[CLOSED] No HDMI out, and no back facing camera - Nexus Q General

I was excited about this tablet, but if it doesn't have HDMI out or a rear facing camera, I'm not buying it.
I probably wouldn't use the HDMI out often, but the back facing camera, would be used.

Wrong forum, why need a rear facing camera? It's stupid for a tablet, and yes it does have HDMI.
Move thread mods

Those things do not matter. Lack of SD Card slot does.

the Nexus Q is not a tablet... its a spherical android based computer with no screen or camera. Stupid thread.

INCORRECT. I have one in front of me (got one at the Google IO 2012 conference). It has a micro-HDMI port on the back and comes with an adapter.
Cheers!

The production models do no come with HDMI nor do they support MHL. So no tv out on this guy. Still a nice device for the money. I confirmed the lack of MHL with Tim Stevens( Editor-in-chief at Engadget) on twitter.

nexus q has a micro hdmi output port.
you're talking about the nexus7 tablet, wrong forum

This thread is 7 kinds of fail.

[Q] Any hardware hacks for front-facing camera?

Just noticed that the Galaxy S is one phone that found a hack for a front facing camera. Of course it's a different device and everything, but I was wondering if there have been any tech-savvy members here to have looked into the possibility of a front facing camera for the HD2.

The HD2 doesn't have a front facing camera. How can software change that?
what are those two little circle lenses at the top of the phone... on the left of the ear / listening grid?
proximity sensor and light sensor

hardware hacks Means modding equipment physically NOT via software.
With the huge screen and as thin as the HD2 is, I doubt you could find room for a front cam. From a software perspective, it wouldn't be a huge leap. But hardware-wise, it's like trying to jump the grand canyon on a ten speed

[Q] Is there an external antenna port near the battery (see picture) on our Vibrants?

I know the captivate has an external antenna port. I see a rubber grommet near where the antenna terminal should be. Has anyone actually taken the grommet off, and tried the port?

Yes indeed that is the external port.
I tried it when I first got my vibrant and needed a better signal for tethering. I now use a repeater but it did work fine.

yup if you really needed to use I guess you could but more a hassle than anything
what is it for? better signal?

Strange thing. On my friend's i9000 there is no such grommet. just a bare external antenna connector.
How do you use that port?
yea lol how do u use it, any pics too? I'm intruiged. Never knew those were antenna ports but they do look like it if you remove the gromet! ha learn something new.

You can get the correct connector off ebay,or wilson electronics I believe. It was only about 5 bucks then connect it to a portable cell ant. Or do like I did and buy a yagi ant and mount it outside.
I live in a rural area and I went from 1 bar to full signal inside which made my tethering much more robust.
Just gently pop off the rubber piece and you will see the port.

Xperia S as tablet

Hello.
I was thinking of buying a tablet, but since I bought the xperia s phone, I am thinking if it is possible to use the hdmi out of the phone to a larger, portable monitor and use it as a tablet.
Do you know where i could get a lightweight monitor with capabilities of hdmi in so I can hack it into a diy "tablet".
I am considering to use the display only for output i.e no touch screen, although that would be good.
So basically you're looking for a battery powered TV with HDMI input ? something like this
Well yes,but in not that price range
I am thinking of composing one with various components from tablets, but I don't know how a tablet or laptop monitor can be connected to an hdmi adaptor and work without the use of a motherboard or a graphics card.
I don't see the point of a larger display just to connect to your phone considering that it is possible to get a 9.7" IPS screen dual core android tablet for under US$250.. Check pandawill. Look for the Amlogic -MX chipset or the rockchip RK30XX series.
Heck, they even offer ICS to boot.
I dont think you will be able to find exactly what you are looking for, I but I have an idea for you to consider. The Morotola Atrix has a LapDock accessory. This is basically an 11" screen, a usb keyboard / mouse and a huge battery all rolled into one. Someone on the forum has taken the rear apart and it is basically just a micro USB and micro HDMI cable. He plugged his Xperia in and it just worked. Phone will not charge off the battery while the HDMI is enabled, but everything else is fine.
Now, these devices retail for about £300, but recently 2 retailers in the UK have been selling them for £42 and £48, probably because the Atrix is outdated now.
I very nearly took the plunge myself, but I already have a 14" laptop and an iPad

Something to consider.
BigPhil this is exactly what I was looking for.
Since I don't want to spent much money in buying a Windows tablet now, considering the windows 8 tablet release this year, the Morotola Atrix LapDock would do the job.
Do you have any links for the £42 and £48 UK shops?
Sure, but it looks like both offers have ended.

Worth checking that site periodically
Edit: I have just checked eBay and there are loads £40-£75 on there. Good a place as any to start, perhaps pick up a case at the same time.
Umm... this one ?

How well could you fit an S into the Lapdock? Any S users have one?(Pics pls).
At that price its well worth it.

Dust in my camera, how can I fix without replacing?

Well to put it short, I replaced the screen myself, and dust seems to have gotten into the back camera, I've tried blowing it, vacuuming it, tapping it but nothing has seemed to have solved the problem. Is there any other way to fix this without having to purchase another camera replacement, which is around $40?
Here's an image of it

Isnt the dust between the camera module and camera window(which is part of the phones rear housing.
Ive had a look at the spare camera I have here and there is a small gap between the chrome housing and the black circular thing that sits on the lens.......is the dust somewhere in there.
I thought the camera innards would be sealed, but maybe not.
Youd have to unstick the camera module and clean that and the inside of the phone housing,to see if that helps.
Can you post the link where you got the camera module for $40 from,as there people on here looking to get them.

Hi yeah, do you know how I would take the camera apart? There isn't a seal around the gap in between the actual camera lens.
The phone housing itself is clean, I've cleaned all of it and replaced the screen as well, but however pulling apart the phone has lead for the dust to actually get into the camera itself, and stick there, hitting it doesn't even take it out anymore.
A while back with the same problem I found a $40 camera on ebay, obviously they're all aftermarket, so if there's nothing wrong with the actual camera, there's no need to buy an aftermarket part, but I'm slightly picky with these types of things and I want to get it replaced or fixed.
Thanks for the response.
Some people have said they are $100+ but the only price I seen was about $60.......but the seller had no stock, and maybe never will.
I would try to flip off the chrome box cover thing and see whats under there.
You could buy my one,but donate the money to this site somehow.

Lens flare problem

The flare appears while taking photos of bright objects in the dark, like candles. It can ruin a photo. I've never seen a flare like this in any smartphone camera. Does anyone have the same problem?
An example:

The candle in the upper left corner should not be exhibiting this purple flare. Really annoying.

Well, that's charming. Apple simply told it's users to point the camera at a different angle.
Still, it was in 2012. I've done a brief comparison with my girlfriend's Galaxy Note 4 and seen no flare there.
I would greatly appreciate any LG V30 user's opinion on this topic. I would like to know if it's the same in every V30, or is my unit especially faulty.
I think i found the answer.
The camera seems to be very susceptible to IR light. LG is using an IR lamp to assist autofocus, so naturally the camera has to detect it easily.
It just so happens, that a candle flame is quite hot. Because of that, it emits extensive amounts of IR light. I was able to get the same effect during the day, but it is best seen using an IR remote.
Well, nothig can be done with that as it seems. Every other phone I've used wasn't that susceptible to IR light. It certainly is a novelty to me.
