[Q] USB device not recognised - Nokia Lumia 920

When I plugin my Lumia 920 to a Win8 64bit PC I get an error 'USB device not recognised'. I've tried the following but with no luck:
- Changed the USB cable
- Tried a different USB port including one on the back
- Used a different PC (Win8 32bit & OSX on a MBP)
- Restarted the phone whilst connected
- Checked for Updates with the phone connected (both on phone and PC)
- Removed the 'Upperfilters' registry entry
- Installed the Windows Phone 8 app (both desktop and metro)
- Installed the Nokia PC Suite
- Reinstalled Windows
- Reset the phone (Factory restore)
The phone seems to charge ok via USB but never connects. It doesn't even appear in Device Manager so there's no drivers for me to remove and/or update. The EventLog says 'PnPDriverNotFound'. Anyone got an idea of what could be wrong?
@MrJamesMoore

Is your phone a true Lumia in the respect that it has a factory ROM and is not a developer model or other? Sounds to me like the PC is not able to identify the phone as a Lumia and does not know what it actually is and therefore does not know what driver to load for it.

Hmmm, this is interesting...
U might want to try installing Nokia Care Suit. After instllation complete go to the installation folder, and head to the Drivers directory. U have several drivers there, install everything, and then try to connect it.

Yes that's what I was thinking. It was a promotional phone so maybe it's not a factory ROM? Is there a way to check? I guess more importantly, is there a way to install a factory ROM on it? I'm located in Australia if that matters. Everything else about the phone works great but not being able to transfer my full res videos off it is a pain.
Thanks for the reply!

That didn't work either but thanks for the suggestion. Even with all the drivers installed the PC (and Care Suite) still can't see the phone; still get the USB not recognised error
Without being able to connect in anyway I guess it's impossible to flash the phone any put another ROM on?

Hmmpfff...
It is not a developer phone because they didn't have GSM radio in them, WiFi only. So that is out of the question.
I have one more suggestion, and if that fails, I would suggest u go to Nokia directly and ask what to do, maybe even a replacement.
So, try to find some1 with Win7 on his/her PC, and try to connect the phone. If that goes as it should,u can install win7 on ur PC and have a dual boot machine.
To check the info about ur phone u would have to connect it to Nokia Care Suit, however, that is not an option ATM.

[Q] ActiveSync doesn't work anymore

Sounds like USB port is broken.
Hi all,
I've read a couple of threads for several days now, but none of the answers worked for me.
Problem is: I can connect from my HD2 to my desktop PC (win 7) initially, but when I try to install a new ROM (3.14.407_2), my HD2 restarts, shows the four colour screen and nothing more happens. After some minutes, my PC tells me that my phone isn't connected anymore.
It worked two months ago for the last ROM flash, but now nothing helps.
Tried:
- rebooting PPC and PC several times
- deleting partnership and setting up a new one
- disabling "faster connect" for usb to PC settings - afterwards, PC doesn't recognize any connection at all
- hard reset on PPC
I have no idea what to try next.. I wanted to install HSPL2 and flash the ROM from my SD card, but can't install HSPL2 ... same problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Infyrana
I also tried several USB ports on my PC
You think the HD2 USB port is broken? But I was able to transfer data when connected as normal device without active sync.
Do I have any chance to check, whether you are right, without having to send my phone to HTC?
maybe running the update in compatibility mode will help?
I thought the microsoft mobile device center (or however it is called) was made for win7, as the actual activeSync tool cannot be used?
So I can't see a benefit from this, but anyway.. I will try.
You could try using BlueTooth with ActiveSync, thats what I do. I have a "micro" bluetooth adaptor for my laptop and it all works fine... just a bit slower.

the compatibility mode for the ROM update file could help becasuse it is a separate application (no guarantee though as I have no way to check it on my PC)
compatibility mode didn't help.
don't have a bluetooth stick ...
no further suggestions?
Just found out, that windows tries to install driver "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" when I connect my HD2 after starting bootloader.
But it just searches and doesn't find anything. I searched by myself, but didn't find the driver anywhere ...
if you are really determined to update ROM, find the thread on ROM 3.14 here on xda forum, I recall seeing guidelines on installing ROM from SD Card
of course it will not solve your sync problem, but still...
Yah ... I wanted to install HSPL2 to be able to do install the ROM from the SD card (at least that's what I understood - that I need that first), but I can't install it, as I already wrote.
I GOT IT!!!
Finally.. in a forum somewhere in a forgotten corner of the internet.. someone gave an advice to uninstall the windows mobile device center and reinstall it.
After uninstalling, I had some trouble to find it again, but finally got it.
And guess what: it works now.
Windows managed to install the quadcomm driver and I could update my ROM.
Never had such a hard challenge with my HD2.
Thanks everyone who tried to help!

[Q] HTC 7 Mozart T8698 not recognized by W7 device manager

May be one of the experts of XDA-developers can solve this strange problem.
I bought a HTC 7 Mozart with T-Mobile branding in Germany, used it with another SIM card. I have a Windows 7 (32 bit) computer where Zune is installed. The connection with Zune was workding fine.
Then I flashed my phone with the 'Official HTC Europe 1.30.401.01_5.54.09.21_22.33b.50 ROM'. The phone is working fine, but it does not get recognized by the Windows device manager & Zune. So I carried out the following steps:
- formatted & reinstalled Windows 7
- installed Zune
- carried out ALL Updates in Windows & Zune till date
- flashed Mozart again, carried out hard reset
I guess, there's nothing more that one can do to start afresh. But still my computer & zune continue to refuse to recognize my HTC 7 Mozart (see attached screenshots).
This is what is displayed on my mobile right now:
Name: HTC 7 Mozart T8698
OS version: 7.0.7389.0
Firmware version: 2250.09.13001.401
Does anyone have the slightest clue, what went wrong? Is the ROM corrupted? Is some important element missing in the ROM? Is it possible to get a seperate driver file for Mozart (Zune.inf has proved useless so far)?
Thanks in advance
P.S.: In the meantime I tried the following:
- I flashed the phone again with an older ROM (RUU_Mozart_HTC_Europe_1.26.401.03_5.51.09.06_22.3 0.50_RELEASE). But the computer still cannot recognize Mozart.
- I also tried to use the WPSupportTool both under the old & the new ROM. Mozart WAS RECOGNIZED(!) in the USB connection mode in both the cases. The driver was loaded. Even Zune recognized it and popped up. The entry 'PD67199' could be seen in the Device manager. The tool itself could not do its updating job in both cases. Even after a restart the phone remained unrecognized in both cases.
update zune?
Thanks for your reply.
Well, as I have already mentioned I have already updated Zune. Zune & Windows are up to date. I forgot to mention that I had switched off the firewall as well just in case it was blocking the connection.
Is the windows mobile device update installed in installed programs?
Sent from my CorvusVegaRom_0.5 using Tapatalk
Still no progress
As my windows mobile device (Mozart) was not recognized at all, there is obviously no update installed in installed programs as well. In case you mean the Windows Mobile Device Center it seems to be up to date (Version 6.1.6965).
As I mentioned in my post, I tried to use the Windows Phone Support Tool as well. I have now attached the screenshots. As you can see while looking for the driver the computer recognizes the device to be 'Windows Mobile' and after recognizing it is listed as 'PD67100'. The Tool itself failed to update anything. Zune kind of recognized the phone but as the phone was not in a normal mode.
I still hope that someone out there is competent enough to identify the problem based on my detailed report and all the screenshots.
Still having an issue with this?
You definetely do not need the Windows Mobile Device Center.
Can you give it a shot after you uninstalled your wifi modems drivers?
Still no progress
Thanks for all the suggestions, but my situation is so hopeless that not even Microsoft or other 'experts' could help.
- I tried everything all over again with a brand new HTC data cable
- I tried uninstalling the wifi driver
But nothing works. I wish someone could just send me the 'top secret' driver file of Mozart. 'Zune.inf' has not helped so far. Or does someone have a 'magic' Zune.inf file? ;-)
Sorry i gave up 32-bit windows back in 2004 .
Can you go back to the original carriers ROM and give it another go?
solution ALMOST found
Well, after weeks of research & trial with different ROMs I think I have narrowed down the possibilities.
The problem seems to be the Zune/Windows LIVE account. Once you have used a device with Zune, it remains listed with both Zune & Windows LIVE account (check: setting > account > computers & devices as well as in devices.live.com).
Now one can add/delete upto 5 NEW devices every 30 days to the Zune account. In my case I already had 'HTC Mozart T8698' listed in Zune. If I had renamed the device BEFORE flashing the problem probably could have been avoided. After the update/flashing it is not being recognized at all probably because the name remains the same. But according to my Zune I can use a 'NEW' telephone on 25.05.2011. (See screenshot)
Now I have clicked the REMOVE button several times, but the device is not yet removed from the list. So I am not sure whether this means it will be removed only on 23.05.2011. In case I manage to remove it I will try out the connection on that date.
Does anybody have any idea on how to remove my device now? Or any other tricks to solve the problem?

Hi,

Europe ROM
Dear Ansar,
It's wonderful to finally hear from YOU. Now I feel a solution can be found.
Yes, I did flash the European version provided by you (OS version 7.0.7389.0, Firmware: 2250.09.13001.401). Earlier I had the T-Mobile-Germany original ROM and had no problem connecting to computer & Zune.
In the meantime I tried out many other ROMs also provided by you but the device is not getting recognized by either Windows or Zune. My Zune account (setting) is showing my device from the earlier usage (HTC 7 Mozart T8698) so I guess that might be causing some conflict - as the device name remains same even after flashing.
I hope you can come up with some tricks to solve the problem. Thanks again for personally looking into the matter.

Hi,
If it was not recognized by windows then no new ROM flash will be performed
Can you try to connect to any available usb hub in your pc and see if zune can see it?

Hi Ansar,
Thanks for the quick reply. Well, I also tried out all the USB ports (Laptop: 3, Desktop: 6). Now I just tried out an external USB hub after seeing your message. But unfortunately that did not work as well.
I didn't quite understand what you mean by ...then no new ROM flash will be performed. Should I stop trying out any other ROM?

Hi,
Your phone is recognized by windows drivers and you can flash ROMs using ROMUpdateUtility (not goldcard)
I thing you should flash again one of TMO_DE 1.23.111.01 or 1.25.111.02 or 1.28.111.03 ROMs
If so let me know the results before trying anything else
Regards, ansar
Hi Ansar,
Thanks again for your efforts. Just now I flashed TMO-DE 1.28.111.03 ROM, unistalled & reinstalled Zune (ran TuneUp utilities to clean registry in between). I logged in to Windows LIVE both in Zune & Phone.
Unfortunately the results are the same - i.e. the phone is still not recognized by the computer & Zune. Could you please send me the links to the other 2 ROM versions so that I can try out these as well?
Thanks & regards

Hi,
Since the pro is there after flashing the ROM, no other ROM can fix it
You should check with another phone of a friend of yours in your PC or check your phone in your friend PC
I think that the pro is probably in your PC operating system drivers with minor possibility to the phone hardware
Some times hard reset of the phone before flashing and then battery replacement can be of good help
Also be sure that immediately after a flash you remove usb cable, connect again and listen for the characteristic sound of connection
If this is ok then installed drivers are the problem

Or try to enable USB debugging in Developer options

Hi,
It happened with me too, and there is nothing wrong with the device, its fine.
My friend told me this,
update your Kies software to the latest version, then close the Kies. i mean the kies application should not be running.
Then connect the device and wait for sometime, till the message appears -- MTP connected.
Then open the Kies application, and let the Kies to identify the device.
If it says some error, like device not recognized, then there is an option to debug the connectivity.
Try that option too.
It'll connect surely, but you should be patient.
I think, its the problem with Kies software. I use it only to update the Android firmware. But now, I'm on Custom ROM, so this Kies is no more required for me.

Correct. Even without Samsung USB drivers installed your PC (I guess running Windows) should show a reaction. At least the PC should report an unknown device.
Maybe you should try installing the drivers manually? Not sure if it's gonna help but might as well try, right?
If that doesn't work either maybe you should try contacting the one you got the phone from. Maybe there's something wrong with the particular device.

OK, one last option. Can a Faulty ROM instillation cause the device not to connect to my PC?
Other than that I guess I should get a replacement for my device.

[Q] HTC TITAN the problem of detecting

Hi, first of all I would like to apologize for my English.
After installing this ROM dynamics7 2.0 ZUNE longer detect my phone. I tried to reset the phone but it did not work. The USB cable is definitely good because he installed the ROM.
I tried different roms but it did not work. Trying on another computer or do not give. The phone is not detected by the Zune. mistake can be seen in the computer drivers. the system can not retrieve them. I will add that the installation of Roma do not have any problems.
What could it be?

It's not that but thanks. Loading a bootloader mode by rom without any problem.
Zune does not detect my phone when connected nothing happens. I'm only in device manager two errors:
1.The Windows has stopped this device because of the reported problems. (Code 43)
2.driver this device are not installed. (Code 28)

Please help because I do not know what to do with this phone.
I think that when I go into a different mode vol-+ power zune starts but displays an error (the device can not be restored to a previous version)
Of course, before installing custom roms I did not have this problem.

I've inserted a correction here...I restarted by device in bootloader mode and plugged it into my laptop; Zune did not start; however, the letters "USB" do appear in the center-bottom. Rest of post remains the same...You may view your device from your PC's File/Windows Explorer by changing 3 zune driver entries via your PC registry editor and when the device is on wi-fi, you may also view other folders that are on your windows phone. My PC is running Windows 8 Professional. It is important to check if your computer and its drivers are compatible with what you're attempting to do. I don't use Zune for my multi-media copying to and from my device. I use the professional version of Windows for it's easier compatibility such was WMDC 64-bit. I don't pretend to know whether I get, don't get, have or do not have your problem; what I do know is leave no stone unturned; double check everything on your PC for compatibility...are all your drivers updated for example. I have an older 32-bit Dell Inspiron E-1505 I upgraded to 4 GB RAM and upgraded it from XP to Windows 7 Enterprise Edition (not Home Premium) and from time to time whether it was my device or my Win 8 PC; sometimes they wouldn't play nice, thus I have the same setup on my Win 7 machine and if that didn't work; pull out my Hiren's Boot Mini XP Thumb drive and enjoy some old school computing; maybe I don't get it, where I'm from, we call it Plan B...improvise!

I'm running Windows 8 Pro on my desktop; both WMDC and Zune will run when I plug my Titan into the laptop; by that I mean I'm at my Start Menu and Tiles; not Bootloader or USB Host Mode. I know that because the HTC Titan appears twice in my File Explorer on my laptop. Though my device is HSPL, I did restart my device in bootloader mode and plugged it into my laptop; it did not start Zune but it did read USB center-bottom. I may in due time get me another Titan I to play with but there's no way I'm risking my device to any further experimentation now that she's unlocked all the way and running 7.8 and runs as smooth as a baby's butt.

I've never used the Dynamic ROMs but I can't stand using Zune so I tweaked my registry to make my Titan visible via Windows/File Explorer, I'm curious as to whether any of you with this problem can connect your devices to the developer tools with Windows Phone 7.x for side loading apps.

[Q] Mouting issues (MTP)

Hi guys!
I have a rooted international Galaxy S3 (i9300) phone with a custom rom: UltimaRom (version 8.x), and using XXELLA kernel (?) and XXELLA Modem version.
Since a while, I'm trying to manage the files in it (phone memory or sd card) from my computer, simply by using an USB cable (the one given with the phone or even other cables, it doesn't matter) and the standard MTP protocol, which is used by Google since Android 3.0. And, whatever I try to do, Windows doesn't seem to notice anything. In my device manager, nothing appears. Nothing either in the "My Computer" window, it just doesn't "exist". No reaction at all from Windows. The Phone's charging, but this is all it is.
And I have the same problem using another computer (like my own laptop, or my brother's one). All computers are running Windows 8 x64 Pro.
I tried to install, re install, delete, etc. all the phone drivers I have on this computer, tried to install Samsung Kies, tried some "mounting" apps on the Play Store, nothing's working.
What should I do to make it work?
Thanks a lot!
Might be stating the obvious but is your phone set at usb debugging? I have the same issue from time to time but when I unplug and plug back it fixes itself.
Hope you get your stuff fixed soon.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for your response.
Yes, USB Debugging is enabled.

That's odd.. I use Ultima ROM and have updated to 8.1.1. I just checked just to make sure (my last update was done OTA) and yeah, computer recognized phone right away.. heard a little computer sound and everything. I am also running Windows 8
The base changed in v8. If you haven't done a fac reset since then you should try that.
Ok I just tried to make a factory reset, nothing changes...
Oh, and if that can help: when the phone's booting, Windows says "Unrecognized device". When it's booted up, it disapears.
Anyone ?
Drivers...
I used these drivers.
It worked for me...

Does Easy UMS work?
Can you connect via adb?
Does Odin recognize the phone?
If no to all of the above, try a different cable / port

Thank you for your response !
- Easy UMS doesn't seem to work, even if the app doesn't show any error on the phone
- How do I connect via ADB ? I tried to connect the phone while it is in Download Mode, nothing appears on Windows or Odin
- As I said, in Download Mode, Odin doesn't seems to recognize anything...
And of course, I already tried to change the cable, the USB port, or even the computer i'm connecting the phone to...
Thanks again for your help
Starting to sound like a damaged micro USB port on the phone possibly, or a driver's problem
Oh, and there's a thing: when I reboot the phone, while the Samsung logo appears on the screen with the short jingle, the PC makes 3 or 4 times a sound like something has been plugged, and showes a "Unrecognized device" warning window. When the boot is finished, and the rom is loaded, everything just disappears and no sound is any longer made by the PC.
Also, please note that when I connect the phone to the PC (using the same PC, cable and USB port of course), the phone charges up just like before, without any problem.
have you tried the old drivers?
search Google for " Samsung USB drivers 1.4.6.0 "
disconnect your computer from the internet
Install the drivers.
don't reconnect to the internet.
connect your phone and let windows find the drivers
