[Q] S-View case & Bluetooth calling - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

So I just picked up a GS4 VZW version late last week and overall it's been a good experience (coming from Droid X2) but for the life of me I cannot get outbound hands-free calling via Bluetooth to work properly. I think I narrowed down the problem to the S-View case being the culprit. I have a GOgroove Flexsmart X2 adapter in my car and with my previous phone it worked flawlessly. If my S-View case is closed, not matter what I do I cannot initiate an outbound hands-free call. I've tried S Voice and Google Now/Voice Search. I even disabled S Voice so Google Now/Voice Search would be the default. Incoming calls seem to work but outbound is a no-go. The only security I have set is "swipe to unlock" - no patterns or pins, etc. I've tried Car Mode both on and off and the result is the same with S Voice; Google Now/Voice Search is configured to use Bluetooth as well.
Can someone with an S-View case let me know if you are able to initiate an outbound call with the case closed? If so, I'd like to understand your settings to see if I can get it working and which voice app you are successfully using.
Also, has anyone tried Robin, the Siri Challenger with the GS4 (and the S-View case)? Is it as good as everyone says?
Thanks in advance for the help!

I have an S-View case and am experiencing the same results. If I press the call button on my Bluetooth with the case closed, the only thing that happens is the default S-view notification screen shows up for a few seconds. No S Voice, no Google Now. Very frustrating. It makes me not even want to use this case!

Well at least it is confirmed. I'll reach out to Samsung to see if they can help. Maybe a s/w update will fix the issue. So basically I have to remember to leave the case open when in the car and hope it will work... How does crap like this get past quality control and testing?

So after an online chat and a telephone call to multiple departments @ Samsung, no one is aware and therefore not acknowledging there is an issue as I have described it. I was told to return the case and try another. While I will do just that, I am apprehensive that it will fix the issue. I have sent a very detailed email to their customer relations department and if I hear anything back I'll update everyone further.
In the meantime however, I hope others read this and will come forward and let me know if your S-View case inhibits voice-activated dialing using S Voice &/or Google Now when closed via Bluetooth. If you are having this issue, please also post which carrier model of the S4 you have.
Thanks.

I have a different issue altogether, -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2304828
However, Samsung has completely stonewalled me, despite going through extensive troubleshooting and doesn't want to log the problem. Good luck getting this issue resolved and documented on their end... I haven't been able to do so with mine! If I had an S-View case I'd test for you, but I don't. Try documenting with Verizon as well.

I posted a 1-star review on Samsung's website under the Black S-View case and also replied to another enduser comment posted there similarly under Community Q&A however neither one is showing yet on their respective pages. I'm not sure if Samsung is withholding it or if it just takes a while to appear. I did my phone upgrades @ Best Buy so I'm going to post negative reviews there and @ Verizon Wireless as well under the S-View case.

I have the same exact issue and I just figured it out because I bought a pair of LG Tone+ (which i suggest people look at if they need a bluetooth) but it really sticks I cant use all the functions because of the S-View Case....I was hoping there was some kind of setting but I guess not...Please update if anyone gets this working

I opened a case with Verizon and supposedly they are investigating with Samsung but I have not heard anything in about a week. I was at the end of my return period w Bestbuy so I had to return it. Sadly I'm seeing more of those types of cases by other vendors but am apprehensive to purchase one because Samsung hasn't even acknowledged there is an issue. Sadly I loved that case but since it went back I ordered a special deal from Spigen - their thin armor case along with the glass protector for like 50% off. Hopefully I will like it.
If I hear back from either Samsung or Verizon I'll update the thread.

I was really enjoying the Sview case until I couldn't make calls with bluetooth. Does anyone actually put this stuff through real world testing before releasing??

I wound up returning mine for exactly that very same reason. I called Samsung and it went nowhere. Complained to Verizon and they said they'd look into it but it never went anywhere either. Sucks.

Is there a workaround for the Samsung case/ voice search issue?
Hi Guys,
This is CRAZY! I have tried both the Samsung S-View and Flip Wallet cases with my Note 3, and neither allow me to use S-Voice when the case cover is closed. "Hi Galaxy" goes unanswered.
Also using a Bluetooth headset, the call button will only bring up the S-Voice prompt if the case is open. This is absurd. Does Samsung expect that no one will want to make a call with the phone in their pocket?
Does anyone have a workaround for this? Someone must have an app that allows S-Voice or Google Now to answer a Bluetooth/Voice request when the case cover is closed.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

Sad this issue was never addressed. Makes no sense!

same problem
I am experiencing the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S4 mini (I9192). When the cover is closed I cannot use voice commands at all (which, I believe, has nothing to do with the S Voice app). It makes no difference if my handsfree is plugged in or not:
- I cannot answer / reject calls using vocal commands
- I cannot use voice commands with the music player (like "play" "next" "previous" etc).
And, of course, I cannot use S Voice. If I press the handsfree button that is supposed to start S Voice, while my S view cover is closed, the cover's display lights up but there is no "beep" signal that one usually hears when S Voice is turned on. However, if i open up the cover, S Voice is right there waiting for me to speak, so the handsfree button does his job but S Voice can't hear what i'm saying when the cover is closed.
I contacted Samsung and I am waiting for a response. I will let you know what that is as soon as I receive one.

answer from Samsung
*Dear Stefan,*Thank you for contacting Samsung Telecommunications America.*After reviewing your email, we understand that you are unable to use the voice commands on your Galaxy S4 mini device when the the S view cover is closed.*We understand your concern. We know how important it is to fix the issue. We would like to inform you that voice commands will work on the phone when the screen is unlocked.*When S view cover is closed, the device screen will be locked and voice commands won’t work unless you open the S view cover.*Thank you for the feedback and we value as a customer. There might be an enhancement on the device in future. As of now, there are no configuration settings on the device to use the voice commands when the S view cover is closed [...]

For the hell of it decided to do an online chat w/Samsung and the CSR stated there is no issue Technical Support is aware of regarding this issue. A total crock. I know it's a web-chat CSR so I expected nothing more, however I thought I'd share my results just the same. Serenity Now!
But wait, there's more...
Then he back-pedaled stating hands-free is not supported when the case is closed, that it is a default and unchangeable setting.
Marvelous! Just frickin' Marvelous!

Heh. I'm sure it works quite well as a bluetooth device. Now the trick is to convince people that you're not just talking to your pen!

Yeah right, I'm from NY everybody here talks into their pens, lol..
I had a sony ericsson BT headset that had a small LCD for caller ID.. i don't know why Samsung didn't put a LCD on this badboy there is clearly room for it.. It would just make it more functional and makes total sense.. when the phone rings i must look @ the tablet and decide if i want to take the call or not.. With an LCD on the BT headset all we would have to do is pick up the BT headset and we could see who is calling and decide take the call or decline it.. we are on the cutting edge fellas.. the cutting edge..

I think I have mentioned this before, but I think the ultimate would be not only to incorporate a small LCD/OLED for things like caller ID, but also to include a 3.5mm jack on the top for external earphones if you wanted, as well as playback controls, with track info on the display. Then, as if that weren't awesome enough, add s-pen functionality on the tip! Now THAT would be a monster combination paired up with an s-pen compatible 7.7!

How does the sound quality fare, both on your end and on the other person's end?
P.S. The design ideas above might be over the top to some, but if the form factor remains in tact, or is improved, it could still be a great idea. Essentially, it could open up a whole new market for tablets which have phone functionality. ASUS is doing something similar with their EeePad MeMO in the form of their MeMIC. Albeit, I don't think their design is quite as elegant as a tricked out HM5000 might be, but the principle is the same: turn your tablet into the central hub for everything mobile, thus simplifying things for your typical road warrior. I'm willing to bet that this sort of trend will start to take off in the near future, especially when you see companies experimenting with convergence devices such as the Note, the MeMO, the Padfone, etc. Basically, I think that bluetooth-only companion phones could soon open up an entirely new market for pairing up with tablets of any kind.
When i said over the top i meant it in a good way , i havent had any complaints regarding sound quality so for now i am satisfied with it..
The bluetooth companion phone makes total sense.. I use phoneleash to receive and send sms from my main lines number and get various notifications from my Galaxy Nexus on my p6800. My battery on my Galaxy Nexus can now go for almost 2 days as i touch it much less now.. So your definately on to something Jayed Eyed Wolf.. I still use my 10.1 around the house (especially in the kitchen while cooking), but the screen looks like a pile of garbage compared to the 7.7. And I used to think the screen on the 10.1 was really great! I suppose in a year or so the next great thing will make the 7.7 look like a faded CRT.

Nope it won't look like a faded CRT.
Think of it as an McLaren F1 supercar which is now 20 years+ old,
but doesn't look faded or dated at all.
Simply because you can only get slightly better when you've reached such quality.

Nice vid!
Do you leave it paired all the time in case of incoming calls? or do you just pair at the time of a call?
What's the toll on battery (both handset and tablet) with the first option?
Is the 2nd method (ad-hoc pairing) a practical method? (as in does the pairing take a long time?)
Thanks!

Me neither, on a Blueant Q2.
Really keen to see if anyone has managed to get voice dialing working on any bluetooth headset of any brand.
Spoke to Samsung support here in Oz, but they were bloody useless. Indicated that they couldn't/wouldn't help as I wasn't using a Samsung headset. They said all Samsung headsets would work, but that doesn't appear to be the case from your experience with the HM5000
AFAIK, currently no version of Android supports voice dialing via Bluetooth.

[Q] Call Quality DNA

I'm hoping it's something I'm missing in the set up or some minor other issue but after I finally got the DNA activated I made two calls.
Both calls were choppy on both ends of the call. This phone has gotten stellar reviews on reception quality. Volume and clarity.
I'm being told that the listener hears only bits and pieces of my voice and I hear the same from them.
All my other phones worked fine from my house where I made the calls.
Any thoughts on this from you guys on what might be happening?
Could something be defective on my DNA? Or does this sometimes happen with new out of the box phones?

If worse comes to worse (I'm hoping this is going to correct itself) can I return it to a local Verizon store for an exchange or do I have to ship it back to Verizon?
I'm going to try the store first on Friday (and I'd rather be shot then to do it on Black Friday).
Are you guys suggesting that this is probably a bad set?

I'm sure you can exchange in store even if you ordered online. Also, for what it's worth, my call quality has been very, very good. In fact, the clarity, at least on my end, has been noticeably better than the last couple phones I've had so if yours is really that bad when under ideal circumstances, that sounds like it might be a unique issue with your phone.

I don't want to leave this post without a follow up.
Yesterday when I (finally) activated my DNA: I then made two new voice calls.
As I stated above the calls were choppy and very bad on both ends.
I waited until this morning and made some more voice calls. Even from the same location.
All calls have been clear, audio R9, and more or less perfect.
I had forgotten that about five years ago also on a new cell phone: I had this same issue when activating and calling for the first time.
Nobody could hear me clearly and I could not hear them. The next day and forever after all was fine.
I am not a mobile device geek but I'm sure there is a deep dark explanation for this anomaly.
My son told me that I don't need to know what was happening yesterday but that today is what counts.
I still wonder.
The end result of this problem is that I did have a defective DNA device after all!
It did not fix itself, as I alluded to above.
The Verizon store gave me a new DNA and all is now good.
So.....for anyone interested, it is possible to receive a defective hardware (reception/radio/speaker/whatever) issue with this set.
At Verizon right now seeing if they give me an exchange on my DNA

Tell them that a new device should correct it. It did for me.
"Device type guys" might love the challenge of sitting around waiting for a future HTC update fix.
Just get a new set.....and walk away.
They wouldn't exchange it they couldn't get it to replicate the problem.

The problem is a fact!
Fortunately the employees at my store know me and know that I do not imagine issues.
A new DNA phone (for me) eliminated the problem.
When making calls you will hear the person you are speaking to clear as a bell.
But they are hearing your voice in the following manner:
1. Your voice fades in and out.
2. Some of your words are chopped out.
3. You sound to them like you are talking in a "tunnel".
Call Verizon and tell them that other buyers have successfully returned this set and the new one issued had no problems.
Get a new phone and don't settle for a HDC update.
Yes....some calls are fine. But I don't want "some" calls to be fine!
I want every call to be great on a new phone.

I'm not having any issues at all with call quality, but I have noticed that my touchscreen isn't nearly as sensitive as my Rezound was. I am constantly getting missed letters when typing on keyboard or having to double tap 3 or 4 times before my screen zooms. I'm thinking this is also a hardware issue and will likely try to get it swapped out soon. Has anyone else had sensitivity problems?
I need help... I keep getting told that the phone quality on the other end is just terrible that the other person just cant hear me at all. (That I sound like im in a tunnel and far away from my phone) I need to figure out a way to record the proof so i can take it to a verizon and get an exchange. Can someone or anybody give me any suggestions? I need help really bad.

Tell the store you want a new phone! Call them from another location and speak to the manager. Ask him or her how well they can hear you.
My phone was so bad that every call I made the receiving party noticed it dramatically.
Send me a PM and I'll identify the store or you can ship the phone directly to Verizon within your 14 day period for a replacement set.

Got one worth mine. Of course it's still wrapped and will stay sitting there
Maybe I should call verizon and say since I did not get a manual with my Galaxy Note 2 do I get a free pair of headphones instead?
I only got a table leg leveler with mine. No idea!
The Verizon Note 2 does not come with a physical manual. It has the following physical documents:
- Star Here (and Comienza Aqui, the Start Here guide in Spanish)
- Product Safety & Warranty Information
- Global Support Calling Card
- Consumer Information About Radio Frequency Emissions & Responsible Driving
- Important Consumer Information
I have a feeling that people who are saying they received a manual are referring to one (or all) of those, but none of those are actual device user manuals though (at least in the sense that the OP is referring to). The actual user manual is 216 pages long. Verizon (and other carriers) have been cutting back on the included documentation with devices for a little while now.
If you want the actual user manual, you have to download it. It can be found on Samsung's support website for the Verizon Note 2.

This is the one phone I could see shipping it as a PDF file included would make total sense. it fits the usage.
Not shipping earbuds/mic is just tacky given the price. You'll definitely be using those on this thing.

After ICS update caller can't hear my voice

Hi all, after the ICS update yesterday, when someone calls or I call out, the other person can't hear my voice. I can plug in ear buds, with built-in mic and the other person can hear my voice ok. Wondering if there's a conflict somehow with the speakerphone? Been over the sound settings several times and can't find anything that applies. Any ideas or fixes? Thanks much
Jim
Interesting. I've not run in to that yet. I am unable to use MHS with hidden ssid, I hate that quick look up is gone, and facebook was added. Just a few minor things but overall I like it.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I like what I'm seeing so far with ICS. This problem is very similar to one I had on an HTC Fuze several years ago, but it's been too long ago to recall the solution.
Are you able to hear calls on speaker?

Are you unrooted?

Its a stock Tbolt. I did try flipping the phone and the speaker didn't come on. There was a sound setting that was checked (flip phone for speaker).

If your microphone stopped working immediately after the OTA, I'd call Verizon and have someone look at it and replace it.
If your microphone worked for a little while after the OTA, chances are your microphone just decided to give out.
Either way, I'd look to get it replaced. If its stock and unrooted, there's absolutely no reason for the microphone giving out to be your fault unless it has possible water damage.
Try checking the headphone jack with a bright light for something stuck down in the headphone jack.

RBarnett, thanks for the reply. The phone was working properly (my voice out) worked fine before the OTA update. No water damage. Just too much of a coincidence for the phone microphone to stop working immediately after the OTA, to my way of thinking. Sounds like good advice to have Verizon check it out.
No mic on Thunderbolt after ICS and app installs
Exact same issue here.
I updated my stock, undamaged, 2 year old, Verizon HTC Thunderbolt to Ice Cream Sandwich(ICS) last Tuesday evening. That evening I found out my phone mic was not working. Callers could not hear me, but all else was fine. Speaker phone did work. Love the Bolt and ICS looks and feels great.
I went to the local Verizon store and the guy did some online research and found no known or reported issues. He said that it must be coincidental that the mic stopped working after the ICS update. He cleaned the mic area and the headphone jack, assuming crud may have been disabling the mic. Nothing seemed to fix the problem.
They ordered a replacement under warranty and it arrived the next day. I activated it and proceeded to reload all my apps, again assuming that the mic issue must be coincidental. After many hours tweaking the phone to my needs and setting up all apps I found that the mic did not work.
Thursday I took both to the Verizon store and another rep played with it and could not find the cause. Only options were to upgrade, or try another replacement. I had no reason to replace my previously fully functioning Bolt. They ordered a second refurb that arrived yesterday. Before downloading any apps I was only going to activate it and make sure the mic worked. I never got that far. The second refurb had a malfunctioning screen that was unacceptable to me.
So off to the store I went with three Bolts.
They agreed the 2nd one should never have been sent out with the poor screen.
This time I talked with a female rep. She actually just upgraded from a Thunderbolt and was well versed. We decided to wipe the first refurb back to factory and the mic now was working. I took it home, started downloading my apps and after a few hours and nearly done I found the phone mic to be inoperable again. The speaker mic worked fine.
Assuming an app was disabling my phone mic I wiped it back to factory and reactivated. I checked and the mic is now working again. I assume one of my apps is conflicting with the mic mute. I have been downloading a few apps at a time and the mic is still working. Only about 15% of the previously downloaded apps are now on my Bolt. I just don’t know what app, or when my mic may go mute.
Long, ongoing story, but I thought I would post to see if anyone has any ideas, or similar issues after ICS update. Thanks in advance.
Keep sending them back and complain enough and you might get a newer replacement.

By "new replacement" you mean a new Thunderbolt, or replacement by a different phone? Probably be a frickin Apple knowing my bad luck...lol
I was actually surprised they updated the Bolt considering you can't even get accessories at a Verizon store any longer. And supplies are limited online.

Not an option for me. I will decide what brand/model phone I will use, not Verizon.

Hey, a big THANKS, for that detailed reply! I guess misery loves company! Yep, that is the problem. The only work around I've found is to use head phones or ear buds. But you can't just plug in buds or phones and expect them to work for phone calls. They have to have a built in mic. Mine is a Dynex Adapter. It has the mic and a button switch for switching to a call if you're listening to music or radio. The adapter is about 5" long and costs about $10 as I recall. At least that makes the phone usable again until a better solution comes along.
Like you, I thought I might have a rogue app and started removing any app with an audio or sound component. So far no luck. Please let me know if you come across a solution and I'll do the same. Thanks again for posting.

I have read elsewhere about a similar issue. In that post it mentioned that once you get the rogue mic mute the only fix is a factory wipe. I have had to wipe phones 5 times since ICS update last Tuesday. I tried uninstalling app by app but never got the mic back without a wipe. I need a phone, more than I need all the apps. I do miss some but am adding them back slowly.
Same here. They are sending me a replacement and we'll see what happens. I'm personally hoping this 2nd one has the same issue and just seeing if I can upgrade mine to another phone. >.>
Being a total dumb ass concerning programming phones, this problem appears to be software rather than hardware related. Could a developer create a small app to simply reset or clear the mic status? I'm probably oversimplifying, but it looks like an HTC or Verizon developer could fix this problem in a matter of minutes. Rendering a fine phone useless after an OS update seems kind of ridiculous, imo. Any suggestions or thoughts?
So far none of the rooted users that didnt take the ota but rather used the flash able haven't reported this issue. It is possible that its a combination of hardware and software where the new software didn't fill the gap for your hardware. It is well known that no two thunderbolts are alike and they all react differently to the software.

Good point Disconnectie. Something, whether hardware or software, rendered my perfectly working Tbolt, basically unusable after the OTA. I wonder now if the Emergency Call function is working? Don't think I'll make an emergency call to test.

Muffled voice, poor call quality issue - still Android 7.0?

way back Google has acknowledged this issue and hoping it will be fixed in Android 7.0 update, but still there. This issue seems to be related to the noise-cancelling mic found on the back of the device.
I know some people posted some workaround such as covering up the mic fixes the issue, or persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=true, and changing it to false in build.prop (if rooted, which I am not).
I know there are tons of post related this (searching Google gives many of them), I was just wondering if anyone seen any improvement after 7.0 update or pretty much the same or any other workaround that worked for you..
share your thoughts and findings would be great..
It's a hardware defect. RMA your device and get one that works. I had the same issue with my first device. Returned it and now all is good in the world... You shouldn't have to disable the noise cancelling mic... It's there for a reason

ohh well, this is factory refurbished one, so I don't think I can do RMA now...well I guess I can live with it for a while until I dump this phone with better alternative...

No. I got it from BestBuy couple months ago...checked with Google, and re-turn period is over for this phone, and BestBuy has 90 days return, which is also over...
and I know noise cancelling mic. is there for a good reason, but it is better people can hear me when I speak is more important, so I am planing to put a small tape on mic back of the phone and give a try and see if any improvement...
other than, I really love my Nexus 6P, but this small annoying issue really really bothers me..
If it's a hardware issue why does it work fine when your in speaker phone? At least mine does.....

I've putting up with this problem for nearly a year now. It sucks that Google continually ignores that fact it exists and none of the major tech sites have taking them to task over it. I've only now read of two people who have resolved the issue via RMA. Everyone else who RMA their phones reported the same behavior with the replacement according to the Google forums.
Anyhow, I just followed the advice of someone from Reddit which I posted below and I then tested twice with my one friend who always have a problem hearing me when I call her iPhone. Now, the problem seems to be cleared up but I don't know if this was a permanent fix or not. Hopefully, I will know by early Nov. which is when my 1 year warranty expires.
----------------
Restart your phone in safe mode. Hold the power button until 'Power off' comes up. Then touch and hold that box until it asks to reboot in safe mode. Make a call in safe mode and see if that works. Then reboot normally. Fixed the problem of my phone calls sounding bad. It resets something, not sure but it fixed my problem. If that doesn't work then RMA (They will probably ask you to do what I just mentioned since this is what just happened to me).

Here is my add to this. I was a purchaser of a Note 7. Returned it during the recall and bought a Nexus 6p directly from Google. I received the device and was having issues with people on the other end complaining of echoing if they could hear me. Alot of time I could hear them and they couldn't hear me at all. I called Google and explained the situation. They shipped me my replacement device (which by the way was a new device and not a factory refurb). My replacement device does not have the audio issues and I am extremely happy. So I can confirm that it is indeed a hardware issue and the only fix is an RMA.
Do you guys have a case on your phones? I found that my Spigen case was causing issues. It seems to have stretched a bit and was covering the noise cancelling mic.

You just quoted someone that said he fixed his in safe mode and then you said it's for sure a hardware issue......?. It could be a hardware or software issue depending on you situation. I believe mine is software because it works great in speaker phone.

Hello there!
Same problem here, opposite side is always telling me, that I sound like from garbage/drain or some pipe and also opposite side has echo of it's voice, so practically they hear only themselves with echoes and me very bad or not at all...
I'm using my 6P with Spigen Rugged Armor, and I also tried to make calls without it, and it looked like it's better, so I tried another cover case - Nilkin Perfect Fit, same problems as Rugged Armor and now for the third time, I'm trying Spigen Thin Fit and don't be surprised, it's all the same. So again I tried to use phone without cover and problems appeared same as with cover, so there is no straight connection between cover and these problems in my opinion!
I was preparing to make a ROOT and disable back microphone, but I've read some posts about it and decided to try RMA first, I will come back, how it will end up.
I have the same problem, but only when using the internal mic. Other end says I sound muffled, and I'm only 10" away from the mic. I have to be about an inch or so away and NOT on speaker for them to understand me. I can hear them clear as can be. I have the Unicorn Beetle case, and the noise canceling mic isn't covered, or dirty. I'll try a reboot into safe mode, call, and reboot again. Of course, it could also be just certain people are having a hard time hearing me. I'll see what I can come up with.

This worked for me. Thx!
For those who sufferef from muffled voice/bad microphone, try loose the screw at the bottom back of your 6p, you have to open the cover first by using guitar pick/cutter>loose the screw (centre)>put the cover back> completed. No complaint from the other end at all.
Stock 6p, dp4
Solution- Safemode restart...
Thanks guys..I just tried the Safemode restart and it worked perfectly. Then restart in normal mode and the interference could be heard again..so it's one of the apps..not the handset. Thanks again, saved a lot of hassle by avoiding the RMA nightmare.
Ok, so here's my solution/problem - I've rooted, edited build.prop:
persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=true ---->>> false
persist.audio.fluence.speaker=true --->>> flase
It fixes the issue with garbled/muffled voice from both me and the person on another end; however, now the speaker volume is too high (even on the lowest setting). Editing lines in mixer_path xml makes phone calls unusable - the dialer shows it's connected but I cannot hear anything and the person says their volume is stuck at 0 ....
Any one knows the correct way to edit the "steps" for speaker colume for voice calls?

Is it a known issue when I recover from a backup, wifi won't work? It was a full backup - system, data, etc
Had to put back the official 8.0 image, just rooted and getting my stuff set up, will try the "speaker" toggle when done in an hour.
