G Note II and it's bootloader - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

My question is will the boot loader be locked? I'm currently on the Rezound (my first android phone) and I like the fact that I'm still s-on so that i can't truly brick the device... so do we think that we will be able to develop roms using s-on and just unlock that boot loader using TWRP Amon Ra or the other(can't remember name)

Word on the street says the bootloader will be locked.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Yeah, chances are, it's locked. And I know that a lot of developers won't touch the device, even if there's a temporary work around. So if it is indeed locked (and it probably is), I wouldn't expect any development until (or if) it's unlocked.
Sent from my SCH-I535

Yes it will most likely be locked. And I think devs on vzw will support a device like the note 2. Look how much development the sgs3 got before it was even unlocked. Kexec is pretty easy on Samsung devices so I'm not worried about lack of development.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app

If its a Verizon phone then the chances of a locked Bootloader are 99.999% likely. In the world of IT 5 Nines is what you shoot for and Verizon shoots customers first.

locked vs. encrypted
Just a clarification: Locked and encrypted are two entirely different animals. Even the Nexus devices are locked, but they're not encrypted. The bigger question here is will the GNote II be encrypted? And, if so, will it be unencryptable?

100% locked. Has Verizon ever released an unlocked phone on launch?

If we go off of history, then it will be encrypted. Only time will tell if we get around the encryption.

The OG Droid was locked afaik, but poorly. But, there have been at least 3 unlocked devices on launch, Fascinate, Charge, and Stratosphere were all unlocked and didn't require anything to flash them. I believe the LTE Tab 7.7 was as well, and OG 7" Tab. The Nexus and SGS3 were the first two locked Samsung phones on VZW.

The original Droid was definitely shipped with an unlocked bootloader out of the box. Nothing needed to be done. A lot of GSM users were upset when the Milestone was released because unlike the unlocked Droid, it had a locked and encrypted bootloader.
I had forgotten about the Charge, Fascinate, and Stratosphere, which were indeed released unlocked as well.

Droid DNA at this point is looking like it's going to be UNlockable through htc dev. Plus, unlocked as a gsm phone too. Kinda can give some hope to future note 2 owners. If not, hopefully there will be a leak good the encrypted boot loader like sg3.

Galaxy s3 was unlocked almost day1. Doubt this will be any different.

The S3's bootloader was only unlocked due to a leaked bootloader without encryption. So while the chances of this happening again with the Note 2 exist, it's not something that is a given.

I'm not entirely sure if it was all just luck. Samsung doesn't like locking their phones down, so I wouldn't be surprised if they "accidently" misplaced a few things along the way to allow access for those who really wanted it. Of course, there's no guarantee of the same thing happening with the Note 2.

[Q] Verizon's S3- can it be rooted?

Looked through quite a few pages and haven't seen this asked. Unfortunately I can't put up with the call problems of the Gnex. I just use my phone too much for work. Was considering getting the s 3 under warranty replacement if they allow it. Does anyone know if can be rooted and unlocked?

Yeah guys/girls at Verizon stores are stupider than my door knob, example went in to the store today to get a 4G LTE sim card for my thunderbolt that's been sitting in my night stand and now my sister wants to use and the lady and guy both working said that not only I needed to bring the device in but now there's a fee for the sim card :what:

First of all, the phone has already been released in Europe and parts of Asia for some time. Second, a while back somebody leaked the official samsung software rom for the S3, and hackers made quick work of it and had a root method within a day (http://www.ubergizmo.com/2012/05/samsung-galaxy-s3-rooted-stock-rom-leaked/). If you google "samsung s3 root" you will find lots of pages telling you how to root. Here's one example of such a site: http://theunlockr.com/2012/05/26/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s3-smartphone/
I know people are saying that you cannot get a S3 as a replacement but in my situation they did give me an early upgrade to a RAZR Maxx. I had to pay 200 for it but I at least got a phone with good signal. I asked about the S3 as an option and the csr said I could if I was willing to wait. I had another upgrade coming so I had already preordered the S3. My wife is getting the RAZR MAXX and she is thrilled.

Bootloader unlock? ??

Is there anyone get way to unlock bootloader of mopho 2.3.5 .. or any otherway to use any ics or jb rom ... plz tell
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
My man! This is discussed countless times here already . You should search before posting. You can only unlock your bootloader if your device was on 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 shipped. If you have applied 2.3.5 update OTA, you cannot unlock your bootloader. There is no other way to install ICS or JB ROM without unlocking the bootloader.

It's not up to the devs. The OTA 2.3.5 encrypted the bootloader with a signed private key that only Motorola has access too.
If you want your bootloader unlocked, complain to Motorola. Start following the Support My Moto campaign, and help us out on that front.

Guys, unfortunately if you want to flash custom roms, ur either going to have to move on to another platform, or try to find a MoPho with 2.3.4. Just accept it, this phone will be forgotten soon. Honestly, as much as I appreciate all the devs hard work, the custom roms on this phone are all lacking something, but that's not all their fault. Motorola screwed us all by cutting us out of the JB update. I think the MoPho works good out of the box. Rooting it alone is enough to make it a great phone.
I have not even been able to root my mopho since the update. Since my job will pay off the rest of my contract I am looking at a galaxy s3 or note2 through at&t. Any opinions out there? I have use Moto phones since Android came out, but this is a lame situation they put us in.

Or if u don't want to get locked into another contract, get a Galaxy Nexus and go prepaid. I just picked one up a Sprint version on eBay in perfect condition for $200. I would love to have the SIII, but this Gnex is a great phone too. I loved my MoPho, but this phone puts it to shame. Easiest root and unlock I've ever seen on a phone, and the roms are amazing. Just saw LTE speeds for the first time the other day. Incredibly fast, and I got perfect signal where I never had one before. I highly recommend the Gnex.

Anything right now about this is just pure speculation.
Right now it is thought they are pretty much identical to Sprint / AT&T models, except for maybe multi-window feature. It seems like there are updates that have been rolled out/will soon be available by carrier and a modified ROM that is supposedly going to be released on XDA that has the feature.
only known difference is home button branding on verizon only.

I thought the leads on the Sprint version were covered up by something.
There are some different pre-installed apps on the various carrier branded versions. Hardware is the same as far as I know, minus possibly the battery. I think carriers may also offer slightly different color variations as well, similar to the SGS3. For the most part though, Samsung has stopped making 400 different configurations of one phone and are making one phone and just changing the software around for the various carriers instead.
I'm curious if the Verizon version will be quad-core.

There's no need to be curious. It is quad-core.
Hardware will only be different in color/branding, and any changes to the radio chips/firmware so they work with VZWs network. Other than that, all devices should be the same from a hardware standpoint. Software is where most of the differences will be, but most of the stuff should be the same as well, with only a handful of carrier specific apps being different.

Samsung Music Hub is part of the features of Samsung Galaxy Note II (Verizon) Check out Samsung support site for Verizon version. The site doesn't mention NFC, but Samsung's support page for T-Mobile's Note 2 doesn't show NFC either even when that device has NFC. The NFC is part of Samsung Music Hub so you can "beam" music. So I take that Samsung Galaxy Note II (Verizon) as having NFC. And yes, the support site does confirm the S Beam.

T-Mobile WILL have LOCKED BL
Guys here
This time around it looks like AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile will have S5 with locked bootloader. (Only Sprint's S5 will have unlocked BL).
1. AT&T started with S4 and continued the tradition there after (G2, N3 etc.) (Also no dev edition AFAIK)
2. T-Mobile started with LG G Flex and looks like it will continue the tradition with S5. (Source) (Also no dev edition AFAIK)
3. Verizon started who knows when? (At least verizon is nice enough to have Dev edition, albeit expensive as hell).
What does all this mean?
Well you can't have "traditional" custom recovery so that means NO ASOP, NO custom Kernels etc.
You can have a recovery called "Safestrap" which will allow you to flash only TW based ROMs and simple MODs such as bootanimations but nothing more.
That is possible.
Not a confirmation that the T-Mobile variant with be locked though.
With the most recent update to the s4 they could have made it locked but they didn't as far as I can tell. Just has knox on it.
Still will need to wait and see I guess.

Alcatel OneTouch line are because of Secure Lock, and are still modern phones they are selling. You have the burden of proof on your hands. This would technically be my 1st LG I've ever own since July 2010 when I got my very 1st Android through Sprint Called the HTC EVO. I havent looked to another OS since. Feel in love with Development from the start, currently on Moto G7 aka River Android Dev Team and just left the Google Pixel 4 4XL Dev Group. Bunch of immature lil kids.... Anyway, is there no possibility of Unlocking the BootLoader in the V60? no way to install or flash Magisk for ROOT? No TWRP? I cant even imagine....[emoji23]
PS
They were listed as international versions on Amazon a week before launch....

Not surprised in the slightest that this is the case now and probably will get more prominent going forward. I'm guessing the money is in the carriers and not in selling unlocked phones direct to consumers.

Carrier Unlock isnt an issue, Just went through it on my Pixel 4XL. Took me (7) devices but once i found the right rep at TMO i was able to get them to unlock it, a) Same day i received it, b) wasnt even active on my account yet c)100% of Device was owed. d)
I could toggle oem unlock out of the box, cant enter bootloader though... Just fastbootd

Be careful! The carrier-locked LG phones only show carrier-specific radio bands in their spec sheets. This seems improbable in a modern phone but I'm not taking any chances. If the specs are right, a T-Mobile phone would work great at home but be dead while traveling.
