Why, oh WHY is the rezound So laggy for a duel core phone? - HTC Rezound

i have tried almost all the roms out there, sense, no sense etc and the rezound is SO laggy. especially on ICS. the last thing i tried yesterday, was the stock LEaked ICS, and i debloated it myself, and it is so slow. i had to do a battery pull 4 times on the way home last night while using instagram. honestly, im using my INC2 now, and it is so much less laggy and faster on both, ICS and GB
the specs are so nice, but man, its terrible. the ONLY thing i have not tried are custom GB roms. i SO love the look and feel of this phone, and the battery life is good. but man, i cant take the laggyness. i sooooo want to solve this
thoughts?

maybe you have a lemon?

Not sure what lag you're seeing. Mine is pretty good. Every now and then some lag will creep up but overall its lagfree and snappy.

Most roms I've tried even gb roms are somewhat laggy except rezrom gb. Nils business ics is also good for me. Ics lag is mainly due to kernel as there is no source yet. Is the stock Rom laggy for you as well? I've noticed this phone doesn't respond too well to underclocking like my EVO did

the stock ICS leaked ROm, the latest one is not to bad, but is it laggy, and froze alot. no messing with the OS at all eiter. got really hot too for the first time

duel core?
Also, coming from a 512mb phone that was also dual core this phone flies
its just the battery life that's ****

yeah that sounds like you just got a bad phone. I'm running new ICS leak, Rooted, desensed myself and whatnot, also put it into tablet mode and it flies like crazy! No overheating or bad battery life. Ya got yourself a lemon.

Stop using Instagram? I thought I had read somewhere that Instagram and ICS don't always play nice yet (at least on our ROMs)

How does one define lag anyways? What I might think is fast and quick maybe to slow for you. But as the others have said you may have a lemon. Look in the general thread for on how to s on. You will have to run the latest Gb ruu then do the s on command. I do not know it of the top of my head right now.. but make sure you are on a signed stock hboot before you s on

there's got to be something wrong with your phone. i'm still on stock & performance wise it's comperable to the galaxy nexus. oh and battery life sucks on all 4g phones.

Very true....i define lag as, when i press the home button, it takes a sec or two to get to home, all other phones i have owned goes right to home. opening apps, kinda slow compared to other phones as well. typing, VERY laggy unless i shut off vibration and the pop ups...

try factory reset it help sometimes after debloating
is ur rezound getting hot ?
its lags everytime ?
what the score u get from linpack ?
did u use setcpu ? or same app ?

Mine does not do that at all.
I do a fair bit of texting all day & using Smart Keyboard Pro with vibration/popups on I get absolutely no lag whatever.
My phone will run weeks at a time without rebooting or freezing & I don't remember it ever FCing in any situation.

Ahh hrm maybe it's just the Sense 4.0 ROM's that Instagram may or may not work on....haven't run a 3.6 ROM in a long time

I have a similar problem to the original post. It has been taking about 2-3 seconds to enter settings, bookmarks within browser, etc. I have boiled it down to maybe a hardware issue. My phone ran great on GB though, so idk.I am rooted with s-off on the ICS leak with the fixed kernel. It usually runs good after first installing a rom, but then lag along. And this is with no apps downloaded.
I have another unrooted, non s-off Rezound with GB and it flies. I think I am going to switch to that. Hopefully when we get official ICS I can compare the two devices.
Long story short, I have the same problem but I am finding most people don't have this lag issue. Don't know what is causing it. Maybe I screwed up my hardware during s-off.

I have no clue, good question though. Worth looking into for others. Although I think there is a way to get back to S-ON in a thread in the Development section? My phone was Stock S-Off so I lucked out with that, so I'm sure I can, I'm sure you would be able too as well.

[Q] Looking for a little advice

So! My mother is on the lookout for a new phone, and this guy is cheap on Verizons site. Her phone that she has now, the LG Revolution, has constant freezing issues that irritate her beyond all belief, and because I know Android she dumps them all on me. I'm looking for some questions answered about this phone before I decide if this is the phone for her:
I have read on the Engadget Review that this phone freezes often. After custom ROMs are installed (I'm thinking MIUI), is this problem alleviated?
The LG Revolution has this weird issue where it's way too easy to scroll on it, which makes opening icons on any homescreen app drawer a huge PITA.
I basically need to be able to install ROM, drop it in her hands, and feel comfortable that she's not going to run into any hardware issues with the phone. This includes freezing because of memory issues.
Also, the drop of 4G isn't an issue, it's not in the area anyways.
Thanks guys for your comments and advice ahead of time.
This device pretty much poops on the revolution. That being said my device never froze when it was stock. We have alot of rom options from mtd based roms such as android 4.0 ICS v4, CM7.1 stable, Miui, Tsm pool party...also there are some really good TouchWiz Ginberbread roms such as, Superclean v.5, PWGB, Geewiz etc... I currently am bouncing between cm7 and ICS, but I cant say those are the best roms, they all are pretty good. You will just have to try them and see what your mother likes best.
No freezing problems here, although it does bug out on me with random pressings of the back key. Sometimes the phone will enter screen capture mode and take a screen shot every time I try to power it down. Removing the screencapture apk solves this.
Overall it has been a good phone and has served me well. Gotta love that Samsung display!
I havent had this device for that long, but I love it compared to by old Droid X, mostly due to nicer screen, better battery life, and easier hack-ability.
That being said, I personally am curious on what has been done, if anything, to the LG.
Has it been rooted?
Are you running aftermarket software?
Some freezing issues can be solved by changing ram parameters, others by getting rid of certain bad apps.
I personally would like to see if your problems are actually solvable before getting a new and unfamiliar device, just for S&G's of course
It is rooted, and even after messing with the ram settings tweaked it still freezes. The other problem is that it dies way quickly, even with JuiceDefender and a calibrated battery. She's only had it for a week, so she's not yet settled on that one's ways.

I've had this phone for almost two years now and I've never had it freeze up on me. Install the SuperClean3 ROM. Solid ROM for that phone. I currently have ICS but for your mother's phone use SC3.

I'm also a fan of SuperClean. Great rom, with none of the AOSP issues that I find to be annoying enough to avoid. If you want to tweak it a bit, add KGB kernel and maybe a different launcher (I like OMFGB-Launcher) and Rom Toolbox will handle just about everything else. This is my setup, no major tweaks (lag fix, etc) other than zram and 1.2 gHz overclock. Fast and stable.

[Q] ICS web page rendering help!

Does anyone else have problems with web page rendering slowly on ICS? I've tried various ICS roms pre new firmware and post new firmware, with maxthon, dolphin, and opera and the webpages load much slower and in block segments on ICS. Also, clicking links can require multiple presses or having to long press and hit open. This is the main reason I cannot stay on ICS for longer then 2 days at a time. Feels like it defeats the purpose of lte. I'd love to have some feedback on this.
This is a new feature in ics, it supposed to help.pages load faster
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
The only time I have any issues in the stock ICS browser, dolphin, or ICS Browser+ is when the page loads flash plus tons of other crap like http://escapistmagazine.com . And even then it's only a bit slow.
I have realized that but is anyone actually finding it to be slower and harder to get links to work like I am? Maybe I'm crazy and it just seems longer? But I really doubt it. I never get mad at my browsing speed on GB but on ICS I get frustrated quite often. I research things on my phone constantly so every little bit is noticeable. They're not intensive sights either. It is usually forums, newegg.com, and sites of that nature...
yeah ive tried every browser out there and the web page rendering and lagginess is horrid on the ics roms.
I'm on rezrom 3.3 right now and so far maxthon seems to be the smoothest. Dying for some aosp
Also, handcent not having pictures on ICS really bugs me as it is my go to messaging app. I know there is a fix for that but really annoying if you flash a lot and are a noob to adw like me

Probably some hack job version that you need to use safestrap on for the dual boot. Plus I think it's on the GSM version only because of the LTE radio again. Could be wrong about the RAZR but I don't look @ those forums anymore. If you really want AOSP so badly what's stopping you from getting a Nexus?

The amazing screen, camera and not toy build feel on the rezound is what made me get it over the nexus. I know aosp will come and I'm semi-patiently waiting. They have some good devs for the nexus though, I came from a dx and a lot of them went over to the nexus.

I love the feel/build of moto phones. If I wouldn't have side by sided the screen quality of the maxx and rezound I would have got the maxx. My gf just got a bionic because it was the cheapest decent 4g phone and it's faster then my rezound (but the screen is AWFUL). Think sense is the culprit and makes me like it even less.

If you do go to moto your only complaints will probably be the screen and camera and maybe the locked bootloader which didnt bother me much on my dx cuz it is really only good for undervolting and right now you can only do that with GB on the rezound as far as i know.

From a user standpoint I didn't mind having the boot loader locked. I do enjoy undervtythough as I did se a small increase in battery life doing so on incredikernel. The screen was the deal killer for me, but if the Maxx would have had this screen and camera I probably would have got it instead. Still have reboot menus and can flash splash screens and custom boot animations on a locked bl through rom toolbox. Jrummy did great things for the dx

got the OTA ICS update. WTF..it sucks bad.. its so damn slow and crippled

Seriously, im disappointed. I loved my phone before the update, but now..after getting the update, I hate it. I want it OFF my phone. It totally fd up this phone. Pinch zoom is incredibly SLOW and CHOPPY. It freezes and lags like a SOB. And facebook...forget it. I visited the full site constantly because the mobile site caused too many problems. It used to be so fluid smooth. Now it kerps freezing and lagging. The POST/COMMENT button wont work most of the time. I have tried 2 browsers and Its the same problem on both. Also it wont stay centered when im typing. If I try to scroll it to see my text im typing, it forcfully moves back to the other location. What kind of update is this? It broke System Panel so now the cpu usage meter on the top right stays peaked out at 15xxmhz almost. Is there any way to fix these problems? 1 hour and I already cant stand it. This blows! Id rather use my Touch Pro 2 than this if I could. :/

Im sorry if I came off the wrong way, in a way certain parts are quite speedy...but others, like Facebook took a huge hit. I tried a few of my emulators. They seem to work. Nesoid even works despite what I have heard from others. But it seems to lag on frames. Like, the video frames will appear faster but it will skip many thus the motion is choppy instead of fluid. N64oid works faster. I guess thats a plus. I only tried Goldeneye. Typing seems more accurate, but this sollg and screen jumping business is making it very difficult to type..with what was once cake. It wont stay centered on your text. The text boxes in facebook nuke the cpu as soon as you click inside them. It wasnt bad at all before this. I have not tried maps, but since you asked, I might as well.

Unlike on locked down Motorola phones, it is perfectly possible to revert to gingerbread.
1. Unlock Bootloader with HTCDev
2. S-OFF with juopunutbear
3. Run Gingerbread RUU
4. You can stay S-OFF and Unlocked, or if you want to, S-ON and relock.

Right? I was on gb until like a month or two ago and I still prefer gb firmware over ica firmware. I have yet to try the latest radios but I still love the gb radios
I found Opera Mobile to work better. But damn...and yea, its either revert back or custom ROM. I still have not ever flashed before. Guess its one of those things I worry about because if reading a few horror stories of someones phone being bricked after flashing or phone radio not working.
I have seen people in here praising ICS left and right like it was the best update ever. I dont come in here often enough so maybe I missed the posts saying ICS is slow. I wonder if it is Sense 3.6 causing the slowdown?
Most things are the same probably butvsome stuff is def faster and hardware acceleration/gpu rendering makes everything completely smooth and not choppy like GB. Things will get better with some gud kernels when they release source

Time to scrap the TB?

When the TB first came out it felt very snappy, very smooth and fairly quick. Rooted it and after some time it just seems to have no hope and I dont know why. I have flashed almost every Rom out there and it seems to work fine for a little bit and then within a week it is back to its VERY laggy performance. When the S3 came out, I got that and my wife wanted my TB. She is getting tired of me playing around with the phone and trying to get a performance fix and just wants a new phone. Should I try to unroot it and run it stock for her? Otherwise she may look at the moto razr M or the inc 4g. (not a phone I would have, but its not up to me)
The phone slowing down may be certain apps impacting performance, so you may want to look into that. Also if you haven't already I would ditch sense based roms and give AOSP a try.

I was really looking forward to trying out the newest AOSP 4.0.4 ICS by twistedumbrella. Have you tried this yet? I haven't been able to get past the "bootloop" but it seems that some are & some aren't. I believe you'd love the rom if it works on your TB.
Keep in mind all aosp liquid/twisted builds the video recording does not work. Knowing most women camera and camcorder is a must lol.

This is some good advice for the OP. I recall running a deodexed 2.7 or something a while back that would probably work well for the OP. It is sense based but it was very stable and everything works.

Otherwise she may look at the moto razr M or the inc 4g. (not a phone I would have, but its not up to me)

If she's looking for something that is smoother with less lag then stock definitely won't bring her that. If you're able, I'd look into getting a newer phone. The Thunderbolt is at its end of life.

So what's everyones opinion on the stock ics ota?

My girlfriend's thunderbolt is still running good on stock unrooted FROYO. We have great LTE coverage. I never wanted to risk a bad update. I'm not going to root her phone. Is it worth the upgrade?

Root it but I wouldn't flash the stock ics by any means. It seems that it is slow for a lot of people.

If I am reading this right, you are NOT going to root the phone, and want to know if we think its worth it to upgrade from the original stock FROYO build to ICS?
YES!!!!! If you are not going to root and install a custom ROM, the ICS build has way better battery life and 80% less bloat. It should run smoother than the original FRYO build.
My recommendation tho would be to root it and install the debloated stock or a custon build by Santod once he finishes them up.
Good luck with your Bolt.

Superwipe be4 installing santods, also follow his instructions to a T. Plus don't forget to recallibrate your bat.
Also, do not restore any apps on 1st boot.
I have no lag.

I am on the debloat/deodex Santod released, 0 lag, everything runs smooth here, if you have issues try a fresh install following all the instructions, maybe something just didnt go 100% the first time.

I have heard of some people having really bad lag and others for whom it worked really well. It may be an issue that actually effects each Bolt differently. However, I have noticed that many smartphone users, especially enthusiasts who frequent this forum and others, expect everything on their phones to happen instantly, quickly, the very second they click on it. Anything that takes a moment longer than that is considered "lag."
I ran the stock, unrooted ICS for several days and it ran really well. If you don't want to root her phone, or she doesn't want that, I would go ahead and take the upgrade because it is leaps and bounds ahead of froyo, GB, and Sense 2.1. Any actual lag won't even really be noticeable and the signal and battery life will improve. One thing I learned from rearing posts from early stock upgraders is that you should delete her texts before upgrading. For some reason, having lots of texts in there prior to upgrading created serious lag when opening the SMS app.

Is there any difference in game performance between GB and the stock ICS OTA?

I've noticed the lag also. I'm pretty sure it's a sense issue. Installed nova launcher and have no lag issues with lag when I use it.
Also, remember that people perceived "lag" differently. So to some the stock ICS rom is laggy while to others its smooth. Unfortunately without rooting her device she won't be able to experience the difference and to decide if its worth it.

Downloaded Nova launcher, HUGE difference... Running much better now!
I never understood why people think that a different launcher on top of sense makes it run better?
Please explain it to me because the way I understood it was that sense was still all there and running in the background and you just added nova/whatever on top of it.
If thats the case another launcher can not reduce lag but if anything only add more.....
Again please inform me if I am misunderstanding this.

The messages thing is perfectly true. My wife's messaging app took forever to open post update. For a few days it was near unusable. Now its better.

I can't really argue that it doesn't make much sense, however using the stock launcher their would be huge lag when unlocking the phone or opening apps or the app drawer. After installing Nova Launcher the is no lag at all now. When I switch back to sense, the lag magically reappears.
No need to point out whether it seems to make sense or not. It’s the results that matter.
When you set your default launcher to Nova and the phone boots without launching the sense launcher which is technically just an app in the eyes of the phone, and the fact that Nova is better coded to be more efficient on memory/cpu/graphics I don't understand anyone's confusion on why using the launcher, or going back home from another app you would see speed increases/less lag. Not only is it much quicker, but it redraws a lot less, and I find that other apps run better with Nova running in the background as opposed to rosie.

My front camera, the one on the screen side, doesn't work in either camera or camcorder mode. Has anyone else noticed this? When I try to choose this camera, it just freezes and then goes back to the home screen.

Menu buttons
Hi
After the Verizon ICS upgrade, the lower menu buttons (home, menu, back and search) don't always light up. They seem to function ok but they are impossible to read in the dark. It seems to only happen now and then. I have not seen a pattern. Phone is not rooted. I did not notice this bad behaviour until after the ICS upgrade. It may just be a hardware issue on a 2.5 year old phone.
Anyone else notice this after ICS?
Thanks
John
No lighting problems but little things like that have me using a replacement launcher, messaging app, and locker.

My two bits: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Your girlfriend has been happy this long on the FroYo stock unrooted phone? Why risk ruining that? No one wants an unhappy girlfiend (sic). If you're not going to root it, then there's no way to go back if you decide the upgrade is not so much "up". The exception may be if she's already planning on upgrading to a new phone: go ahead and go to ICS and see how it is, then if she doesn't like it she can at least move to a new phone with an extra few days experience with ICS, (her new phone won't likely have FroYo... )
