Comprehensive list of LG G2 problems and solutions - G2 General

The aim of this thread is to list all common problems (common = happens for many people) with the LG G2, in order to provide an easy place to find solutions for these problems, once we'll have such solutions. This will also be a good place to warn people interested in buying this phone (don't get me wrong it's a great phone, but some of these problems might be deal breakers to some).
My hope is that with time, all of these problems will be addressed by LG or XDA developers, in order to make them a non-issue.
List is updated to October 8th, 2013.
Problems:
1. Camera (stills): poor quality at low light.
2. Camera (video): poor quality due to shaky focus (the video is stable due to OIS, but the focus is shaky). Moving objects appear blurry. Also blurry image at low light. (link).
3. External speakerphone - very low decibel levels (link).
4. A2DP Bluetooth - problems maintaining stable connection with many devices. Also poor sound quality when connected to many devices (link)
5. Random reboots - when trying to get out of the lock screen (link).
6. Device fluidity - excellent at first days/weeks, but then deteriorates considerably to the point the device becomes laggy (S4 like). It's possible this has been exaggerated, but for now I'm keeping this as a possible common problem.
7. Screen oversensitive to touch - makes it hard to type correctly on the keyboard or browse the internet (link)
8. Overheating issue - especially when gaming with CPU intensive games (but also with GPS navigation), after several minutes the device throttles down the CPU to cool down (many threads about this problem).
9. Knock-ON feature doesn't work reliably - sometimes needs many taps to wake from sleep.
10. Choppy youtube playback - especially HD content (link)
Solutions:
1. None.
2. None.
3. Possible solutions: (A) mod to increase sound level output (link), (B) use Viper4Android (3rd party app that allows to increase sound levels).
4. None.
5. None.
6. None.
7. None.
8. None.
9. None.
10. None.
(I will constantly update this thread).

I just got mine and noticed moving subjects would come out blurry, I changed the uniform auto to 800 and that seemed to fix it.

Great idea for a thread, but I think common is perhaps a bit misleading. The commonality of the random reboot and device 'fluidity' are extremely anecdotal. In addition, the term poor, in certain cases, are possibly inaccurate as well. For example, low light situations are going to be difficult for any phone camera and the results may be mediocre by point and shoot camera standards or a dedicated enthusiast level camera, but likely about average for a smart phone camera. So to consider them poor would entail having an actual comparison with other smart phones in the same conditions.
I'm completely behind this thread and think it might deserve to be stickied if it can live up to it's potential, but just wanted to help the thread along by trying to keep things reasonably accurate and realistic.
Is there a thread for point 6, "Device fluidity - excellent at first days/weeks, but then deteriorates considerably to the point the device becomes laggy (S4 like)."?
My experiences with the G2 AT&T are:
1. Camera puts too much faith in it's OIS to get a sharp picture and so the shutter speed is too slow, and focus wanders too long, so images are blurry. If you are taking a picture of a pet or young child and you get them to be still for a second and take the picture, the preview image of when you actually pressed the shutter will be sharp but the actual picture taken is a second later and not the shot you wanted.
2. Video suffers from what appears to be a similar scenario of wandering focus, too slow shutter speeds, too low ISO.
3. Viper4Android and similar apps resolve the sound issue to my satisfaction and then some. I don't use my phone's speakers for anything critical beyond speakerphone and I've not had any issue with it, but Viper4Android solves the low volume as far as I'm concerned so I would consider that a solution. Indeed it involves a third-party app, so it's not a resolved problem. (On a side note, avoid Beats Audio, Beats by Dre etc., there are better alternatives. It pains me no end to see charlatans and mountebanks making out like bandits.)
4. A2DP is reasonable sound quality for my car but I've not had the chance to compare to other phones. A2DP is notorious for some sort of sound issue, so not sure the G2 is considerably worse than others. From reading the thread it appears most are using their car's BT solutions which are dialed in for Apple products since they are the standard and mature. The wide variety of ROMS used in the phones that people are comparing to their recently released G2 make for a difficult comparison. Some said in the thread they had no problems, some said it was better than previous phones, some said worse.
5. Never had a problem with a reboot ever. Very stable for me; using Cleanrom 1.0 then 1.1.
6. Lag hasn't been getting worse at all. There is your typical lag of when, for example, you scroll down your app drawer quickly with a couple of strong flicks and it has to load up those new icons quickly, but that's not unreasonable and not what I think most people are complaining about. During the first week or so of having the phone, my Swype keyboard while using Next browser was slow to input key entries but it hasn't been a problem since and it's very hard to know what was the exact issue.

4. Not necessarily a common problem to this phone in particular, many phones have AD2P issues.

Problem #6 would be resolved with an update to android 4.3. That version has fs trim that frees up some inactive activities in RAM. It helped greatly with the gnex and nexus7 OG. It also has to do with the LG UI embedded in the phone.

OP we have a problem number 7 to add!
Would it be possible for people to mention the carrier they are using so we can possibly isolate the particular model that might be having problems?

No offense but half the crap listed here is subjective. My device has never under any circumstance rebooted or slowed down. In fact, yesterday it got up to 117°F and the device never slowed down or dimmed the screen. I've had the device for 2 almost 3 weeks and the performance is exactly how it was out of the box...
Edit: Just watched that video and that doesn't happen on my T-Mobile version.

+1 on listing carrier for each one. I am not advocating one carrier over another but I know Verizon tends to insist on lots of checking and device specs (bloat ware also) before they release a phone. So I am curious, especially about the touch screen issue. That said, Verizon also slows down android updates which sort of sucks.

solution for problem number 1 is use the flash lol. Like all mobiles it has limited range

3. I've added Viper as a possible solution.
4. I've read that thread again, out of 13 testimonials, 62% report problems (disconnections, lack of bass, overall poor quality, important functions not working, etc.), while only 38% reported it to be as good as previous device (or better). So I think that for now, A2DP is a legitimate common problem with the LG G2. I will keep a close eye on that thread.
6. There is no single thread that deals with the lag issue, rather many anecdotal stories within different threads...

Just to add, on VZW. No lag since release date. Never had a reboot. Stream BT audio through my car and its always clear and never dropped. Just like someone that goes to a great restaurant and thinks they had a bad meal...they tell everyone the restaurant isnt good, even though the majority of people were satisfied but never told everyone about it. Just dont like people reading these prior to buying and saying, ugh, this phone has all these problems!

Thank you for starting this thread and for your reassessments and improvements to the thread.
As a few have mentioned, those that have an issue skew the results within a thread. If a thread is started by someone with an issue, for example the drifting screen contact points, and there are no replies from anyone saying they don't have a problem then it's too early to make an assumption as to how big a problem it is for the whole community. How do we even know for sure the person with the screwy screen didn't drop the phone?
Anyway, you rightly didn't want to add that problem to the list of more common issues and I agree.
Any idea what the causes for the lag are turning out to be? I recall something about Verizons OTA update being coincidental or perhaps a Google update was it? I don't recall.
Keep up the good work.

I've seen "memory management" as one suggestion, but too early to tell for sure.

There are several issues with the camera. However the fact that panorama is lower resolution and quality (file size) than normal pictures seems like a bug. Also if you edit a photo the quality is reduced.

Verizon - Stock Rooted.
The only issue I have that is on your list is the camera stuff. I turn off IA and that helps it take pictures faster. Making sure to touch the screen where I want it to focus helps sometimes. Last weekend, I was at an anniversary party at a restaurant at noon. I had the flash on auto and went off most of the time, and still only 1 in 3 pics were worth keeping. Most pictures were slightly out of focus or grainy even on posed shots.
Am I the only one with slow/weak GPS lock? My G2 is almost as bad as my GNex was. If it's cloudy or I'm in my house sometimes it won't lock at all. Last night I stood in my livingroom next to a window and it took over a minute to finally lock on to 5 of 11. I put the S4 right next to it and it locked in under 10 seconds on 17 of 22. I use the GPS Status app to watch it lock. I have installed Faster Fix but that didn't help it any. Since I haven't seen anyone else mention GPS, I might just have a bad unit.

[Q] [HELP FROM ALL DEVS.] Camera low-fps issue

Hello! This is a request to all the developers for Galaxy S II. You probably already know that some Galaxy S II suffer from the problem of low-fps (stuttering) with low-light conditions. That is resolved with the firmware of the camera of the Samsung I997 (Infuse 4G), but putting this firmware, the LED flash does not work anymore. You can change the firmware?
The firmware does help is the SIEG03. Camera firmwares topic here on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098834&page=110
Thank you in advance if can help.
Behind SGS2's Camera: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4686/samsung-galaxy-s-2-international-review-the-best-redefined/9
It would be great if some of devs look at this fw and changes what is problem so flash stop working
Indeed, i would be great +1
I sent a private message to Chainfire and email to Supercurio. I hope they meet!
Great thread! SC cameras are the ones that have low light framerate issue. If someone resolves the flash issue it will be great.
Is this the same thing as the low-light autofocus laggy thing?
I made a video at my friends birthday in a nightclub and it's crap! Had to delete it! Blurring and lagging every few seconds!
I know potatoman might do something about it but he's busy at uni now, I'm kinda surprised nobody has jumped on this issue. One of the big reasons I got the S2 was the camera...turns out it's not that good
Yes. Its that problem. And is laggy beacuse of some galaxy s2 camera modules have some bad firmware. The SIEGO3 fix the suttering in video but remove the led flash of the videos and we cant use it like assisted lamp for autofocus. If someone implement in the firmware, our problem is solved.
+1
It would be great! Thanks
Maybe someone who knows cyanogen can tell him to tell samsung to fix it. I mean he does work for them now

Maybe Samsung are aware of the framerate issue... they should be considering how many of us have this problem, but before they can release the firmware it proberly need to be tested ect so takes time.
Im using the infuse 4G firmware & more than happy to plod along with it, until a fix is released by either a Dev or Samsung.
I had a Galaxy S before i got the S2, so having no light in video isn't to much of a problem for me, the camera flash works which is more important, even without the pre focus light the camera still locks on 99% of the time in low light.
TBH that pre focus light of the orginal cam firmware was annoying as hell to some people, as it use to blind them before the flash kicked in lol.
Anyways im happy with having constant 30fps in either 720p or 1080p without any framerate problems.
The well-known dev's are unlikely to respond to PMs as they'd get hundreds\thousands a day, mostly from noobs, so unless they're from people they already know, I wouldn't expect a response. Plus a lot of them don't frequent XDA as it's turned into a noobfest where the "popular" devices are involved.
You could try posting over on the Cyanogen forums.
Steve (Cyanogen) is not likely to be in a position to "tell" Samsung to fix anything, and certainly not for a device that is as old as the SGS2 is now.
You could try logging a fault with Samsung themselves, they have been known to respond, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Just a heads up that while I'd love to help with this, I don't experience the issue myself, so I wouldn't even be able to test if my fix would work or not. I'm also not comfortable with my code being flashed- my firmware modding capabilities are limited at best... and flashing a bad camera firmware can be irreversible.
Sorry guys, good luck finding someone else who can help though.

Potential Buyer - some questions

I'm considering getting an Amaze 4G from Wind Canada this week and I just had a few questions:
Bootloader - I don't intend to root or install ROMs on it for quite some time (I've already done my fair share of rooting on my current phone). I do however, want the option to be able to root and install ROMs on the phone for whenever HTC abandons the Amaze 4G (hopefully not for a good while) and I want to update it myself. While a locked bootloader probably doesn't mean no custom ROMs, based on my experience with my current locked bootloader phone - it makes things harder.
I've seen reports that the Wind version has a locked bootloader. I've also seen mixed statements about the ability to unlock it. Is it or is it not possible?
General opinions - What has your experience been with the HTC Amaze 4g? Would you recommend it? Why and why not? I'd just like to be aware of any shortcomings this phone has as well as users general feeling about it and anything else I should know.
Thanks for the help!

It is possible to unlock the bootloader but it seems hit or miss with Telus and Wind users.
It's a solid built device with incredible specs. But it does have some minor flaws.
The screen bleed is my #1 pet peeve.
Issues with wifi and bluetooth have also been reported.
The battery is much better than any other device that I've encountered.
I can go about a full day with moderate use before having to charge my device.
Results may vary depending on individual conditions.
Camera is great quality, but audio for video camera sucks! It seems to have some kind of high pitch feedback or squeel to it. Hard to explain.
I don't care with the method to access the microsd card. You must remove the battery cover to remove it. Some phones don't require this. But not all phones have the antenna in the battery cover either. It's intimidating to me at least to be removing the battery cover over and over again just to remove/replace the sdcard. Maybe if I somehow mess up the antenna HTC will send me a new one?
That's all that I can think of. I like to think that I'm unbiased but actually I'm quite bitter toward HTC because of their reaction to the open source kernel that isn't fully open. They openly refused to release the wifi drivers and we can't easily update the kernel. So this so called "developer friendly" device is anything but. That being said... we probably won't be seeing much development for this device until HTC changes their attitude.
On WIND here and unlocked my bootloader yesterday it works fine.
not sure about BT, but probably the same cause as the wifi problems.
CASES cause the signal for wifi to drop significantly. I'm using a TPU case and wifi sucks balls. But once i remove it, BAM~! strong signals. I would like to add that my wifi signal on my amaze is stronger then the gs2 that i used for a couple days before giving it to my sister. However, gs2 connects faster like... 2 secs faster lol
I actually wrote a review on the Amaze and I included a video. I will post the link to it. If it is not allowed, mods please remove it.

I really like this phone, much better industrial design than the Samsung. I've rooted it and am using Crackeyes latest ROM which is very clean and stable, everything seems to work. Battery life is much better than my last phone (HD2) and I ponied up and got the Anker battery & charger which seems to last about 30-40% longer than the stock. I have noticed that certain apps will drain the battery very quickly, I put on a loan calc app and overnight it sucked the battery dry, about 40% worth.
My only beef is with the wifi calling feature & I'm not sure if this is phone or tmo related but there is lots of latency and artifacts when using this. You can tell the person on the other end is struggling to decipher what I'm saying, it's kind of like the old satellite phones where you talk and there is a half second delay so you end up talking over the other person.
Other than that it's got great ID, rock solid performance, a great camera, screen, no wifi issues that I can tell, it's all good.

I picked up the HTC Amaze 4G from Wind Mobile today, and I've got to say, coming from a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000, I was very impressed.
Back in my SGS, I was a custom ROM enthusiast and tried almost every ROM that XDA had to offer for that handset. I found myself using CM7 and MIUI the most on the SGS, so I was diving into this HTC Amaze 4G knowing that I wouldn't have the same selection of custom ROMs.
The bootloader at htcdev should work for Wind and Mobilicity now (pretty sure they recently updated). Within hours of bringing this phone home, I unlocked the bootloader, installed CWM, and flashed a bunch of ROMs and I must say, even though the selection is not as great as the SGS, the work being done here at XDA for the HTC Amaze 4G is spectacular.
This phone is very smooth. However, I found that my Samsung Galaxy S was able to achieve smoother scrolling through the homepages (it ran on MIUI and had scripts to optimize performance and RAM management) than the HTC Amaze 4G on stock Sense UI (probably due to all the widgets and the scrolling animation). Once I flashed the BeastROM with the AOSP look, everything was as smooth as butter right off the bat.
The build quality is unlike any other Android I've seen, and while it may weigh more than other phones in this tier (Samsung Galaxy S II for example), it feels like a very solid and premium product when you hold it in your hand - this means that it'll probably be less prone to drops, but when they do drop, expect dents and cracks. Also, one thing I love about this phone is the notification LED, which can be set to flash on certain alerts, etc.
While the screen may not be as vibrant and colourful as Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus, the Super LCD screen is still very beautiful and holds its own. The camera is one of the best I've seen on a mobile phone.
I've only had this device for about 5 hours (stock HTC) and a little less than that circling through the custom ROMs, but I can already assure you that this handset is no slouch. The screen bleed from the backlit soft buttons will annoy some users, but it's something that doesn't bother me much.
I picked up this handset from Wind Mobile for $99 on the $29 monthly plan with unlimited talk, text, and data, and it's awesome.
Can more of you guys confirm crappy voice quality while doing video, and the 'death grip' issue like on Sensation? I'm coming from sensation and wondering if it's worthwhile to switch; and Amaze seems to have the same problems. Camera would be amaze's best asset - would you say?
Just got this and am loving so far. One question - is it just me or does the Wind version not have the same camera app as the other versions (the T-mobile)? It looks like the old HTC camera app and I don't see any of those fancy settings that I've seen in video reviews for this. Quality is amazing though...

I haven't experienced the death grip issue on either the Sensation or the Amaze. The sound on video is almost like a feedback noise (at least that what it sounds like to me) However, I still have my Sensation and I love them both. I really love the build quality and weight of this phone and the camera takes such nice pictures. I couldn't be happier.
Definitely NOT being sent from my HTC Amaze4G until Christmas Day.....Okay it is
The amaze is an excellent build, the weight of it makes it feel solid, snappy quick, the camera is excellent, actually has replaced my digital, and has a beautiful screen . . . Coming from the hd2 this thing rock, had to replace one cause I borked the USB port but neither one has had the creak some have, and both have had screen bleed but it's so light it's barely noticeable.

Also in true HTC fashion they used different screens, my first had the same display as my second but didn't have gorilla glass and scratched real easy, my second has gorilla glass or something like it cause it's nearly impossible to scratch

I've used WiFi calling from my home WLAN since the device update and it's worked great. Have you tried on other WiFi networks? Also, mine is still unrooted with stock ROM (obviously), and I've heard that because HTC hasn't released the WiFi drivers there may be some WiFi issues with aftermarket ROMs. Have you tried with the stock ROM?
In every other sense though, I agree. This is a phenomenal piece of hardware, and I really like the camera (much of it I'm sure due to the camera app...lots of fun toys!). Unfortunately mine is on "loan" from T-Mobile, so I'm not ready to root or play with it yet. I can only imagine how amazingly this phone would run on something like CM9. *drool*
Since I don't have enough posts here yet, can't post a link, but I've reviewed the phone on mytwistedbrain_DOT_com if you're interested.

Received the phone, pretty disappointed...

Hey there.
Just received my Oneplus 2 yesterday pretty happy overall but having some issues with couple things.
First, I travel a lot so I use Fly Delta app quite a bit. For some odd reason this application will not open on my Oneplus 2. Anyone have the same problem?
Second, my wifi download speeds are pretty terrible. I get about 1/5th of the available speed. I did a side by side speed with Oneplus 2, ZTE Axon and S6. Oneplus always gets around 9-10mbps as opposed to the other phones (they get ~50mbps)
Last but not least I find OnePlus quite a bit slow compared to ZTE Axon (which has the same exact hardware) and way slower than my S6. Apps open a lot slower, information takes a lot longer to load, browsing is laggy. At this point, I am pretty disappointed and the phone is not living up to its hype Oneplus makes is out to be.
Anyone else having the same issues mentioned above? Any help will be greatly appreciated, if anyone knows how to fix any of the issues mentioned above.

There's an OTA update(Oxygen 2.0.1) that improves things.I'm not sure if it fixes the WiFi issue, but it enhances the overall perfomance.

I heard about that update and have been checking for the system update all day but nothing yet.
Found a way to download the entire 2.0.1 rom, will do a clean flash and report back.
You have to install it.
After 2.01 everthing seams to improve

Guys, I too received my OP2 just yesterday. Very happy with the phone and its the best anyone could ask.
Just one thing that I couldn't figure out that, there is absolutely no option to turn on the flash during taking the photos!!
Yes, flash doesn't light up automatically while taking photos and there's no option to turn it on manually.
I know it sounds silly. But does anyone else also have the same problem?

Stereo (Dual Speaker) Mod?

Just recently upgraded from the Note 3 to our beloved v10, and I love the change myself. Never did like TouchWiz anyway. I am no stranger to customization and tinkering under the hood with the phone's capabilities, and I was curious on whether or not anyone had any leads into modifying our mixer_paths.xml file to make sounds from the left channel route by default to the top speaker. I will be looking into making it work as best as I can, but I was interested if anyone else has tried and succeeded before I go wild on attempting to make it happen.
Loving this closely knit (such a seemingly minute number of people makes it feel more intimate doesn't it?) community so far, and I am looking forward to see what all we can do as far as development is concerned. I believe that with an official CM, we will see some old favorites make their way into our phone. I can only venture a guess that we will undoubtedly see some Slim and PA variants in the very near future as well as some custom stock builds. Currently running the listed debloated and debranded stock and enjoying it. Who knows, maybe we will get some custom kernels to play with and make the short battery life issue I keep seeing about an end-user issue as opposed to the current belief that it is a manufacturer issue.
The way I see it, as I do with each phone I get, is that we pay a decent chunk of money for these devices; let's see what these bad boys can do. [emoji12]
"Land your plane" tldr; Anyone successfully make this phone play audio out of both the top and bottom speaker by default, thus giving us true stereo sound when listening to media?

I had horrible battery life when I first got my V10, but I did 2 factory resets (One was an accident) and the battery life is great now.
Reset and DO NOT allow google to restore the phone, manually install the apps and sync them.
Myself and quite a few others think that the restoring of data from a different phone is what is causing the bad battery life on our phones.
I normally can get 5 hours screen on time in a day if I need to.
I usually have 2.5 hours screen on time and end the day with ~40% battery remaining.
As far as stereo sound out the earpiece... That speaker is much quieter than the bottom speaker and I do not think it could ever be made to work as you want.
You might be able to get it to output to both speakers at once, but I do not think the top one would ever be loud enough to hear.
Good luck trying though, please prove me wrong.

I have been working on this on and off since I got the phone... Came from note3, with a quick stop at the nexus6... Had the stereo mod on my note as well (shinto kernel). I work on it, (found nothing yet...), then forget for a bit, and try some more... But yes, feel free to go all out... I just don't have the time or patience anymore... Lol

How did it go?
Somebody managed it for the LG G3 so I added the same line of code to our mixer_paths.xml file but it didn't work.
Heres the thread for the G3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/mod-play-media-sound-rear-speakers-t2964956

disappointed so far

Hi, Apologise in advanced for a rant but, surely I cant be the only person having issues with this phone? I have black version, in UK with EE. I decided to not get the iPhone XS MAX for this, last year I had the iPhone x it was super fast and efficient. But so far ive had this device 48 hours and im guttered i bought it so far. Im having a lot of issues with fps drops, if I have apps open it goes slow, for example Pokemon go, I find just spinning the ball starts making it lag, compared to my girlfriends s8 and my old iphone, its just constantly feeling unsmooth and dropping frames.
Sometimes the keyboard lags if I have a few apps open, with the specs inside im unsure how it can be failing this bad and lagging for me. Im actually close to sending this back to EE within 14 days, if this doesnt get fixed I cant stick with this for 2 years...
Ive seen a few people talking about performance mode within battery settings but I dont see this, I also dont understand why when im on the phone, notifications arent popping up sometimes, I also have this stupid notification that I cant get rid off, about showing notifications on screen or something.
At the moment, not having a good time at all, is anyone else feeling the same? my version is EMUI 9.0.0.108(C432E10R1P16)
I just dont uderstand how a phone for this cost with the great specs it has can be failing for me so much when multitasking. Especially when watching everyones YouTube videos before launch its running perfectly smooth... I just dont understand it. Maybe its my device? Maybe its just because im used to quick and effecient iphone/samsung devices and this is lacking
Anyone else having issues?
EDIT: I don't understand why, but since making this post, I've had absolutely. No issues with the device, its ran super smooth exactly as it should. In my opinion, pokemon go has ran perfectly. I love this phone, I don't want rid of it and it has so much potential, but I need this performance consistently, not just sporadic where its good for a few hours then suddenly bad again, I've since learned I'm stuck on update 108 apparently there's already a new one out but not with EE yet, maybe they've fixed some. Issues, I couldn't find a change log anywhere
Don't see any of this. I am used to using iPhone (although not X) for work and 20 pro is so much faster
I wish it would be understood that software must settle after first setup for a few days 3-4 avg. Same goes for after a reset
You saying that is slower than S8 is VERY worrying as that phone to me was considerably slower than S9+ or Note 9 and both S9+ and Note 9 were still pretty slow and laggy for me (and a lot of dropping frames) I was expecting an upgrade in terms of speed from Note 9 to Mate 20 Pro :/. Fastest phone I've used is Oneplus 6 and it was waaay faster and smoother than Note 9.
I'll let you know next week how mine is. Did you by any chance do a clean set up (installing and configuring everything from scratch) or did you use the app/feature to clone everything from previous phone?
Same thing here
Occasional keyboard lags, touch latency lag, that annoying notification
Apart from this it's a very good phone
I really hope we can achieve root at some point soon, as now I've got this all setup, I'm starting to miss the additional features root offers....
Clean install, it's weird and this probably sounds so dumb, but when I'm outdoors on pokemon go it feels choppy compared to indoors... However maybe it's not the phone and its an issue with pokemon go. Pubg ran fine, bare in mind you can only. Use low graphics until a later update haha.
I also heard a few people saying that for some reason over a few days it gets better so see what happens

Yes I'm finding lots of issues with software too. Which is a shame because I love everything else. I'm not finding too much lag but I have notice when YouTube is in PIP things do lag.
The camera app switching between wide and telephoto lens is very laggy and hangs... It even sometimes hangs when taking a picture
3rd party launchers are pretty much a no go, there either crash and don't work at all or work with some bugs.
I sometimes get notifications for WhatsApp etc and where the body of the message is suppose to be is blank
I'm finding apps are being closed a lot and not utilising the ram.
So your not the only one, the software has a lot of jank.
Apparently the 108 build isn't the latest and theres a 202 build that's suppose to be the official release version and fixes things. Im going to wait and see if this drops in the next few days and see if it sorts it out

Theres a good chance pokeman hasn't been optimised for emui 9 or the kirin 980 yet
I also got from EE yesterday and am slightly under whelmed. However i haven't had any keyboard lag and the phone for the most part has been fast. The facial recognition had however been hit or miss, the 4k video is abysmal and FHD isn't too great either. My previous htc u12 seems to have a much better camera for both photo and video although the Huawei had more options. The most annoying thing so far is the slide down on home screen that brings up the search bar. Rules out any scrollable widget (Google schedule or bookmarks) s it keeps going to the search function while scrolling. Going to test the camera properly at a gig in the week alongside U12. If it isn't better, it's going back I'm sorry to say. It does charge very quickly though.
The charging is fantastic, super fast... The weird thing I done a benchmark with antutu it got the top device for benchmark literally number 1. So no. Doubt the power is within the phone it just has to be the software. Again sounds dumb but since doing the benchmark the phones been perfect. Very. Smooth no. Issues it's just so hit and miss sometimes it's perfect, other times slightly slow. I noticed with the wide angle camera it. Lags when changing too
Just switched from my old S8 and I'm absolutely stunned with sleek performance of M8 20 Pro. Got my black mob from ee. However once updated I've switched Nova on and removed some unused apps. As previously said I'd performed factory reset and check all once again.
Wait for the final os update and for apps to catch up. Keep the phone for 3-4 weeks and if your issues aren't resolved, just return it (guessing most of you have a 30 day return on it). Just stop whining like children about resolvable software issues.
I had the P20 Pro and loved the hardware but hated the software. Lots of small bugs and annoyances everywhere so after some months I could not stand it anymore. Very tempted by the Mate 20 Pro but am afraid I will hate the software once again

Sorry but it's not whining like children. The software should be polished and work flawless just like the hardware. There's will be updates but no guarantee the bugs will be fixed

with EE as I opened a new contract I only have 14 days, im hoping it turns out well im loving it, its just the issues I mentioned above, its weird, because sometimes its amazing, since I done a stress test on an app and a benchmark its been performing better, its weird.
Sometimes its the best phone ive had, sometimes it just lags and feels like the worst.
I would love some updates before 14 days to reassure me as I do like this phone. I was more interested if others have the same issue
Same boat here pal love the phone but the software is a let down also a lot of stuff missing like AI cinema scan thing.

But we live in reality, where no phone comes up without bugs. For example, name me a phone that came out this fall and didn't need a patch after release to fix bugs?

Yes we also live in a reality where some people don't want to spend £1000 on a product that doesn't work properly, and lose the opportunity to either get money back or try something else on the off chance it might be fixed in the future.

Have to agree the phone is great but the missing software features (ai cinema, 3d scanning) are annoying. Neither are essential but when a product is launched as including them and a fair chunk of the launch event was devoted to showing how they work id at least expect them to be present!
I've been using the phone for 24 hours and my feelings are mixed. I love the design and size of the device, battery is amazing but the software seems like prerelease.
I've had random sound pops when the phone is on silent, can't use launchers properly with the gestures (stock launcher is terrible), no notification settings for gmail so I can't see how many unread emails I have, no thought on how notifications will show with the notch and zero customisation of the status bar to make more space, it's like the notch has wiped out a feature of android displaying your notifications, no video effects, seems bad to me that review units had it to sell the phone but its not on retail units. I know updates will come but they have to be checked by the carrier which could take a while. At this point I'm not sure whether to stick with it or admit the phone isn't for me.
