[Q] Help, Bricked or Not?? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a S II and rooted it, maybe i did a bad flash or sth and now I cant turn my phone on, even odin and recovery, what should I do! Do i have to JTAG it??

Device Model?
What ROM were you on?
What did you try to flash?
Before Jtag, you gotta try USB jig.

Can you get download mode??? have you tried a usb jig???? if no if no download mode then jtag it probably is going to have to be. Good luck :crying: (never good to see an s2 die/go into a coma)
if you manage to recover the poor thing double check you rooted correctly. You wouldn't want to do it again. Im told that jtaging is an expencive game to pay for.

[Q] alternate way to reset the custom binary counter (if jig is not an option)

I have a malfunction usb connector so usb data transfer or my jig is not working anymore. The data cable and the jig is tested on another I9100, and they worked well. Surprisely the 3key download mode is working, and firmware flash with odin too.
So I need an alternate way to reset the counter before I send it back to warranty service
Is it stored in the bootloader? Can I reflash it with odin?

there is no known alternative way of resetting the counter, if it was as simple as using odin then we would have never worried about using a jig.
So then what is the best way to make a total brick? (result: no 3key recovery or download mode)
I should mess with the bootloader in odin?

LOL!! This is the reverse "I bricked my phone" thread. It's the first time I've seen someone asking how to brick their phone.
I suggest you look at the above mentioned "Hallppz!! I broked mi fonnee" threads and do exactly what they did to brick their phones. Stuff like flashing SGS firmware on SGS2 can help.

Can help, but will be detectable. just start a flash with odin and unplug halfway through, you'll get a connect to pc screen and wont be able to acces download mode
It is the first destructive thread in this forum, isn't it?

Thx
I'll try it tomorrow in the evening unless somebody comes up with a better idea.
I'll post here the result
AFAIK, samsung service center won't check for "flashed" phones. When I returned my SGS2(just cf-rooted), they said I should return after 30mins because they'll flash it back to default(They didn't even check, they just said that while I was still filling-up their repair form). But my yellow tint was still there, so I got a new phone. Now no yellow tint visible on the eyes.
gr8... hope i
dont hav to visit warrnty ever..

Anyone in UK got box to repair i9100 ?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but im trying to find someone in my area that has an unlock shop or is in possesion of a z3x/spt/riff/volcano box or similar.
I'm willing to travel anywhere in the UK and pay for someone to help me with my Galaxy S II (i9100) repair.
bump
Why do you need a box to repair your i9100? What's wrong with it?
You can flash ROM's yourself using your USB cable via ODIN. If your phone is bricked, then you need to get a USB Jig to boot into Download mode and then flash a stock ROM.
If you're looking to unlock your phone, you can do it for free with Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock (Root needed).

You do realize that if he has a hard brick, meaning, doesn't turn on and can't go to download mode then his only option is jtag it, right?

Hard bricked with odin re-partition

Guys. I am in deep trouble. I was trying to help a friend and its bricked now.
I was flashing CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4 with omap4_all_20110627_emmc.pit and unfortunately re-partition was ticked automatically. After the flashing was passed the phone was removed. Now it doesn't turn on or anything. Its dead!
Please somebody gives me a fix please!!

Did you try a USB Jig to get into the download mode?
What happens when you plug in the USB cable? Does Odin recognize the phone?

Try a usb jig and see if you can get into download mode and if that doesn`t work you probably are looking at a Jtag job or Samsung repair service. Is the phone still under warranty?
Is it a I9100 or a I9100G?

Remove the battery and under the battery there should be a model name.
However, if you have the I9100 and not the I9100G you flashed the wrong Pit File. There is a big difference between those devices. I9100 is Exynos based and I9100G is OMAP based. You probably messed up the partition of your phone or even the bootloader by flashing wrong stuff on the device.

Yes you are right mine is I9100. I flashed the wrong Pit file. So can I do anything to unbrick it? If I could get into download mode I could have tried to solve it. but I cant! Moreover the device is getting heated even if its turned off and unplugged. When I put the battery on its heating up itself.

There is no way (at least to my knowledge) to unbrick a hardbricked device without jtag. What you can try is to find someone in your country with a jtag and give him your device, so he can then unbrick it. Maybe there is a Android Forum that is based on your language, I would ask there. In Germany there are quite some people who do this for a little cash, so maybe you can find someone in your country.
Good luck

[Q] I might have messed up my bootloaders

So like title says, i think i might have messed up my bootloads on my galaxyplayer 4.0, it won't even turn on, or the screen won't turn on nor will it go to download mode, i hear jtag can fix this, but besides that, is there anything i can do that won't cost $40?

I'm not a professionnal but if you flashed another device bootloader onto your device I don't think there is really hope. I think JTAG is the only choice as it can flash bootloader (I think but not sure). Sorry but I can't help you anymore.

You probably flashed a 4.0 rom not a bootloader. Those are really different. I really doubt you could have done this if you flashed a bootloader even if the device are really the same as the bootloader is needed to get into download mode. Again, I'm not a professionnal but this is really unlikely to happen.
My 4.0 US player stopped working too. Got a 2 dollar jig off Amazon and went right into download mode. Make sure the jig is correct. And make sure you let you batter sit out of player about 20 seconds first.

[Q] Let There Be Hope Hard Brick

Hello,
Maybe you can shed light on my situation. I was using Resurrection's 4.2.1 ROM on my SGS2 and then some Google processes started to force close. So I went to recovery mode and tried to flash the same ROM over again, but it was not there. Stupidly I went to backup/restore and tried restoring the device. It said something about deleting boot load up (something among those words)? Then my phone just died. I could not turn on the power, recovery mode, download mode or even get the screen on when charging the battery. From my understanding, the processor is not fried, but it just can't boot up. My question to you experts is: Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so can a micro USB jig fix this issue or is this a job for MobileTechVideos and their JTAGing solution?
Hopefully someone has some information on this matter and can let me know what my options are.
Anyhow, I am going to the store early tomorrow to pick up the necessary items to make a USB jig. I will let you know if it works out too.
Thanks in advance. :good:
Jig wont work because of the updated bootloader. It only works with Gingerbread bootloader.
I'm afraid you only hope is give it to someone and let him try to repair the phone with Jtag.
still...try a jig. Can't hurt.

Wrong.
The USB jig works on all bootloaders for putting device into download mode. What doesnt work is resetting the binary counter on ICS+ bootloader.
Your confused or misinformed.
OK. I made a jig and tested it out with my friend's SGS2 and it worked. It put it into download mode no problem. But when I tried it on my phone, it didn't work. I think this phone is toast, or maybe I should send it in to JTAG it. :crying:
jtag it is. Good luck with that.
