[Q] Fuhu Inc... Nabi XD..JB 4.1 port to Nabi2 I assume possible? - Fuhu Nabi 2

I know many have asked for a Nabi/Nabi2 section which I wish there was one for a Q&A section there but here it goes and hope it gets seen here........
While searching around the interwebz on the word "Nabi2" just to see what I would find I stumbled upon this little jem which I didn't know about and was also to come out late December and early January marketed for preteens.
Now since the specs are similar ( being the CPU's are more than likely the same ) I would assume it would be possible to just simply swap over Jelly Bean to our Nabi 2's correct? I wonder how easy to modify for GPS and a bigger internal flash memory would be on these as well since there is so much space inside. I like that the XD comes with NFC capabilities as well.

I would love to get my hands on the Nabi XD when it comes out, not for my kids, for me! I really hope someone works out how to root and flash. Imagine running cm10.1 on it!

If I would have known of this tablet I would have gotten this for me and uploaded a full backup for everyone to play with.

plus the the version that came on the xd doesn't have the smart 3d ui(looks kind of like SPB shell 3d). Facebook does not have any real info on it cept they say it was Released early by Wal-Mart but they have no Release date for it . so if there is not official date then how is it released early ? I noticed that 90% of my question got ignored .
for Haha's go over and read some of the posts . unreal

Dirty pool, Nabi!!!!
The micro USB is not. It's proprietary, so my plans to use a USB-Ethernet adapter are foiled for now.
Shape is same as micro USB, but it's bigger than mini USB.
I need to find my USB A-A adapter. Perhaps OTG is already implemented in the supplied USB cable.

I hate those proprietary cables, I would not have expected that from an Android device, most devices are universal now, either Micro USB or Mini USB. However, there will be generic ones made eventually, it wont be long before you find them for a few bucks on ebay, just like apple usb cables.
Apparently, these are not supposed to even be for sale, just a rumor, but it would explain why you cannot find accessories for it, even on their site.

lol sorry but if you want a high quality tablet, this is not for you.. this is a great tablet to jump into the tablet game because of the low-cost but comeon now... its not that powerful..
Hahaha these little crap tablets give Android a bad name! They're saturating the market with low-price, low functionality tablets that virtually NO ONE wants. When it comes to cheap tablets I'm pretty sure the Fire and the Nook will be king (but mostly the Fire), so there's really no reason to have these things. They give ifans a reason to bash Android IMO.
This actually looks better than the Fire to me. I might be a buyer for my 7 year old...Why not? It doesn't look terrible. Wonder if it is completely 100% lead-free? lol
I'm cool with this. Cheaper tablets give us more options. There are people who basically just want a tablet to read ebooks and play the occasional angry birds. That's what's Android all about. Having options.
LOL, looks like asus slacked for too long and got beat by some cheap china tablet company...
You snooze, U loose!
Ohwell, atleast when the prime finally does come out it will have ICS hopefully right around the corner, and hopefully it will make the diffrence we all been looking for.
That chinglish makes my head ache, coming from a Chinese guy.
Lol, Asus is pissed already, but this will kick it
But unfortunatly there are no measurments on the page.
It looks pretty thick.
So what are the dimensions, how much does it weight?
Also it says it is already sold out when I click to order it.

well, it isn't the first Craplet device..
Different options for different budgets. That's not such a bad thing. But keep in mind this $100 tablet comes with a $60 shipping charge that makes it not so great afterall.

[SPECS] Oppo R5 Specifications - Members Thoughts

Hey all
Oppo's R5 claims to be the worlds thinnest smartphone, at 4.85mm its certainly slender. Its so thin it cant accommodate a 3.5mm jack for headphones! But hey, we're in a world of Bluetooth headphones anyway. Throw in a 5.2" AMOLED display and a Octa-core processor, this looks like a sleek smart purchase. What would other members thoughts be on the specifications or design of the Oppo R5?

I actually think this phone is beautiful, no audio jack doesnt matter to me. When it comes to android nowadays all phones are just another android until someone does something somewhat different like what oppo has done with the r5 and really make a phone stand out not by specs (which no one I know really knows about in phones anyways) but by design. I really hope this phone will work in the us and that i can at least buy it. I would imagine that the 64bit snapdragon 615 and the 2000mah battery in it would fare just fine if it were updated to 5.0 lollipop with 64bit support which leads to my only concern with this phone... When the hell would it get lollipop??? Idk how good oppo is with there updates to new versions of android
That's my main concern. I read that Oppo makes good hardware, but update-wise they are rather bad.
Some people in the Oppo forums even asked for AOSP http://www.oppoforums.com/threads/c...ject-hosted-by-oppo-a-la-sony-z-series.22028/ but there is no reaction to it yet.

They're working on improving that, with multiple approaches, but these things take time to play out. For example, staffing up competent developers and/or training ones without experience with Android takes time. Official AOSP support requires staffing manpower which, at least right now, they simply don't have.
You have to keep in mind that Oppo is new to the mobile industry, and also that the Find5 was their first device released in the West. (Chinese users seem to care FAR less about updates than Western users.) They're definitely willing to learn from their mistakes.
Thanks for the inside information, from a developers poin-of-view. I still keep an eye on the R5. (in the official forums, the German ambassador told that Oppo plans to release the R5 world-wide in Q4 2014/Q1 2015. And on their facebook page Oppo wrote, that they release it in the Philippines in December 2014).
Limited feature smartphone!
No NFC
No Micro SD Card slot only 16GB storage
Wi-Fi is old "N" standard no "AC".
No headphone jack!
It already obsolete!
It is not obsolete at all, If you read what is the package content of the phone so u can see that it has earphones which instead of classic jack can be attached to the phone via an usb adaptor. The adaptor is included in the starting package of the phone. I don t know how many users need internet speeds higher than 450Mbs which is the standard for the N wifi and where can u find hotspots which have AC standard. I think less than 1% of the users can really use an AC standard wifi on it s full capacity. I have a three years old telephone which has an NFC built in but I never used it.There are just a very few country in which u can use the NFC and even in those countries in a very few cases. The 2000 Mah battery that could be a disadvantage but most of the other phones have just one day battery life so that remains a question how will oppo behave with a such battery. It depend a lot on settings and on the manufacturer. And the SD card slots absence it could not be a problem in these days when u get gigabytes and gigabytes free cloud storage accessible from all u r it devices. I think the sd card is more obsolete: u need move manually all the data from it around u r devices.
Love the hardware but wish it had more internal storage. To put only 16gb of storage in such a beautiful phone is a damn shame.

Modified drivers with full OpenGL support?

I am vaguely interested in a nexus 9, but the driver gimping is a non starter. I do play some Tegra optimized games, and frankly I refuse to give them up because of Google handiwork. I was considering this device as an alternative to the shield tablet, but if this issue can't be fixed I'm going to stick with nvidia's offering. FYI I do already own the shield tablet, I was just considering a switch due to issues I've been having.
I too am interested in making this possible. Pretty frackin pissed at google for disabling something the hardware supports for no reason. Nvidia has it working for the shield tablet so you know the drivers and libraries are available and it would be a simple task for then to enable.
I don't know where its disabled or what all would have to be done/tried to make it work. I have complained on both Nvidias and googles forums. Currently waiting for nvidia to release the full factory images for lollipop for the shield tablet to try compare + copy files. I'm no developer but may have to learn how to compile kernels and build Roms to properly try and overcome this.
Anyone who has more knowledge of the ins and outs of linking libGL.so and such that can offer any insight on where to poke around or start would be greatly appreciated!

Latest response from someone at nvidia in the 2nd nvidia link above...
"Hi, Users
The K1 Chip does support OpenGL 4.4 and CUDA from the hardware side. The problem is that HTC made the device and Google controlled the software for that device.*
For Nexus 9, using AEP (Android Extension Pack) you can still achieve a lot graphics boost on K1 as using the modern OpenGL APIs."
So it sounds to me like google are the ones that left full GL 4.4 out. We need to petition google to have it enabled and included in future releases.
The Antutu benchmark for 3d graphics is really close between the Shield and Nexus 9. The N9 doesn't seem gimped in this regard. Is there some specific opengl functionality that was left out but doesn't show up in this benchmark?
What's really odd are the CPU performance numbers for the N9 in Antutu. I have a hard time believing the results, as the numbers seem unusually low.

Yeah they removed a ton of functionality that can speed up applications, as well as breaking compatibility with a ton of existing apps. The android extension pack is a garbage replacement and is google's apparent reasoning for removing OpenGl support. Also benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt anyways. They are garbage for real world use.

Still worth buying a Nexus 9?

So guys, I would like to buy my first tablet, and i'm indecised between shield k1 and Nexus 9, I was also thinking about the galaxy tab s2 9.7 but it's too pricey for what it offers IMHO. I'll use the tab mainly for media consumption (heavy games, browsing, movies, emails).
From I first started researching infos about the Nexus 9 it's immediatly appeared all the frequent issues that comes with this device (Light bleed and unoptimized performance) but all these things were related to the Lollipop version of android, and now with the Marshmallow/N version seems better, so this is my question: it's still worth to buy this device? Does the performance are really fixed now or there still many cases of lag/crashes (as appear to me)?
I really like "+1 inch size" than the shield but seems this device is just heavily compromised (as performace), and all these things are leading me to buy the Shield K1. As a final note, I like to use stock android version, and seems that with the Nexus 9 the real game change comes when you install a new ROM, do you confirm this?
Any input will be appreciated, so don't be afraid

Any input will be appreciated, so don't be afraid

Personally, as much as I adore my n9, I'd probably go k1. I prefer the size of the n9, the 4:3, great devs, and in hand feel. Other than that though, Google dropped the ball with Vulcan, and nVidia has been going great with updates.
I'm also interested in Lenovos new tablets.
@jimmix93 do yourself a favor and get a pixel c. It is worth the 100-150 dollars extra imo.

TBH, i'm in love with google pixel C, but I can only find it on Ebay on a very high price, not lower than 650 $, so that's why I choosed these two tablets, espcially the K1 for it's price.

Mee too i'm interested, but I don't think they will be at same level (as raw power) as K1 or Nexus 9. We'll see
I got mine off swapa for $200 a few months ago. personally I think it's still a relevant device. Turning encryption off, and a kernel with 2amp charging really helps. It takes out the frustration. Most complaints about the device come down to speed and charging.
Not over clocked my AnTuTu benchmark awhile ago on pre-released 7 was 101k. Remix 3 was around 95. On official N (no encryption, oc) getting 107k. My point is behind the benchmarks is it's keeping up with the devices still out there, and they're the only way to show over the Internet that it doesn't feel slow.

Personally I have the N9, my son the Nvidia, so I can compare...
When you want to stay 'standard' (no tweaking / custom ROM/Kernel) , buy the Shield. Standard out of the box working very well.
When you are not afraid to root, tweak en flash.... Buy the N9. Out of the box I was not satisfied about the snappiness and use custom kernels to fullfil it.
Suc6 choosing ?
