64 GB microSD Card compatible? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will all the American SIII's be able to support a 64 GB microSD card? I brought up the idea of using said card with a 16 GB SIII from AT&T and someone at the Mac Rumors forum said it was not compatible.

I was using a 64GB card in my s2. Moved it to the S3 and it works fine. So long as you format the card in your phone you should be ok

Where are you guys finding the best deals for the SanDisk 64GB MicroSDXC Class 10 memory card?
I've been following Amazon and Best Buy for a while now... Best Buy's prices fluctuate a lot, I check it on a daily basis... It's at 150 right now, but it was at 50 for a day or two, and 70 for a day or two.
Amazon's are at around 68 after shipping.
Both are great deals for such a beast of a memory card (30MB/s read speed and 10(?)MB/s write speed), but I'm wondering if you all found anything better. Please PM me if you wish!

You don't need to format anything, don't worry about it.
I was using mine with my Desire and moved it to this no problem.

Nonononoooooo do not buy SD-Cards from ebay. You can easily stumble upon a fake.

Storage expansion:Slot Type:microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC up to 64 gb

It should work. AFAIK, 64gb will even work with older phones like the s2. I think the difference with the s3 is that you can format the microsd card to use exFAT instead, which should be better than fat32 (ex: no more 4gb file limits)

I'll probably just make sure via the forum if I decide to get the SIII. I won't get it if I can't add a 64 GB card. AT&T will have it in 2 weeks.

Lexar 32gb class 10 micro sd card on sale for $65.

The card is usually around $90 but I saw it today and it was $65 but I've been hearing and reading the reviews that class 10 haven't been working on android and that the card will fail and you have to reformat thus loosing all your data. But try it out for yourself seems like a good deal.
http://www.amazon.com/Lexar-MicroSD...610M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315997847&sr=8-1
I've been using class 10 cards on my Android phones since December of last year. No problems here. This isn't a bad deal really. I think I'll wait for them to drop a little more before I jump on the 32gb ship unless I fill my 16gb up.
I agree with housry, good deal, but not a great deal. I have 32GB SanDisk already, but I'm always checking out deals because I'll want/need a 32GB card for my tablet that I plan to buy very soon. My SanDisk is only a Class 2, but speeds are much higher as SanDisk always under-rates their cards. My speeds are similar to other brands Class 6-8 cards. What I was gonna say before all that rambling was that i paid less than $60 shipped(new and direct from SanDisk) for mine, great deal in my opinion for SanDisk brand.
Also, there is another thread in this sub- forum about microSD cards, their ratings, speeds, and the owners opinion of them. You should check it out to see everyone's results and opinions.

Done.
PNY class 10 16GB here.. bought it at best buy for 45 bucks!
PNY is another brand (besides sandisk) that you can never go wrong with, at least in my experience. Every DSLR camera i have ever owned has had a PNY card in it, never any problems. I didn't have to format mine either, just popped it in and it has been working flawlessly.
it performs like a class 10 as well, somebody mentioned sandisk underrates their cards, they do. and PNY, in my own experience, rates them exactly what they should be.
good find. not a bad deal, i'm sure you could find a 32 gig sandisk for less than that if you look around carefully

will that even work with the 3d (or anything on the market right now?) its not simply a microsd card, its microsdxc which is a different format and requires the proper reader
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think their is a device out that will support 64gb card.I believe the evo 3d will only support 32gb card. Anyhow I would wait just to much money for those cards. They will come down in price.
Max capacity is 32 gig. Anything more is out of spec.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card
There have already been people who bought them and they work in the 3D as long as you format the card with stock ROM.
boom!! from my shooter
can someone who has used one show a pic working, would be great to know. my 20gb of music really fills my 32gb up quickly.

Wrong. That was the case with SDHC. But SDXC is the new version that supports greater than 32GB, and as others mentioned it has been confirmed to be working with a number of Android devices, including the EVO 3D (do a search, as there's a forum member here who bought a 64GB microSDXC card and it works fine).
so whats the limit then?
If 32gb is not the limit, is 64gb definitely the max? I'm asking cause there are 128gb sdxc cards on sale for about $200, will those work? FYI, I checked on amazon/eBay and $200 for a 64gb seems like a ripoff, there's one on sale for $79

Just to confirm information that these are working, since I'm not sure everyone was certain on the prior page in the thread:

Make sure it's MICRO sdxc. I saw SDXC's for sale, but if you go to details and look at the physical size of it, it's not a micro card. I don't think there's a 128 microSDXC yet.

No, 64 GB is not "definitely" the limit. From what I can tell from the spec descriptions I've been able to find, there's no limit on the maximum capacity of card that the phone can handle beyond whatever can be made within the SDXC spec. As it's typically been compliance with the tech spec that limits the card capacity (old devices that couldn't handle beyond 4 GB cards were due to their inability to handle the SDHC spec).
The key here is to understand that we're dealing with microSDXC, and not the full (physical) size SDXC cards.

I think the the recovery process does restore something to an SD card. I've never seen a single difference in ext SD card content that was non-rom related following a restore. So the likelihood of it working (yes:no) would probably be 70:30.

No you can't. If you want to replace your current memory card with this larger one, you have to use a computer to backup the files on the current SD card first and then transfer them to the new card. I don't think a nandroid will do that. That's what I did when I replaced my 8gb card with 32gb.
I have a 16gb class 4 card now and looking to get a 32gb class 10. I have been looking around seen prices from $15 to over $80 for a card, what is the best bang for the buck in terms of its price? Make sure it is FAT32 format. You can check by sticking it into your computer's SD slot (with the SD adapter). Check in your explorer or finder.
Phones can only see FAT32 or FAT16 format. If it is NTFS then it must be formatted to FAT32 (btw, not the Win7 version exFAT. This doesn't work either)
Interesting.. I was told by my AT&T representative that 64gb would not work on this phone. Maybe it was because they had a 32gb in the store for like $125! Ridiculous price! I told him I bought a 64gb for less than $60 and he knew that they were gouging the prices of these things.
So Fat32 format and I will see the full 64gb? Will give it a try, thanks!!
