Guess I should of made a thread for my video... :/
Nice work bro.

Excellent tutorial! Thank you for making the videos

So after watching these videos I have a question. The bootloader is unlocked but it still is s-on... Is it even necessary to get s-off?

I think I answered my own question reading around a bit but correct me if I'm wrong.. Not having s-off just limits us from accessing the system partition from within the phone, correct? We still have full access from recovery.. Is that correct?
Sent from my DROID DNA

You can access the system partition, you just can't write to it.

should i wait for S-off before I unlock and root? Is S-off achievable after root?

Yes, s-off is achievable after root, unfortunately, there is no s-off exploit for the DNA yet. So no.

Awesome videos man! It really helps to see someone do it rather than just following a tutorial.
Also want to say jcase is an awesome guy! I ran into some trouble with the exploit but jcase jumped on team viewer and got me all straightened out.
We should all remember show the dev's the respect and appreciation they deserve.

So....I have seen an unsecured kernel that in several forums originally posted by dsb.
I did not see "flashing the unsecured kernel" in any of your videos however in those kernel posts it (kernel) has been flashed in order access recovery and root.
Am I missing something?

thanks you for the videos, i unlocked/rooted my DNA with great success last night.

No success I get file exist and permission denie...is there something I'm doing wrong.

Will flashing a different recovery risk bricking the phone if an OTA comes out? Or does doing this disable OTAs?

[S-OFF] Got Root!

DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD UNTIL YOU READ THIS
Congrats and mad props to Agrabren and Team WIN for punching a hole through HTCs software and getting root! Agraben now has a thread for it so make sure you thank them for all of their hard work: [GUIDE] Fre3vo / Fre3dom Official Thread
The thread got way off track for awhile there but maybe now we can keep it close to being on topic. As long as it is somewhat related to the topic you won't hear me complain, however, this is Not the place to ask about Netflix, why your Battery doesn't last all week or how you can get out of paying a dollar a day for wireless tethering. For those of you just getting your phones, if you find that your bootloader is unlocked (read: S-OFF) please send me a PM. Also, if you're still unsure about the differences between S-OFF, and Root, and what it all means; you can check out the Android Dictionary or feel free to ask in the Q&A section. I know the dictionary there is somewhat lacking but it's still pretty good.
Now that root has been obtained we are able to focus on getting S-OFF and opening these things up for ROMs. HTC is using a new security scheme with these that hasn't made it easy so far, but as is with anything new it's going to have holes that are just waiting to be found. Using Flash_image to flash directly looks to be a dead end but there are still many different angles that are being worked on at the moment. Please jump in anytime if you have an idea that you think may help.
I have attached a few things to this bottom of this post and dragonfyre13's thread has a lot of good info that is being deposited there: Root: shaking something loose [WIP]. Odds are very good our current method of getting root won't last long so it never hurts to start looking for something new early.
If you find the file SMART_IO.CRD on your sd card please do not delete or format anything on it and let us know.

Update 6/28: Many are wondering if the Incredible 2 being unlocked would help us and Shinzul posted a good explanation of how it relates to where we are:

The incredible 2 shipped with Froyo on it, which means that there are plenty of available exploits that can be used to gain a root shell. As far as I understand, the inc2 guys didn't have a leaked eng bootloader, so once they had temp root, they had no way to unlock the bootloader without essentially hex editing the existing one and then coming up with a process to overwrite the existing one.
We have an eng bootloader for the 3VO, so all we really need to do is gain a root shell and then write the boot and recovery images and reboot - poof, s-off.
Props to the AlphaRev team for the inc2 work, but unfortunately, it doesn't help one bit for us.

Have you asked our leaker friend if he still has the device?
I get mine today "before 3pm CST" according to UPS/Sprint... I work at 2, so if I get it before work, and the SD has this file, I will post it before I even boot the device lol.
If we don't get an unlocked bootloader, then this is where we might have to turn to an XTC clip (aka like a goldcard method). I'll reach out to the XTC dev. I know he just started a thread over in the Sensation section.
il have mine in about a hour or so. i will be able to test whatev

I would be more than willing to try it with mine, and I'm expecting it to be delivered to my job any minute now. However, I've never used this method and when it comes to ADB, I'm a novice.....at best.
Is there any way you can provide a quick guide as far as what the command prompts we are to type to get GingerBreak to go through? I'm sure it would be helpful to many of us.
Edit: Also, do you think I should do this before the out-of-the-box OTA update goes through? I know we are all hoping the update has the unencrypted keys, but for all we know, it may shut the door on an existing exploit and makes things harder. What do you think?
Thanks in advance!

Then you´re probably s-on.
Did you unlock your bootloader? Do you have root access?
When booting into the bootloader it will say s-on or s-off.
I s-offed my phone yesterday with the same hboot, using the wiretrick here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743466

The hboot wil also say 'locked' on top.

Damn somebody got hamed on by coal686. By the way homie, hamed is a term in Detroit used to describe somebody that got told off. But on a serious note, this site doesn't need pompous jerks trying to act like they are better by trying to sound intellectually brighter than somebody and having a smart mouth. This site is full of devs and users collaborating together to help one another. So there's no need to be a ****. I'm not name calling I'm just merely stating facts

It's all good. I edited mine to to be more straight to the point. Some people do need to be reminded what this site is all about and I don't think you were in the wrong. Although sometimes we all make mistakes its recognizing them and being the better man sometimes. Btw I liked your comeback as well. Not too harsh and got the point across
Thank all of you guys for all the help! I appreciate it. I have another question. I flashed the 3d to metro pcs. If i flash another rom will it delete the flash? and i downloaded apn backup but it says that ics doesnt let it back up or restore anything...
No it shouldn't. And are you flashing a aosp or sense Rom? Either one ics won't allow third party apps to write to the apn xml file. But here are a couple solutions. On sense you can download msl reader and get your msl code. Once you get that code go into your dialer dial ##3242# and punch in your code under edit. Once you do that click on advanced, go to the bottom of page where your mms settings are located. If you know the setrings, edit the settings to your liking. However if its aosp, you will need to make a copy of your apn file. It's located in system/etc folder if you didn't know. Place it in your pc. Use notepad to edit the settings and save it. Copy it back onto your sdcard. Then copy it back into the folder and set the default permissions for the file and reboot. If that don't work try go sms as an alternative until devs fix the issue.

You must have had an unlocked bootloader or something because this method does not work for people who took the OTA and weren't unlocked beforehand...

You would have had to unlocked your bootloader before you followed the guide you posted.
And I just realized that on top of this being misleading, it is pointless. You don't have to be on a pre ota rom to get s off. If you are unlocked then you can s off on the ota.

My DNA was not rooted or had a prior unlocked bootloader at the time I took the OTA and I managed to unlock my bootloader, root then S-off and load Newt's Sense 5 ROM. I wouldn't have posted this thread if I didn't do it myself and that's why I sited the steps I used. We don't mean to be Debbie Downers, but there are just a few very knowledgeable devs working on getting the bootloader unlocked and have so far not managed to do that. What you claim to have done is what pretty much everybody is talking about on this forum and there's a bounty for it too.If you have anything showing you went from the latest 2.xx ota to fully unlocked we'd all give you hero status.

I'm not looking for hero status or any fanfare. I know what I did and wanted to help so I posted the steps that I followed to get unlocked because I didn't do anything special. I posted the method and the only way to prove it would be to get another DNA and do it again because posting a screenshot of my device now means nothing
If the steps I took helped others then I'm happy and if it doesn't then I'm sorry for unintentionally misleading some.
Before bashing or accusing me of trying to mislead I would suggest trying the steps I took because I have no reason to lie and didn't claim to do some masterful wizardry of hacking either

The people that messaged me about it also tried it and it apparently worked for them prior to me making this thread.
I don't know what else to say unless you guys want screenshots..

You are wrong about something here. You CANNOT unlock the bootloader of a phone that is on the ota and hasn't previously been unlocked. That is why there is a 500 dollar bounty for the person who finds the exploit that allows us to do that.

Ok. Like I said before I know what I did and the steps I took. All I can say is try it. Other than that there's no point in me going in circles.
Try the steps I took and hopefully it works

The step you listed is to unlock the bootloader. You provided no other info besides that. It is simply not possible to do that if you are on 2.04. If you did somehow manage to do that then explain it and go collect your 500 bucks.

What to do after JTAG S-OFF

I thought I would start a thread to help people that sent there DNA out to get JTAG s-off and now are trying to flash a custom Rom.
If anybody want to put there experience on here so people know the steps and the correct way to handle the bootloader.
I think it would be helpful. I am still waiting for mine to come back from mobiletechvideos so it would be helpful for me to.
Thanks to anyone who contributes.
I'm pretty sure this should be in general. Just sayin.

Yeah you're right. It's a good thread though. I'm thinking Q&A section would probably be good because of the other stuff in the same section.
It will get moved.

Forum move
Thanks for moving my forum, whoever did. I'm kinda new to the posting in the forums thing...
I should have my DNA back from MobileTech on Thursday. I cant wait but i've seen so many posts of people that got it back and werent sure what to do. Anyways I hope this forum helps out some people.
You've got to unlock and root it, then all the fun begins.
And please take the time to read through these forums, all your questions have been asked and answered. We don't like spoon-feeding people here when the answer is readily available.

How did you know I'm part Philippino? Utensils are banned in that country.
s-off dna
The purpose of the forum is to get the right info I've seen conflicting points on whether or not you still need to unlock the bootloader after s-off.
My understanding was that once your s-off you don't need to unlock because it bypasses the bootloader security checks. I am probably wring but I was hoping to get a clarified answer with this forum what do think choochoo

You shouldn't have to all you really need to do is flash the ENG Hboot and flash a recovery and then flash a Rom most have root already and your good to go. If you wanna use the stock hboot and only want su permission then you do need to unlock hboot it to be able to flash a recovery and superuser or supersu.

The eng hboot has more functions available so there is a better chance of messing up the phone. Most people stick with the stock hboot since that's good enough for most.

I agree with that only if your not familiar with using the ENG Hboot, if you are then it's the better choice.

Unless you actually run any of the additional commands included in ENG hboot you will be ok. Much ado about nothing.

The biggest issue with eng hboot is if you try to s on your phone with the eng hboot installed you will bard brick your device.

Why would you try to so your device after you have s-offed it
Where do I find the non-eng hboot? I'm paranoid that if I ever need to s-on my phone I'll further I have eng h-boot and brick it so I kind of want to go back.

Just got my phone back from the JTAG service and this was the exact procedure. Flashed the ENG boot and then flashed recovery. Bootloader still says 'LOCKED' but allowed me to flash.
I've JTAGG'd 18 DNA devices so far on the OTA update (I do this on the downlow due to specific "developer" who can't understand how to get all phones to take the RIFF JTAG flash software.
Flash ENG Hboot if you want the options available to it, though not mandatory. Install a root program (SuperSU is my recommendation), then flash a recovery.
Immediately backup your current setup, then go for any ROM you see fit. Profit.

Root with OTA 2.04.605.2 710 RD

I have a DNA, which I use as my second phone. I was messing around with it and I somehow re-locked the bootloader and turned S-On on. I still have root access, verified with root checker from Play Store. I can't remember exactly what I did when I got the phone... I had S-Off, unlocked bootloader, and root and was running Cryo for Droid v1.1.3. I tried updating to v1.2 and wifi wouldn't enable. I tried re-flashing the radio, but it wouldn't flash. That's when I started messing with it. As of right now, I am on 2.04xxx, running Cryo v.1.2 with root access, but bootloader is locked and S-On. Also, there is no custom recovery. No matter if I try installing TWRP or CWM. Whenever I try to boot into recovery red triangle with red exclamation point. If anyone knows a way to get me back on track I'd greatly appreciate it. Hopefully, they come out with 2.04xxx RUU.

Sorry. Okay, how do I move it there??? If I even can, or do I start a new thread???
You should be able to re-use the unlock.bin code you got from HTC-dev.com and unlock the bootloader again.
Is it me or does the title of this thread in the development section make you want to punch him in the face?

Thanks... It is weird. I got the bootloader re-unlocked and S-Off. I had been trying the same things and then yesterday I tried unlocking and S-Off and it worked. I haven't used my DNA is a couple of months. I don't know much about the DNA, my usual phone is a GSIII, which to me is a bit easier to mod. I'll be donating...
