[Q] Anyone have the logo on the back of the tablet peel off? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

The back of my tablet looks like sh*t now. It looks like it's just a sticker. Asked Asus if I could just a replacement mailed to me. Haven't heard back yet.

Good description of it.
Hope they can just send me a sticker replacement. Shouldn't be too much to ask.

Hopefully so. I lost a rubber foot on my keyboard dock (must've scraped off when pulling out of my backpack). I submitted an electronic inquiry thru the support site about getting a replacement (or two, or three). They wanted me to fill out an RMA form to move forward. There's no way I'm sending my keyboard dock in for a rubber foot. Stay tuned.

Well...looks like I'm sh*t out of luck.
Just got off the phone with Asus and they said I had to RMA it. He said they "can't" ship parts out to customers. Which is really ridiculous because nothing is stopping them from doing so. They just choose not to.
I even told the guy, it's CHEAPER for them just to throw a replacement sticker in an envelop but they won't do it. F*ckers.
Think I should just pick the rest of the logo off because it doesn't look good the way it is now. :/

That is stupid. I would take a picture and attach it to an email. Maybe you can get lucky?
But I would go online and look for a Transformer logo sticker. That or just an Android sticker. Maybe if you peel it off and clean it with rubbing alcohol to remove all the adhesive it won't look so bad. Just some ideas..

I would use a razor to remove the rext (to pick up the edge and peel it), use a mild cleaner to clean the good off, then fill int in with a nice dark paint and wife off the excess, would look nice with a pearl smoke I think.

Well, you could just put one of these stickers on, then send the pic to ASUS
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Vinyl-Decal-Sticker-White/dp/B004MGTIS8
But seriously, I'm sure their legal beagles have the logo under tight control...They don't want those stickers showing up on "knock-off" items. Just think of how pissed they'd be if they found one on an IPad
Bob

It is messed up that they would not just send out another sticker. Several others have posted some good ideas. Make your own logo and stick it on your prime.
Though I do like the the Apple Logo Idea.

I did that the first time, but I tried again. Just fired off another e-mail hoping someone else reads it and helps out.

Sure, but it's one person, one logo. Hell, just send me the "A" and the "S" part.

I apologize, my spelling was atrocious.

wow they wouldn't send out replacements in your region? that sucks dude.
Their service in Australia seems to be better, I have had asus send out replacement bits (rare monitor screws, notebook parts, mobo i/o shields, etc) for various products freely for products within warranty a number of times. Anything like that which would have a near $0 value they should be willing to ship it out.

Mine did as well. Not sure I am willing to go through the rma process.
Too bad these can't be sourced on any parts sites. I would happily pay for a replacement rather than replace the tablet.
Stav

I'm an officially finished with this issue and dealing with customer support. And I'm also, finished with Asus.
I decided to fire off another e-mail hoping to get someone else respond and help me out. The reply was a standard, "you can RMA it", "here's the link..." and "you can check out the estore" which doesn't even offer this. No where did he respond to my question.
So I tried the live chat, that still doesn't work, haha
Next I tried just calling, the first customer service agent spoke very poor English and I couldn't get anywhere with so I asked to speak with a supervisor/manager.
This guy I could understand better and he had an understanding what the problem was. We are getting somewhere now. Too bad he didn't help. I was told I could send it in for an RMA and they would GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE, haha. It was "cosmetic" and it shouldn't fall off so it's not covered under the warranty. Seriously.
I told him that if he was serious, they lose a loyal customer as I have Asus two motherboards, two monitors, a router, even a bluetooth adapter to go with my Prime and keyboard and I will never buy anything from them again. He said they'd look into the policy. haha
Losing a customer over a $0.02 sticker and postage. Geniuses over there.

Decided to give it ONE more shot and use their "escalation mail box" and here is their response:
I have taken a look into your case and I apologize for the inconvenience in this case. However please be advised that the call agents were correct in that we do not have the part for that unit. unfortunately we will not be able to address that part unless we replace the whole LCD cover and we will have to charge for the part as it is not defective. I understand your frustration, however please be advised that this is our policy.

Maybe I'm crazy but the back logo is NOT suppose to come off that easy, hell, I've TRIED to take off the rest because it look like sh*t now and I can't do it. Need to get a razor blade or something.
Can't believe they won't help me. Done with Asus FOREVER.

This is the kind of **** that asus needs to fix

Asus is a strange company. They do things either extraordinarily well or they do things extraordinarily stupid. We know which one this is. Losig a customer, and getting egg on their face in a public forum like this over what the dude said: a $.02 sticker and postage. Pure genius that.
Whats worse is he didn't get this from one CSR, or from one manager. He got it across the board, even through the escalation channel. I understand if the part is not available and does not have a stock number. This is where someone GETS OFF THEIR ASS and makes some calls and FINDS THE DAMN THING from production, and gets it out to the customer. Not where people keep quoting "Policy" and looking into "Policy" WTF?
Nor is Asus alone in this stuff. I worked for IBM for 8 years, and to get a $85 DIMM out to a multi-million dollar customer required staff meetings, going through multiple conference calls, committee, and I kid you not almost 3 MONTHS of arguing who (as in what department of the 6000 departments was going to pay for the stupid thing.
Sigh, it's that kind of thing when companies get to a certain size. Making even a simple thing happen takes an act of God. I feel for the OP. and I agree. Leave Asus and their POLICIES and buy elsewhere

Black G1 cracked screen for sale

I just recently received a replacement G1 from T-mobile. I opened it up and woo-hoo! It came with rc29 on it. Two hours later, I dropped it on the floor and cracked the screen It can now only receive phone calls. I won't go into how unbelievably pissed off I am!
I will, however, sell the phone to someone who knows how to and/or has the resources available to fix the screen. The phone is brand new. Just needs a replacement screen. If anyone would be interested in buying my G1, or alternatively knows where I can get a replacement screen, then please let me know.
Call up Tmo and tell them is this someones idea of a sick joke? Tell them it came broken and see if they will replace it?
I think ebay might have g1 parts. Also there is a professional service manual for the G1 that tells you how to take apart a G1 the correct way.
EDIT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468673 Click on the first link in the OP. Open the PDF file and goto page 18. From there it will tell you how to take apart your G1.
I did a quick search for the LCD product number 60h00152-00M and only one website came up for a screen but cost $230. Ebay had something but was from Hong Kong for $75. Its all up to you really. Good luck anyways.

I called T-mobile. They told me that I signed for the phone, saying that it was in receivable condition.
I have looked all over the web. Nobody has replacement screens...yet. The only thing that I could find was HTC. They will repair the phone for the LOW LOW cost of only $238.00. What a steal. I guess I will just have to wait until HTC releases repair parts for the phone.
should've added the insurance, waited a couple days, then made a claim. now they know its already broke.
How Much???
How much are you willing to sell your phone for, or is there anything you would be willing to trade for it?

I also have a cracked screen G1. I'm in Spain and need to buy a new screen or a faulty G1 with working screen to repair it by myself.

Call and ask for a supervisor. NOBODY opens the boxes and plastic bags while the UPS guy stands there. If he's like my UPS guy, by the time I've managed to read who it's from, the truck has vanished.

Thanks a lot for the info. The store you are mentioning is only shipping to Canada and USA. I live in Sweden however and would like to know what store on Ebay you are referring to.
I searched both pn and sku on ebay and it turns out nothing.
My glass is cracked and the screen works most of the time. Only difference is that I often have to place the thumb flat instead of just simply pointing with my fingertip on it otherwise it won't register.

Sounds like you may just need this part:
http://www.iphonerepairparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=G1FaceplateBlk&review=add
Yes it looks like exactly what I need. However It's still the same store that only ships to US and Canada only. It seems that the store is using three different url:s
https://www.cellulardr.com/
www.cellphone-repair-shop.com
www.iphonerepairparts.com/
I will try and check if they can make an exception and ship to Sweden.

Do you have anyone here that can ship it to you? I know that would be a major pain, but might be your best option. Also, I would consider contacting them and asking for an exception. They probably don't ship overseas because of all the phony deals out there.
No I don't think so. I have some relatives there but I don't have any contact with them. I mailed cellulardr yesterday but I have still not gotten an answer.
What I have done now is to remove all the glass from the digitizer. I got to know the device a little more. The digitizer is made out of soft plastic and is loose on top of the lcd. The glass is attached strongly to the digitizer. After removing all the glass with a sharp knife I have noticed that the double adhesive is very hard to remove and it gets dirty quickly. I have tried softly with some chemicals but it doesn't help so much and I'm not sure if it can destroy the digitizer. The LCD is totally fine. The digitizer should work as well but as the surface is full of "crap" It's hard to register anything. It registers better on the back of the digitizer where the surface is clear. I have been looking around for plexi and normal glass. I can't find the correct thickness but It's probably because I've been looking in non glass professional stores. I'm going to check at a glass expertise. All I need is some kind of double adhesive and a correct fit of glass/plexiglass. I think plexi would be best. It's strong but it scratches however it can be prevented with a screen protector. When I started the operation I removed the display protector and I noticed that the glass where it was most hardly hit was almost pulverized. I don't think I will be putting on normal glass again.
The glass is 1mm thick on everything except the edges. On the edges It's much thinner as it needs to stay inside the device and not fall out.
edit:
I placed an order for the armor case and crystal slip case as well on Boxwave. I don't know which I'll like the most.

They won't even let you, when I had a phone shipped to me I asked the FedEx guy if I could open it and inspect it first, he told me no. When you sign off, you only agree that the package is in acceptable condition, and it's assumed the phone didn't break inside a perfect package.
Ebay now has the lcd screens for 80 bucks here:

Its not the LCD but the digitizer that I need. Ans shipped to the UK.
If anyone is wondering what would happen if a car drove over your G1 I can tell you

Here is a link to the digitizer. It is $170.00. They really stick it to the G1 users!!!

Cheers. But as the poster above pointed out that site only ships to the continental USA. You can get digitizers for iphones much cheaper so hopefully its just a matter of time before demand is such that the prices for a g1 digitizer become more reasonable.

Exactly. However I saw a question in the faq where the store said it could ship to Japan. Still no mail from them. There is also a request of shipping a replacement part to Greece which was denied. I have mailed HTC (again) and asked if they can repair it. Last time they forwarded me to Anovo but they don't seem to be able to repair it.
By the time I have replaced my digitizer the G2 is out.

Otterbox!!!

Yesterday I looked at my defender holster and noticed that the kickstand clip was cracked on one side making it useless to me now. Sent a email to Otterbox customer service yesterday @ 9 am explaining what happened and asking how should I go about processing a warranty replacement and by 5 pm I had received an order confirmation for a free warranty replacement that was shipped to me with NO questions asked!

Dude are you kidding me? This same thing happened to me! I use my holster for work mostly. Can you give me some info on how I go about contacting them?
EDIT: Nevermind, found. Good to see I'm not the only one with this problem. [email protected]
The built in screen on my defender got scratched not more than a few weeks after owning it, plus I have had problems with getting dust under the screen. Sent an email asking if it was normal for their product and they put in an order for a free replacement. You cannot beat that level of service.
Shipping me a whole new case free. Freakin'A! Lady said they are on back order so it might take an extra week, but whatever.
I love otterbox!!!!
I spilled lighter fluid on my otterbox defender, thankfully my phone was NOT in it at the time cuz the silicone piece got all bent out of shape!!! But I called them and told them exactly what happened... That I had screwed up my case! All I needed was the outer silicone/rubber part and they said they would ship me a new one. A few weeks later, when I got the package from them, It was a replacement holster clip! Not what I needed. I called them up and told them. At all this, when I got the phone, no store was carrying the defender for the X2 only for the X and since it fit, I bought it anyway... So I told them they had sent me the wrong part, and that I needed the silicone for the X even though I have the X2 and they said they would send me the defender for the X2!!!!! So now I have 2 defender cases, one for the DX, one for the DX2, and three belt clip/holsters!!!! 2 of the holsters are the ones from the DX case which are different from the one that comes with the DX2... And oh yeah, the silicone that I spilled the lighter fluid on eventually went back to its original shape!!!
I love Otterbox and their commitment to the customer! It is outstanding!!!
i have the commuter and really like it with one exception. its a bit too slippery
Wow. Okay I have been convinced by this thread alone to go out and get me one of those bad boys as the body glove case I have is peeling back the glove when I haven't even dropped it. Can't wait till friday to get me an otterbox!! Thanks guys!
Wow glad I found this thread. I busted the clip on my Defender case a couple months ago. I was thinking I'd have to buy a whole new one. I contacted support and they are going to send me a new clip for free!
Awesome customer service! Will definitely use them for any cases in the future and recommend them to anyone.
They were on backorder but....... I just went to the mailbox and found my free upgrade to the droid x2 defender case. I don't even have to send the X1 case back to them. Otterbox doesn't suck!!!!!

Went with the seidio extended battery. Oh well backup case for the more extreme times I suppose.
Otter box is awesome. I have the commuter case & would ever use anther case again.
I decided to finally grab me a defender after work today since my body glove case pretty much just fell to pieces on me. I got it from Verizon store but with the discount my job gives me I only had to pay $35 for it which ain't to shabby.
Only bad part is that when I was waiting for the bus I noticed the box they sold me had been opened or tampered with. So I quickly walked back and the guy swapped it no questions asked which was nice not to have to waste time since my bus was nearing.
On my way back to bus stop I saw the bus coming down the street. So naturally I start running to the bus stop. Well don't ya know my phone decided it was gonna FLY out my pocket in the middle of the street. My heart stopped. I hadn't put my defender on yet. I watched in slow motion as it slammed and bounced on the street sending my body glove case scattering across pavement. To male things worse it had been POURING RAIN all day. I froze as I saw my near mint condition(now naked) x2 sliding SCREEN DOWN on wet pavement toward a healthy puddle. Luckily it stopped just short of the puddle of no return.
I quickly scooped it up and ran to get on the bus. Ahh. Nice. My screen protector I decided was a good investment months ago took the brunt of the damage. There is however now scratches and nicks on the edges and corners of my phone itself. Not so bad considering what could have happened. But nonetheless aggravating that it isn't all nice and smooth now.
I have the now wretched useless body glove case that SHOULD have stayed on to prevent those scratches prepared for execution by burning at the stake with a nice little firework display to seal the deal. Body glove you failed me when I needed you most. Otterbox has come into my life at the best possible time to replace your sorry ass.
Yes this is a TRUE story nothing exaggerated
I just can't believe that happened right after I bought the otterbox. The body glove case was ALWAYS a pain to pull out my pocket and got stuck all the time. Just ironic that this was the only point in which it was able to freely leave my pocket. Its like it knew it was being trashed and wanted to get one last dig in on me. Well now I havebthe last laugh with my left over fourth of july goodies HAHAHAHA(evil laugh)

Wow lol. The only thing I don't like about the otterbox defender case is that it doesn't disburse heat very well. I had mine in this case from day 1, and now that I have a seidio extended battery I cannot use the case. Right below the battery on the X2 gets very hot when using 3G for long periods of time, and I've noticed that I have a very small 'mutation' right there where it has warped upward. Nothing really noticeable unless you are obsessed with the looks of your phone.
That's probably more the radio getting hot. That thing damn near burns me. Which in turn also gets battery very hot and computer sensor reads hot also. Which scared me a few times my cpu sensor was reading around 150. That's a medium steak for gods sake lol. that's fully cooked fish. Lol. That'd freaking HOT!
Hopefully this "soon to arrive" update fixes this or addresses it a bit at least for better efficiency

My phone gets hot when using 3g at my house due to HORRIBLE signal so my radio/phone is fighting hardcore to pull in some type of signal worth using. Im talking signal of-110dbm to about -90 if I am lucky.
Anywhere else it don't get very hot. I've noticed if signal is -85 or better I don't really have heat problems. Just hoping new update comes with a kernel that includes for efficient use of the radio. Im not sure if that's how it works or bot tho lol.

Definitely among other things. Sorry u guys are having those issues. I mainly use wifi at home and anywhere else I go that provides free wifi. But i have never experienced that particular issue.

Dropped 3ft, broken Amoled Panel under the glass..phone works fine.

Of course, I have no insurance. I have half my devices insured, but since I dropped my iPhone 4 on concrete so many times and went on two years with no claims, I decided to take a risk this time. Bad decision.

Oh Samsung. Haven't you bonded the display panel to the glass? I'd rather have to replace the glass (simple affair sometimes) than the display itself (I'm expecting around $250, when it's available).
You can see the damage under the glass, on the top right corner (where I think the phone fell first). The glass is intact. Phone doens't have A SINGLE SCRATCH. Nothing, nada. The case is just barely scratched, and although it's precisely where the elago has an opening, the metal band behind it is mint.
However after a brief greening tint when I could see it's still responding to touch, I went to settings blindly, etc. It answers call, lock and unlock fine. Just the display under the glass is chattered, you can clearly see if you look at the right spot/angle (about 1/2 in long).
It fell from, what 3ft?. It's my laundry room. I was coming from the garage with groceries, dropped the phone over the counter, I turn around and it fell. Using the thin elago case (the same type used on my iPhone4).
Oh man. Waiting on a display to show on ebay and I'll do the replacement myself. Nothing for the i717 yet. Suggestions welcome (other than use an otterbox case (are you f*ing kidding me?) or buy insurance next time (I know that and I take full responsibility for it), re: repair shop, dealers, etc.
I mean are there any other options? Should I take to the AT&T store/Samsung and claim it should have survived such a fall? Looks like a lot of Samsung devices are prone to break behind the gorilla glass, so maybe they know about it and they don't care.
Correct me if im wrong but you do have 30 days to add insurance. Now morally may not be right but i think its still possible to call up and add it since phone just came out.

I know, thanks, but I can't do that. It's tempting, but it's not for me. I have to own up to my stupidity . I hope I can warn those who came from other phones...internally, it's fragile.
tx for the headsup Rip! sorry as well. makes me think harder on Ensquared insurance.
I got the Best Buy insurance on my Note, now I'm glad I did. I broke my Galaxy Nexus screen last week and I have no insurance on it, so I feel your pain!
same thing happened with my samsung captivate a couple of years ago but it died instantly ... no insurance.. i called ATT and begged for help..they did $125. for a new cappy at the time... i just told them i dropped it ..can you help...
You might have some luck getting it repaired at a local AT&T Device Support Center...couldn't hurt to give them a call.

Ensquared was offering the $58 for 1 year with a 30 day waiting period for claims. I got it. I never waste money on insurance, but they cover theft and loss. I would do that if I were you and just wait it out. They're insurance. That's what we pay them for. I wouldn't say immoral, Just business that they offer.

Thanks sent. I called them, got the local office, he said what they do is to replace one phone for another under warranty. In my case, he called "pressure crack on the display", is not covered.

I've just got the att insurance, which claims a 24hr replacement for loss. Not sure how they deal with fixable damages though. I'd better look into it

I have had them in the past, never used though.
However, I know they can ask for your wireless bill. If you don't use your phone, THAT phone, for 30 days, it will show. Then they might decline coverage, and you're going to have a lot of free time to fight it. Totally possible, but not for me.
Plus, it's 58 plus deductible, I think it's $75? So I'd be looking at $125+30 days (plus uncertainty), versus $250 for the replacement and the satisfaction of doing the right thing yourself?
The only bad thing on my plan is that the display is not available anywhere I looked. It'll take a month to get my hands in one, I fear (esp. if shipped from Korea).
The same thing happened to my friends Razr Maxx...glass is fine but screen underneath broke...i hate getting insurance but it looks like i might have to sign up for ensquared.
If you are a long-time customer they may still help. I've never had insurance. Had a phone about 7 years ago that just suddenly stopped working in the middle of a call. Called them up to see what they could do, they replaced it for $50. Exactly a year later in almost the same place my wife's phone stopped working (dropped in water very briefly, didn't trigger the water exposure strip). Called them up again, replaced her phone for $50. I think they forced me to re-up for 2 years each time. I vaguely remember thinking the 2nd time that it wasn't really a 2-year extension since we already had an additional year because of my phone replacement.
Can't hurt to call and ask. I've had the same account since 1994 so I'm sure that helped.

So you move your sim to an old phone and use that for a month. I've already tried my new sim in my old phone since my old phones ARE my insurance plan (to get me through until I can get a subsidized phone again) and it works fine. So they could never prove you didn't use your damaged phone by looking at your bill.
I don't think so, just two years in my case, and currently I have my tablets insured by squaretrade (via ebay). But thanks, it pays to be a loyal customer sometimes.
There's doing the right thing, and then there's doing the right thing cause it's the right thing to do.
Big business does not always do the right thing. And we, the consumer, suffer the consequences and price hikes.
Since you can still do the ATT insurance, go for that. They made 4 billion in profits this year. Just one way for the consumer to fight back. Just my opinion. Good luck in your quest for a fix.

Check with your home/renters insurance agent you may be covered under that policy and realize it.
Check with the credit card you used to purchase it, they may have it under that.

Bent my LTEVO today... Can the issue be fixed permanently?

As the title says, I somehow managed to bend my phone today... Sitting in my shirt pocket without moving, pulled it out and it was bent.
Bent it back without issue but it has me wondering... Is there anything we can add to the phone itself to make it more rigid? Maybe do a One X back swap with a cutout for the kickstand (pipe dream probably)? I may even give up the kickstand for a properly supported backplate.
I'm currently using a Cruzerlite TPU case, which I love, and I don't want to get rid of it for something more rigid (and thicker), so I'm curious what other options there are? I'm not opposed to taking the phone apart and looking into some options... Maybe even something like thin metal rods that can be fed through the kickstand with a couple of small holes?
If there's no way to fix the issue permanently, I'm honestly very tempted to look into some other phone choices... I'm cautious with my phone (which is why I put the phone in my shirt pocket instead of my pants pocket in the first place) and it still happened. Next time I might not be so lucky on bending it back, and I'm not ready to fork out the $100 for insurance to replace a phone with (what I consider to be) a defect.
Am I crazy for expecting my phone to stay in one piece like every other phone I've owned, or is this the way phones are moving towards (giving up build quality for thinness sake)?

Weld a support beam along the sides?
Really would need to be something along the back, and as wide as possible. Might take the phone apart to the bare pieces to see what we're working with.

then dont treat this thing like its "tough" because it obliviously is not. Hell, just look at this thing. This is a prime example on why devices like this should not be made this thin. And people wonder why their phone bends when they put it in a back pocket of a tight pair of jeans *rolls eyes*

i keep mine in my pocket too but this often happens because people are wearing pants and what not that are too tight thus, causing their phone to bend when the pants are constricted during movement.
Ex: putting phone in back pocket of jeans and bending over/sitting on it.
I have no sympathy for people who bend their phone doing these things. If people cant realize that aluminum wont bend on such a thin phone then its their own damn fault.

There is a long thread on this problem and it is bending in front pockets also. I really think the only thing to do is put a sturdy case over it.

As a former repair tech for Sprint, MOST stores will consider that physical damage. There are some, I was one of them, that would exchange it, under the right circumstances, but most will not. It will depend on the level of damage and with Assurion cracking down on Sprints exchange policy (Assurion doesn't just do replacements for damaged beyond repair, lost, or stolen... They do all refurbs as well) Sprint tech are being more selective about the phones for advance exchanges. Your absolute best bet, is a repair center at a Preferred Retailer. They have slightly looser rules and quotas to follow. Good luck guys!! Hope this helps.

For all you people talking about skinny jeans and what not, my phone is bent as well and I've put it in the leg pocket of my cargo shorts since the day I got it. As someone else said, there is another thread about this, it's a known issue. The phone tends to bend just above the kickstand. I bought an Otterbox Commuter in the hope that it will prevent my phone from getting worse. I've had a TPU case on it from the start but everyone has said really good things about the Otterbox so I figured I'd give it a try.

I'm kinda with this quote. I was being polite when I posted the link to the other thread on this very same issue.
The phone is solid guys. As a former repair tech for Sprint who has taken every single phone they sell apart, I can say this phone is sturdy. I have also taken this phone apart and beat on it pretty hard with power tools and an assortment of sand paper to polish the rear aluminum housing. I simply held it in my hand and sanded on it for hours, puttind a lot of stress on the part you guys are all calling weak, with out the screen or anything else the adding structural support.
I have had no issues what so ever and I only use a tpu case, if that.
If your phone is damaged, its not fair to place blame on anyone but yourselves, or possibly someone else if they were responsible.

Corrosion on charging contacts

I had been having trouble charging my Gear S for the past few weeks. After placing it in the charging cradle, it wouldn't consistently charge the watch. I found it was very finicky and that I had to have the watch in the cradle just so or it wouldn't charge.
I took a closer look at the charging contacts today and noticed a little bit of green gunk on them. I carefully cleaned it off and found this:

Any suggestions?
Are the metal tabs actually deteriorating or is that still corrosion? I think (key word think) the tabs are made of brass which is corrosion resistant. Get some contact (used for electrical parts) cleaner and spray it good to get all the crap out that's in between the contacts and directly on them. Use the tiny straw that comes with a can of it to spray it. Be sure not to get any of this on the screen as it may not be good for it (not sure but play it safe). If the corrosion is still there try using a piece of scotch brite on the contacts then spray it off again well. That should do it.

The charging contacts are deteriorated. I tried cleaning it up using a few methods, but it looks like the material has been eaten away.
I went to the carrier and they ordered me a new one, replacing it under warranty.
I'm surprised they deteriorated. I hope this doesn't become a common thing for all

I had the same issue, except I had to fight T-mobile tooth and nail to get a new one They can't seem to stand up to daily wear and sweat, and I'm fairly active Outside too, I emailed Samsung about the problem to only get a general copy/pasted email back.
Yup, that looks just like mine did. My local Sprint store hadn't seen anything like it, but after a short examination and discussion, they decided to order me a new one under the insurance plan. I just picked it up this evening.
In doing a little bit of research, there was another smartwatch that had this problem. They found it was the combination of human sweat and electricity (even minute amounts) flowing through the contacts. A firmware update solved that problem. Nobody realized the contacts were active when the watch was being worn.
I wonder if residual perspiration on the contacts had the same effect when I put my Gear S on the charging cradle. I plan to wipe off the contacts with a soft cloth or tissue before charging it at night.
Sweat!
Yes, I've been pulling my hair out for weeks with this charger not working. My solution: Take a dry toothbrush and rub the contacts on both the battery and the watch. Charging just fine now.
Edit: This wasn't a solution, just a bit of luck. The contacts on the back of the watch are corroded and have holes in them where they match the pins on the cradle.
Yikes! I just noticed that one of my contacts is starting to erode! The others are OK, but the one on the far end is eroding away.
OMG, I just checked and mine are corroding as well. At first I thought the contacts were dirty, but the black won't wipe away, and when checked under a magnifying glass, they are indeed corroding
I am active and use the Gear S when running, so sweat gets to it all the time. So disappointed with Samsung: first the charger disaster and now this!
I bought my Gear S up front from ATT and use it with a T-mo SIM card. I don't think ATT will be replacing it, will they?!
I am sorry about you guys experiences. But I must ask what are you doing with your watches? I ask because I have had my Gear S since launch, even got in on an early T-Mobile release. I charge mine daily, wear it everyday. Used it in the shower, even went swimming a few times by accident and to show off. I workout with it, I go biking and running. But I see all these posts about the charger breaking or in this case contacts corroding. I just don't get it. Granted in my lifetime I have met and seen many who don't take care of their possessions and just break and replace things. But even with my gear S I don't really do much maintenance. Granted, I just found out about 3 weeks ago about wiping the band with a little alcohol to clean it and get rid of the smell generated by excess moisture exposure. But I do wipe off moisture anytime I realize it. These are man made things and won't last forever, but I am surprised at the things I see happening. Now I will mention one thing I didn't like, but it was my fault. About a week ago I was walking out of one of my bedrooms turning off a light and my band got caught on the door panel and my band riped right where the big metal buckle is attached. In hindsight I believe exposing my band to the alcohol (which I did just once) made this easy to happen. I did super glue it back at the tear and it's still holding up. I was heart broken, but it finally gave me an excuse to buy the various color bands I have been watching on ebay and amazon. But back to the issue, as long as your keeping your watch clean of moisture and corrosive chemicals for an extended period of time, you shouldn't have to worry about the problems in this thread. Hope my info helps.

Please, I baby all my gadgets and never had a charger break. Ever. Until the Gear S charger that is. I have been super careful with how I attached and detached the charger and mine finally cracked as well. It lasted me over 6 months. It's just badly designed.
As to the contacts, no clue why that is happening. I never shower or swim with it... Just use it daily, and it does get sweaty when I go running. I know I did not cause it through misuse, because I take care of my toys.
After reading this thread a couple weeks ago, I too noticed that the contacts on my watch were corroding. Mainly the outer contacts were. I sent the watch into Samsung for them to look at it, and they replaced the whole watch, covered under warranty.
I have had mine for 9 months and I have corroded terminals too. I have taken very good care of the watch and it's never got wet and I really don't do any activity that makes me sweat that much either! So I was quite shocked that this should happen to such an expensive device.
I phoned O2 and they have agreed to replace it, so I am happy about that, and will probably start putting some masking tape over the contacts, which will be a pain but at least it should prevent it happening again.
I think I read somewhere that Samsung have changed the design of the back of the watch and the charging unit. Will be taking mine in to the Samsung service centre in Pattaya, Thailand in a couple of days as I hear they're just replacing the entire watch package with no questions asked. Will report back.
Just confirm. I got a new watch and new battery. Been redesigned. Contacts on back of watch look smaller and chunkier. I can't see any difference in the battery but it feels smoother to attach.

After a few emails to Samsung support, I wasn't getting anywhere, they just kept saying it was damage so not covered by the warranty. This is BS of course. So I called them and spent sometime explaining the problem, the guy put me on hold to discuss it with someone else. He came back and said they had not had anyone complain about this before. Hmmm I doubt that. However they have asked me to return it for inspection. I am posting it off today.

Samsung support in Thailand is excellent. They were fully aware of the problem and replaced the watch and charger immediately. If anyone at Samsung tells you they don't know about this issue, then I'd send a letter by FedEX to the head cheese in your country.
I'm so afraid about these horror stories.

I sent the watch back to Samsung and they replaced it within 1 week. They only replaced the watch part (I was hoping for a new strap and battery too - but hey ho!) So I am happy they acknowledged the defect.
The new watch is identical, so it doesn't look like they have modified the contact pins in production.
