Good News! For LG Optimus L9 p760, Its Bootloader has been unlocked via JB update. - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

After 3 months. ie. on 13-3-2013
As spokesperson from LG promised, LG has finally released Jelly bean update for Optimus L9 with unlocked bootloader. Hip hip hurray... :victory:
here is the original post:
I recently contacted LG regarding unlocking of bootloader of LG Optimus L9
They told that Optimus L9 p760 EU will be unlocked via next OTA.
But they’re not sure about the other variants because operator’s decision hasn’t been made yet.
I think this would greatly help the developers owning P760 EU.
I just hope it helps other variant's of Optimus L9 aswell and just hope there's is not much different between other variants hardware wise.
Specially p765 which is almost identical twin in terms of specs.
Here’s the original reply from LG spokesperson:
Dear DavinderSingh
Thank you foryour interest about our mobile phone.“We received your request on LG Open Source Code Distribution site (http://opensource.lge.com).This site isjust for providing source codes of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) we haveused in our product.”
P760 EU Open will beunlocked on next version update. We estimatethat you can receive the version during the first quarter of this year. But we arenot sure that the other models because operator’s decision hasn’t made yet
We hope thisinformation will help you.Thank you.
Sincerelyyours,

Wait wait wait. Dont jump too high. Its LG pals.
When they say next version update, they really must be meaning "next version update", but they have not told exactly when. So just wait until it really comes.
They said LG Optimus 2x will be given ICS in August 2011 (was printed on box too) then they said 2012Q1, then said 2012Q2 (facebook lg italy) but finally they released it in Dec 2012.
I hope this is not the same kind of TROLLING with us. lol I am not being so negative, but its really hard to believe this company.
EDIT: BTW, Mr. Davinder Singh, how did you get P760 in India? Officially LG L9 released P765 in India, its on website too. Nothing about P760 on indian section of LG.

@cmahendra sir i have LG optimus L9 p765 asian version same as your.

Re: Good News! For LG Optimus L9 p760, Its Bootloader will be unlocked via OTA update
I wish someone would pull their boot.img and recovery.img from the other variants so I could compare them to see if one variant that has an unlocked boot loader would be a universal fix for the entire L9 range.

Pull boot.img and recovery.img from which version? Can't you do that?
I saved this procedure long time back, but its FOR LINUX ONLY from Galaxy Ace thread. Not for windows user like me.
Download this: http://www.mediafire.com/?zdw766gu35o0fb6 to follow readme.txt that is included. (It's for Linux)
---------------------------
Europe have only V10A for P765, this also means next update will be most probably V10B. I think all experts should check V10B from all countries, may be they are unlocked too.

I had asked LG guy info on bootloader unlock for all the variants L9 , The Lg guy only told me about p760 eu.*
I guess angryGTS wants to compare all the boot.img,recovery.img but he only has his own boot.img/recovery.img.
Lets make a table of Features/Differences and ROM compatibility chart for Lg optimus L9 variants.

Re: Good News! For LG Optimus L9 p760, Its Bootloader will be unlocked via OTA update
Right. I only have the P769BK. I would like to compare the other variants mount ponts, boot, etc to see if they are all equal on that aspect so we could possibly get a universal bootloader if they arent already the same.

Bootloader is very important part of Android and it is made proprietory by each manufacturere. If bootloader of P760 is working on P765 without issue then probably at least these two L9 variants have matching bootloader. I may be wrong. Tell me.
PS: By the way V10G is officially released for P760.

Re: Good News! For LG Optimus L9 p760, Its Bootloader will be unlocked via OTA update
You are absolutely correct but since these are the same phones in essence minus some small difference like smaller screen and lack of NFC for the P769 and a couple other minor differences in hardware that shouldnt effect the way the phone boots or the mount points for recovery etc. Thats why i wish someone with the other variants would either pull the boot and recovery or at least post the mounting points like on the thread for the P769 in the Development section. (If what i typed made any sense lol)

Now we know that P760 KDZ is working fine on P765, this means both bootloaders are same or bootloader of P760 works perfect on P765.
This also means if we have UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER for V760 (europe), it will also be used as unlocked bootloader for P765 Roms. Wild guesses, though, but please tell me if this is wrong.

Sounds good. I've seen in some early reviews of P765 what it has NFC contacts and antenna, but NFC was disabled in firmware. Now P765 doesn't have this hardware parts ever

On device you must use dd utility from console or ADB:
dd if=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/recovery of=/sdcard/recovery.img bs=4096
dd if=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img bs=4096
That's all, in /sdcard you have two files... Don't know if dd present in stock firmware, but with busybox it's definitely works.
With .KDZ a bit harder...
By the first you must extract .KDZ file - LG-P970 ROM COVERTER 2.1.exe, what I found on this site, works just great (there an other utils, but this best, thanks for it's author). This utility converts .KDZ in to two files: LGP765_V10E_00_AP.bin and LGP765_V10E_00_CP.fls (in my case).
LGP765_V10E_00_AP.bin - that's unpacked firmware.
Now you should grab some HEX editor and get recovery and boot images from .bin file (I used xvi32). Find "ANDROID!" strings (case sensitive!).
The first occurrence will be something like this "boot linux from emmc: mmc failed to read bootimg header ANDROID! boot linux from emmc: bad boot image magic", search next. After you find this string, just after "ANDROID!" you have structure, described in bootimg.h header (http://www.netmite.com/android/mydroid/cupcake/system/core/mkbootimg/bootimg.h). You must get size from there and cut .img file with this size from .bin
Then you must use split_bootimg.pl perl utility to extract files from .img images. In windows you must have perl installed or use CygWin. I have Linux notebook, so I used Linux on this step, because it's simpler and faster...
Sorry for my english, I'm not used to write such manuals

[Q] p760's firmware on p765?? Is it possible?? has anybody tried it yet

Has anybody tried flashing firmware's from different variant's of Optimus L9
the reason I am saying this is p760 will be unlocked in the next OTA update.
yes you heard it right p760's bootloader will be unlocked in the next update.
So I was thinking if p760's firmware is compatible with p765 or not ????
I think it would be worth to try flashing firmware of p760 on p765 !
they both are identical and the only difference between these phones is gorilla glass. IMO
I know it would be very risky. but it would be worth the risk.
It would be nice if two or more people could confirm that p760 firmware works on p765.

1) Noticeable more responsive screen
2) Faster and Smoother than before.
3) Data and Apps were not lost (after this Offline FOTA) so checked all options and apps, were seen working fine.
3) The most important thing is Outstanding Full Network. Was having 2/3 bars inside my home, now it FULLLLLLLLL
Though No Root and device is showing as "P760" in phone information (who cares), will use for 2/3 days for testing and will share some more finding. cya

You need to compare the two phones to the bone to see if there is any difference
go ahead then do it. you will brick your phone

Yeah you right, if we could somehow compare all the variants of L9 and make comparison/compatible chart for the ROMS that would be really helpful for the L9 community.
I wonder if there is way to try find whether the rom is compatible or not, something like RUN/debug the ROM on the device without flashing it. I wonder if it is possible to that.

OMG, you are really brave. I think you are the first person to try that. Are you sure all hardware and features working well. I will also give an immediate try.
Actually I do guinea pig myself and my L9 always, but this time just want to re-confirm for some more confidence.
The difference between p765 and p760 I think just in the NFC feature (cmiiw). I installed the firmware 10A Baltics only for downgrade from firmware 10C Indonesia. Since I can not downgrade to 10B Indonesia for the purpose of rooting, so I try to use p760 firmware 10A Baltics. And it worked. I am not really sure if "all" hardware and features working well since i use it only for couple of hours but phone, texting, data, wifi and tried some important setting were working fine.

Baseband should be different coz they release different BB for different regions. BB contains the Variant Name also like ... P765, it should be different than P760 though version number could be same.

Maybe, i compared versions: "L6260_MODEM_SIC_01.1232.00", they identical...
What I've noticed - after flashing and factory reset - internal memory is about 2Gb free, compared to P760 where was about 1.6G
"adb reboot oem-unlock" brings my phone to fastboot.
I've flashed CWM, rebooted phone into recovery mode, flashed root.zip
So my P765 CIS V20B now have normal CWM and working root

[GUIDE FOR BB] Flash any BASEBAND on stock with new method :D [UL BL]

***WARNING*** THIS IS ONLY FOR EXPERIENCED USERS WHO REALLY KNOW FLASHING, BASEBAND, RIL Files, etc. SORRY NOT FOR NOOBS. THIS MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE AND USE INFO AT YOUR OWN RISK. IF YOU COMPLAIN I WILL SIMPLY LAUGH ON YOU.
Since long time I was wondering how to flash baseband of my choice (country) on roms from other countries and was playing around with baseband so many a times. Finally I found an easiest way to flash it with Lelus method.
1) I have L9 P765 India Variant and was using P760V20C Europe with little network problem. GPS was excellent but phone network was bit weak and sometimes bad.
2) I have unlocked Bootloader long time back
3) Wanted to be the first to flash P760 V20D Baltic and ROOT and CWM.
4) But I wanted ICS Baseband from the ICS Rom released for my country, that is, P765 V10G India.
So this is how I did it.
Collection of files and utils and some preparation.
0) Take backup of RILD file from my original rom (Indian P765 V10G) and saved in sdcard for future reference.
/system/bin/rild
1) Extract Baseband file LGP765_CP.fls from Indian P765 V10G with this method and rename it as LGP760_CP.fls
2) Downloaded P760 V20D Baltic Rom and extract LGP760_AP[11].bin and replace the Lelus's codes with HEX EDITOR. Keep both files together to quick copying. See how they are ready and waiting
IMPORTANT: If you are not rooting at this time, just skip this part.

}
3) Connect Phone to PC with usb cable and in "LG Software Mode" and run Angrywolf80's new script (Root9.bat) in Command Prompt mode.
4) phone is still connected in LG Software mode and added lines in windows HOSTS file and started smallserver. And also started Flashing new V20D_00.kdz.
5) Now while replacing files in "C:\ProgramData\LGMOBILEAX\Phone", quickly replaced these two files instead of usual one file in Lelus method, "LGP760_AP[11].bin" and "LGP760_CP.fls" and let flashing go.
IMPORTANT: If you are not rooting at this time, replace only FLS file.
Flashing finished smoothly and phone started normally. Finally pushed CWM and installed SuperSu with usual method
So, technically speaking, now my P765 is on Jellybean of P760 V20D Baltics with Indian ICS Baseband of P765V10G. Both Rooted and with CWM Touch. Cool, hah?

NOW WHAT I RECOMMEND IS EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT ROOTING YOU CAN REPLACE FLS FILE AND FLASH YOUR OWN BASEBAND. I TRIED THIS SUCCESSFULLY. TESTED OK.
If you are already on any STOCK rom which is not from your country and you have network problem, then you can try flashing same ROM but replace baseband from ICS/JB rom released for your own country
.
Though this will not wipe your data and apps and phone starts with same rom version, it is good to keep nandroid backup. Dont tell me I did not reminded you. lolz.
Feedback me if anyone tries this. Goodluck.
PS: Only fearless survive on XDA, rest of them go to service centers. lolz
Thanks for this guide, I will try it out once I'm home. Hopefully I'll have better signal/3g performance.

JB not available yet for P765 India, that does not mean we can not use it. With our own matching BB+RIL files we can flash any roms in the world made for P760 and P765 and use it without any network issue.
We have been doing this since ages for O2X (i still have). Even GetRil app is specially made for this reason.
Tell me if it works for you or not. Good Luck
Right, Im in the process of doing this mod now. Do I need to rild file from the baseband rom also? If so, can anyone upload their rlid file from P760 V20C Europe Open?
Edit: Signal seems all good. No problems found.

Yes yes yes! Take backup of RIL file too from your original rom. Use only if it does not matches or in case problem persists. It is always good to have BB and RIL in matching.
Well thats the idea of whole GETRIL software is. Matching BB+RIL. But sadly GETRIL developers are not yet considering my request. May be they are too busy. Just now again sent them email to remind.

Thanks for the reply. I shall replace the RIL file. I just need anyone still running a V20x Europe Open ROM to upload their RILD file if they could! Thanks steve
I replaced the RILD file and rebooted the phone. I then got no service at all. I had signal with the stock RILD. I think im going to stick with the stock one and just use the changed baseband. Im not sure why the RILD didnt work, maybe the P760/765 have different mobile antennas or just use a different rild format or something? it was the JB rild going onto an ICS rom, so thats a possibility too. I guess other will have to test to see if it helps them out.

U have P768 right? did steve mentioned which variant he took the backup? his signature shows P760. Did you mentioned V20B, V20C or V20D while asking? No. I see some complete obvious mismatch here.
Okay, I had a feeling it may not be right. I am going to try an ICS V10E baseband and rild file. I did ask for a P760 v20 file but I didn't specify which version. The variant of phone doesn't matter does it? As long as the rild and baseband match, right? And yeah I have a P768. V10E.

You are again wrong. The rild file and FLS file must be exactly from same KDZ. Then only it will be called match. I think I clearly mentioned that before to you.
Dont depend on anyone else, do two times flashing. The best thing you can do for this is this....
1) Flash ICS KDZ which works perfect for your country. Extract FLS file and copy RILD file from same KDZ.
2) Flash any other KDZ you want ICS/JB from your country or any other country. But while flashing replace the backup FLS as I mentioned in OP.
3) After phone starts, copy rild file in place.
No dependency, no chance of errors. :good:Goodluck
You are a monster!

Everything is perfect and working fine. Will report more results about network and other radio related things.

Oh my God, I think I am going to start calling YODA! , you are in fact a MASTER!, again thanks a lot for what you bring to the table (worry not i will press the thanks button), listen I hope I am not way off topic here, but id like to ask:
Can this same logic be used to flash Cyanogenmod on a p768g but while flashing throw in the Camera Drivers so it works?, also can you share with me how to unlock the bootloader on that same device?, I already have root and CWM installed, so I just need instructions on how to unlock bootloader, thanks again!

Thanks for sweet words.
Baseband method is nothing to do with apps. FLS file is hardware controller file for RIL (Radio Interface Layer). So this method will not work for anything else.
For unlocking bootloader of P768 this post already existed. I am not sure but could be bit tough for newbies.

So, which baseband should I use? I'm on V20A, and I wanted to have a European baseband, I am from the UK, not Mexico
I was thinking using the V20B P765 baseband, would that work?

Many european basebands made for P760 worked for my P765, but I dont know it will work vice versa or not? You have to do some tests and decide yourself.
I dont know how come you got P768 in UK. I think LG supplied P760 in UK, may be I dont know.
Got it, I think!? (the not so young padawan says).

Thanks so much (again) for your quick and kind response; I get what you are saying and also realized, perhaps I did not explain my self very well, ill do my best this time.
Ok so I would like to install cyanogenmod or any of those cool ROMS out there like AOKP and such, (this is why id like to unlock the bootloader!), but what I have found is that this ROMS, they do not support P768 , they only support P760, so if I do install this ROMS then the camera on my device will stop working, so what I have understood from this post of yours, is that, taking advantage of the Lelus method you have installed whatever ROM from other countrys you liked, but you have modified (more like kept) the Baseband values in order to keep such values that work best on your geographical area, so I think I get the concept and started thinking (wishful thinking), maybe flashing through lelus metod and replacing some specific files in the middle of flashing could actually solve the not working camera?
Again thanks a lot! =)

I got it because at the time, there were no companies selling the L9, only mobicity.co.uk. and they are a grey importer. So my phone was imported from Korea. I wish id waited a month or so, the p760 is now available in the UK @ play.com.
Anyway, back on topic. I am going to try out the baseband from V20B europe open, ill post my results if I succeed.
Thanks
Could anyone please post the german baseband files for P760?
My phone is currently not rootable, so I don't have access to system/
Regards
@cmahendra can u post the screenshot of ur indian baseband on hongkong v20d? I replaced indian baseband file during flashing, so just wanna know whether i got it correctly. Thanks
thank you for this post, I'm using a ROM 20C from not sure wich country and my phone is from Mexico. The phone network was not working, but after replacing the FLS file, I'm able to use the phone network. The issue now is that cannot use 3G, so I'm trying to obtain the RIL version from Mexico Telcel 20A, if someone have this version in his phone, please share with me the RIL file, thank you!

I keep running into problems while doing this. I am trying to use the Europe Open V20C P760 baseband for my V20C P768. When I flash the P768 KDZ but replace the FLS file, the phone works fine, but as soon as i replace the RILD file, I lose all signal and the phone doesnt recognise my sim card. Even if I switch the RILD file back to the default one, I still lose all signal, the only way to fix was to reflash the KDZ. I dont understand why replacing the RILD file loses all signal.
Does cross phone baseband swapping not work or something? Ive used the same versions of jelly bean, both V20C, i renamed the FLS file to P768 instead of P760.
All I want is good network performance in the UK, really wish Id gone Optimus 4X, atleast that is sold here and has a UK baseband

[Question] Is there any hardware difference between the p760 and p769?

Other than the obvious screen SIZE difference, is there anything that would stop me from just modifying the updater-script of a p760 rom and running it on the p769?
Radio firmware isn't an issue, so long as it's just mobile data that is affected.
Yes there is. Compare the sources of ROMs built for both devices, and you'll see.

Or I could have looked at the unlocking instructions for each device and noticed that the display is the major difference, but also the radios are different.
It has been FAR harder than it should be just to find a p760 V20B Europe Open kdz with an active download link.
I have V20C installed, but I can't find which bin to patch, and all I can find is a patched version of the Poland Open bin 11...but no Poland Open KDZ.
Worst part? I can obtain root with the restore method, but I can't get the bootstrap recovery to work!
if you wnat to flash a new rom you dont have to unlock the bootloader just follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-l9/general/guide-install-custom-roms-locked-t3249828

I have made a ROM for both variants and I can tell you they are mostly the same. They have different screen size and different accelerometer/sensor, and P760 has NFC. That's why there are different vendor firmware for both.
It's not possible to just port an already compiled ROM from one to another since they use different kernels, but when compiling it from source it's quite quite easy to build for both variants.

T-mobile root via tungkick

Just saw a video on the Verizon v10 root via tungkick, and didn't see that they unlocked bootloader, and on startup screen didn't show unlock bootloader. Wondering if we (tmobile v10) could do the same using LGUP and a tot file. Do we even have a tot file available for tmobile? And big props to tungkick.

Sorry for the dump question, but what is TOT??
I have been reading articles with that and I can figure out what it means...

I'm pretty sure OP is talking about the .TOT files in the newly revealed root method for Verizon V10 devices, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ic-add-rootsystem-tot-vs990-tungkick-t3336345
If you can root both the Verizon and AT&T variants using the .TOT method, I'm confident to go out on a limb and say that it's possible for the T-Mobile variant as well. The only question is... why? Rooting will void your warranty anyways, so whether or not the unlocked bootloader message is displayed doesn't matter outside of your personal preferences.
If this is something that people want, I'd suggest contacting Tungkick.
Yeah there's no sense our variant having this root method....BUT that's just me.
Also trying to figure out why we'd need this method...

TOT files most likely mean TOTal files, containing contiguous raw dumps of specific areas of the flash memory which stores your firmware.
They can also be written in most devices without restrictions using the mmcblk0 method with the proper "seek" and "count" parameters.
If you explore them with a hex editor, you will find plenty of interesting "things", normally not found in stock files ( like DZ, KDZ, etc.)
Fun stuff...

I'm confused too as Tungkick already has provided a rooting solution for 6.0 on T-Mobile.
