Usb problem on E10i - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

I have a non-original USB cable for my x10 mini to charge and connect to the PC but it only charges. When I connect the phone to the PC with the cable, the green LED lights and nothing happens. There is no sign of connection neither on the phone nor on the PC. I have gone through all the USB ports shown in the "Devices Management" and there is nothing there. I have tried every USB port on my PC.
Is there something I can do to correct this problem?
P.S. I don't have the original cable because I broke it accidentally.

A lot of cables don't work for power+data. I also broke my original cable and I now use the one from my Amazon kindle because it works for both. I also know samsung cables work so see if you can get hold of either of them.

Thanks a lot, my friend. I will try a Samsung one if I find. I should have realised that the Samsung ones work because I once transfered some music to a friend of mine who has Samsung, but he doesn't have his cable.

I think most cables it's a case of power or data, not both. I have the kindle cable that I mentioned that works lie stock and a cable I bought to replace the stock that only does power and my dad's ZTE blade cable that only does data. Any cable advertised as power and data should work, if not you should be able to return it as not working as advertised. Well, you can in the UK at least.

Did it work before you flashed angelrom?
i didnt try it before my friend....today i bought the converter from micro usb to usb......so...is there any service that maybe did not is enable in the custom rom....and cant run the usb host....
It's unlikely that it's the ROM, as this is a feature that many people use.
It may be that what you are trying to use simply doesn't work. Do you have a USB mouse you could try? Also, is the device that you are connecting powered, or does it expect power from the USB connection?
well...i connect 3 devices... a keyboard...a mouse...and a usb strage stick....
and no led...power on...of the devices
In that case, I suggest you ask on the thread where you got the ROM. Have you already searched that thread to see if anyone else has the same problem?
i did a quick search...but i didnt find anything important...well ok my friend thx....

don't bother checking with more devices or posting in the rom thread, you just bought the wrong cable for otg purposes.
a simple converter from micro usb to usb won't do, the sgs2 discovers connected devices by the resistor between pin 4 and 5 of the micro usb plug inserted, and afaik, a usb otg cable needs a 200k resistor (if you decide to weld one in yourself, double check the number against other threads, i am not sure about that). simple converters, adapters and even some "usb otg" marked cables don't have a resistor in there.
and if the correct resistor is present in the plug, the device should discover the cable when plugged in, and then you can connect any device afterwards and get another notification. (as is seen in the usb otg video in the accessories section.)
i hope you did not pay too much on that cable, or have the possibility to return it for a refund or exchange, because yours has little to no known uses.
Thanks Chef, I didn't know that. That's the "something new" that I learnt today
thx my friend..i give 4 euro for this ****...but its ok....
i m gonna buy....this one of nokia cable....its ok i thing right... ??? http://europe.nokia.com/find-produc...cables/nokia-adapter-cable-for-usb-otg-ca-157

[Q] Usb host mode cable. What is it for?

I recently purchased the note from att and my wife bought me a few accessories from amazon. One of the accessories that came in the bundle was a usb host mode cable. I've googled for answers but couldn't find anything with details for what its for. Im not new to android and rooting, as Ive owned a few devices over the years and last one being the galaxy s2 on sprint. If anyone can explain to me whats the use for the host cable it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.
BTW I love the galaxy note!!! I sold my iPhone 4S to get it and Im happy I made the switch!!
It's for use with USB drives and other USB devices that require USB host to use.

For what purposes?
You can plug in a thumb drive to the cable and it will mount on your phone. You can also use usb keyboards/mice if you are so inclined.
I carry a cable so if anyone wants to pass me a large file I just plug in my device.

I use it mostly to run this: DSLR Controller.
It's also nice to be able to connect USB thumb drives to move files back and forth.
when I plug in my usb cable I don't get access to my sd card. Am I doing something wrong
Had a brain fart...
I figured it out

I think the cable you want is called an OTG cable, not just a micro USB to female USB.

What about Ethernet? There are USB-to-Ethernet converters and the Linux kernel likely supports them, I am rooted so I can run netcfg usb0 dhcp for sure. Is there a reason why this wouldn't work...?

You can use it for UOTG, USB on the GO. You can plug the micro usb to the phone and plug a USB flash drive. Go into a file explorer and look for a folder called usbStorage. You will be able to access the flash drive through that folder.
FYI, make sure that USB debugging is disabled other you will not see anything in the folder.
This is perfect for transferring files from USB or other media into the phone. I use it with my Canon S100 and transfer pics directly from the media card.

Attaching USB thumb drive to x10

Has anyone bought a micro-usb to usb adaptor (female) and attached a usb thumb drive or similar to the x10?
Does anyone know if it works?
I have just purchased one from ebay and I am awaiting its arrival in a couple of weeks. I am keen to try it and see if my phone will recognise it using Astro.
Will it break my phone?

Sorry USB OTG is not supported on X10 and there's no hack available for it to work as of yet

USB OTG Cables

I just ordered my USB OTG Cable today. For those that don't know what it means, it stands for USB On-The-Go. Basically, it allows you to read files from a portable flash drive straight from your phone. This will only work with a compatable kernel and since we have an ICS Source the developers said it was already enabled within the kernel.
This will be my first time to have ever used one and I was just wondering the pros and cons of having something like this.
I need some feed back~~
well from my POV these are my pros and cons...
PROS:
Extra space (whatever you can get that hooks up to usb, 2tb!!)
CONS:
Lugging around the extra crap
You have a good con list ziggy46..lol
I was concerned about that as well. But I have a 500gb portable external hard drive and it has tons of crap that I can probably watch or listen to on my phone. I can't shove everything on my 32gb sdcard. My 1T sits on my desk for my wife's photography thing she does.
My friend has an OTG cable and he uses his usb mouse to control his phone.
It's pretty cool but really gimmicky.
Hmmm...interesting. Thanks for the tip
if your otg cable works out good for you let us know. i might buy one and get a 2tb usb hdd.
btw, if things are fomatted in NTFS you might need to make a script for them to mount to the phone...
HTC doesn't support USB OTG in general. It will require a kernel hack. It didn't work in GB. I am not sure about ICS.
From what kozmick mentioned in his kernel thread it was enabled in the kernel. Im hoping it works if not then I hope it works on the N7 or my wife's SGS2.

There are things enabled in ics kernel that are not in gb kernel. 2 way call recording is one example.

I still have my OTG cable from my Nokia N8. I wonder if it will work..
Normally USB otg won't work on an HTC device. According to faux its something about the USB stack.
Ok. So I FINALLY got my USB-OTG Cable and even with the enabeled kernel it does not work. Kinda bummed but the part was cheap so its not a major loss. It works on ky wife's SGS2 and I read that it will work on the Idolian tablet I just ordered so I'm cool with that. I'll try and sell the other 3 that I won't need.

Just wondering, for the usb otg on the sgs2, did you need to connect the ext hd with power source? Or is the sgs2 able to power the ext hd?
It was able to power it just fine. I was just using a 2GB flash drive to test and you can see the led light come on. Not sure how well it could keep the charge up tho.

I would like to see this working on our phone. Seems pretty damn useful.
Anyone find a solution because before stumbling upon this thread I actually bought one as well but only for .99.

Does the galaxy s3 have a different micro usb port?

Hello,
I want to buy a new micro usb port to solder instead of the old one because I have charging problems, however I know the galaxy s3 has a different mhl adapter, but where exactly are the pins different? Because I don't know if a normal micro usb port will work on the he s3.
Thanks
Use the internet to find 'Samsung Galaxy S3 USB cable' should get some results for your phone but the USB shouldn't matter asking as its micro.

Thanks, so where exactly did Samsung change the USB? I remember that the galaxy s3 has 11 pins instead of 5 somewhere, so where exactly is this change if not on the micro usb port itself?
Thanks again
you won't fit anything but the official port in there

He is talking about the port not the cable. The part inside the phone.
OP, as suggested you will need to do a search and find an official Samsung USB port to put in your phone. Search on google and you can find tutorials on how to change and links to where to buy the replacement.
