[Question] What about setting a bounty for NL920 bootloader hack - Nokia Lumia 920

Hi guys,
what do you think about setting a bounty for a Nokia Lumia 920 bootloader hack or jailbreak for Windows Phone 8, like they did for the GS4 Active in this thread here.
Tell what you think about that, maybe geohot needs money

The reason why I own two HTC Titan (Eternity) smart phones are...it is the last Windows Phone that could be successfully bootloader unlocked. The next generation Titan, the Titan II (Radiance) is impossible to HSPL and no device since can be HSPL; no HSPL, no custom roms. It's is a very good phone with one really aggravating issue; it is believed AT&T deliberately throttled the device's mobile data speed. I'd buy a Nokia Lumia 920 in a heartbeat were it not for the fact that there isn't a branded WP8 app that couldn't be home-brewed or 3rd party created for WP7.8 with one exception; Skype but the news isn't all bad because it doesn't run flawless either on WP8. I wish you good luck in your endeavor.

There is Huawei W1 with unlocked bootloader, so I think WP 8 is not so unhackable, but nevertheless Huawei is very different then 920.
I'm in for such a quest..I donate money if we start raising such bounty.

Nokia Australia says tethering is NEVER coming

I have been waiting on the Lumia 800 luanch in Australia for some time now and I have been emailing Nokia in regards to tethering on the handset as I need it for use with my laptop for work. Nokia rep have been saying its coing in a future update but I rang Nokia nd they said that the comments are misinformed and that tethering is never coming. I then email Nokia australia and was told the same thing that it is never coming and so I emailed back giving links of the net which say it is and this is the responce I got...

Hi Nathan,
Thank you for your response.
We still affirm on our previous statement that Wi-Fi tethering is not obtainable in Nokia Lumia 800. Please be advised that the Wi-Fi tethering is a hardware dependent application which makes the Nokia Lumia 800 unequipped for it.
Please feel free to write back to us if you need further assistance with this case. You may also contact one of our friendly Technical Support Executives at 1-300 366 733 from 8am to 8pm, AEST, seven days a week. WHAT THE HELL? Its now a hardware issue and isnt ever coming? I will be cancelling my pre-order as it is definately a serious disfunction and the yes it is, no it isnt stance from Nokia is a joke. I NEED it for work and so the Lumia 800 is now not appropiate for me.
Thoughts?
What the hell? AFAIK before they fixed the Network configuration utility, it was possible to do the interop unlock and enable the tethering manually in registry (am I right?). Now they say it's not possible at all? Don't get me started!

I really doubt that. I guess the Lumia 800 needs to have some drivers in order to enable tethering. There is currently no way to add tethering. I called the Nokia hotline as well and they said that there will be no tethering. However the salesman that sold me the device promised me tethering in a future update. I guess it was false advertising :-/
Hey, but wait! HTC Titan Comes with integrated wifi tethering and it have the same Qualcomm MSM8255T as Lumia.
Doesn't it makes it possible to bring this function to the Lumia?
Unless tethering is connected with different module...

First of all we would need to possibility to either have full access to the phone to include the drivers or the ability to install custom ROMs. The second problem I can think of is that those are HTC drivers that are connected to other parts of HTC related things. I place more hope in the Lumia 900, that offers tethering. Maybe we'll hear something at MWC in a few days.
But if it depends on MSM8255T, then Nokia shouldn't have any problem updating, or even writing driver for this function.
Or may be Nokia does not want to admit the real reason why they do not want to activate tethering - so they think out a fairytale about the HW disability.
It is not the first time such a case happens.
It would not be any surprise for me Lumia 800 will not be provided with tethering and they will use it for some questionable reasons for to the first time for Lumia 900.
Yeah you'd only need to get the phone interop unlocked (was possible before with a Nokia Network Setting vulnerability) and just edit the registry little bit. The Nokia Lumia hardware can 100% surely do tethering, if they have proper drivers. So it's all software. I remember when I unlocked the tethering on my Samsung Omnia 7 months before the official tethering update was pushed out.
Ok, another source. The nokia support in germany states here that a tethering update will come in early 2012. So I guess well have to be patient...

When pushed on the time frame he said "we are aiming for 4 weeks from launch" and launch in Australia is March 4th. SO good news and hopefully not too long to wait.

You need to print that email out, when the update arrives, march down to the place of business where you were told it would never happen, rub their noses in it and say "bad dog!".
It was Nokia Care who told me it wasn't coming. Not a store. I work for a retailer here in Australia and was trying to get the correct, honest answer for my customers and for all our stores customers.
No one wants to be lied to or misinformed and I am pretty impressed with Nokia that they corrected the wrong answer given by their own care centre. Add to this the woman who gave the wrong information rang me today to apologise and say she had now updated the care centers info so no one gets the wrong information again.
I GUARANTEE no other company would do that level of customer service. I deal with Samsung, Apple, HTC and many more and know they don't care to that degree.

I'm always happy to hear when a company is quick to correct any issues rather than dismiss the problem or blame the end user (in the case of the iPhone antenna fiasco).

Rooting HTC TITAN II help pls

any one can help me to root this HTC TITAN II
tks
oups ...

I am guessing you are a little new to Windows Phone right? Rooting is only done on Android devices.
Now to answer your question ...there are three levels of unlocking standards for WP. -I will post a link from the WP thread explaining these level of unlocks entirely when I am not busy.
http://forums.wpcentral.com/titan/189096.htm
A short a sweet version is (1) The Developer Unlock (2) The Interop Unlock (3) The God Mode Unlock -Full Unlock
As of right now, the Titan, Titan 2, - and any second gen HTC WP device is only able to do the developer unlock at the moment. -Developer unlocks can only side load apps. In order for us to have a custom ROM we must have an unlocked bootloader. -Which is also not currently available for our phones just yet.
Alrighty then, now you have a little understanding of what we can/can't do just yet. Tune in and be patient and we might get something soon.

Nope! That's a separate sort of unlocking I'm afraid. You might need unlock codes to carrier unlock.

$99 is not just unlock your phone. You get to publish apps you wrote and unlock up to 5 phones.

Also may I add that $99 is not one-off. It is $99 per year.
The bottom line is if you are not going to publish apps, there is no reason to spend that $99/yr. Dev unlock only gives you ability to side load apps. That's about it.
Too bad, there are several apps that I would like to be able to side-load. But that is not worth $99 annually.
Thanks

if I buy a Titan II from the US, can i use it in India and flash a current/latest custom ROMs?
From my experience with a Titan 2 there is no way to install a custom ROM or even a Stock ROM, They were only ever released for AT&T and although you can unlock them for use on other carriers you will be stuck with AT&T setings and not be able to use MMS,
At least that was what I found out earlier in the Year when I purchased one from USA,
Best of luck.
Not completely accurate -
there is one stock ROM around for the Titan II - I haven't tried it, but there you are - no one has reported back after flashing it to say if it is useful....
If you carrier unlock a Titan II and take it somewhere else it will depend if the carrier you use has the same frequencies as AT&T, and also whether the HTC connections app can help you out. The app is designed to facilitate use of HTC phones on other carriers by trying to set up the connection specs for you. I don't know how effective it is, I'm on AT&T.....
So there you go....

You are correct! Thanks to the HTC Titan II, I made absolutely sure that when I bought another device it was the Titan I, not the Titan II despite it's better camera and LTE. I'm eyeballing one of the Windows Phone 8 models but I'm saying to myself if Microsoft and carriers have perfected making the Titan II bootloader unlockable then what will the future bring. Windows Phone 7 should have been what Windows Phone 8 is and I'm hoping with the formal release of Windows Phone 7.8 in early 2013 there will be more substance to the release than just the customized tile display; I mean for Christ's sake if that is all there is to it then release it to Windows Phone 7 devices. That said, I'm hoping what is released will allow us to run programs like Skype in background.

Hi,
No possibility to unlock a Lumia 920 for the time being. Let's hope developers will soon be able to do it.
Can i unlock my lumia 920?
Hi, I'm new here.
I have a locked Nokia lumia 920 from Roger - Canada. I have the unlock code for its IMEI , i paid U$37,00 for it.
But i can't type the unlock code. I turn the cell phone , and appear the message: "SIM ERROR - THE SIM CARD IS MISSING OR INVALID. YOU CAN STILL MAKE EMERGENCY CALLS IF YOUR MOBILE OPERATOR SUPPORT IT."
The same message appears with or without a sim card inside it.
Somebody help me,please.

No there is nothing of the sort yet for this phone. It may come but I wouldn't count on it. Despite all the flack MS gets about virus and malware stuff they really are far better at securing their software than Apple or Google. Couple that with the fact that there are far less people trying to hack WP vs iOS or Android and you are in a tricky spot if you want to mod your WP device.

First of all this is not the right thread to be asking this question... But to answer you, you need a non-carrier matching SIM to unlock the phone. So if you have a Rogers device you need a SIM that isn't from Rogers.

[Q] Bounty - HSPL for TITAN II

I have read a lot of threads while searching for a way to fully unlock my Titan II as a lot of people are trying to use their unlocked phones on other carriers. I too am one of those people and would like to officially start a bounty thread for the Titan II.
I know that DFT was the one who created it for the legendary HD2 which I am a proud owner of.
I would like to post a $50 bounty via paypal to the one who cracks the Titan II and adds the database for the HTC Connection Setup. I don't know if it can be ported over from the HD2, but it doesn't seem like it wouldn't be possible. Either that or any other way to unlock the apn settings for mms provisioning.
Please join me in my quest to fully unlocking this AMAZING device and proving that we don't need to be tied down by the chains of tyranny due to oversights by manufacturers, providers and software manufactures because WE THE PEOPLE are capable of standing on our own,
Who's With ME????
Thanks for getting the ball rolling. Some reason I feel like there are a good amount of people out there with HTC titan 2's (myself included), but there's no dev support for it really.
Many have said that it should be quite easy since other than the camera and addition of LTE, it's essentially very similar. But who knows, I'm not a developer,

I understand your frustration; I really, really do but think about this; name me one Windows Phone that has followed the HTC Titan (Eternity) that has been successfully HSPL'd? Answer - None! There will never be another device manufactured like the HD2 and I fail to see the logic behind locking these devices down so tight there is no joy in owning a device which you're at the mercy of the WP Marketplace. All that said, development is dead for Windows Phone 7.x and like it or not while Windows Phone 8.x isn't perfect it is slowly grabbing traction with market share now at 5.6% and as of April has risen faster than Android. I have waffled back and forth as to try and sell my HSPL'd Titans while I can still get some value out of them or wait it out until Windows Phone 9 is released or abandon Windows Phone altogether. I bought my wife the HTC One (M7) and I guess I got lucky because it is one sweet piece of hardware and I bought the developer's edition and to help my wife learn the device I loaded Launcher 8 to give her the same start menu she was familiar with on the Titan. For the moment I'm eyeballing the Lumia 925 if it in fact pans out it's pentaband.

I'm not familiar with that app but there is an alternative now for AT&T compatible radios, but you will need Nokia's Network Setup to make the manual edits. We had a solution in the past but discovered using Consumer Cellular gave us MMS but did not give us the ability to use cellular data completely unrestricted. You can uninstall HTC Connection Setup if you opt this route. Carortruck, it is doubtful there will be any further development of the Windows Phone 7.x platform with the exception of an update to 7.9. It is unclear what this update will entail though many who have responded to Microsoft asking for Bluetooth and Skype to run in background. There are quite a number of 3rd party apps that will run APIs of branded apps, my personal favorites are MetroTalk and MetroRadio and of course, Skype.

I have tried to find a way to install nokia's connection setup but am unable to figure out how to spoof the marketplace to let me download it. On my hd2, I also used consumer cellular and know that trick, but the htc connection setup on the titan 2 only has at&t in the database. I was thinking of developer unlock to sideload a registry editor or load an xml file that would have the settings in it, but it seems like there is an easier way.
I have switched back to my gs2 even though I LOVE the way the windows phone feels. It's so stable and smooth, but I am at a crossroads here. I can live without tethering and want not.
As far as api's, I use graffiti radio for my Pandora. I really just want my mms unlocked.

I want you to open the APN settings inside your settings...and simply add "att.mvno" on the APN line....everything else is blank! Continue to use Consumer Cellular. The downside is these settings will disable mobile data to Bing and Map Search. Registry Editor won't help you here. Being that you have the Titan II it is not possible to install the Nokia Network Setup app which the HTC Connection Setup is not required but HTCCS will work as long as you configure your settings properly.

The HTC Titan I (Eternity - PI39100) was the last of any of the Windows Phone 7.x devices to be developer-interop unlocked and even during their development the bootloaders changed making near the end of production many of these devices unable to be unlocked other than subsidy (carrier) unlocked. I'm torn between staying with WP8 and buying the Lumia 1520 or going over to the dark side and buying the HTC One M7 or M8 so I remain with my devices for the time being realizing they're likely to become worthless before I once and for all sell them. I continue to own a HD2 that I stuck a 64 gig card in running NativeSD; we'll never see another device like that one, what a shame.

Can I update to Amber with ATT USA Lumia 920?

Hey guys,
I have an unlocked AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 that I am using with a different carrier at the moment. I am still on Windows Phone 8 software and it says there are no updates at this time when I try to update the phone. Can I update it to Amber? Is there an Amber around that works with USA ATT Lumia 920?
Please help me out if you know, I see a lot of threads saying update to Amber but is this for like Europe phones or?
Please include a link if you have one for me to update it the right way.
Appreciate it all, thanks.
Amber has not been released for ATT devices yet. They still have to make their official ATT changes and bloatware before they will release for their devices.

That is not Amber though and is not supposed to be used by Average Joe Consumer. I suspect someday ATT or Nokia will send a bullet out that will kill all phones running Dev ROMS and are not registered as Dev phones. Dev ROMS allow people to get around certain parts of the system.

hahahahahha hahahahhahah LOL
AT&T Dev Devices are Nokia 920 phones, which where given on BUILD Conf. of Microsof....there is nothing to do with developers unlocked devices, which can be any Windows Phone registered in Microsoft with Developer account. The ROM is clean of any AT&T bull****s and only AT&T Device which has Amber update so far.

Amber has not been released for ATT devices yet. They still have to make their official ATT changes and bloatware before they will release for their devices.

It is taking much longer than any other update. I think that they might be skipping GDR2 and going right to GDR3 which is going to be announced with the 1520/whatever they call it towards the end of this month.
