MediaTek had announced the launch of its MT6589 Quad Core chip a few weeks back.
Note: Seems like the Micromax A116 rooting guide I had published quite a long time back has gone viral. Let me tell you, it is *NOT working*. The bin4ry method is not working on this phone. I had posted that guide by asking a friend, who got hold of the device pre-maturely, if the bin4ry method worked. He replied yes, but it seems like he was dumb. The guide has been copied by various blogs like theinternetbuzzer, techenclave, this xda thread, letusbetechy.blogspot.com etc. You don't need to try these unless you have a lot of spare time. Subscribe to this thread to stay updated.
And since then, we had been waiting for any manufacturer to put that chip into some use.
Who is better than Micromax in putting MediaTek chips into use? So, the news is: Micromax has launched the successor to the Micromax Canvas 2, and a third one in the canvas series.

I won't go listing down all the detailed specs here. GSMarena is better at doing that, right? To remind you, Micromax Canvas 2 is the most popular phone ever in GSMarena's database (which does have a long history, I guess.) Micromax has reached the standards no other Indian company has ever reached in the cellphone business.
Micromax A116 Specs Review + 3D Demo
If you don't know even the most basic specs, the device has a 1.2 GHz Quad Core MT6589 processor, a 720p 5" screen with 294 ppi density and 1 GB ram. Every other spec almost coincides with A110.
For those who don't know me, I am the guy behind the A90S and A110 threads, and helped unite the users of those phones. My mod for Micromax A110 which swapped internal sdcard with the external sdcard (and thus allowed users to store games' sd data into the relatively larger external sdcard) swa Micromax releasing an official update to the stock rom. The update had the swapping done already (along with repartitioning of the internal storage.)
The A110 thread received over 300k hits and over 3.5k replies. That's why, despite being a locally sold device, we saw many custom ROM's themes and other mods coming out for that device. I hope that the same thing happens with the Micromax A116 too. So, if you are thinking to buy or have bought the A116, drop by on this thread, and leave your feedback about the phone.

Availability: Book online from Snapdeal (Coming soon, at the time of writing)
Rooting and Stuff:
The phone can be rooted using this rooting guide. (Coming real soon) Update: Available below!
Clockworkmod Recovery: Not compiled yet, will be available once someone is able to extract stock recovery from the device (and that will happen only when the device is available)

Is MMX A116 is going to have at least Triband if not Quadband??? I mean to say it should iether have 850/900/1800/1900 or 900/1800/1900 GSM bands. This is a very basic requirement so that the phone can be used globally while roaming. Can you please confirm??

I am buying it as well

Great god love to MMX aswell thanks for making a real android development for this phone i'd really love to have this phone whenever it gets released.
Can anybody shed some light on when it's available.

News sources say 1st week of Feb.
So maybe a week or two tops!

Without custom roms and kernels a smartphone looks dumbass.

Btw im confused with plastic quality of fone. Sure mmx is a local brand, no disrespect tho, in my family thr r SIII, Notes and blah-blah (my family is brand conscious) I can also easily buy one (btw im a student) bt i thought to myself spending after 30k i will get what? glossy-tacky plastic. N if i have to get plastic y not settle for 15k n i can spend my rest of 15k elsewhere. I have done my "RnD" read thru hundreds of forums n im satisfied by so far research. Mediatek mt6589 is sure a good soc with powervr sgx544 gpu n very battery efficent (atleast on paper). I want a gud dualcore fone so my battry last long n not quadcore. Afaik mt6589 is a weak quadcore bt very strong dualcore (a bit better than qualcom s4 dualcore adreno225). The reason im having doubts is that i can live with plastic (but will cover it) bt wat abt camera n music output thru earphones. My sis has a xperia p n i luv its sound thru my soundmagic pl21. I know smpl 21 isnt dat gr8 after plugging into xp it does wonders. Can anyone comment on music quality of canvas 2 so i can have idea what'll b quality of canvas hd. One more thing will its screen can b compared to SIII if not then HOX. Plz answer my plethora of ques coz these things are keeping me away from canvas hd.

[Q] huawei mediapad 7 lite

Hello everyone I just started New Thread for our new device Huawei Mediapad 7 lite
1 rooting
2 cwm installing
3 custom rom
4 bricking
5 unbricking
6 .................?
I got rooted my device with unlockroot tool u can get it from official web unlockroot.com
now I am testing to flash cwm recovery by using a lot of method but not passed ,
I think this device hasn't download mod
but there is official way to flash official firmware with dload ( inside : unlmt.cfg ,update ) copy dload folder to sdcard and just reboot ,
and there is the way to flash cwm recovery.img by entering fastboot mod but when I did it I got problem that my pc doesn't recognize device even installed all drivers related .ie fastboot ,adb and usb driver . Any advice ! Thanks
My experience on this device
1 No proximity sensor u can not use flip cover to screen on off
2 No hdmi port
3 No flash light
4 No phone speaker the voice only come from back speaker and headphone
5 No auto brightness
6 No fm radio
And if i may add something:
A 1.0Ghz Cortex A8 CPU with Vivante GC800 GPU that is good but has a very poor gaming compatibility.
I put the CPU speed in bold because the tablet is announced everywhere as a 1.2ghz, including Huawei's site, but that's not true. I will be returning mine tomorrow after i complained about this at the store. The store contacted Huawei and their reply was:
"we are sorry for the mistake, the MediaPad 7 Lite has infact a 1.0ghz CPU instead of the announced 1.2ghz", etc, etc, etc. But despite this statement, the device remains announced as a 1.2ghz tablet.
The tablet is well built, and not as slow as some reviewers say, but i can't trust a company that does this kind of stuff. Plus, they don't seem to plan to release JB for it (not even ICS 4.0.4)
Anyway, i wish the best of luck to anyone that is willing to develop software for it, i know from experience that everything is possible here at XDA.
Sorry for spamming a bit, but i think everyone deserves to know this.
Sure, it isn't the fastest tablet out there - but for what you pay, it isn't bad either. From what I have seen around here, you can install an overclock-capable kernel and get some decent speed out of it - and the build quality isn't bad at all. I use it (stock) to play a few games, such as Mini Motor Racing, and check my social networks when out and about - and it does those, and YouTube streaming, just fine.
It would be nice to see something like Cyanogen support this little tablet. I don't think Huawei will.
sow bad

[Q] Looking for CWM Recovery on HD-89 7 inch tablet

Hello,
I recently bought one of the HD-89 7 inch tablets that are available now.
Nice thing is they also have a phone function
They are MT6589 devices based on MTK8389 hardware.
I was wondering if there is already a CWM Recovery available for these devices.
Rooting was no problem.
Cheers,
Oni

Hi Oni, I have just bought my HD-89 7" phablet and have been looking for the same thing. Hope that someone with good knowledge will make the CWM recovery out.
It seems there are several variants of HD-89 in the market, called by different names. I want to root my phablet also but I don't know how to do it. Could you please show me the product webpage where you bought it from, and please help explain the steps to root it.
Thanks in advance..

Thanks. I managed to root my HD-89 with MTK6589 auto one click (motochopper) a few weeks ago. Have enjoyed using the device until yesterday when my Wifi/ bluetooth were not working. I thought the hardware module was dead, luckily I got the stock firmware file from the seller whom I bought it (she was very helpful). In the end, I flashed the stock firmware with SP Flash Tool, and together with MTKDroidtool, I now managed to put Clockworkmod Recovery 5.5 and root my HD-89 again with these two wonderful tools..... Using the MTKDroidtool to create the CWM recovery image is rather easy and straightforward if anyone wants to try....
I want to extend the running hours of the tablet, now considering to play witth the build.prop editing to reduce wifi scan timing.... Changing the boot animnation is next in my list

Don't worry about the fake hardware you are probably using an kernel/boot.img that the tool doesn't know(Just a guess I'm not a super pro). Do this. Root the tablet first, then click "To use boot from phone". Then click "Recovery Boot". U have to be rooted for flash_image to work, I know that much.
HI, i just passing by, two interesting things:
- There is updates every month of this phablet, mine is 4.2.1 android with compilation 03_v89_tg_20130615 ,and there is a 4.2.2 version! : http://www.needrom.com/phone-roms/star/serial-h/hd89/
- Some versions of this phablets are clocked to 1.5 ghz, It would be nice to get that kernel!
Best regards everyone

MTK 6572 - To ROM or not to ROM?

Hi
I have a phone based on MTK6572 (HUAWEI Ascend Y330). I have root on it. But having only 512MB of RAM and a 4GB internal ROM (of which more than 2GB are occupied) I am definitely interested in flashing a custom ROM that is more lightweight and quicker. I couldn't find any custom ROM specific for my phone type/model, but there are some ROMs for other MTK6572-based phones. I can't post yet external links to show you what ROMs I am talking about, but on devs-lab.com site there is an article titled List of all Custom ROMs for MediaTek Mtk6572 Ext4 & Ubifs.
So I have two questions:
1) Is there any chance those custom ROMs work on my phone?
2) Having a full backup of my phone (made with CWM) am I 100% protected against bricking?
A. Your never completely save. Even nexus devices have been bricked.
2. Your best bet is a port. Might lighten it up but with that amount of ram it will still drag ass at times. That is hardly enough to run the os.
Anyone else can answer on question 1?

I asked this question so many times here but didn't get any response. Why unite 3 has been thrown out from development while unite 2 has great development support ?

Hmmmm, i guess i can never craft the perfect answer to this specific question, but as far as i understand, it's the outcome of the right hardware (MT6582) as well as the perfect timing of the release of this device with features every geek wanted at a very reasonable price of that time, and yes I'm still replying with my Unite 2, its 3rd birthday is close and its still working like charm
Haha... There is one girl nearby my home, with Unite 2, with tones of bloatware with KitKat. When I see her phone, I feel sorry for her lack of knowledge about XDA, see only knows how to make a call and install app. And I feel sorry for me too for not having that device.

Please help me ROOT my MT6737 Phone

Last September,I bought a new phone called the Kult Beyond and it was a good phone for the Price. It's a little under $100 and myself being a student, couldn't really spend too much over that.Previously,I had an iPhone 3GS which I rescued from a recycling Center for $30 bucks,4 years ago.iOS 6.1.6 Jailbroken and was a lot of fun.But soon enough,I found it to be lacking in many aspects. So I bought this new phone,My first Android phone and I was OK with it for a while,But soon enough,I realized that it's very average and software optimization is kind of missing.3GB RAM and at idle,Only 900MB is free. Then I found it's all that System Bloatware which cannot be removed.I then learned that with ROOT,We can remove them! Also learned that Root can allow to mess with CPU/GPU Voltage and Clock settings which can help with battery life as well!
But I ran into another problem - Media*******Tek.I tried MONTHS of rooting the phone using various methods right from KingRoot.etc and NONE worked.I read that the newer MTK-equipped phones are very hard,near-impossible to root compared to Snapdragon due to many reasons such as the Mass fragmentation of MTK-Based devices.etc
Here is the specsheet of my phone
Device I.D - 33DE8604CFF9E987
Serial Number - K1950A1X77150008
Kernel Version - 3.18.35
MediaTek MT6737 Quad Core 1.25Ghz CPU
3GB RAM,32GB ROM
13MP Front and 13MP Rear Camera with Dual LED Flash
3000MaH Battery
Android 7.0 Nougat
Can anyone here please help me root my device so that I can atleast try to fix the sluggish performance at times due to some unwanted System Bloatware using the Memory and CPU Excessively ? Thanks a lot!

Make sure you have unlocked bootloader before following the steps given in the above thread.
Since you have Mediatek device, you should use the custom boot img method given in the thread.
