I might actually consider Xperia P after I read user reviews.
Give it a 2nd thought
Aren't u being a little bit harsh on the device
U may be right with some things about the design but it doesn't make it horrible to ditch it that soon...
- the capacitive buttons could be handled by doing a slide motion on it and that gives a dynamic more comfortable move and would be a lot easier for u than righties
- the design is more than awesome, yes not like the arc but it's really neat and every model has to be different than the other, that's life, and so what it's like htc (amazing devices)
- the flap is useful for making the device more sleek and avoiding dirt which ruins most devices in the future, and it is durable and not that fragile as u think, it will last don't worry
- the bottom bezel is nothing of any concern, i advice u not to look at the bottom!
- u may be right about the front camera but not that obvious and could be tolerated
- the thick design makes it more sturdy and well fitted design to hold in hand!
- ICS is not so far away from now, and being it not present out the box is to make u appreciate the device more well in every aspect after the upgrade!!
IMO, enjoy this magnificent phone and look at its bright side and the many more pros of this master piece!!

I got the white one and it looks nicer than video and no where close to HTC. This is much more solid that the arc and it looks nice in front (maybe since I have the white one I can see the contrast of black screen with white bezel).

I agree, and thats why I liked Xperia P but I didn't like Xperia arc usb either, just the big hole that it was like a misplaced design.

isn't it as wide as upper part of the phone? If you are saying it is long then its because of that transparent part and whatever is inside that bottom. I wish they could do something about it but one issue I had with arc was that bezel is very low and I would hit stuff on screen all the time for no reason. Not to give credit to long bezel on Xperia S. maybe little bit shorter than this.
5. Front camera doesn't look well designed. You can see metal petals around it making it look like a rushed design.

I would rather to illuminate the buttons on screen and only use the capacitive buttons instead to give more room to screen itself.
ICS should be around corner (beginning of April)

Happy to have Xperia S in white.
Thanks for your review.
Noticed the button response when looking at it in store. Right handed and found it a little unresponsive to my touch. Design is super cool though. Just wish they had waited and released shipped with ics. Looks promising, worries me the amount of them that have been damaged by people, just dropping a small height.

Build quality is way better than Arc. I just played with my friends white Xperia S again and the bottom bezel doesn't feel long mainly because of the white bezel contrasting from the black screen/glass part of the phone. Looks like I might actually sell black and get back on white. I did this same crap with my Arc. Rushed for Silver from Japan and sold to only get the darker one

After using Arc for so long and now S and with Galaxy Nexus for few weeks, 4" sounds tiny these days . I hate cases but I might just consider one for S. Few more weeks with the phone and I believe the sensitivity of the buttons will probably get better due to Muscle Memory
I have just got my xps it is great no issues at all
Everything is perfect I dont know why people are unhappy dont they know what they want out of the handset I do I am a powrr user this phone is the best out there and it is sony u cant go wrong people

So go back then.
I don't know why you feel you should like this phone, taste is subjective. If you don't like it, send it back and stick with the Arc or buy something else.
Don't know where you are or how your bought the device but in the EU the distance selling regulations allow for return within 7 days (apart from damage/misuse obviously) even if you just change your mind. Assuming you ordered online, just do that.

Finally pulled the Trigger

I have read pretty much every post in this forum over the past few days, and have finally pulled the trigger on an Xperia Z ultra in black. MY HTC One was promptly sold on eBay to help fund the purchase. Really looking forward to getting it (especially as I have borrowed a friends iPhone 4s to use while I wait - such a tiny screen). Ordered it from Hong Kong from an eBay seller, really hoping I don't get hit with a massive import tax charge (I'm in the UK). I guess only time will tell. Will post my thoughts once it arrives. Hopefully my only concern re the purchase will be dispelled (will it fit in my trouser pocket).
Wellcome to the club, you won't regret it, just out of interest what the name of the company you ordered it from, wondering if it's the same as the one I used.

So hoping I wont get stung with massive import charges as Im already struggling to justify the purchase of the phone to the wife. Although my recently bought iPad mini might soften the blow if I give it to her.

Looks sound to me, got good feedback, give the Mrs the Ipad definately, heres a link for screen protectors if you want, theres loads of screen to scratch. The only cases apart from TPU gel ones are in Hong Kong or China etc.

You've probably got it sorted but theses are good with protection layers each side.

I am close to doing the same and funnily enough I also have a HTC One but just waiting to see how much the LTE version costs and then will see if I can really justify it.
Cheers for all the help with the links guys, much appreciated. I really liked my HTC One, but I used the official hard case, and it scraped the phone. I am very anal about my tech, and loose interest if it gets marked at all.
Going to have a look at the screen protectors now, dont want the screen getting damaged.

Let me know how you get on with the charges mate, Id be very interested to find out.
I actually emailed the same company yesterday to see if they could mark the value down for customs purposes I've not had a reply though.
An update. The seller above agree to mark the price at 1/3rd of the value and mark as a gift to cut down on import charges. I still haven't bought it yet. Im trying to hold out for the C6833 LTE model.

My Xperia Z Ultra arrived this morning, two day shipping from Hong Kong to the UK, and no import charges, very happy teddy.
When the package arrived the box wasn't overly large, so was thinking the phone isn't that large, I opened the box, and boy its large, impressively so.
I work in computer forensics so am fairly techy, as are the guys I work with, but I initially I got a barrage of Dom Jolly Jokes. For those that don't know, he is a UK comedian: http://cdn2.business2community.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/dom-joly-phone.jpg
Anyway, back to the phone, and I have only had it for about two hours, so they are fairly initial impression. The phone is simply stunning, yes its large, yes Im going to probably going to struggle to get it to fit into some of my trouser pockets, yes I might look like an idiot taking a call until I buy a SBH52, but you know what, I don't care. The quality of the phone is simply stunning, screen has to be seen to be believed. Now I have had pretty much every flagship Android phone, even dabbled with an iPhone 5 for a bit, have a Retina iPad and a, typing this on a Mac Thunderbolt monitor, so I have seen many high quality screens; the Xperia Z Ultra screen, in my opinion surpasses them all. The level of detail has to be seen to be believed, and when holding it watching the Smurfs 2 trailer that came with the phone, the phone actually shudders when the volume is turned up, simply awesome, its like a built in sub woofer.
I updated the software to the latest version as soon as I switched it on, and the phone has been super quick, no lags, nothing at all.
The phone has a nice weight to it, not too heavy, but heavy enough to know that you are holding a quality piece of tech. I have had no issue with sim card installation (there is a little guide on the plastic on the back of the phone), and the cover pressed closed firmly. So far I have had no issues with screen tearing, or black screen as others have reported (I bought the black one).
I feel like I am starting to ramble a little, so I will stop here. Suffice to say that if you are on the fence, and are worried about the size like me, don't be, buy it, every other phone is now looking a little small.
I will try to answer any questions if anyone has any. Oh, and these are just my thoughts and opinions, I am not saying that they are right, and if you have a differing opinion, you are not wrong, these are simply my thoughts.

Like I said in my first impressions too, its the best screen I've seen on any mobile device. Period. Can't believe pocket now said it was 'mediocre'.... If this screen is mediocre then call me blind.
But yeah, it's funny... After I unboxed mine.. I thought the phone looked bigger than the box it arrived in haha. Optical illusion

What colour would you recommend getting? I'm torn between black and white.
Black - looks sleek and smooth and discrete. Concerned about fingerprints though
White - draws more attention probably, cant see finger prints but am worried about the white framing of the display at the front distracting from the screen.
Thoughts? Help me choose!

I went for black, I normally go for white in phones, but I personally think that as its such a big device the all blacks makes it all the sleeker. I have to e honest though, I nearly got it in white, but also felt that the white would appear larger. Probably a silly notion, but hey. Phone totally rocks.
Are the fingerprints on the black as bad as they make out on the video reviews and hands ons?

Yeah the black one is a fingerprint magnet but mainly on the back. The front display seems to be more resistant to oil etc.
I bought the white one because I liked the silver framing and I thought it gave the device a more defined look

I'll go with the black. I like white phones, but they have to be 100% white (including the front), or else i think it looks a little off. The black is classy and minimalistic, while the zebra version is more stylish i guess (depending on who you ask).

Using the White Z Ultra reminds me of a Macbook Pro a little. Big screen with black glass and the silver trim around the edges. Very classy.

ZU questions: Cracks/blacks from hell?

I am very close on pulling the trigger on a ZU, coming from a Note II. However, I am quite reluctant to take the plunge because there several serious issues plaguing the ZU, so it seems.
First off, I have heard many nightmare stories about spontaneous cracks that happen for no particular (self inflicted) reason and that it takes weeks to months after to get the phone back and sometimes needing to pay for it. This of course is atrocious service by Sony. I have read a statement from Sony, saying they repair single cracked displays. Anybody experience with this issue and is the ZU really that fragile? It's a big phone and needs to survive in a jeans pocket, logically.
Secondly how bad/ good are the black values in the dark on the ZU? In daylight they seem fine, but in the dark, in bed, watching a movie... Not sure.
Thanks guys.
While I mostly watch comedies or TV shows on my phone and leave more serious watching for my ht room, I never felt bad about the black levels although it's not on par with my previous note phones. My gf is getting note 2 tomorrow so I can take some pics side by side showing the same dark movie scenes.

Thanks for that, I appreciate it. It would probably be best to take them in a pitch black room, as it would be more accurate. No experience with sudden cracks, eh?

I have only read about two or three guys around here that have cracked their screens, so it doesn't look like it's a widespread issue. It is a 6.4" sheet of thin glass though, so you should be careful with it no matter what. The screen is an LCD, so you won't get deep blacks in the dark, since LCDs have a backlight (LED). AMOLEDs don't have that, so that's why you get those deep blacks. Even my old Galaxy Note had a grey-ish black when i used it in the dark, since light from the neighbouring pixels would illuminate the area around.
The blacks looks good in normal light, but it won't look that black in a dark room. That's just how the technology works.

Thanks for your thorough reply :good: Regarding the sudden cracks, people blame the design for it, that the power button placement is the culprit. I.e. the enclosure not being strong enough and it's a design fault. Where I'm from, Holland, there was a tv show that shined a light on the many Xperia screens that cracked, particularly the Z. Hundreds of people had this issue and basically Sony left them out in the cold for weeks to months, saying there wasn't such a problem. We all know they released a statement where they state otherwise and single cracks will (no impact) be repaired under warranty. I am not eager to grab the ZU from my pocket one day and welcomed by a 'sudden crack'. This of course is a risk and a risk any adopter takes.
Regarding the black values, how is the quality of HD content in the dark, I mean are the blacks 'good enough'?
:good:

You'll just have to take the chance at this point, but it shouldn't be an issue at all. If it was, you'd be seeing a lot more people complaining around here. Regarding the HD quality in the dark, i don't think you'll have any complaints. The colors and the screen is overall fantastic, but it may take a few watches to get used to the more natural colors if you're used to AMOLED, which in most cases makes everything look fake.

You're absolutely correct on both counts. I need to take the plunge. Yesterday at Mediamarkt the ZU had a dead battery so that didn't help me taking a look at the screen. I will be doing that today at some other stores.
You're absolutely right regarding the samoled screens, they made my eyes adapt to very cartooney color reproduction. Sure it can make everything pop and the blacks are overall (not always) great, but realistic...no. I'm hoping the ZU is the middle road between the sammy's samoled and the somewhat boring IPS displays we see in LG or HTC.
Follow up: So I went on my bike to the city in the worst storm, with rain, hail and thunder, but I conquered the elements, only to be greeted in the end by the marvelous ZU. I saw it yesterday in white and today in black and damn it looks so damn classy in black. A phablet from the future. The screen is pretty much insane, a middle road as I expected, between samoled and LCD IPS. I watched some movie trailer and everything seemed insanely sharp and crisp, with natural realistic color tones.

I'm pretty sure you'll only get one opinion out of us here. Which is take the plunge!
I took the plunge so far I've even got two of the bloody ultras!
It's a long story.
I've come from a Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, and Galaxy S4.
I'm far happier with my Ultra. You will be too!
Alright so a final question regarding contrast, black levels that is, how is it for you guys? Especially in pitch black (at night, while watching videos)? Erica Griffin, who is also a XDA member, posted her review on the ZU on Youtube and mentioned her pretty bad contrast level of 680:1, whereas others have a ratio of 1000:1 and above. What are your findings? The Youtube time link can be found here:

I can't meassure my screen since i have idea how to do it, but remember that it's an LCD, so black won't be black in a dark room. It'll be gray. My friends brand new Samsung Galaxy TabPro has an LCD, and it's the same story there. Even AMOLEDs won't be pitch black in dark places. It'll be darker, but not completely black.
I don't know what else to tell you. You'll have to just check it out yourself and see if it's something you can live with or not. I watch tv shows on my Ultra every night in bed, and i'm not complaining.

Yeah the tech between amoled and lcd is vastly different, which results in various color/brightness traits. It seems there were two different panels used for the ZU, namely the AUO and Sharp, as seen on this image. Perhaps this is why there is a different contrast ratio across the board.

That would be impossible since there is still a small current flowing through the pixels, so they are never really off. But yes, closest to black as possible.

That would cause smearing, sadly, as seen with the Note 3. They fixed that later, not completely turned off.

About the cracked screen, please be careful. I thought that it could never happen to me (I use all my phones with a lote of care, as they are expensive and difficult to repair on warranty in my country). I took it out of my pants, as hundreds of times before, and a cracked screen greeted me. I've been without my SXZU for one month now, and no easy fix awaits. No warranty from Sony (I showed them those web pages where Sony acknowleges the problem), so I have to pay $600 USD to repair it.
I checked other web sites to buy the part (between $150 to $210), but I'm wary about two themes: 1. The quality of the spare part. And 2. I've been looking for instructions on how to repair it myself and let me tell you, it's not easy at all. You have to take the phone apart to get to the display. So I have to look for an expert. An experts are not cheap.
So, it is easy to break and difficult to repair. But you are living in a country that is known to repair on warranty those screen damages, as long as there is just one crack.

Not sure if the ZU is really easy to break. I asked some reps at the shop about it and they told me the problem was really widespread with the Xperia Z, not the ZU. Some people cracked the ZU, sure, but many have not. Not sure what could have caused yours. Hope it works out for you and next time you should probably get a cheap phone insurance which covers these things.

G5 quality control issues are real?

Mine is flawless. Looks perfect, no headphone issues, wifi calling works. I guess I haven't looked at screen bleed but don't really care about that. Haven't noticed any screen bloom.

True, I dont see people complaining about iphone quality that much.
But all things aside, I am hoping that UK dont get that many defective units since we have stricter QC measure in place.
Like most things, people dont bother to write unless they have a complaint. So im sure for every complaint you hear there are a hundred happy people. I have had mine since release day and the only thing i am dissapointed in is the volume buttons being on the side(which i all ready knew).

Glad to hear u are happy with your G5.
As for the volume control I am glad that they decided to put it on the side, since its easier for me to skip tracks easily while phone is in my pocket but with my G3 i have to really search for it and most of the times i would just hit the power button or camera lens
Camera lens scratched already.
I've had the phone since April 1st and i've been very happy with, however i just noticed that my Camera's glass cover in the back is already scratched. I have a case on the phone and I've been very careful with the phone. I'm very disappointed and annoyed that this got scratched up so easily! has anyone else noticed this? just seems like a very cheap material in the back. Is there any protector i can buy or will it distort the image?

That sucks. I'm pretty certain I saw a case on Amazon that covers the camera as well. Yes, it must distort the photo a LITTLE but hopefully not much. Maybe it was the Lifeproof case?

Keep your order. It'll be worth it for you trust me. Got mine from ee today. Absolutely amazing phone and in perfect condition with amazing build quality.
I've been very happy with the build quality of mine (had it since Wednesday), moving from a Nexus 5X the quality is in such a higher league in my opinion. So I am very happy. If build quality is your only concern I wouldn't worry, like others have said for every one complaint there will of been many more who have been fine! The phone (at least in the UK anyway) comes with a 2 year warranty (one year for the battery) so that has to go some way in showing that LG believe tha5 the build quality of the phone will last at least that amount of time. I've only got one problem so far which is that the camera, on both the normal and wide angle (although more noticeable on the wide angle) seems to distort massively, almost as though you are shooting through a plastic protective cover. Although I've picked at the camera it doesn't appear one was on it out of the box and I don't want to try too much harder in case it isn't and it is just a terrible software bug that it causing it! The camera in the 5X has been amazing in low light and this feels a bit of a deal breaker for me personally (the camera is the main feature even above battery). Has anyone else had to remove some a plastic cover from the camera after taking it out the box?

M8 i would just take it back and replace it, no point in taking a chance.
My G5 is flawless and looks amazing.
Got mine 4-1-16 and have had zero issues. No light bleed no calling or headphone jax issues no gaps and some say that the side ring or whatever around the phone is like sharp or something mine is not. Some people are saying the battery life sucks but mine is great i get 5 to 5.5 hours screen on time. Also if the screen is off over 8 hours like if i dont charge at night i get maybe 5 to 8% drop at most.
My suggestion is when you get your phone if you see anything wrong like sharp edges gaps light bleed go and exchange for a new one. I think I heard Lg has multiple plants manufacturing the phone and one of them must be effing up big time. I got mine at best buy so I dunno if that makes a difference
I've heard more complaints with the build quality of this phone than with any other in recent memory.
Yes, some may be nitpicky, but for a damn near $700 device, we're allowed to be picky.
I'm not saying it's a bad device, I'm just going by what I've been researching/seen instore. It sounds like it performs like a Champ but you may have to go through a few to get a solid built one.

Anyone recommend an armband for S20 Ultra?

So as we're in lockdown and allowed 1 daily exercise (in the UK) and I now have this 'massive' phone has anyone purchased an armband for the Ultra? I want to start going out for runs, to keep my fitness up a bit, so I don't turn in to big slob!
The ones I've looked on Amazon atm all seem to have poor reviews, mainly due to being too small for the phone.
Can anyone recommend??

Lol!! Hope not!
I originally purchased this for my S8+, but it does have enough room for my S20 Ultra with a Ringke Fusion case on (although it's a little snug). So depending on your case size, it may vary, but can confirm it works!

Thanks for the share, I'll have a look to see if Amazon UK have it.
Wish I could find one that has a clear window to interact with the phone without taking it out. The one I have that does kind of work like this, you have to hang around your neck - but I mostly used this in the water park or beach. I'm guessing jogging with that jiggling around would drive one crazy.

Hi, I found this one, ordered it, but haven't received it yet. https://www.quadlockcase.com/
It seems like a very good set up.

Came here to ask exactly the same thing
I found this one but I am not entirely convinced, a few reports of the thing falling off the armband, although most are good reviews.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072C3SCW6
I found a waistband thing as well and am wondering if this would just be better all round than trying to hang it on my arm, zero chance of it falling off and its easy to get it in and out of it as well. That waistband might not be the best one so I am checking out others at the moment.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sport2People-Running-Belt-USA-Patented/dp/B07D2LGY6S
Other than that the quad lock 'run kit' looks ok but its so expensive I would be scared to go near it in case I dont like it and am stuck with a useless £45 armband. One of the reviews states "because it hangs away from your arm it tends to dangle when you run". I would probably also find this very annoying.
I am leaning towards a waistband type at the moment, I can't see any downsides to it while there are so many potential downsides to anything that goes on your arm, ESPECIALLY with a phone this big.

Thanks for this info, you really have done a lot of ground work!
I think I'm with you on the waistband, it looks the best value and probably comfiest to carry our big phones! Spending £45 is a lot a money IMO, not taking away the quality of it as my boss swears by Quad Lock and I think if you have the case, the car Dock its probably worth it.
Think I may try the waistband.

Yeah the quad lock thing seems quite good if you want a whole system that can work in car/bike etc as well. I was just picking holes in their 30 day money back guarantee as I was thinking about risking it if it was risk free like they claim.... "If you purchase a Quad Lock® product from us and don't like it, you have 30 days to arrange for a return and refund. No questions asked." Except then you go to "learn more" and you get "To be eligible for a return, your item/s must be unused, in the original packaging". So you can't actually see if "you like it" because it has to be unused and in original packaging still. Seems like false advertising to me, giving the impression its all risk free and no questions asked when it clearly isn't.
The only thing that might be a problem with a waistband is if it jumps up and down when you run so I think it cant be a bumbag type that hangs down, it literally needs to be like a belt and the phone goes in the belt so there is nothing to move around when you run. The one I linked is exactly that type but I am not sure an s20 ultra would fit and some of the reviews point to the quality potentially not being very good so I am searching for others that might be better quality but the same sort of design.
Looked at a few and think I am going to go with this one

Hmm that does seem like false advertising! How on earth can it be a no quibble 30 day replacement?
I've gone and ordered the original one you sent the link for and it arrives Thursday, so I'll let you know how it is, but there's a few others that look very similar and from what I saw most reviews have the odd 1 or 2 that say the same. At least with Amazon they are pretty good with refunds, I've never had an issue with an item that's been faulty 12 months later and got a refund.
Like you say its whether the S20 Ultra fits but I think that'll be the same for most as they all seem to accommodate up to 6.5" phone's.
Running belt has arrived @ewokuk I haven't used it yet but I've tried it on with my phone and it fits with the case (plastic clear one) albeit a little bit fiddly, will do the job tho! Thanks for sharing!!

I got the Gorwrich one and that seems fine. phone fits in it but its quite a snug fit, only just fits and thats with no case (fine by me as i dont use a case). I wouldnt go with the gorwrich one if anyone uses a case as it might not quite fit. The belt seems decent quality and fits quite nicely.

Nice! This is a snug fit tbh with this one and I was worried the zip may scratch the phone as it's pretty snug getting it into that part, so will leave my case on the phone.
At least now I can go for a run without my jacket, which with the weather how it is will be a bit more comfortable! :good:

So as we're in lockdown and allowed 1 daily exercise (in the UK) and I now have this 'massive' phone has anyone purchased an armband for the Ultra? I want to start going out for runs, to keep my fitness up a bit, so I don't turn in to big slob!
The ones I've looked on Amazon atm all seem to have poor reviews, mainly due to being too small for the phone.
Can anyone recommend??
