OTA ICS update & NO Flash compatibility. F.U. Adobe - HTC Rezound

I am NOT looking forward to the ICS update. I use Flash all over the place in my browsers. Everything from animated local radar feeds to youtube vids (I hate the youtube app) to FB games, I use it quite a lot. Most of you already know Adobe is discontinuing their support for their mobile Flash plugin (No support after Android 4.0.9). And I see Flash isnt working even on a lot of hand sets with 4.0.3. Just blank screens or an Error saying you need to instal even though you reinstalled like 3 times. HTML5 or not, theres still a LOT of pages and apps that rely on Flash to work. You cant just suddenly yank it out of users hands. Give people the support to continue to view Flash on their favored websites while the HTML5 transition slowly occurs. What they are doing is irrational..more irresponsible and corporate bullish. Of course this move needs to occur, but suddenly dropping support while an entire web of Flash content remains and not to forget the forced OTA updates into versions of Androis that Flash dont even work on........really Adobe?... :/
Sorry..just a rant

Works fine on the leak, why would it change?

Honestly, the faster the internet is rid of flash, the better. It's outdated and often takes a lot of system resources. It's time for the open formats to take advantage.

Any modern browser on all the same systems will support HTML5 all the same. Do you honestly think flash is gonna last much longer with Adobe coming out in support of HTML5?
“HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively,” Adobe VP Danny Winokur said in a clear reference to Apple’s rejection of Flash support on its dominant iOS devices: the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. “This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms. We are excited about this, and will continue our work with key players in the HTML community, including Google, Apple, Microsoft and RIM, to drive HTML5 innovation they can use to advance their mobile browsers.”
Now sure, HTML5 development has not progressed as all had hoped, but it's clear that everyone is looking to drop flash like a bad habit as soon as possible.

Seriously....HTML5 is slow. Look at the mobile Facebook site. Thats entirely based on HTML5. Glitchy and lags...at least it does for me. But regardless if FLASH has to be discontinued or not, it should be done in a smooth transition. My sis got the ICS update on her Droid Razor MAXX and Flash no longer works.

It works fine on the current ICS/Sense 3.6 leaks on the Rezound.

I don't use Facebook much and will probably delete it soon anyway. I just checked the mobile site and it seems to be a lot less glitchy than the damn dedicated Android app. I can rarely view a picture full screen in it.
But anyway, it should still be working for 4.0 devices. After searching around, it appears flash was intentionally disabled by Motorola in the MAXX update. The workaround is to delete or freeze an app called Flash Uninstall, then uninstall flash and reinstall. If her phone is rooted, you can try that out.

When I first flashed ICS I was having problems with flash not working also until I realized I had to enable it in the browser settings.

Lol? ICS has flash...?

Help me choose the best rom for my needs please..

I am rooting soon and would like to know what rom is close to stock but takes out the bs apps like footprints and such, runs quick, lets me overclock, live wallpaper, has the basic functions working (google voice, marketplace, voice input, etc). Also why choose other roms vs. what I need? Do other roms have better functionality? Thank you for all for the great community especially the devs. Love you guys!

If you're looking for a rom that's close to stock try plain jane OR XTROM.
If you're looking for the fastest thing out there you'll want one of the froyo ROM's but they aren't stable yet.
try the plain_janeT2....... pretty much stock 2.1....... can overclock, a2sd, wifi tether...... removes apps like footprints, amazon, peep, stocks....

I had problems with web views on apps though with Ivans - presumably because it uses the 2.1 leak instead of the OTA. Id recommend PlainJain for HTC goodness, but XTROM for sweetness and speed. That thing is peppy.
Also, you can very easily remove stock apps yourself. So whichever ROM you choose, adb commands (or Root Explorer app), can get rid of em for ya.
I use titanium backup to freeze/uninstall apps.
I did a search for XTROM and nothing came up.

READ THIS! FAQ for noobs with HP Touchpad running Android. !READ THIS!

Seeing as the Touchpad (known as "TP" from this point on) section is my hangout most of the day (I have a desk job...they don't expect me to actually work do they? pfft...) I have noticed a lot of confusion for people just coming over to the TP with Android and I know myself and many others get frustrated answering the same questions over and over again in the same threads, so I thought I'd try to put something together for what I think are the most common questions. Please add to the thread and I will update the OP. I'm hoping maybe this could be something we all could link to newbies so they can better help themselves familiarize themselves.
Please keep in mind that the TP is not a native Android device, meaning it was not designed to operate with Android on it. Being that this is the case, some things just aren't going to work until extensive work is done. We don't have drivers for some things etc. Patience is a virtue, yadda yadda and all that jazz.
If you do not have Android on your TP, here's how to get CM7 on your TP.
Lets do this.
I just installed Android and as soon as it starts up, it reboots! HALP!
It's sokay! Let it reboot a few times by itself. In my experience, it would reboot four times and then be fine. Why's it do it? I dunno...it just does.

Does the Touchpad have GPS?
Short answer: NO. Long answer: Maybe? Some people claim that the Snapdragon APQ8060 CPU that is in the TP has the capability, and it certainly is a possibility as this the same CPU that is in a bunch of high end phones (T-Mobile Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, HTC Vivid, Galaxy S II LTE, LG Nitro HD, etc). Maybe some day a developer will unlock it if it is a possibility. Currently though, there is no GPS on the TP.

Bravo!!
Great idea and good first start!!! Everyone (not only us noobs) will truly appreciate this. Searching for a nugget in 500+ pages becomes a near impossible task. My only fear is that your FAQ could become almost as unwieldy as the Xron thread. A simple spreadsheet as an attachment in your OP might be helpful. A straight forward listing of known problems with a link to the best answer(s) could probably take care of the vast majority of queries. Expanded narrative for the really complex problems, e.g., wifi issues, could possibly be included in a second spreadsheet or linked back to the appropriate thread for comment. Let me know if I can help.

This is not the place to pose this question. The place to ask would be Rootzwiki, where the dev's can be found. There you'll find changelogs and sourcecode for just about everything, and you can certainly make changes and compile it yourself.
If you honestly and seriously know what you're talking about, and think you can help, the dev team would probably be very appreciative of assistance. Meaning, if you can code that stuff, great- lend a hand. But if you're just curious, then try to research your question without nagging the devs. They work hard, and for free. You could begin researching the topic, here.
Now, in answer to your question. I could be wrong. I'm just a simple Java/C# coder who can also do a bit of web. But it was my understanding that the driver is the issue. The source code for the kernel has been released, but (also as I understood it, I could be wrong) the entire kernel was not released. The drivers for mic and cam, however, were not released (again, if I understood correctly). So there's the problem. And further, the cam and mic are not at the top of the devs' list of priorities. They are working on other stuff that they feel is more important, about which I tend to agree, unknowingly. I mean, they recently (in the last 4-6 weeks) got us hardware acceleration working (in several applications, but not all). What I mean to say, is that there are bigger fires to be put out that users don't typically see as fires. But also, the cam and mic drivers not being released is a pretty big chunk of code. AFAIK they were going to have to begin to write these from scratch, which is a pretty hefty challenge that they've chosen not to undertake at this point. That's their prerogative, and I'm not going to nit-pick about that.
Basically, if you need cam and mic, you can install CM7 (which has bugs of its own) or you can boot into webOS. Those are our options at the moment.

+1 to that. Probably going to contain a bug so when you say ROOT into google it hard bricks
I think he was meaning that Google made their voice searching thing come out for iOS, when their core users are on Android. Since lots of average people don't like to mess with their electronics, they might see it as if Google is giving other people something they should have gotten first. Because on Android, you have to have Jelly, when the majority doesn't even have it yet. But on iOS, they can install an updated Google search and have the new Google search.

+1 IMO they should have just updated Google Search for Android before iOS . Kind of dumb that more iOS users will have a more functional Google Search app available before Android users. I know we rooted users can install a zip to get a 99% functional Google Now but Android users shouldn't have to go that route for what is one of Google's core apps...

What can I use the Lapdock for, now that I am on CMx?

The good old Smiley, to make the reading happier:
I am looking for suggestions.
What could I use my Lapdock for, now that I made the switch to CyanogenMod?
Is there a good solution for making the VNC'ed ARM Ubuntu (look for Ubuntu Installer in the Play Store) work better with the touchpad? Should I sell it? Is there a solution to make remote control apps such as TeamViewer or Splashtop integrate with the Lapdock's keyboard and touchpad? Is there any way to make the device switch to Tablet mode without rebooting? That would be rather interesting to see. By the way, the CM9 ROM I am currently running has got Landscape HDMI working flawlessly, so that should not be an issue...
PS: Please do not ignore this thread. Any suggestions are welcome! (Use your common sense though)

I've struggled with the same question on my photon.. If there's working hdmi rotation on your CM, you can still use it for typing out documents, etc. I also used the mirror mode to watch movies on a larger(than phone) screen in bed.
But eventually I just decided to go back to a blur rom and use ubuntop (which is awesome) while waiting for official ICS and someone hopefully porting ubuntu 12.04 to webtop..
Paranoid Android Rom
I don't understand why canonical hasn't leaked that awesome ubuntudroid system they showed off.. there isn't an easier way to get feedback especially since webtop has died and windows 8 is pushing hard into that whole 'blur the lines' market

Maybe they are waiting for the unified linux/android kernel 3.4 this would most certainly make it easier to port and updates trivial.

Currently, I use it for watching movies as well, and I am looking forward to pairing a Wii Remote and/or a DualShock® 3 to my Atrix™, so that I can play some games such as GTA III and Shadowgun (Max Payne *-*) on the big screen.
I was happy with Blur until the day I ran into that tempting CM9 thread. I did not know what smoothness and responsiveness really were. Blur was the smoothest I thought it could ever get... But I was wrong, and now I have to choose between fluidity and Webtop.
I actually went back to Blur some months ago, but unfortunately, prolonged use of ICS can cause dependence. Believe it or not, I was pretty happy with Blur. Webtop was working flawlessly, I even had BackTrack installed, but then came the relapse: I could no longer resist to ICS. I am now back to CM9, and with it comes my dilemma...
I am looking for a way to use the Atrix™ as a more desktop-ish platform when docked (especially to the Lapdock). I believe the ideal would be Ubuntu through a local VNC client, or a remote desktop app, I just wish they would play nicer with the keyboard and touchpad...
Basically, something like a key mapper (easy-to-use, I am still unable to figure out WiiMoteController's key mapping scheme) for Lapdock's hardware. We could make a keyboard-powered Ouya!
What still concerns me though, is that games would not be optimized for it e.g. Minecraft PE, games where the camera angle for example, is controlled by dragging the screen, so it would have to be a really powerful, but easy-to-use key mapper, and since you can't have everything in life, I'm afraid I'm asking for much...

What I understand from your reply is that the Paranoid Android ROM could put my Lapdock back to use. But what is the Paranoid Android ROM? What makes it different from other ROMs? How could it (at least partially) solve my problem?
Please be more specific.

When the official Ubuntu for Android was announced, even though an Atrix 2 was used for the hands-on part, on the project's official hotsite... It was clearly an Atrix™ 4G standing there on the dock. The differences between our device's design and the Atrix 2's or the Defy's (Defy+'s) are not that obvious, but they are, indeed, noticeable.
You do know what that means, don't you? It means it is almost certain that our device will be on the first batch of officially supported devices!
I don't if the Atrix™ is still there, but if it's not, I can try to find the screenshot I took if you'd like.
I am so proud!

What do you mean? It would have to be ported to each supported device anyway, wouldn't it?

I have never thought I'd say this but, "Please don't get off-topic". I'd appreciate it if this gets settled in a new thread or via PM.
Anyway, you said "stock UbunTop", I could be wrong, but I think it's either stock or UbunTop, which is a mod born right here on our neighbor forum, Android Development.
If yours is really stock, I suggest you get BackTrack from the BackTop project, I don't it's got aircrack built-in, and I was unable to install it, so unless you're an experienced hacker, don't get too excited with BackTrack's features, but my point is: It is amazingly faster than Webtop, it seems lighter, I used to be able to run more than 3 different apps simultaneously...
If yours is really running UbunTop I'm afraid I cannot assist you, since webtop2sd never worked for me and BackTop and WebtopMOD were the only I could ever manage to get working on my device...

I can answer this. What he meant is that you should use Paranoid. Paranoid is a rom thats an hybrid of a phone an a tablet, in short words, you can activate tablet mode for some apps, while some other apps still run in phone-mode, for the ease of use.
What I actually meant was to give a name and a designation, which I did.
Google paranoid android rom and you get the website, the website has a much better explanation then I could or should have to provide.
But yes in short it can give you a tablet UI on lapdock.

I did before you guys answered and after I posted my reply, and was about to post an apology to you, my friend (Random Canadian).
Sometimes my brain takes just way too long to figure some things out...
I am sorry.
Anyway, thank you very much! This might just solve it all!
