DISCONTINUED [Kernel/ICS] KERNEL with OTG Support, Need Testers - HTC Desire X

Guys, as title says, i'm trying to add otg support in kernel, please flash and use some otg device and confirm whether it works or not.
Dont have time to add proper content, so just note some points:
1. Its for ICS ROMS
2. It might not work
3. Please test with cable and USB Host Diagnostic app from Play Store
4. It might not work
Its built on my neXusKernelv1 so expect the performance and other features to stay intact.

ok, then 2 suggessions,
1. Try with Stock rom.
2. Try using external power source.
I'll try another build tonight. Maybe we need to add something to build.prop and ramdisk also. I'll workk on it.

1. Also not working on stock rom.
2. I don't have usb hub with power source. Or do you mean something else?

I am refering to what the guy above you said.
Actually, the things is, i dont have OTG cable, and i have never used it either. I saw in kernel config that it is configurable, so i want to enable it for those who want it. For that, i will need a dedicated tester to test each release that i make. I will modify some build.prop entries tonight to make it work. Any one willing to spare time for above mentioned thing, please PM me.

Guys, Try this app and give me its reports.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802740

It said that i have not support for storage...(i don't know how it looks in original, because I use russian lang. ) I guess, it's mean that kernel does still not provide OTG. на конце палкиBy the way, Sense.Revolution+R1 JB thinks that it phone is on charging when i connecting OTG cable without USB device on the end. Maybe it helps somehow... =))

2 Questions:
What the hell mean otg ?
and why for ics ? i guess now many users use jb.

Usb otg= usb on-the-go. It means that you may connect usb devices(mouse, keyboard, usb flash memory, hard disk etc) to your phone. So you can control your phone using mouse and keyboard, and browse files and folders in your usb memory.

OTG might be a bit more tricky. Im researching on it a bit more.
Anyways, otg or no otg, this thread can be continuation of my neXusKernel. I will be basing future builds on v1 becoz v2 and v3 generally got bad reviews.
Atis112 made some updates on the clock rates of ICS kernel so i will release a build in a few hours.
Upcoming:
neXusKernel-v4

Feature requests are welcome, but you'll have to help me find stuff.

Yes,i didn't finish it because i stopped all ics projects when jb was here, and im waiting for jb kernel sources now.

does not work for me too
I am on skydragon 2.2
I used an adapter, not sure if it can work that way
will give it a try with a different ROM later today

If i take a look at the Snapdragon specs here:
http://www.qualcomm.com/sites/default/files/common/products-services/snapdragon_specs_9-12.pdf
then i see that the S4 pro/plus specifically include OTG support.
On the other hand, our S4 play indicates 'USB 2.0 HS Peripheral or Host'.
This seems to indicate that it does not support the OTG protocol (which includes a little bit more than just working as usb-host, like automatically figuring out which role to use).
But it also seems that it should be able to work as a USB host. The question remains whether you can select this mode via the kernel or that it is hardwired in the circuitry.

OTG works fine on DX with JB rom. It's mean, that DX is able to support USB-host. May be just need JB sources for porting this feature on ISC?

I think we never will get the JB sources -.-, but maybe we can port it later. Now i s*ck with HW v-sync support. If i can include it to ics kernel sources, people will be able to use official JB with all hboot, and without /system write protection. If it's ready, i will check otg support too

No, not working for me...... I even tried to connect pen drives to ONE X, but no go.
Not currently. USB OTG needs support ROM and kernel side. AFAIK, ICS has support built in. but I'm not sure if it needs to be enabled via kernel, or what. I really hope it comes through after we get source though.

I vote for AOSP maybe the CM9 will be more hard to fix all that bugs and it's so much better start in 0
Good idea Fera!!!
also benjamin (scritch007) helped me a lot with 32kernel and actually we are doing it together...anyway , soon I'm gonna push the sources to github so we all could work on it...we hope to get it work perfectly but as fera said there is some limitations...
I think cm9.1 base would be a more clean, just released from google looking experience. And with you all the others working hard to accomplish x10 rebirth things should go well (If unwanted I'll delete this comment)

if there is stuff that i can do to help in anyway once i recive my x10 my machine is good enough to compile roms and kernel leeme know :0 goodluck amin, scrticht and fera! maybe we could get some jelly flowing through our x10s
Don't wont to spam this thread but there is one more thing that is missing in CM9.
Its implementation of DASH sensor, especially light sensor, which might have great influence on battery.
Sensor in SE Stock ROM causes:
- increasing backlight (and power consumption) while phone is in intense light (sun) - which improves usability
- decreasing baclight (and power consumption as well) while in low light.
I know that J has some problems with finding a file for light sensor maybe U'll find it out
Sony released DASH sensors libs as open source but I'm not sure if its for 2010 xperia line http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...l-dash-developers-can-contribute-open-source/
Created new thread for CM9.1 based rom with fixes that Fera is talking about. The Hardware Video decoders video patch, I couldn't find one define, don't know where it comes from TARGET8x50.
Regarding the .32 kernel KTG based. I managed to get a booting kernel, when removing kgsl. But no camera, no charger (which can be annoying after a day of use ).
When activating the kgsl I had a blinking screen, and after a while it would reboot. And I would have to struggle flashing back a working kernel.
For info you can check my sources. The merge_fxp branch here
I would like to help, i have a pretty fast machine to copmpile but very slow internet (512/128).
I just have a small idea for the one like me that want to help.
Could it be possible for someone who already compiled a CM9 to build a VMWare VM with already all the needed stuff installed.
The linux version, SDK, make and build tools and a checkout of the CM9.
Then someone that want to help will just need to sync the repo and build.
What do you think of this ?
Best regards,
U.
ok firstly my two cents here
1. i have a access to goo.im build servers so i can make builds without any problem
2. we should maintain common repository for all this stuff (i think scritchz's repository for device tree is best, and Fera's kernel tree should be ok)
3. from the beginning we need to focus on 'fixing' rather than 'adding' GOLDEN RULE : fix stuff that is not working before adding tons of features to kernel and rom.
4. please no 'thank you for this' posts. someone please get in touch with original_ganjaman and get ensured that this remains dev-thread. i understand all feelings, but it becomes difficult to find necessary info there are posts that have nothing to do with development. if you want to chat come the General CHat thread and i will chat with you all day but not here please.
5. Linaro : forget it for now. let's just be able to build it. Linaro does not make ROM 500% faster or anything. i have used linaro and non linaro compilations for Xperia S. trust me nothing makes a difference.
6. kernel : focus on .29, .32 is not fully working yet. we will just upgrade parts and backport stuff from new kernels as and when needed.
right now one stuff that needs be done importantly is inline kernel and wifi building. (it's not good using prebuilts, because inline method will allow us getting changes merged to kernel at every ROM release. )
see this https://github.com/freexperia/vendor_atheros_wlan is the wlan driver released with X10 latest kernel source
this file https://github.com/freexperia/vendor_atheros_wlan/blob/master/Android.mk is compatible with GB build system
if you compile GB you'll see it builds, but when you go to ICS it fails because PRODUCT_COPY_FILES is depreacted.
we need a newer ar6002 wifi source that will enable hotspot. (because right now we use prebuilt libs so we use AWEXT in wifi_supplicant so it's not hotspot compatible)
and yeah we need to work with CM... it's the easisest to continue working with.

Yes sources are based on KTG.
One thing you should look at before anything is a definition
kernel-2.6.32.9/include/linux/msm_mdp.h
in struct mdp_img
remove uint32_t priv;
https://github.com/skritchz/KTG-Kernel_es209ra/commit/36c84cfc82e0f6092b4224f225edfe29619c8d0f
The mdp_blit request used by the Rom doesn't have this field, so it mixes every thing after this. This was leading to a "mdp_ppp src img size of zero" message in the kernel
You'll see in the code that there is still kgsl definitions, in fact I got into a bug when porting FXP sources, which made the rom boot . if you want to enable kgsl, you have to remove some lines in board_es209ra.c
line 2331 comment the whole following block
size = gpu_phys_size;
if (size) {
addr = alloc_bootmem(size);
kgsl_3d0_resources[1].start = __pa(addr);
kgsl_3d0_resources[1].end = kgsl_3d0_resources[1].start + size - 1;
pr_info("allocating %lu bytes at %p (%lx physical) for "
"KGSL\n", size, addr, __pa(addr));
}
That will enable kgsl but the rom won't boot.
thanks man.. i got it.. but without kgsl..its bad right.. so i think i will try to dig into board config..
and few words about linaro..yeah.. i didnt see much difference in kernel..at least..thought it will make some sence for rom compiling..at least everybody was saying about that..

Actually for the use I've done of the rom, i don't feel that much a difference without kgsl, but I haven't try using games and stuff like that. The real main issue was the charger . Since flashing really take some battery I had to go back to current kernel really quickly.
Regarding linaro, don't know much about real improvement on our current rom.

Two ways of doing things.
1) Find in the kernel what causes the issue.
2) In the CM rom, do not call make kernel call when Bluetooth is disable. (Easier to do, but I would rather find the reason for the WLOD).
Don't worry we'll have the air plane mode working eventually. (When it depends on other dev and or when I'll be done with exif stuff on the camera)

[Q] Thinking About Rom Development..

I don't know if i've posted this in the right section, but at times on and off i've thought about doing rom development. When I had a Nexus S 4G I made the attempt of being the first to compile ICS from source for that phone. This phone needs roms, I also can't afford to switch phones. I don't know alot about development, but where could I start so I can begin to learn how to build roms? How difficult would it be to get a rom compiled for this phone that'll boot, being that it has a locked bootloader? If someone can help me so I can at least try to do some type of development for this device. I have to flash some type of custom rom on this phone, lol.
imo the best is a port of cyanogenmod with sources of phones similar to optimus l9 and for sure versions like 4.1 ++
this version of android excisting in optimus l9 ics is working fine. it would be nice porting of newer versions.
Finally someone...first.

Glad and happy to see someone (first one) a developer is willing to work on Source Codes. May be for you only I did collected all the resources.

I'll start after I get a new ethernet cable for my computer, Ubuntu doesn't work well with my wifi usb adapter. Works fine in Windows and was working ok in Linux Mint, abeit kinda slow. I may have to ask someone for help or for guidance, but i'll try to do something. Better than complaining about no roms but not doing anything to help bring one. I don't know how difficult it would be but I was thinking about building JB from source for this phone?

[Q] Stock Kernel + CM10.1?

Hey everyone,
first let me thank you for this forum, especially thanks to all the developers. I've been using ROMs, apps and information from this site for ages!
I'm using a SGS2 with Chameleon 3.0.3 and its kernel. For work (I'm a teacher) I need the ability to plug the phone to a beamer with my MHL adapter. That's why I'm using Chameleon since it is built on stock. Everything is working fine so far.
However, I'd really like to go back to CM, I've used it for all my previous phones and really loved it. Is there any way I can use CM10.1 but keep a stock kernel? I've already tried using PhilZ kernel with CM, but the MHL adapter didn't work.
Has anyone managed to get the MHL port working on any CM version?
Would be great if anyone could help. Thanks in advance!

MHL is not working on CM,nor on any AOKP,AOSP based ROM.The sources of Samsung are closed,so nobody can port it to other ROMs.But here is a tip.Look at my signature.I'm using JellyBam ROM and Chameleon ROM at the same time with Dual Booting via Dori kernel.I use Chameleon only for MHL,and it's working. And BTW,kernel has nothing to do with the MHL.

Thanks for your answer! Sounds like a good idea. I've never used dualboot before, but I'll give it a try.
Do both ROMs share personal stuff? Or do you just turn off sync in one of them? I think I don't want to install two ROMs with all the apps and settings. Just a plain Chameleon would be enough for using it with MHL once in a while.

[Q] Xperia Pro issue - mounting external sd best kernel + rom

Hi guys,
sorry for cross-posting (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-neo/help/xperia-pro-issue-mount-sd-ext-t2826503) but
my phone is becoming unstable because of very low free space/memory available
and did not receive answers.
Thank you very much!
Hi eXperts,
last month I flashed the great Ultimate HD rom, so stable and now my wonderful Xperia pro is much faster
Before to do that anyway I used Mount2SD app to get my external sd mounted and solve, in this way,
common issue about "memory unavailable" and similars when I tried to add or update an app.
Now , Mount2SD is no more working, with no log entries, even if detailed debug verbose is enabled; first
I was thinking there is issue with Init.d support... But it sounds strange because before UHD I used the original stock rom by sony,
rooted of course, and furthermore I checked with a tool (embedded inside universal Init.d) and it shows me that Init.d support
is green and working....
So, looking beyond, my question is how to definitively solve this issue, changing kernel or something else
and give my phone support to mounting external sd native. Which kernel may I flash ? Working together with UHD?
Fast?
My phone is mk16i and must keep physical keyboard working, cwm, rooted.
Will this operation break my current configuration in terms of installed apps and so on?
My Xperia pro is unlocked bootloader.
Thank you very much in advance!!

1. Try flashing stock GB/ICS
2. Try using a different sd card
That's basically all you can do. If you're doing everything right (flashing and wiping accordingly) and it still doesn't work, it's definitely a hardware problem. Then you'll need to pin point what is causing the problem. As I recall you said that your sd card works properly? Can you can copy/move stuff from and to it, view all the media you have on it without problems?

Hi Grof,
flashing stock GB/ICS does not help. I use stock kernel since the beginning... and no stock kernel
is able to mount sd-ext file system in order to use sd as a natural extension of internal memory.
As I wrote in the beginning I already reached out result I want, using Mount2Sd with stock kernel but now
I want to solve with a new full featured and modded kernel that embeds useful functionality just like CWM and
of course internal memory extension using sd-ext filesystem..
That's the point.
My sd card is perfect, nothing to complain and working like a charm! I "only" need the first part.

If I get what you are saying, you just want someone to recommend you a custom kernel that has sd-ext support? Have you tried the latest LX CM11 ROM and kernel? Almost all custom kernels support ext4, it's just a matter of preference.
Sorry if I missed your point, hope I haven't misunderstood you.

Great! That's the point :good:
Now, I did not try LX CM11 ROM because I did not know which was the best ROM and Kernel for my mk16i and so
reading different threads I decided to install Ultimate HD ROM.
That's a good ROM but I did not know which kernel associate because it was not indicated in its dedicated thread
and furthermore, mk16i is a really specific smartphone with physical keyboard so I did not want to loose some important feature.
I will try to look at LX CM11 ROM but are you able to suggest a good kernel for my current ROM ?
I am honest, if possible I would not want to install all apps from the beginning... but if the reward is sensible, well I will do!
Thanks

Asking for and suggesting best kernel/ROM is not allowed on xda.

You'll just have to test them out yourself. You should check UHD ROM thread to see which kernels are compatible with that ROM. All CM ROMs have kernels inside the zip (boot.img). Hope you'll find what you are looking for!

Hi, I know the rules.
I am asking if you can help me understand which ROM is ready for UHD cause, of course, I already read the post and found
different suggestions but regarding other models. That's the point, because Xperia Pro is a particular phone with physical keyboard for e.g.
and also looking at different kernels inside its dedicated thread I was not able to understand which kernel is already developed
and patched on ICS and there is features matrix.
Finally I need to know if, installing selected kernel, I will loose something or not
I am not interested and I am not asking "which is the best rom for my phone ?"
Bye
