Should I change my ROM to CM or should I keep the default one? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to avoid the sudden death because I don't have warranty for this phone (at least not in my country). Also do you think the current default ROM is slow?

I think that samsung roms are slow...they have butter and smoothness but the lags and delays are really annoying.I never tried a cm/aokp/aosp rom on this phone but I think I will.

Sudden death is fixed in the latest Firmwares. If You want an aosp look but full features of stock rom I recommend Sotmax Rom it allows an aosp skin over Samsung framework if selected in aroma. It is also buttery smooth with minimal lags. been using it a while now and the phone is faultless... at least until I smashed my screen anyway lol

this is my problem. Should I keep my custom ROM or not? I am new to my S3, totally.
and some says that Samsung didn't confirm that the latest update fixes sudden death.

They didn't confirm it. But all latest official and custom roms contain the supposed fix so it's completely up to you.

Stablest gingerbread custom rom??

Need help selecting custom rom for galaxy ace for a friend. This is his first android. He bought the phone just thinking it is cool to have an android and for free apps. His phone memory was full first day and is unable to move to card. I convinced him to root and install custom rom. If you suggest the stablest and fastest gingerbread on ace with most features as in stock it would be helpful. I am quite sure that he would not go for an update for next 6months atleast after I install gingerbread on his phone. Thanks in advance.

Any idea when official gingerbread update to ace will be rolled out in India? As I'm sure he wont be using wifi but if sod also happens with Bluetooth then it may be a problem to him. I don't think I'll be around him to fix it for him.

Well. I guess they are all good roms, you should just try them, but since your friend doesnt seem very interested on it, well just chose one randomly (dont know if this phrase is well made, or even that ahaha).
I'm using coderom v2x-2b, and just like someone told you, sod is caused because of wifi. i'm using kph with L modem, and I have no sod at all since... well since i'm using it (2 weeks, maybe more).
All of them offer you almost the same... cf-root, a2sd and ext4 compatibility, etc etc. I use a2sd to put apps on the sd card, even dalvik cache. Now my internal memory keeps between 129-136 mb free (dont know why it changes ahhaa ).
Cheers!

You need to have at least 3 charge cycles before you can experience the difference.
Yes when I first got my s3 the battery was pretty bad compared to iPhone 4. But do the cycles and find a good rom and it's a whole nother world. I suggest read a lot here and watch YouTube vids

Depends on what all you have activated and what all is running in the background. Switch off gps, auto sync, auto sync is the main cause of battery drain, also turn off wifi and 3g data when not in use, standby time on idle should be 1% drain in 2-3 hours as per the latest firmware LG8, im getting full day battery with normal usage with screen time of 4-5 hours...

Your rom is fine... Just use it for couple of days and you will see the difference. By the way, turn off gps if not in use and turn off NFC. Also turn off any gesture you don't use at all.

I have some queries.. Say if i install omega rom, and i want to rma the set, touch wood, Do i use triangleaway first, to rid of the flash counter, and then flash back the stock official samsung firmware? Any steps i need to take other than these steps?
And another question, does omega use a custom kernel to improve battery life?

Going crazy with my new s3

Hello to all guys.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm finding it well with s3.
It would be a GREAT phone, but that really has a problem I can not solve.
With any rom the phone has a lot of lag in animations.
Even with the liquismooth that everyone says is extremely fluid, I do not look good. When I open an application, when I go into settings or anything, I have a lot of lag .. with any rom. The animations are not smooth at all.
Is there a solution?
With ICS, I seemed to have all these lag .. thanks a lot!

I think you are describing stutter in the animations, try 1,0.5,0.5 in developer options/animations, or turn them of altogether is what I did!

So it keeps freezing, what can we do?

A lot of people do experience frequently freezing after the latest update from Samsung. A few send in to repair and some did do their own magic stuff. But so far there isn't any clear solution. I think we ow a explanation from Samsung. This is a well known problem and people all over the world have it. But how can we get Samsung to take care. We didn't pay 600 € for a phone that freezes all the time.
I gues I bring mine in repair tomorrow.

Yup I would fully wipe your device and reinstall the update. This is one of the reasons OTA will always cause an issue.

The last time it dropped was 6 months ago. So I don't think that's the cause. I also resetted my whole phone a few times so an APK can't be the problem either I think. Or the APK must have broken some hardware? Is that possible?
Since the latest update from Samsung I haven't had any problems with it! What I noticed is that when I clear the RAM memory it only closes 10 apps. Before that were 30 apps. Does the update just limit the RAM or does it close less apps?

Then I installed the PHN version from Sammobile and now it only says Samsung Galaxy S3. In recovery it also says Applied multy CSC. Should I get another region code, the one from T-mobile netherlands?
