[Q] How reboot into recovery and directly flash .zip file - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
do you know how i can directly reboot into recovery and flash a .zip file via script for terminal emulator?
I think you know the ROMManager, you can download updates there, it automatically reboots into recovery and flashes without asking the .zip file, how can i realize that via script for the terminal emulator? cuz i want to create a updater for my and my friends roms
Is there any way to realize that?
Thanks,
Glenn

So, first, GlenniBoy and I, we're working on a new project. Currently we're using CWM.

as u said the rom manager contains the feature u want to use on the terminal for the roms want to use.
check out the rom manager apk with the apk tool
u might find a hint in there (a script or something) because i guess something like that has to be there

Did it work?

We didn't know, I'll try it later, but already pressed Thanks

[Q] new to android (help)

hi im new to android phones
last week i got galaxy s2
now i found some great apps byt when i downloaded them i didnt found .apk app
instead i found few folders and files and i dont know how to instal them
should i root my galaxy?
Form where did you download them.. try using market app or download from apktop.com or android-market.co .. Also do you have System/app/ and META-INF folders in a zip file. If so you will have to install it in recovery by using install zip from sdcard option..

what app are you referring to?
if its a flash zip you need a custom recovery such as CWM or Amon Ra
there is no specific app ( i downloaded many app that was non an .apk)
yes its a flash zip
cmw comes after rooting?
thanks for your patience but im new to the world of android
So, flash cwm recovery and try to install from there.. if you flash cwm recovery you can even backup and restore your rom...
you need to root first before you can install a custom recovery.
usually system apps get install via flash zip. you sure the apk is not zipped up? sometimes you need to in zip to get the apk.
thank you all for your replies
the apps im talking about like app monster or other app that need a root
is there a safe way to root the galaxy s2 without changing the rom or the kernel
ie. i just want to be able to flash zip files ( cracked app)
and stay on my rom and kernel
and will i be able to receive apdates for the kies???
TO root s2 please visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Sometime there will be .apk file directly inside zip file (this is done to reduce size of app) you should not try to install them from recovery only install zip file from recovery having sytem and Meta-inf folder inside the zip file.
Yes you will be able to receive updates via kies unless you don't flash a custom kernel...
thank you all
Hi! I just got my first Android Phone.
The HTC Inspire.
I've been told I could speed up this phone but I'm also curious to know what else I could do with it?
I used to have an iPhone and I would just change the theme and stuff...
So, I suppose my question(s) is/are;
1. How can I speed up my phone?
2. What can I do with my phone?
3. Is there a site where I can browse custom themes for my phone?
4. how do I add custom ringtones/ringback
thanks for taking the time for reading this.

To speed up your phone try v6 supercharger. Search xda forum and you will get there ..
You can do a lot of things with your phone like rooting it to make changes to system as well a ls access hidden system files and also to install app like app monster, titanium backup that are very handy ..
Not only this you can even flash/install custom Rom/kernel that are much better and optimized than stock one provided by HTC..
For more details Google root your phone model and custom kernels for your phone model ..
To get themes and more info foe your phone try to find your phone sub forum in xda forum or just Google .. to set custom ringtones you can select set as ringtone on your music player it copy ogg file to /system/media/audio (for which you need to root and use root explorer or similar app) and then go to settings.and choose your copies file..

What is App Monster? "flash/install custom Rom/kernel" ??
I'll try and find my phone in the sub-fourms
App Monster is an application that lets you manage your installed applications. For example you can backup apps and batch restore them.

[Q] Anyone know how to un-install CWM?

I just installed TWRP 2.0, and I no longer need CWM.
Does anyone know how to uninstall CWM so I can make TWRP the default recovery?

You can remove the uImage.ClockworkMod from /boot
If you name TWRP recovery to be the same, then it will be treated like CWM (ie. choosing reboot to recovery will work from power menu)

How do you get to that? I couldn't find it from Es file explorer with root privileges ...
You get to it via WebOS,
Boot to webos,
open Internalz Pro, Get it if you do not have it
select boot directory from directory list
all uImage files near bottom of directory

[Help]Swap internal to external SD Card.

Hi guys, so i'm having some problems with my SD card, i can't make my phone use my SD card entirely, i mean first of all the I/O sucks on this internal memory and it's too little, i can't even install 2 games like MC4 and WWZ. I wouldn't have come here if had not choice, i followed lots of tutorials that bricked my soft and had to reflash stock, so if any of you know any idea, it would be much appreciated, also i want to say that my phone it's rooted. Thanks in advance.

0. Make sure you have full root access
1. Install a terminal emulator app from Play Store
2. Open it and run this command: su
3. Give the app SU access
4. Run this command: dump_image boot <path to your sdcard>/boot.img
5. Upload the img somewhere for me to download

Towelroot + supersu + foldermount

editing a rom zip before flashing it

hey guys hope u are doing fine , so lately there being this way to hide the system folder of a rom zip so u can't access the system/app or syste/priv-app so i really need to edit a rom like RN or lineageOS before flashing it , is there a way u can show me please ?
The /system folder is inside system.imgin the zip
Use 7zip to extract just that, mount the IMG with some kind of special program (windows doesn't recognise ext4 partitions) edit it, then put the IMG back in the same zip.
BTW, I came across a good tutorial on what you are trying to do some time ago. I don't remember if it was here, on XDA. Have you tried googling it?

Well, the way I see it, it's more work to modify the IMG than to use the recovery's file manager.
Also, an idea I had while typing the above, you can write a small script to automate the process. You can the run that script from the recovery's built-in shell.
I can help you with this.
