Battery not charging to 100% with replace, but retail bh5x does - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi again
I know this is a well know issue but i wanted to ask something about the batteries and this problem. For some reason when i bought my Atrix it came with the bh5x, but i bought a bh6x after a few months. The problem is that when i started flashing roms the battery stopped charging to 100% with the bh6x, in some roms it charges to 93%, sometimes to 72%, etc; but my stock battery every time charges up to 100%. I know it may sound crazy, how can batteries affect this percentage since the charge it's the same, only the mAh.
The bh6x charges up to 100% (my phones says) when i charge it with the wall charger. I'm now using the bh6x in case of i ran out of battery with the bh5x because for some reason, using the bh6x while charged with the external charger, my camera stops working, it force closes. At the beginning i thought that this could be just coincidence, but i haven't had that problem since i put the bh5x as the primary one.
For me it doesn't make sense that the stock one charges full, and the bh6x(original) doesn't. I thought that there could be some file or configuration on the phone that i've not seen, i'm not a professional in this rom stuff, but i know at least the basics.
Has someone experienced something like this?

There is a fix for that. I can't remember who did it, or what it is called, but it is in the dev. section.

Yeah, i know that there is a fix for that, but that was not the question, otherwise i would just download it over again. The intrigue here was that it's akward that my stock battery( bh5x) charges always to 100% without problems, but my replacement battery(bh6x) doesn't and when i charge with the wall charger it seems to cause problems with the camera, i just wanted to see if someone had the same problem, or even just the one in the camera....
I believe everyone got their atrix with the bh6x, don't know why mine came with bh5x...

Well, I have bh6x.
The battery was always charging to 100%
Untill last Tuesday.
I am on epinter's JellyBean, I was getting up to 30hrs of battery life. On Tuesday I dropped my phone, not a big hit but enought to cause the battery fell off. It was at around 75% at the time. Once I put it back in it showed 1%. Wipe stats, rebooting, nothing changed. Now after a full night of charging the meter shows 30% max. The battery seems to be fully charged as the batt calibration shows 4200mAh and the battery still lasts a very long time it just reports the wrong percentage.
Anyone knows what could cause it and how to fix it?

Well, i think you are in the case that upndwn4par said. For that there is a post in the developer section that is called Atrix battery fix, something like that, you can search it.
There are some other methods in another post that consisted in charging and disconnect the battery from the phone and wait for the question mark to appear in the screen, then putting it back again and let it charge for a while, after that it will show you 100%, but for me it only worked for 1 time. I think the post is called something like " The ultimate battery guide" .... i can't remember exactly the title

This one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198333
I also have this problem

same, i have got 2 offical battery, and 2 china, and if i change the battery, even if they are fully charged, my Atrix report wrong value....

The battery fix by jaggernaut is for Gingerbread. I am running JellyBean.
By the way: funny thing happened: I dropped the phone again, so the battery fell out abruptly again... Now it reports the percentage properly...

Battery doesnt charge full?!

Hey guys..
I noticed something weird on my galaxy s3. Whenever i charge my device till 100% and take it off from charger, it goes down to 99% immediatly. I thought it could be a bug in my current rom so i flashed another one. But the buf still exists. I even changed kernels. Still same problem. I am running latest foxhound rom
+franco r5 kernel right now.
Is there any solution for this bug?
Hope someone can help me.
Best regards
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
It is not a bug, that's how it is made.
If the phone charged to 100% and sat there for a long time, the battery would lose charge cycles and life faster. So what it does, is one of two things:
It will either NEVER actually charge to 100%, or
It will charge to 100%, take itself off the charger to about 95%, and then charge again to 100%, over and over.
HTC does the second one, I think the S3 does the first.
Thanks for the answer.
I didnt know that. Its just so weird because on every of my previous phones the battery stayed on 100%.
But anyways thanks

I know, I don't like it either haha. Some phones will even say "100%" right off the charger even if they're not actually at 100%, which is why sometimes you see people that take their phone off the charger at 100% and a few minutes later they are at 95, etc.
There have been a lot of questions about this in sammy roms, and also in the s1. And it got me thinking about it this way.
As soon as you disconnect the phone from the charger it's dropped to 99%. But in my head, I say it has had to have even used the most minimal amount of juice and is 'technically' no longer at 100%.
Some are saying other phones are reporting batteries on 100% for up to an hour after disconnecting from the charger. That might look great, but there is no way that is correct either, because it has to have used some juice in that hour.
Maybe samsung don't like pandering to the needs of the masses re battery use reporting. Maybe sammy is the only one reporting a correct level.
Me, I don't care. My phone lasts just fine. Are you getting better battery life than your last phone? Haven't I read that the 1x has ordinary battery life? Does it's percentage stay at 100% for a long time? If so, that would be a bit of a rip off to me.
I know sammy have included the option to show the battery percentage within the settings of the s3. I don't use it, and my battery indicator stays at 100% until the battery reaches about 90%. Works for me.
Batteries never charge to 100% anyways to avoid the battery over-charging and exploding

Charge stops at 54%
Hi,
My SIII e fully stock and a few days now it does not charge past 54%. i tried to drain the battery completely and charge it after ant same thing happened. I can leave it overnight charging and it stops at 54%. Any solutions?
Thanks,

[Q] HTC Evo 3d - Battery charge indicator after drop.

My appologies if this question has been answered somewhere else, I could not find any other threads with a similar situation.
My phone was dropped and ever since then it has not shown me the right battery level. It will charge on USB or AC up to 99% and stop. I connected it to AC power 30 hours ago and it never gave me the green light. This is after a full drain and then recharge. It did however stop charging at some point. I noticed no light was on, red or green, turned on the phone and my battery had gone from 99% to 41% in 22 minutes. I plugged it into USB and it appears to be charging back up. My widget now shows 84% with 4334mV (i dont know if this is right or not).
It is not an issue with the battery. My wife has the same phone and I swapped batteries. Mine works fine in her phone and I have the same problem with hers.
My other issue is that when I use the phone off the charger it will not show me the level accurately when it is draining battery. Example being, I unplug the phone at 99%, within 5 minutes I'm down to 92% (i know this is not unusual because of how the batteries charge). But, I will stay at 92% for hours and hours, with moderate use of internet, phone, and apps. Then it will fall from 92 to 60 ish in a few minutes and do the same thing. Sometimes it will tell me that I'm getting low (under 15%) other times it just turns off a second or two after the notification. If I plug in the phone and turn it on it shows me 1% and charges up to 99%.
In the few minutes I have been typing my phone charged up to 91% with 4336mV.
I was running ViperRom ICS when the issue started. Restored it back to Stock with no root and the issue remained. Now I am running Mean Rom ICS with the same issues.
I have cleared the battery cache in recovery too.
Any help would be appreciated.
If you kiss it. your phone will love you and it'll be all better. NOW KISS IT AND TELL YOUR PHONE YOU'RE SORRY FOR DROPPING IT! LOL!
Based on my experience with batteries of all kinds, it sounds like one of the cells may be damaged. Best bet is to get a new battery. They are decently cheap for a good one. Im actually looking for an extended unit myself. If you come across one, please PM me.
Thanks
That was my first thought but when I swap my battery with my wife's battery I have the same problem. Both batteries work fine in her phone but not in mine.
Sorry to bring this up again, my bad. But seriously you are not the only one with this issue.. I had the same problem since stock, swap battery didn't help either.

Battery Only Charges to 70%

I have searched the forums but not found a thread which is similar to my problem.. I know there are battery drain issues with wifi etc but this is wierd and only started happening a few days back.
Basically i plug phone in to charge and it charges completely normally and quickly as it used to but only charges up to about 68/70% then it basically stops charging any higher, LED still red, charging display over battery still there. Turning phone off, rebooting, unplugging and plugging charger back in all makes no difference!
Any ideas what could be the cause of this? how to resolve?
I'm on stock JB, using the official wall charger and USB cable and i made sure the battery was full when i updated to JB as well.
Try a different battery, these are getting to the point where some will start to fail, six month warranties on batteries for a reason.
Well i have a £1.99 spare battery in atm as i run the original battery completely flat today. Seriously though be surprised if battery fail after 3/4 mths - never had battery dying issues on previous phones i've had until they were a good 2/3 years old.. Always a first though LOL
Its like the battery is saying its fully charged at 70%, now its completely flat i will charge it overnight with the phone off to full (if it gets there) and see if is resets the battery callibration or something.
Try to wipe battery stats via cwm recovery/advanced.

This app just wipes battery stays, so you can do same by going to cwm/advanced/wipe battery stats.

It has nothing to do with wiping battery stats. I think Kangburra is right...
UPDATE.
Shamed to say that i am not rooted yet... I have been there and done all that on my old phone ZTE Blade, but i really like the added functions that TW brings and don't suffer much in the way of anoying redraws or lag etc (although i do feel that TW could be optomised alot better along with better RAM Management)
I was going to at least root to sim unlock but got a sim free unlocked phone so had no need, then other stuff i wanted to do like freeze samsung apps etc is all possible without root and i've not come across that "I" need root at the moment.. was going to for APPS2ROM but i got no need to free up space yet.
Cheers for the suggustions though - I have that battery callibration app already (from old phone days) obviously don't work though.
Anyway - I am monitoring battery atm but it seems that running the battery completely flat until it turned itself off and charging overnight with battery off has resolved this issue - maybe this reset the battery stats and recalibrated it.
Its back to normal now, charges upto 100% as normal!! Fingers crossed this was just a blip

[q] htc battery acting weird

i am havin HTC AMAZE 4G
when i used to charge it before
phone used to come to 90% from a full in approximately 1 hour.
now it comes very quickly like 10-15 minutes
& also the major problem is my phone gets switched off at any battery percentage like 65% & when it gets restarted it comes to around 8% or sometimes even 4%.
if i pull out battery again restart the phone then sometimes it comes to around 30% back or any random increase in battery or sometimes even decreases to 4% & then the battery gets drained in 5 minutes & i have charge it again
battery takes more time to even charge
sometimes using DATA & charging it even takes 10 hours to charge
i dont know what is the problem
i have been thinking about battery problems
but i googled & in some blogs it shows as circuit problems too
the problem is i am living in INDIA
this phone is not official here so the service center guy wont touch it & i dont want to waste money on the battery if it isnt the problem
USING HTC ICS OFFICIAL ROM
NOW BATTERY LASTS with normal data on maximum 4 hours
help me out guys
thank u
How old is your handset? Battery life decline is normal as it ages. Without being able to inspect and test yours out all I can tell you is the most likely explanation for what you're describing is battery wear.
The original HTC battery that came with my phone only holds 2/3 of the charge it once had when new, which is why I invested in a pair of Anker batteries and an external charging station (I purchased them together in a package on eBay for under $30 US shipped). Having the extra batteries has been an excellent addition. I alternate them every few days to more evenly balance how they are wearing and to prolong the remaining life of my original battery. Plus it's great to have an extra battery to use for those times when I really need my device, but don't have the ability to plug in.
Check out the best battery thread in the Amaze accessory section for more details and comparisons.
I hav been using this phone for 1.5 years
tried using battery of my dad he uses same phone.
It showed 56% in my fathers phone
Wen i switched the battery &; started my phone it showed 15% at start
So what could be the problem then?

You're getting the different results because the batteries aren't calibrated to each phone. If you put your fully charged battery in your father's phone it shows 56%, correct? What happens when you put your father's fully charged battery in your phone? Keep in mind that when switching around the batteries neither with be calibrated to the device, but will instead show a percentage vs the battery that was properly calibrated.
Example: the battery in my phone shows as fully charged, but is worn and no longer charges to the maximum. If I place it in my brother's Evo 3D which uses the same size battery but is newer. It will show as only partially charged because his device is calibrated to his newer stronger battery. Conversely, if I put his newer battery in my phone which has been calibrated to my older worn battery it will appear to be fully or nearly fully charged for a long time before it begins to show it's draining with use.
The only way to properly test your battery would be to either try a known stronger one in yours for several charge - discharge cycles as your phone calibrates to it, or to try your battery in another device for several such cycles. Then you need to compare if there was an improvement in up-time or not. Short of taking it in to be checked on diagnostic equipment it's the best method I can think of.
Good luck!
Thank you very much for the reply
Goin to a local mobile repair guy for a hardware check
Will tell you the results tommorow
Thanks once again
Maybe you just need to wipe battery stats. One trick that works is let it drain completly and let it be drain over night and charge it again keep doing a couple of days it may just get better. But think is just battery problem not hardware related.
My Original HTC battery worked its way down to 2 hours of usable talk time. Eventually, got so bad that it barely charged on anything but a high current wall charger. Technically it was under warranty at the time...
Ordered 2 Anker Batteries w/ charger for $30, and not long after that the charger broke. It quit charging batteries.
I then just stuck with one Anker battery in my phone and the other as backup. The battery I used the most is now down to about 4 hours of life on a full charge. The least used is about 8. I try to keep the worse one charged up as a backup in a pinch and now use the good battery full time.
Just how life goes sometimes...

Yeah that Anker charger is the weak-spot in that 2 battery package deal. The damn thing is flimsy and fragile. I'm so paranoid about breaking it I treat it with kid gloves. The batteries are pretty good though. The package was one of the best investments I made since owning the Amaze. Using indelible marker I labeled them 1 and 2, and rotate their usage with my original HTC (which is easy to distinguish). This way when I'm on the road I always have one fully charged spare handy, one charging at home, and one in my handset.

An explanation and some evidence would be nice. Its hard to believe a claim without proof especially with the way you formatted the OP. You asked if anyone tried the charger then two posts later you claim it screwed your battery up. I'm looking forward to hearing about the issue because if its a phone issue that's different that a charger causing an issue.

Got the charger yesterday put my phone on it last night before bed. This morning wake up it is only at 85%. That's the first thing and I have seen some reviews about this one and others doing the same thing. My battery life I was getting about 16 to 18hr a day of battery life. Basically when I get home from work I am about 60 to 50 % everyday. I have been flashing roms and dealing with battery life and stuff for years. Today I did not even make it home before it was dead. Now I downloaded a battery recalibration app and I am going to try that to see if that gets my battery back the way it was. It Sucks because I was so excited to get this charger. I don't know what the deal is. I emailed the seller on eBay waiting to hear back from them. Proof? I can't screen shot my battery use cause I have charged and took it off and back on today so many times. I will tomorrow and see what happens. Guess I will just have to order a different one.
From the photographs, that charger looks identical to the Itian A6 (it's even called "A6").
I have two of the Itians and they both work perfectly (my only complaint is that they will only charge the Nexus 6 in Portrait, not in Landscape).

Mine charged in both no problems with that. Just will not charge pass 85% and my battery drains Super fast now. I took my phone off the charger this morning at 5 it is 6:57 now and my battery is at 80% usually it would be at 97%. I have about 20min of on screen time now.
Usually my battery would say 1 day and something left of battery till dead after using this charger one time now it's this

Its possible but the battery had a built in safety so it won't overheat and cause damage. I have used a qi charger every night since I bought my Nexus 6 in November and I've had 0 issues. I use a TYLT VU and or LG WCD-100 and still get excellent battery life. The only thing that I could think of is if the battery massively overheated for a long period it could result in reduced capacity but even then it's not instantaneous. A battery fixer app is worthless and won't help fix any issues with it so I wouldn't bother with one. It could be more than one thing contributing to what you are claiming and using the charger could just be a coincidence.
I'm not saying it's not possible however l am saying it's likely that there's more than one contributing factor. I would use the phone and run a battery monitoring app (check the battery life OP in the general section for more details) and see if there is anything causing it.

Yes both of them charge to 100% just fine. I own 4 quick charge 2.0 chargers and 2 qi ones and they all charge my phone to 100%. I have a dozen or so older chargers that also work but I've never had any issues with my qi chargers. Once it gets down to 97-98% it starts charging again but I always wake up with it at 100%.

So generally speaking is it the charger or the phone that terminates the charging due too high temps?

The phone, although I never heard of it happening with an internal Qi chip before. I saw some people post it about it happening back in the day on the note 2 when those aftermarket Qi adapters first came out.

Ok so this is the deal I tested it over and over. When my phone gets to 100% the charger cuts off. When my phone charges on the wireless charger it kills my deepsleep. So in other words once I hit 100% it rapidly starts going down. Then the charger kicks on again then off on off on. I took the phone off the charger and sat it on the table I did not touch anything. Within 10min I was at 95%. I put it back on the charger it got to 100% I took it off rebooted my phone then I got deepsleep? I don't know why it is killing my deepsleep?

Well that is typical behavior and not your phone overheating from the charging like the post you quoted. Qi chargers do not trickle charge like a USB charger so they do exactly what you're describing.

I never said my phone was overheating. I said it only charged to 85% and it broke my deepsleep. No deepsleep drains your battery fast. That's the problem. So if I put it on there at night before I go to bed (which is why I bought it) all night it will go on and off.

I know but that's what the person you were quoting was asking about, over heating terminating the charging.
