S2 I9100 won't start after flashing CM9 Stable - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Friends,
I am in desperate need of your help.
I am a moderate user and I know how to stuffs about Rooting and flashing custom ROMs.
Today I tried to flash CM9 stable ROM for International Galaxy S2 I9100. I did it using temporary CWM.zip file and everything went just fine till the installation of ROM. But when I clicked Wipe Data, suddenly phone went off and now it doesn't start.
I tried everything, tried to enter into Download mode and Recovery mode but all was in vain.
Please help me what should I do now? And is my phone ever going to come back to life?

Do you know what kernal you had at the time, for the phone to go off during a wipe sounds like the brick bug but I didn't think it was present in LPT. Can other members clarify please. Does your phone charge when plugged into charger?

I'm sorry but that's your fault.
It's being said 1 million times already, that wiping your data in CWM while running stock 4.0.4 ROM with a stock kernel will BRICK your phone.
Your inability to read might have left your phone bricked.
Read through the forum next time, ask questions if you don't understand anything and I can assure you will be luckier next time.

Yes there are many threads in this section and on xda portal warning you about the brick bug...
Almost all 4.0.4 have a brick bug... moreover it is caused when we do a data wipe. I believe you have bricked your device... sorry for that

Hi, I thought the brick bug was present in only the leaked firmwares and those highlighted on samfirmware eg the Russian release LQ6 I think.

that's why I blamed you for this. You did not read or ask before wiping but was only guessing.
This is a sticky thread under General section warning everyone about the buck bug. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242
I and many others have also warned people about this bug but the unfortunate thing is that most of ask these kind of questions after the problem has occurred.

As far as I know all 4.0.4 ROMS have MMC_CAP_ERASE enabled, so in case of having bad chip and using wipe under temporary CWM floating around you will brick your phone. Although seems the problem is only in touch version of CWM. More detailed information can be found in 1st guide in my signature where Phil was talking with Entropy512.

^^Not only with touch CWM but also with "temporary CWM" wjich is what you were using.
Take it to a service center as your phone now needs a motherboard replacement..and I hope you still have warranty..!

Sorry dude
You might have to send your phone to device center for repairs but if you are out of warranty or wants to try to Fix things yourself, then the advise/instructions below is for you:
-boot your phone with usb jig, if you can get to download mode, then proceed to next step
-Visit this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841099
Good luck

Hi guys,
Thanks for all your replies.
I already figured it out that I have bricked my phone. But I was under impression that Data wipe with CM9 ROMs is not dangerous. At the time of failure I had already installed CM9.
Guess now I'll have to send the phone to Service center.
One thing I want to ask, "If the phone is hard bricked, is there any chance of them knowing that I had installed a custom ROM?"
If they can't then it might help me since my phone is still under 1 year manufacturer warranty.
Please reply and Thank you for your replies. The latest adventure of mine turned out to be painful one!!

I don't think so. since you can't boot into either recovery or download mode.
Even if you have an increased binary counter, it will be cleared once your device is forced with a usb jig to boot into download mode.

So if you can't enter into download or recovery mode there is no way to find out if i have used any custom ROM or rooted the phone?

That was the problem.
Your kernel has brick bug, it's being said 1 million times but you did not read it or ask questions before messing around with your device.
I'm afraid your device may be hard bricked.
I'm sorry.
Let's see what can be done.
If you can get to download mode with combined buttons or usb jig then visit this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841099

And people say Samsung has a bad customer service, Samsung FTW
The easiest way to Root your phone is probably the Chainfire Root, which you can find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
It`s very important that you read the instructions there on how to Root your phone.
It´s a great method because it gives you Root and Clockworkmod in one package and you will keep your stock Kernel.
After that you can install any Rom or Kernel you want but it`s highly recomended to not install any Kernel with the Hard Brick Bug. Read this thread for more information:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242
If you really want to remove the triangle there is a mod from chainfire, called TriangleAway: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
but I would recommend not to do it, since people also managed to screw that up (bricking their phone), I mean is it really so disturbing to see the Triangle for 2 seconds everytime you reboot?
Good Luck

Samsung Galaxy S 3 (S III) not booting after OTA update while rooted

Hello,
Last night I updated my S3 i9300 (International) while it was already rooted on stock.
After the successful update the phone was working fine for a moment, but after a while it rebooted randomly while being idle. now in the morning the phone was working the same for a while, after the occasional reboot, the phone didn't turn on, however it showed the ( Samsung Galaxy S III i9300 ) screen, loaded the logo for a while and then restarted again.
When i open the clockwork recovery, it works fine but reboots after a while.
I had a backup made from the clockwork recovery before the update and is stored on my PC (not phone).
Is there a way to fix my phone? :/
Thanks in advance...
Just try to reflash to stock using Odin.

How do you know what you flashed didn't have bootloaders? So your saying with the phone powered off holding volume + volume - keys, with the USB cable plugged in to your computer and then inserting the mini USB into the phone wont put you in to DL mode? I checked the button config for the i897 and that is it and on the i777 too....The USB jig should force the phone in to download mode then you can flash back to stock!

Then someone told you wrong. Since we don't have your exact hardware, we can't be sure we would be giving you the correct advice. Please go to the GT-I9100 section since your phone is a varriant of that phone.

Yeah man. The phones are very different in a lot of regards. Just best to always stick with the forum for your device. Good luck.

Yes there is, you need to send it in to service centre and have the motherboard replaced.
Didn't you see the brick bug about that rom splashed all over the threads here???

Samsung warranty. Or else a JTAG or whatever it is called. else board change.

If its the infamous brick bug, which it definitely looks to be, then JTAG is useless.

Most likely if you're on stock 4.0.4.
i just test my device and its say that i have insane chip but memory test PASS without problem. Does its mean that my chip is from "damage line" but its not damage
If I have full stock firmware and kernel, and if I update phone via Kies only, Is there still brick bug possibility if I make factory reset?
Because this is scary and sick if this scenario is possible

[Q] Friends SII problem

My friends SII will not switch on any more, when he tries someone else's battery it gets to the SII boot screen then loops.
It is not rooted, when I press down + home + power it takes me to a screen that says:
Product name: gt-i9100
Custom binary download: no
Current binary: Samsung official
I'm an SI owner so not sure what to tell him or how to help. Any ideas?
From your incredibly detailed and useful post outlining the problem I can tell you with absolute certainty that one of the cores on your friend phone has failed. Take it back to the core store and ask them for a new one.
Anybody who isn't a tw** willing to help?
If its not rooted its most probably a hardware issue. Just get it back to Samsung.

When you press down home n powr... its in download mode. Excellent- now just use ODIN to flash a rom! Done. But be careful to flash the correct ROM for i9100...
That "screen" which you're talkong about is called download mode.

^^
This.
If the phone has never been rooted/run non-stock firmware & still has warranty, why would you do something completely stupid like trying to flash a rom of any description when the flash could end up trashing the warranty ?
You've been given good advice, heed it.
I've just checked with him. The phone is outside of warranty, so he is willing to root and flash it with a ROM if necessary.
Should I be looking at flashing it with a rooted kernel and then a ROM?

Even if you flash stock rom via odin it will not void his warranty since binary counter will not increase... And anyway his warranty is no more he can take a chance...
Go to sammobile.com and download stock rom for your country... Make sure the version of your mobile... viz GT I9100 OR GT I9100G..
Download and flash via odin... Let us know

Thanks for your help, I'll tell him. Don't know if he'll be able to do it himself, so I might have to read up and then flash it when I have some time.
