2 visible white dot on the bottom of the lcd screen - HTC Amaze 4G

-sigh- almost 4 weeks of ownership and already having an issue. I just noticed these 2 highly visible white dots (to the left) just above of the capacitive buttons on my lcd. Only visible on white background though but i call tmo and instructed me to get to a local store so they can have one of the reps to look at it before replacement (awesome). I'll take a pic of it later prior to visiting the store.

sorry for the image quality but here it is. I tried taking a few shots of and this happened to be the best shot. What do you guys think caused this?

i dont see it. use ms paint to circle them with red. i seriously dont see anything

I can see them. They look a bit like glares. I never seen this before. Hope you can get this replaced somehow.

ooooooohhhhhhhhhh i see this now. my friend has a large spot like this on his Evo 3d. comes from too much pressure being put there on the screen. at some point that part of the screen got pushed very hard.

Mine has the same issue! And this is one that I got via warranty exchange >_> There's no way in hell I'm paying another $10 for a warranty exchange, though.

yeah its those 2 highly visible glares or dot when you look really close to it.. i've taken it using my digital camera (which obviously takes crappy image btw) and although it may be hard to see by others on the monitor - it is really visible in person. I'm still a little confused as to how this developed.

it's been taken care of and the replacement device is on its way... thankfully it was still covered by warranty. Not sure why it wouldn't be since i just got the phone 4 weeks ago lol

which leads me to my next question.... In regards to warranty that is. Is it worth it to add a PHP (Premium Handset Protection) bundle? I mean, i remember when it used to be $5.99 (i believe) and i just noticed after ordering a replacement device - Tmo added that feature on my plan. Current cost is $7.99 which is still not bad but is it really worth it shelling out 8 bucks for something that can be prevented? I'm pretty anal when it comes to protecting my device (thanks to protective TPU case) and i hardly drop it by accident. However, "****" does happen to anyone when you least expect it. What do you guys think?

It can be worth it in case something happens like theft or out of warranty. But generally they offer you crap and try to say it's comparable.
Did they say you still have option for insurance? Generally unless you get it when the phone was new you can't add it on later

That's what i'm thinking but no, the rep never said anything or made any suggestions as far as adding it on my plan. I check my account frequently and that was the only time i discovered that it was added the day the replacement transaction was made. However, she did mention that even though my device was still covered by warranty, i was charged with $20 for device exchange since i didn't have the PHP feature added to my plan versus $5 bucks if i had it. -shrugs- eh its whatever. Atleast i know i'll have a brand spanking new device in a couple of days and HOPEFULLY.. yes.. hopefully... the annoying screen bleed on the bottom (normal build issue) with the device won't have it. lol

i just started a 2 year with tmobile and got the amaze for free. im wondering if this was a bad idea. i dont like the one phone because it lacks a dedicated camera button and some other stuff I dont like about it (its too thin actually). worst case I cancel for 200 and use this phone on straight talk until a better phone comes out I can start a new 2 year with.

that's a good point too... I too recently just switched from Individual plan to family plan (even though I'm the only one who's truly going to be using both devices) because i wanted this device (amaze) ever since its debut. Not a fan of One series either because of.. well.. a few things that i've come to expect on a high end device which lacks of... availability to expand storage, option to pull battery, dedicated cam shutter. To stay on point - isn't there a policy or something that after you cancelled your service there's a 1-3 month waiting period again before you can sign up???.. -shrugs-

How many times would you allow a single customer to return an Evo3d before you finally said:
"Get the F**k out of my store, and don't let the door hit you in the ass?"
Because after listening to all these people complain, and talk about being on their 6th or 7th phone, I just gotta ask:

+10. I would HATE to deal with EVO3D customers, because, for every one I was assigned to help, there would be a much higher probability that I would be losing my job that day.

I'd be okay with one phone return, maybe two (if both were legitimate reasons), but if you come in a 3rd time for the same phone then I'd probably hand you to another employee. If it's giving you that many problems, then you probably shouldn't be using an Android phone to begin with.
I worked at Best Buy and I never cared tbqh. My manager also never cared. Said it was the manufacturer's fault for having issues in the first place and it's better to just do the exchange so the customer will be happy.
I remember one guy got his EVO 4G replaced 6 times. I did the exchange for him each time, I didn't care as long as they were in their 30 days.
I think I would have to ask the person "Dude, you are on your >3rd phone. If you have so many problems, why do you keep buying it?"
I mean honestly, if you are so unlucky as to get 6-7 "defective" phones in a row, perhaps it is a sign from God you are not meant to have this phone. Get your money back and move the hell on. But before you move on, come on to XDA to ***** about it...then move on.
Honestly, I would never have more than 2 bad phones. First one...yeah, I can see it and I would exchange it. Second phone is bad...screw it, I would get my money back and wait for something else I like.
I've only returned my phone once. Only because it came shipped with a crack in the screen. Not cool. Stupid former employer. >_> (that would be UPS)

Major Light Leakage - Same as above
Other Major Issues - Crooked LCD, No Power, etc. - Same as above
Now on to the bull**** issues -
Very Minor Light Leakage - No exchange... Return if you wish or contact HTC
Dust - Unless the screen is totally blocked off.. Same as above
Screen not as big as 4g evo - Same as above
Battery die to fast - Its a dual core phone .. duhhh
My mom said its too expensive - Get the **** out the store
4G does not work everywhere - So use 3g
3D picture does not come out of the phone - Man **** this **** I quit after I slap u.

So, you are all complaining about having something to do at work.....
It's called job security my friends.
The phone does appear to have some quality control issues such as dead pixels, screen crooked enough that it interferes with the blackout, and maybe a loose button here and there, BUT...
Unfortunately I've seen people returning the phone for what I believe are software issues that will be fixed with (hopefully the next) OTA. Things like the camera freezing, green tint in some camera shots, wifi signal dropping, and the phone going crazy when you plug something into the headphone jack are all software related and exchanging the phone will just land you another one with the same problems. In fact, some problems are intermittent so you may think the new one is fine and then somehow "broke" later. Even a weak radio signal and yellow screen could be software.
You can't expect the average consumer to know whether or not a problem is hardware or software though. To them, they were sold a product that simply doesn't work properly. So they take it back. They want it, but they want it to work, so they exchange it. That's not really a consumer issue: it's an issue for HTC. I'm not making light of software issues either, because those are interpreted as defects just like hardware problems. This is really an issue with HTC. IMHO, they released a product that was clearly not quite ready for prime time.
Mike
im a former radioshack employee and i gotta admit... these pplz come with the weirdest problems ever and the craziest stories to get them phones exchanged, mysefl im on my 3rd evo3d, my first one lost 4g completely, second one lost screen sensitivity and it was pressing letters by itself so im in my third one so far is good, so if they are within the 30 days i will exchange it as long as they have a real problem with it, one day i had a guy coming with the phone wanting an exchanged the phone was all scratched up and when we told him we cant cause of the scratches he said it wasnt his fault, that it was raining and the water scratched his phone lmaoooo ... see what i say lolz
I want whatever I spend my hard earned money on to work as expected to. Why should people settle for mediocre build design or software ? I don't care if I have to exchange an item 10 times, if I am paying for it and I'm within a return grace period, you bet I'm going to make sure I'm satisfied with my item.

Not another teen movie.. I mean, complaint thread.

I'm glad to see how much progress has been made on the after market software front. Really.
But I want to get a 3vo I'm content with before I void my warranty.
I went to the store today to do my second exchange. The first one went through smoothly but the employees in the store today were being hardasses.
This replacement 3vo has somewhat severe light leakage occurring in the bottom bezel. The capacitive menu button is discolored. And the screen is even more crooked than my last 3vo.
I still took it in stride until I realized the tilt of the screen was causing issues with the digitizer.
I consider all these issues to be manufacturer's defects. The manager I spoke with today says he recognizes them as design features of the phone.
I drove 90minutes there and back to the nearest Sprint repair center only to be told off by an asshole.
I'll have to try somewhere else on Monday.
Just getting this off my chest, please excuse my ranting.

I just have to ask. Okay, so you go to the store to exchange the phone. They exchange it, regardless of being hard-asses or not. Why did you even leave the store without checking it from top to bottom, inside and out? I know they powered it up because they have to do that to activate it on your line. And even IF the battery in the new one was dead, why didn't you say "hey, can I use the old battery long enough to test this thing out since I've had problems?"
Sorry for my rant, but it is getting so tiring to come here to read about development and support and it is just thread after thread of people pissing and moaning about problems with the hardware. People pissing and moaning about exchanging their phone 3, 5, and even 7 or more times. I mean really? WTF is wrong with people that you actually would continue to try and get a phone after supposedly getting 7 defective ones in a row?
Then, to make matters worse, you get people on here *****ing about the people constantly *****ing about the problems they have...these are the worst.
This site is called "XDA Developers" - not "XDA Complainers"
Well. I did have them turn it on.
I had the last one exchanged for a dead pixel, that's the deal breaker for me.
I don't expect a perfect phone, just one I'm happy enough with.
I'm pretty free going. I didn't expect the digitizer issues with this one, that's a deal breaker.

^^^^^agree. If you were nieve enough to leave the store without checking the phone for problems, then that's your fault.
On the other hand, they are manufacturers defects. Try calling CSL and telling them about it. When I had a problem with my 3D, after having problems with my local Sprint store, they emailed my a work order for me to take my phone into the Sprint store. I printed it out, took it, and my phone into the store, and they fixed it.
But I cannot believe you left the store without checking the phone...

But again, why didn't YOU test it? You've been on these forums. You've seen all the tears being shed pretty much daily. Why would you ever leave the store without testing it. IF I had a problem with my phone, I would have said very simply to the Sprint person, "I'm not leaving the store until we find one phone without any defects."
But...then again...I've never had a defective phone yet...so I've never had to test this theory out in real life.
After i had mine replaced due to front facing camera failure i tested it to no end before i left. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. This is your second evo? Shame on you.

Got IT!!!!!

So I got the ruby today...just a little feedback.
I upgraded from the Glacier, and I was running the darkside 1.5 ROM with sense 3.5. And to be honest, I liked the Glacier better. The Amaze is just like an over grown Glacier and is a bit laggy. They changed the charge port, and at the bottom of the screen where the touch buttons are, it glows white on the screen, say like inside of settings where the backscreen is black. I'll Give more info with the more I use it. So far wish I would of kept the Glacier. Nice Camera and screen though, besides the 'white' issue.
You really might have a defective unit then because in the week I've been using mine I haven't caught even a moment of lag. This is by far the quickest and snappiest phone I've ever used.

Well pretty much any brand new phone with a dual core 1.5 ghz processor should not be lagging at all. Definitely not more than something as outdated as the mt4g.

Exact same with mine. I'm so disappointed. I was looking so forward to this phone. I took the first one back thinking it was a fluke. Second one was the same. Even the display unit had it. The girl who was helping me thought I was crazy until I showed her by blocking the light with my hand. On any black screen when the buttons are lit, it bleeds up into the main screen. I went through three of them, and then gave up, and just got my money back. I want this phone, but I hope HTC fixes that first.
I have the lights at the bottom of the screen issue also. Looks pretty crappy sometimes

I'm pretty suprised because mine is flawless. No screen issues, dust, lag or anything else like that and I'm coming from a sensation. This phone is everything I hoped it would be and I have no complaints. If anything I would expect kind to have more of the issues as it is a store demo model so probably one of the earliest manufactured.

A little late for you, TurboBoxer, but it does look like the light from the buttons at the bottom isn't well-blocked from the screen. Agreed. It's pretty noticeable, and while it doesn't bug me that much, it shouldn't be happening. My Nexus S has similar buttons/lighting at the bottom, with absolutely zero light bleed. It'd be nice if I could exchange this guy for one that doesn't bleed.

You'll pay 600 dollars for a phone off contract? Are you on pills? I paid just over that for my computer. I thought they made phones off contract that expensive so people don't try to buy them.
Not necessary everyone buys phone on contract, majority in US buys I know... some people have money to buy off contract prices, some like trying new phones so they sell their existing phone, add some money and buy the new one off contract. Also there are lots of countries where phones are not sold subsidized.

I've done that a lot. Buy latest phone with upgrade (~200)....6 months later, sell on ebay for 375-400. Get newest phone off contract and pay difference (~200)...as long as you stay on top of the latest and greatest its not hard to essentially get each phone at upgrade pricing when you factor in the sale of the previous phone.
I went from 9800 bold > HD2 > aria> captivate > streak 5 > atrix > amaze and have never paid more than 100 out of pocket for the next phone

at least for me, i always have tried to sell it just as the newest one i want comes out. Its typically within 6-8 months of the release of the original device. Sometimes i'll just peruse ebay and see the prices, and then when i notice they start to go down i'll see what phones are out at that time so i get out of my current device before taking too great of a hit.
for example, the girl and I just sold her droid 2 for 200 bucks and my atrix for 280 on craigslist in one day, and since our contracts were up we went to tmobile and got these for little out of pocket since it was a new contract
I paid for mine cash, and to be honest....worst investment ever. Im not happy with the battery life, the screen issue, speaker is mediocre, my old hd2 was alot better than this phone. Its not about outdated, its about a good sturdy practical device.

Please help me fix my camera! Black patch..

Hi All,
I just bought the Photon 4G day before night and am loving it
But I realized that camera is showing a black patch on the screen... Its there in the file even when i take snaps as well as record videos Its set there permanently (same spot). Its somewhat translucent.
Please can anyone help me out fixing it cause its disappointing me somewhat
I have attached few images to let you guys know how it looks..
Oh and I think I dont need to point out the location of this ****. Its at the same spot in all the three images. In the second pic below the androids right leg...
P.S. Tried resetting the phone to factory setting, tried removing the battery.. No warranty for the phone. Bought it from Ebay India. Its the USA Sprint phone..

I did try cleaning it. The glass is absolutely flawless. So the main sensor / chip is defective i guess. I came across people facing, if not the same, but similar issues with their Android phones. I am not sure.
I hope I see someone who could manage to fix it or I'm totally out of luck. Have to live with that ass forever lol. Hope it doesnt expand any more!!!
you already stated you cleaned it ,so I will not beat that dead horse. If I were a betting man (I'm not really) I would say you have one of two issues.
1. (and I hope its not this) that phone was dropped and something broke or cracked internally.
2. Someone took it apart and lint or dust got between the lenses. Good Luck.
Althought #1 is possible, everyone I know with high end Smartphone treats them like 2 month old babies!

I dont think it has fallen... Its absolutely without any scratches or anything anywhere.. ANd the mark looks like a tiny butterfly! lol which is kinda transparent. I tried manually makin some marks on the camera lens with a blue marker pen, but that doesnt look the same at all. it just brings a blue hue (ink color) on the image. You cant see it as a mark (spot like in this case)..
And I'd like to mention one more thing. This thing, when I zoom it to the next level, it moves to the left and when I zoom it even more, it gets off the screen! (outside)Funny!
And about the dust thing, I really doubt..
Looks like dust on the sensor cant do ne thing unless u dismantle the whole camera module.

Strange I must say. We have Digital Zoom, not Optical. Is your phone Rooted with stock ROM?
Have you tried shaking it to see if the spot will move ??

I agree with farookh. If this were an SLR, I would say dust on the sensor and give you pointers on how to clean it. Since the sensor is internal here, you probably need to return it and get a new one versus voiding any warranty by trying it yourself.

Read his original post last sentence. No warranty, he got it from E-Bay in India.
OK. Let me tell a trick as former sprint store manager. I just used this to replace my epic so I know it still works.
If you have to phone active on your account call technical support about the phone. Tell them you are calling because a Rep at the store instructed you to call and do a "advanced exchange" on your device. Tell tech support that the store couldn't fix it and didn't have a replacement phone for you. Say they wouldn't exchange for new device and gave u a hard time. It is important to sound like your very unhappy. If they mention insurance, say your phone didn't qualify because the phone suffered no damage, it is a manufacturer defect as told to you by the repair Rep.
They may attempt to ask you what store u went to. Cut them off and say sir, I am not dealing with store again. U going in circles and feel everyone is spinning u and don't want to replace phone.
They will process advanced exchange and you swap phones through mail. They will send new one and you ship back old one.

If its dust and we only have digital zoom, shouldn't the spot still remain even after zooming? why does it move outwards
And I noticed 1 more thing yesterday... When I focus the camera (specifically that point!!) towards the sun, the spot just dissolves in the light and is not visible... Same is the case when I point it towards some very bright source.

Its stock ROM. I tried using a couple of camera apps, but still no luck. The spot appears on all. Do these apps use the same module used by the Default camera App? If yes, is there a way to reinstall the module.

Motorola India told me that they cant help me as this phone hasnt released here. They have no hardware and software support. They want me to co-ordinate with Motorola USA.
And when I lookup my phone's IMEI on motorola, I see that it is under warranty till Oct 2012...
Do you think I can get a replacement being here in India. I have the box, the manual and the handset.
I would snail mail moto and get a RMA or something in writing.

AT&T picky about warranty exchanges?

Hey guys,
I've had this one since release and had to do sober the phone warranty exchange due to degrading battery
I have a skid mark on thebottom right coroner. Yes, it's on top of the corner just smoothed it out or rounded it a bit. I was wondering if this will get a $690 fee imposed.
It's also S-Off.
Against company policy, instead of giving me silver like my current phone she asked which one I wanted and i said black.
Would they impose a fee for this, if so can I get it overturned?
I was thinking I would RUU it and I'd be fine.
Anyone who's been thorough this or heard of it let me know. Thanks.

Not sure about the skid mark on the bottom corner but my original black one had issues with freezing randomly so when I called for an exchange they had none in stock so they shipped me a silver one. This was over 3 months ago and they haven't charged me anything even though the color change is against company policy but as long as they initiate it you shouldn't have an issue. However not sure what they will say about the skid mark and say that is physical damage.
I replaced mine for a bad speaker. They asked if any cosmetic damage, mine had none at the time except a small scratch on the power button/IR window. I know they are inspected when returned, but have no idea how picky they will be or how good that "inspection" really is. Probably depends on the inspector you get that day. :fingers-crossed:
Question: Mine is rooted, running a leaked ATT ROM and when you boot it, the red warning pops up from HTC. Would that be an issue for a warranty replacement? How would I rectify that?
Relock the bootloader and flash it with an RUU and you'll be fine.
Is there a guide anywhere for doing so?
fastboot oem lock, run RUU from HTC, done. A lot of people get it wrong, you are not "flashing' a RUU, the RUU is a "Rom Update Utility" stand alone package.
Just an FYI. If your doing a warranty exchange and they transfer to the warranty dept. They will make you download an apk for you to install. This apk let's them look at your system. It first freaked me out cause I was on a full convert GPe. But they didn't say anything about it and went ahead with the exchange. Still a little bit unnerving when they say "please download the apk with the link I'm sending. This will allow me to take a look at your system except for videos or pictures"

Unfortunately, I don't. A factory reset was the last thing they make you do after they look at your system. But now know it wasn't necessary, so if anyone else goes through this process please don't factory reset. I am also curious about this apk. Sorry Cheesy

Finally was able get the Att remote apk. G/f confirmed that the rep knew she was running a custom ROM. If your still interested, I'll post the apk after I get out of this meeting.
edit: don't know what it's good for, but pm me if you would like it.
Warranty Replacement Woes
I called up the warranty department to get my phone replaced, due to the camera. They did the same ninja snoop APK file (which I still have) but I was smart and put the bootloader/firmware back to out of box state, so I wasn't worried. Weird, though. I don't know what they wanted by doing that.
Anyway, I got the replacement unit in 2 days, which was nice. The warranty department said I won't be able to tell the difference between a new phone and a "Certified reconditioned" phone. PSSH...
The screen of the replacement model wasn't as bright and had a yellowish cast to it, compared to my other phone, which I was not happy with. The top speaker also crackled when you play any sound through it. I called them back and they are now sending me yet another one. It's nice that they are trying, but I'm not going to trade one problem for another.
The one they did send out to me had a night/day difference with the camera though. I held both of them up to take a picture of my Christmas tree. Side by side, the screen of my old one was purple and the new one was nice.
I just wish I can get this whole thing sorted out

I had a similar experience at my local Device Support Center location. The "like-new" refurbished phone they wanted to give me had chips and dents in one corner of the bumper/aluminum bezel, over a dozen swirled scratches in the screen, and two very deep scratches in the screen that clearly made it to the digitizer. The polyurethane bumper was also really greasy and worn out. It was conveniently the only one they had in stock. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty offended that they tried to pawn it off on me.

Oh man...Yeah, nothing like that with this one. I mean, cosmetically, the replacement was better than mine!! I had a GAP-GATE phone, but just dealt with it because whatever. The screen and the audio would have bothered me more than a defective camera.
Got replacement no. 2 from FedEx...it's worse than my current model! Third time is the charm, I hope. Their standards suck! I seriously put the three phones side by side on full brightness and each display was seriously a different color. Wtf...my original has a blue cast to it, replacement 1 was yellow, and replacement 2 was purple.

Sorry to hear that. There's a thread somewhere in the HTC One subforum (non-AT&T forum) that talks about the three different screens used in the phone based on its manufacture plant; it sounds like you've had a go at all three.
I too am now having a replacement One shipped to me via AT&T. I'm praying it shows up problem-free, but after the ridiculousness of the Device Support Center trying to give me a replacement that looked as if it fell off the roof of a moving car, I'm not holding my breath.
Oh! They had me run the "snoop APK" as well... except it kept crashing on my One. I'm not sure if I should suspect the fact that I was running the official GPe RUU upgraded OTA to 4.4 or not. Thankfully, the guy I was talking to was a nice guy, and after 4 or 5 attempts to run the APK without crashing, he went ahead and pushed the warranty claim anyway.
I wouldn't recommend anyone else trying to use this "excuse" though, since he could tell I was legitimately trying to launch the app each time. It would just crash during authentication, after he had made a connection to my device.
