Why does Google Talk keep notifying while I'm messaging on PC? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

This never was a problem for me for years but now, for some unknown reason, it is. I am signed into Google Talk on both my Evo LTE and my laptop. I will converse with someone on the laptop and normally whenever I start replying the phone shuts up for the duration of the conversation unless there is a long break w/o messages. It will notify me again and I'm fine with this. I just had a conversation on my laptop and this phone sounded the notification and vibrated EACH time I received another message even though I was actively sending replies via the laptop. This is frustrating. How can I solve this?

I'm doing this same thing right now. I do not get the extra notifications. Probably just a fluke. Sign out and back in...open the chat on the phone so it's active....reboot....try any/all of the above.
I do the same thing everyday, and no extra notifications.

My problem doesn't appear to end there. If I'm on a Talk conversation on my phone it still sounds the notification for EVERY received message even though the conversation window is still open. This is quite annoying.

Check ur settings for g chat on the pc, there might be something there

Thanks for the advice but I already checked all the settings both from a PC as well as the phone. Nothing affected this. The weird part is it appears to have fixed itself today for some unknown reason. Just as mysteriously as it arrived... it left. Hopefully it stays gone.

I have noticed the same glitch. My only take is that the LTE keeps us signed in to gChat whereas the Evo and other Android phones allowed you to turn gChat on the phone off.

Have you had this problem while using an Airave? I'm just curious because I have one that Sprint provided for free with no monthly charge because I am also in a bad reception area. I was ready to change providers before I got the Airave and since then I have been nothing but happy with the connectivity. I get 5 bars for my phone signal and excellent 3G although I don't need that due to my 20MB wifi.
I have never had a problem with failed texting, voice mail or multiple messages sent or received.

Yes with the airvana. They have replaced it three times. My evo did the same thing as well. (They also tried replacing that) How often do you text? I think it has something to do with sending multiple messages. When i unplug it all my texts send and receive fine...
Calls are fine though.

Airave Connectivity

I am unable to connect my eVOLTe to my Airave access point. All the other phones in the house (two Pixis, a Pre, an OG EVO, and a Hero) are able to connect flawlessly and go from one bar to full in the process. However, my new eVOLTe flickers on one bar, occasionally dropping to VZW roaming. This is the case even if none of the other phones are present in the house, and I have never enabled any of the restricted phone settings on the Airave.
I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar issues, and if so, if they had found a solution.

Don't know if this will work because I'm away from home and can't confirm. In the mobile network settings is a setting to turn lte off, cdma only mode. My guess is the cdma/lte mode is what's causing the issue.

I had an issue like this when I first got my EVO LTE a few days ago. At first I couldn't connect and then it would let me make phone calls but all text messages would appear as if they failed and even if I retried sending 20 times they would fail. I personally think it was my old phone (OG EVO 4G) causing a problem as it was still on and my EVO LTE would never connect to my Airave! I played with it for over an hour trying to get it to work but then I thought of turning my old phone off and then resetting/unplugging the Airave and when it came back online my new EVO LTE connected without issue and I haven't had a problem since! See if that works for you?

If your phone is not yet activated, DO NOT activate it with an airrave present. For some reason, the OTA activation doesn't work right unless you're connected to a real tower.
FWIW, also try changing your Roaming to "Sprint Only", and also, update your PRL.
Mine finally connected when I did that as well as changing from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only.
turned off inactive phone and it texts again

Busy signal type noise after making a call.

Sometimes as I'm making a call and am disconnected due to poor service or hanging up too quickly, my phone will get almost a busy signal. It won't stop until I've rebooted the phone. I'm rooted on viperrom but it happened even when I was 100% stock. Any ideas on what's causing it or a possible fix? Thanks!!

I can confirm that my wife's phone has been doing this too, and hers is not rooted. I suspect it's a software issue, but the fact that it doesn't stop, when you shut down the phone, makes me wonder if it's deeper. I'm trying to decide what to do, because I was about to cancel the insurance, but not if i need it to replace a defective phone :/

This happens to me more than twice a day. Almost all calls placed from my house give me this tone. I'm past my 14 days, so I cannot return it for the sgs3. I honestly do not want to return the phone, but this is just ridiculous. Random 3g dropouts, an annoying tone on 50% of calls, and my phone will become unusually sluggish throughout the day. All of these problems are fixed with a reboot. It happens on stock and vipermod. I'm not sure about aokp or cm9. I cannot place a call with either of them. Anyway, I cannot believe a fix has not been released by htc/sprint. The xda community already has a fix for wallet. Sprint and HTC need to do something. My next purchase will be a nexus phone, after 5 HTC devices.
Wiretap
Poorly implemented federal wiretap. Go about your business as usual.
I got my phone on release date and never once had that happen until tonight. I noticed my signal was jumping in and out of roaming and everytime I tried to make a call, roaming or not, it did the busy signal thing. I called Sprint and they were looking into an issue with the tower I pull from. The same tower has gone down 4 times in the past 8 months, and everytime it goes down it is 3-4 days without service for us, it is getting really annoying.
Definitely not an HTC or evo specific issue. Had this happen to me a few times and the wife's s3 and a viper in the last few days
Turn off the roam guards. I had this same problem when I was on vacation. Once the roam guards are off you will be able to connect and not get that annoying busy signal.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I made a thread on this not knowing this one was existing.... I believe I pinpointed it only happens when and if u place the call your signal bars drop to none at that exact moment it does something within the modem and cause this tone of death I call it....
Nothing fixes it but a reboot.
HTC BETTER REALIZE THEY ARE PISSIN PEOPLE OFF, THEY BETTER FIX THE SIGNAL Issue before people return this thing..other than that love the phone..
I truly believe half of it has to do with slow network and weak towers Sprint is just trying to catch up after all these years

My phone is doing this with the roam guard off, and when I have 6/6 or 5/6 bars. Service at my house is very spotty, and 5 out of 7 calls will fail. In areas that I have good service about 50% of calls fail. I never had this problem with my EVO 3d, and my father has never had this issue with his EVO 4g. I'm ready to take this phone back. It's ridiculously annoying, and the only way to fix the issue is to reboot the phone. Also, I'm frequently not receiving calls in areas where I should be getting "good" service. This is obviously an issue with both HTC and Sprint.
On top of this issue, I keep nit getting phone calls. My wife calls me twice everytime she calls and the first one almost never rings. Who knows how many calls I don't receive in a day.

Same here. I've had a few clients tell me they've been trying to get a hold of me, which is a bad thing. Anyway, I contacted Sprint, and the rep told me to take it to a corporate store to swap phones -- something I don't really want to do. She informed me that this issue is not widespread, however, I've been reading about the issue on a few different forums.
Edit: for some strange reason I haven't had this problem in a day or two. Hopefully it stays this way.

Why all the complaints ? This is a lot to do with user error

I'm stunned at the constant complaints... I believe half of.. everyones issues are due to screwin around and f"n up their phones ,not reading stickies ,,rules , not.knowing...compatibility
The other half is probably defective devices NOT all of us have issues I've had none

I really haven't tinkered with much of anything on my phone and I find the most recent OTA to be MUCH MUCH buggier than the previous version. Before the update I never had Sense crash or any other programs crash. Now they happen once or twice a week (sometimes several in a day). Add that to the fact that I am not S-OFF and I have a loathing hatred for this most recent update.

Sorry, but I'm not convinced that my text, roaming and dropped call issues are solely due to the upgrade. You guys can keep screaming that all you want. And I'm not saying that there aren't instances where that's the case. My wife has a shift and isn't experiencing these issues. I've also read about other evo owners with two phones or other sprint phones in their household -- none of which are displaying the same problems.
Again, I'm not saying the network upgrade isn't causing any issues, but it's a bit aggravating to see people post that in every thread containing an issue that can even remotely be attributed to the upgrade like it's gospel.

For those not aware...the EVO LTe is set up out of the box to work on LTE and Enhanced CDMA (for lack of better term/knowledge) Also know as Network Vision, or the upgrades.
In cases where an older phone connects and the EVO LTE does, I have confirmed the EVO LTE is connecting to a network type called ehrpd. This network is not yet active in most cities. The older device confirmed to be connected to CDMA and receiving normal 3g.
This is the reasoning behind changing the network mode to cdma only, as many of us have seen that it forces the phone on to CDMA and not ehrpd.
I hhonestly have no idea what I am doing, but this is what I have found in my hours of testing side by side with older devices. From what I can tell every LTE device Sprint carries has this issue, but the other devices appear to lack the ability to switch.
There are also other issues that can contribute to texts and data.
This theory also works in reverse. If I am in an LTE area and on cdma only data and texts are wonky and I have to switch back.
Moral of the story...handoff could be seriously jacked up. I remember Verizon and ATT having similar issues during buildout. You would think someone had figured it out by now.

A lot of the data/sms/call signal issues can be attributed to the current state of network upgrades, though it's obviously impossible to say 100%. In my experience, the network-related things have worked fine from day 1 (July 19th). That said, I have noticed actual system bugs. For example there was a time when I was using Talk (I hardly ever SMS anymore, Talk is way better IMO) and the text in the app became just a jumbled mess of pixels. Took a reboot to fix but it was still weird. And a friend of mine who got his Evo LTE a couple of weeks before me, his phone just started spontaneously overheating all of a sudden yesterday. We suspect a rogue app getting stuck in a loop, but still that's not a good sign; it should have been caught by the OS and at least thrown up a message to kill the offending application. Again, a reboot fixed it but I'm not really keen on that being an actual solution as opposed to a temporary workaround.

Are you receiving a confirmation that your texts are being sent? I have noticed that when I am sending texts while at the office, where I have a very low cell signal, that sometimes my texts are not sent at all. I use Handcent SMS and sometimes after I "send" a message, the wheel will spin but the message will never officially go through (I have come across messages that I thought I sent the previous day). This usually occurs when I have a very low or no cell signal. Generally, when I "edit" the message and re-send it the text goes through. I am also running Viper4G.

I get the same msg when I text another friend but he gets my texts.
Where are you located? I'm in the SF bay area and it seems like sprint is always mucking about with the network here one way or another, be it wimax deployment or now probably LTE testing. My friend who is on a Samsung Epic4g also has the same problems as i do, but when he went to vegas and hawaii none of those issues popped up.
I'm on Viper4g 1.0 also and i've had the problems of outgoing texts not going at all or being delayed by a considerable amount of time. I had this behavior on charmeleon and the old Viper also so i don't think its an issue with the rom. It is either the phone itself or the network, and i'm more inclined to think its the network because the issues were not present when i went down to LA.
I'm in santa cruz county. The texts seem to go out fine since I don't get any error messages he just doesn't receive them.

It could be the device but not as a bug or hardware failure. In my area we had towers that were experiencing partial failure (cs rep's words not mine, I dont believe in partial anything. If it fails it fails) with the towers and they were under repair. When I visited my father which is the area directly affected he complained that his phone was defective and no one could hear him speaking. Sprint replaced the phone twice and same issue on those as well. His data worked albeit slowly and anytime I attempted to access data my lte would jump to roaming and not accept calls. A friend of his also in the same area had the exact same issue with his epic touch but he noticed that when he left the area it would work. it took 3 months for those 2 towers to come back completely. Naturally I assumed it was an upgrade (vision network and or lte) but sadly no
