[Q] when themer is set as default launcher does the native launcher gets killed? - Themer General Discussion

The situation is with HTC Sensation
Im on sesne a rom.
Im using themer as default launcher
as sensation has puny 768 MB ram (around 580 is usable )
The default HTC sense (HTC Launcher) is still in RAM thus causing Themer launcher to reload everytime when a memory hungry activity was done
(like extensive browsing/reddit )
Afaik the HTC Sense is a system app and themer is user app and ADJ values varies accordingly with system apps given more priority
Is there anything i can do to make sure that htc sense stays asleep when themer is active ?
Also Themer wont modify the lockscreen ? (like anyother launcher ?)
(i suspect HTC sense not being killed because the lockscreen which is part of sense launcher is still intcat )

Are you rooted?

Yes I am.. And probably I can convert themer as system app thus making themer having same priority as that of htc sense.. But checking for alternatives

smooth scroll in app list like og evo??

I've searched around and can't find an answer so it would be great if someone could help or point me in the right direction.
When you in the app menu/app list on the e3d its a page scroll, no more no less... with the og evo it was a smooth scroll and speed determined by strength of the finger slide.... anyway to get that on the evo3d?
Thanks!
That's because the 3vo is Gingerbread and the Evo was Froyo. If you upgraded your Evo to GB than its app drawer would behave the same as the 3vo.
gotcha, that makes sense. well, anyway to get that scroll back??
It is sense 3.0. No way to change it as of now. Not sure if a custom rom will do it either once full root is achieved. Best thing to do is use another launcher like launcher pro, adw, etc. You will lose all your sense Widgets tho. Only way around it right now

You can hit menu in the app drawer and use a list type with a smooth scroll and scroll bar

Download adw ex. Way better than sense and battery smooth

Maybe if you upgraded to Mikfroyo or another Sense 2.1+ ROM. The stock update didn't do this, it's because of Sense 3 not Android 2.3...
when we get full root, it will be possible to diable the "pagination" in the apps list.
a patch for that has been available on Synergy rom for the Evo 4G, and could very possibly be ported to the Evo 3D

Sense crash and restart

Anybody else having this problem. It is usually when I exit an app like a game and all I see is the HTC logo until sense reloads.

I do. All the time...

I've had that happen a couple of times, but not enough to care. Generally (I think) it is because something is hogging RAM or ROM or something and Sense shuts off to help the phone run more smoothly. You should look at your task manager to see what's running right now and see if there's anything sucking a lot of RAM or ROM. Could be an issue I suppose.
Is there a way to make it where sense won't shut down but other apps shut down when the phone is low on memory.

I looked at the task manager and the game I was playing was using 210mb of ram and no other apps were open.

Those who are having this problem, do you have another launcher installed?
I had that problem on my Thunderbolt but haven't had that happen on my Rezound yet.

I think I might let me see and uninstall it and test a Lil
Edit: I did have launcher pro installed. Haven't had time to test to see if it still happens

That is normal. Sense closes to free up resources. I don't know if you can block it from happening, but if you do, your game will probably lag.

When we get full root/s-off I bet there will be a way to force the launcher to stay in memory. You can do it with launcher pro. I am not sure however if it is a root only feature.
The game was lagging some then stopped. I guess that's when sense closed.

Sense still closes allot. I willjust hit the home button from my browser and it will show HTC and load sense.

what other apps do you have installed? Something else might be hogging memory. You can use system panel to see everything that is running (including core processes).
I got about 180 apps and I don't know what one cutoff be doing it. None of them use much ram. Sense uses the most at about 100~220mb

how many widgets are on your home screen??? Sense never runs higher than 60-65mb for me.
This has never happened to me before. Even when I was using the sense launcher.
sense is using 161 mb right now

I got pulse widgets and weather widget. some power widgets and spotify and music widgets.

Just checked on sense, and using 56mb. Maybe take off some widgets or hard reset. I've never heard of sense using that much memory.

launcher lag?

My 3devo is very laggy, my evo 4g seemed to handle multi tasking much better. I've been to sprint multiple times about this issue and today they told me it's probably because I'm using a launcher. I've been using launcher pro since way back with my cliq never had any problems. Just wanna know if anyone out there using a launcher is experiencing anything.
I don't like launchers, but whenever I would use any launcher, I found there was little to no lag. I'd have slight lag on occasion, but that's from having too much stuff running.
I use launcher pro and have absolutely no lag at all

Used to use LP and even paid for it a long with ADW but converted to Go launcher a long time ago. It seems like the go team releases more frequent bug fixes and updates than other launchers.
At least give a few others a shot first. I had the Evo 4g for a little over a year and it's a beast but the 3d does seem to do better.

uninstall the launcher on the stock htc sense laucher remove ALL widgets icons make sure theres no live wallpaper ect ect then reinstall launcher should fix your problem
The problem is that Sense is a complete RAM hog. You're losing over 400MB from it and its processes alone. Adding another UI skin on top of that is only going to slow things down even more and take up more memory. You should definitely consider an AOSP ROM (I usually have about 600MB of free RAM at most times and absolutely no lag using Trebuchet Launcher on kushdeck's latest ICS alpha. Or you could just root, install an OC kernel and use a CPU governor to overclock your phone (but your battery life will be terrible). I hope this helped a bit, definitely look into the dev section for more info.

ADW Launcher dock custom icons disappearing

I'm having a problem with custom icons in the launcher.
When I turn the phone in landscape and back, the icons either return to the standard ones, or disappear all together.
Before:
After:
Or after 2:
If you open the icon settings dialog however, the custom icon is still there!
Any ideas?

Its because of ram issue, use ram manager in which you can lock the launcher

Didn't work. My phone also started to go funky after a reboot, might be a conflict with the data2sd script...

Anyone's got the solution? It's really annoying...

Ok, changing the icons and then going into adw settings and choosing close and restart seems to have solved it.

[Q] MeanROM 1.93 - Resize issues

I love the new Rosie size that comes with this new version of MeanROM. However, I am having trouble with resizing widgets on it. Specifically, I have tried 3 RSS readers (google and two others). Each one has an issue if I try to resize it when it's on the top row. It causes Sense to enter an infinite loading loop. I haven't had this issue with friend steam or the HTC calendar widgets when resizing them. The only way I can break the loading loop is to uninstall the app/widget by going through the settings drop down. As long as I don't resize while on the top row i don't have any issues. Unfortunately, this also defeats having some of the extra space the 5 x 4 mod gives.
I did a clean wipe before installing.

u should have just posted this in the mean rom thread!! thats what they are there for.. opps sorry boss u need atleast 10 posts to post in rom threads.. my bad
the 4X5 Rosie is new and Meanrom is the first. Give Mikey some time to work out the kinks. For now, switch to the 4X4 Rosie or don't put your widget in the top row.
Hey, if we don't point out what is causing an issue it won't get fixed.

Mikey has released 2 more updates with more tweaking of the 4X5 Rosie. Try 2.1 and see if that works.
