OmniKang - by finnq & Schubi (i9100) - Galaxy S II Android Development

OmniKang by finnq & Schubi (Android 4.4)
This is an OmniROM based ROM with lots of cherry picks and modifications.
OmniKang is compatible with the official OmniROM nightlies.
So you normally you can flash OmniKang just over an OmniROM nightly without wiping anything. It's just the same procedure as flashing a new nightly.
You can also do the other way round without expecting problems.
I won't describe here in detail how to flash OmniKang because it's almost exactly the same procedure as for OmniROM. So please have a look here if you don't know. However, you don't have to flash Superuser manually, as it's already in OmniKang.

You are absolutly right! To be honest I never knew Schubi also builts for i9100.
I built this rom for my own t989 S2 and I liked it so much that I also built it for my moms phone (i9100). An thought to just post it.
Since Schubi builds for the i9100 himself I will drop support off this device. I did not found a cyankang 4.2.2 for the i9100 though so download stays up!

Hi guys!
Schubi didn't remember that I also build for the Galaxy S2 (i9100) . He though it was another version of the S2 . But anyways thank you very much, that you also support us by building!

Nice cherry picks :thumbup::thumbup:

HALO
So HALO cant run any app in windowed mode and no apps cant be pinned to halo (so that they allways appear in halo)?
whats the use of halo if there is no windowed mode in ROM with Appbar?

@nasye:
Of course, there is floating mode for windows. And it's possible to pinn apps.
Why should it not?

New nightly is up!
New in this one:
Allow multiuser (change config_multiuserMaximumUsers to 8)
Toggle to hide QS Panel

Instructions for porting Beanstalk
Setup to build - This section can be skipped if youve ever built anything before. This is for first time build setup.
1. From your root terminal location, type the following: sudo apt-get install curl git-core gnupg flex bison gperf libsdl1.2-dev libesd0-dev libwxgtk2.6-dev squashfs-tools build-essential zip curl libncurses5-dev zlib1g-dev sun-java6-jdk pngcrush schedtool g++-multilib lib32z1-dev lib32ncurses5-dev lib32readline5-dev gcc-4.3-multilib g++-4.3-multilib
2. Type: mkdir ~/bin
3. Type: PATH=~/bin:$PATH
4. Type: curl https://dl-ssl.google.com/dl/googlesource/git-repo/repo > ~/bin/repo
5. Type: chmod a+x ~/bin/repo
From terminal
1. type 'cd'. This will bring you to your root folder.
2. type 'mkdir beanstalk'. This will create a folder named beanstalk.
3. type 'cd beanstalk'. This will take you to the beanstalk directory created from previous step
4. type 'repo init -u git://github.com/scotthartbti/android.git -b cm-10.1'. This will setup the folders to be synced.
5. type 'repo sync'. This will sync the folders to your beanstalk directory. Note - This will take some time depending on internet connection. Be patient!
6. After the repo sync finally finishes, all you need to do is add your device, kernel, vendor specific files for the device you are building for. (You must know what these are, dont bother asking me if your not sure.)
7. Make sure all your device specific files are setup as if you were going to build for CM.
8. Outside of terminal, navigate to beanstalk/vendor/cm. Double click on the get-prebuilts file and select run in terminal. This will fetch necessary files needed to build and place them where they need to be.
9. Type '. build/envsetup.sh && brunch "device name"'
10. Previous step will start building beanstalk for your device. The process takes anywhere from 1 - 3 hours depending on your computer.
11. Once completed, it will say package complete and you will have a beanstalk named zip file in your out folder.
will add this to the roms list

Roger, thank you. Do you suspect this will only ever be available on TW based roms? Giving er a flash either way, looks great!

Well, it will be interesting to see when the Google edition is released next month. I'm guessing probably not because Sammy doesn't want to release the code, but we will see. There is a lot of anticipation for this Google edition release!
Be sure to thank Scott too, he is the mastermind behind this rom!
im going to sound very ungrateful right now....
First of all thank you to all devs with out you my phone would be just another phone.

No problem! I don't use the lock ring, always have my widgets full screen. This is just a port so I am not going to change the lock ring in the source (I'm building for all the s4 variants).
But, if you really want to change it, I would suggest building it yourself and changing the image in the source code. I can look through the code to try and find where it is.
pm me if you would like any help!

The lockscreen ring png files are in the framework-res.apk. Under drawable. It'll be like ic_lockscreen_handle and pressed or something like that. Ben awhile since I changed one.

I found it! I'll replace it with the stock CM image. Personally, I wasn't the biggest fan of it either.
EDIT: Put this in /system/framework. It will soft reboot and you will have the stock CM lock ring
I've been on this rom on morning and it's been great. The only thing that doesn't work for me that is making me flash off is that i can't play super stickman golf 2 against people. Google Play Services FC's everytime. I've tried grabbing the latest google play apk and it didn't seem to help. Other that that it's been great. GPS locks instantly with all location settings on too.

I think you mean the notification drawer pulldown? If so then go to:
System Settings -> System -> Notification drawer -> Notification drawer style

Weird...yes i did do a full wipe and used the gapps package provided in OP rather than the normal "gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip". Maybe I'll try a different gapps.

What have we here?
Let's put a quarter in this thing and see what happens :highfive:
Nice to see more builds coming Would love to see lots of these become official
Congratulations on your first ROM release!
You should change the install instructions where it says you must flash gapps since gapps are included.
I'm all over this like white on rice. I thought it was illegal to include gapps in ROMs or something like that? I'm assuming the size means gapps are included? It's awfully big

It's not illegal I believed Google asked cm not to include them. As a matter of fact in my rezound days a bunch of roms I flashed included them. I remember Neo had more of a understanding to as what all the legalitys where.

no was just straight load but had trouble even with my noid when i restored and it just now finally updated the 4 apps I had ?
Hmm maybe it was a Google problem not Rom problem I will flash in the morning and report back
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk
Yeah I had a few weird bugs with the play store. Also you might want to uninstall/disable google play movies because sms didn't work until i did that. But doing that, clearing play store data&cache, and rebooting fixed all those problems.
Thanks for the heads up on the instructions, I forgot to take that out.
Updated the OP and FAQ. I might see if I can get rid of the Gapps in the next build, personally I think doing that causes more problems than it solves (Google Play Movies being a perfect example).

Building from Source:
Requirements:
Linux, (I use Ubuntu, works with other distros, too, but maybe you have to make some changes to the commands)
A working Build Environment, (here is a guide how to set up a Build Environment on Ubuntu)
(needed steps till "Identify Yourself to the Repo")
Create working directory and init repo:
Code:
mkdir ~/Android/Darkkat
(you can use a directory name and path you like, but you have to change the commands to match to your local path)
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-4.4
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(now it`s time to drink a big cup of coffee, tea, or ... this can take some time)
Get the needed binaries for the Nexus 7:
Download from Google Developers: Binaries for Nexus 7 [2013] (Mobile) ("razorg")
(all 3 tgz archives)
Extract to the root of your working directory,
Run the scripts:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
Code:
./<filename>
(Confirm Licensing Agreement)
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch deb
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber
Darkkat Addon
Included:
Custom installation with Aroma Installer
English and german language
Bootanimations:
AOSP 4(.1/.2)
AOSP 4(.3/.4)
Galaxy Nexus
OmniRom, (old)
CM10(.1/.2)
Fonts:
Ubuntu
Roboto, (Android 4.4)
Roboto, (Android 4.3)
Roboto, (Android 4.2)
Install SuperSu
Additional Apps:
RootBrowser
BoatBrowser
Airdroid
Terminal Emulator
Install backup script:
Bootanimation
Font
SuperSu
Some infos:
General:
If you don`t like you don`t have to use the addon,
but take a look at post #2 "Installation" -> "Without DarkKat Addon"
You only have to flash the addon one time, (if you choose to install the backup scripts),
all your custom changes will be restored after an update.
The Darkkat Addon will work with all Darkkat Builds,
you don`t have to look at the addon date and rom date.
Additional Apps:
Don`t use the addon to update the apps, (this should be done via Play Store)
There is no need to install apps which are already installed.
Awesome... Running smooth as silk.... Thank you!! ☺

Immersive mode
Hi there is immersive mod working in this rom?
On mako and flo, immersive mode is working fine, I don't own the deb, so I can't test it. Enable expanded desktop at Settings -> Interface -> General, and use the quicksettungs tile, (expanded desktop) to enable/disable immersive mode, or use the power menu.
Even if it's called expanded desktop, it uses the new immersive mode function.

or just remove all the tiles, and setup again.
You have to resetup the power menu, it will be restored to defaults.
A big thanks to bwells88 for beta testing the deb version, without his help, the deb version,
wouldn`t exist
Still amazing here.... 8). I'm thinking that not many peeps purchased a Deb device... Not a lot of traffic on the LTE thread... ☺

Calculator update
LockClock update
Torch update
DashClock update
Some infos about the update:
Android update to KVT49L:
The update to KVT49L is a very small update,
which was released for the LTE version of the Nexus 7, (deb).
On Nexus 7, (deb) the US-Provider Verizon Wireless is supported know.
The calendar- and keyboard App are updated.
You shouldn`t expect big changes.
As soon as Google will release the KVT49L Kernel sources,
I`ll update the kernel, too.
(maybe the Verizon Wireless support will only work with the updated kernel,
but as I don`t earn a deb, and also don`t live in the US I can`t test it).
Advanced Power menu:
I decided, to deactivate the long click function,
because the reboot function has already a long click action,
(reboot to save mode).
Quick settings:
As the networkmode tile doesn`t work at all,
I removed it (temporary),
(as soon as I succeed to fix the function, (if any),
I`ll ad the networkmode tile again).
Quick access ribbons:
Known bug:
With deactivated Quick settings, the Quick access ribbons won`t be activated again,
by activating the Quick settings, a reboot will solve it.
(I guess I`ll don`t be able to fix it soon, I`m sorry).
SuperSU settings:
Since version 1.85 SuperSu hides it launcher icon,
if the relevant setting is present in the system settings.
You can find the SuperSU settings below developer settings.
(On Nexus 4 the SuperSu launcher icon was present at the app drawer,
as long as I lunched it`s settings from system settings the first time,
On Nexus 7 it wasn`t present).
Mms/Sms: Holo, (dark) Theme:
to justify the word "Dark" in Darkkat,
among dialer and contacts the Mms/Sms app is Holo, (dark) themed, too.
It isn`t planed to theme other system apps, too,
but if someone is interested, I`ll change my opinion,
(ONLY system apps, e.g. Email, Calendar, ...,
NO Gapps, like Play Store, Hangouts, ...,
NO user apps like Airdroid, ...).
if you prefer the light themed app, you can find it inside the curent DarkKat Addon,
to recover the light version after a rom update, you should also install the backup script.
Is it possible that you add sms and ussd code in the next build, and also native OTG support in settings/storage?
Thanks!
The rom is great by the way... =)
I also thought about SMS/MMS support, so I'll take a look at it. But native OTG and USSD, never thought about it, so I have to do a little bit research, I don't know if it'll be included in the next build.

There is always a room for improvement... Thanks!
USB-OTG is working fine on flo:
I guess it`ll be working on deb, too
the files to edit are the same for deb.
So the fix will be included in the next build, if I get a positive feedback from my beta tester or someone else.

Initial release
Kernel source for Hammerhead
F.A.Q. - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Exodus?
A: Exodus is my personal combination of the best of both worlds. CyanogenMod features and AOKP features, merged together with AOSP elements.
Q: Do I need to flash GApps?
A: If you did a factory reset during flashing, then yes. If you did a dirty flash then most likely no.
Q: Which GApps do you recommend?
A: To each his own. I use the regular GApps that CM hosts on my Nexus 7 2013 and PA GApps on my Nexus 5. Both works really well.
Q: What is Exodia?
A: Exodia is my personal kernel that comes with Exodus. It is a minimal MOD kernel that is based on CM's stock kernel. The main MODs in Exodia include Intelliactive & Intellidemand governors, Simple I/O scheduler, Fast Charge support, and a few optimizations.
Q: Can I use another kernel?
A: Yes you can, as long as that kernel is compatible with CM based ROMs.
Q: How often is a build released?
A; The plan is to release one every 7-10 days, depending on feature merges. There may be a few times a build may be late, due to compatibility issues, and lack of time (job related).
Q: Is this CAF or AOSP based?
A: This ROM and kernel is based from CM11. If CM11 is CAF based now, then Exodus and Exodia kernel is CAF based.
Q: Why can't I change the incoming call style anymore?
A: There is a bug present that puts the call buttons behind a transparent navigation bar during an incoming call. This only happens when Fullscreen is selected in that option. It also was there AFTER I removed the option and functions. For now, the option is there but I made a few changes. Until I completely fix the bug, that option is automatically set to Classic, then the preference is locked to keep the user from changing it.

Im loving this rom man, first time running cm based rom on my N5, running it with elementalx cm version.. its working nice till now, I also don't have the problems @Dr.Pagan has or at least I didn't notice them till now..
Good Job and thanks.
Downloading ...... report soon !!!! :silly:
I still see "Retire" on your name haha..
Hi, I try it and I report in few days...
Things are running real nice and smooth so far. Question though since it's CM related, is there any chance at getting the CM Autobrightness Adjustment settings in this rom or are they here and I'm just overlooking it?

Cool thanks. Been using RR on my note 2 for ages.
Can it be flashed on locked bootloader?
no!
---------- Post added at 06:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:42 PM ----------
can someone using this rom tell me please if:
1. left/right cursor arrows are immediately shown when using keyboard (think so as it is a cm feature but in carbon for example you have to press a button first to see them)
2. is it possible to always show volume panel expanded
3. is it possible to assign long-press action to nav bar buttons to show volume panel without using hw volume buttons
all the custom roms i tried don't have the above (especially 2 and 3) and don't feel like unlocking BL again to just check this (also won't have my pc available soon to do that and fast internet connection to download the rom)
well thanks in advance if any can help
Gret rom before in lg g2, now in z3c. Thanks.

Hi,
Re your questions:
1. Yes, it's configurable within custom settings
2. Not currently, but it's something I used in the past (via Gravitybox) - I'll look into it....
3. It should be possible to have the "Sound & Notification" menu appear, the back button would close the menu..... Not sure about the panel pop-up
I'll look into it further...
thanks for the answer mate!
actually 2 and 3 and missing radio are the only reasons right now why I'm still running stock + gravity box hope it'll possible to have them in custom roms too soon so i can make the switch (for sure #2 was there in other aosp roms i tried in my previous phone.. xenonhd and mokee for example if i remember right.. so shouldn't be that difficult to add?! #3 don't remember but really need it...)
thanks again bye and good luck with your rom! :good:
ps. i know i could use xposed + GB in custom roms too but if using custom roms i prefer not using xposed if possible
Any way how to increase camera quality in CM based ROMs? Theres too much noise and photos are in really bad shape. Sony Camera is much, much better than stock (Android Camera) one. This is one and only setback which holding me from using any CM based ROM. Thanks for replies in advance.

I feel exactly the same way, CM or CM based roms have better performance and more customization, but very bad camera performance for our z3c devices. Something should solve this drawback but how?
Ambient display not work and pie control have bugs.

** ROM updated to replace incorrect version of ViPER4Android FX control panel - you may wish to download the updated zip if you want to enable the full V4A features.....**
I'm still unable to V4A FX working, when I check driver status it reports back:
Driver version: 2.3.4.0
NEON Enabled: No
Enabled: No
Status: Abnormal
Audio Format: Unsupported
Processing: No
Sampling Rate: 0
Tried force enabling V4A in the respective tabs, no effect
I've also tried Selecting FX compatible mode, but that completely disables the audio outright
It doesn't keep prompting to install/update driver though
i can see some of emails. but unfortunatelyi in some emails i only see a white screen.
any solution for this?

Check if AudioFX is installed /system/priv-app/audiofx - try renaming the file from .apk to .bck and reboot....
Let me know if this works....
Thanks!

Thanks

Didn't appear to work, still said the above on driver status and no different audio effect.
The file inside was a .bak file, not an .apk. Still renamed to .bck though and rebooted. Strange
Otherwise it's a brilliant ROM!

Strange.... can you check that lib4a_fx_ics.so is in /system/lib/soundfx
Also, did you flash the updated ROM zip from the OP link (*44A-updated.zip)?
Thanks!
trying this rom right now, it seems the best to me among all the aosp based ones I tried so far in terms of built-in features :good: thanks for this!
only things I am really missing so far are the expanded volume panel I asked about in the first page and especially the possibility to show volume panel using nav bar buttons ;(
is that something you can add maybe, or to see it included eventually we will have to wait RR to add it? because in this case, it may take ages I guess... if it will ever come! :crying:
(I really need this feature because, apart from saving volume hw buttons life, when I am on my mountain bike and the phone is inside the bag on top of the bike and I am listening to some music with headphones, I don't have access to the lateral hw volume buttons, but only to the screen, so I really miss stock + Gravity Box because with that feature I can see volume panel and change music volume just using the nav bar buttons on the screen without that, in RR, right now I can't change volume at all ;( ) (and I don't have remote volume controls on the headphones of course...)
other thing is a quick 2g-3g switch quicktile (again present in GB) as I switch very often between "only 2g" and "only 3g" (right now I have to long press the "data connection" tile, and from the menu that appears choose my favourite network mode, which takes longer.. and actually it is still not a only 2g / only 3g switcher, but preferred network mode)
last thing is the fm radio, but this is missing in all custom roms, so I think we will have to give up about it
will test and see about any bugs and battery life!
about bugs, only thing I noticed so far (if it is a bug!) is that after applying the black theme that comes with the rom and rebooting, I get the notification panel (quicktiles part) correctly themed (black), but the upper part of the status bar remains with the original bluish color.. is that intended to be like that? or something that should be fixed? (see screenshot)
thanks again for this in the meantime, very very nice and promising rom!! :cyclops:
