[Q] Android 4.4 KitKat - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hey there I'm curious to as if our devices will support android 4.4 KitKat because it includes the new API ActivityManager.isLowRamDevice() ... and that it would work on 512 Mb RAM ... What do u think ... and will there be any development for our devices

KitKat
Chck This link it says Kitkat is designed to run on low memory devices which has 512 MB ram.. So will it possible to run Kitkat on our Devices.http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html

i think someone will probably port it for our device if developers gets kernel support and technically yes kitkat is designed to run on 512 mb ram devices

I had doubts say that the kernel used for CM10.2 by mikeioannina could be ported and used for KitKat would it run on that ??

Do you mean that xperia 2011 will get updates to Kitkat?
Sent from my WT19i using Tapatalk

I'd like to have KitKat on my Live, but I doubt Sony will give us an update. I can only see the 2013 lineup getting KitKat.

Maybe it will with a little changes ... Android 4.4 on nexus 4 is running on 3.4 kernel... And we already have 3.4 kernel for our devices.....

Then its niceeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Super but....
I doubt that it will work perfectly on devices with 512 MB RAM:silly:

Kiktak should run well on our devices. maybe our devices are to old, but not very weak. I have the nexus 5 kitkat port on my nexus 4 and it is running very well and uses much less ram, even with a couple of apps running in background it is not taking more than 350 MB (previously android 4.3 was taking somethimes 700MB).

Guys, Bad News and Good News
Android 4.2 ain't Key Lime Pie, it's just an upgraded version of Jelly Bean, hence, still Jelly Bean, we won't get any official Rom, I mean come'on how much do you think a 1GHz Processor and 512 MB ram' Phone handle? Even ICS was a struggle.
Good News is, it's an Upgraded Version of Jelly Bean, so CM probably will Re-Base their Rom to 4.2, same thing applied to PA, AOKP.

I heard Sony wants to make op with everyone because jelly bean is so late. and therefor will bring official 4.2. Not sure but I heard it.

Have you used ICS on a Ray? It runs perfectly well on mine, the problem is not the processor or Ram but the amount of resource hogging bloatware **** that Sony fill phones with ... Get rid of all the crap and the phone handles ICS just fine, it's annoying to hear this old story about the Ray not being powerful enough to run JB etc, yet somehow the V is? Don't believe it just because Sony tell you it.

I wasn't on GB long enough to compare it..
So how come galaxy s i9000 gets jb running great aswell and ray not doing So great? They have the same hardware i think no?
Sent from my ST18i using xda app-developers app
Stop asking.
The 2011 smartphones can perfectly handle JB because they handle ICS.
JB is lighter than ICS.
Sony is just lasy to make the drivers for JB
Perhaps Sony want to focus on its 2012 models. But I sastify ICS with some mods
i think the answer is no.. our ray will not get stock 4.1/4.2 ROM
sony will not support xperia 2011 anymore, from now sony will focus upgrade on xperia 2012
but overall sony did great on upgraded than other brand..
BTW, if you want to keep get android upgrade, next time when buy a phone, consider to buy "google nexus" phone ..

Share your thoughts about Android 5 Key Lime Pie

i openned this thread to share your opinions and thoughts abour KLP ,
do you guys think we can get the update officialy from sony ?
like xperia X10i ?
i would say it could be possible , because sony updated the x10i from 1.6 to 2.1 and they thought to update to 2.2 Froyo , but they skipped the update ,, and suddenly they released 2.3 GB..
you guys think sony skip JB update and bring us KLP ? , because KLP also requires lesser source and hardware
..
99.99% Sony will not make it for us (they don't even fix current bugs). We can only hope custom roms will work without serious bugs.

Don't expect klp officially, tell me onething how could you expect klp officially,If we get custom Rom also I would be happy when it released, may expect release in October...Google planning to release 4.3 in July no major difference in ui but analysts say lot code changes internally...
It won't happen before all Oems upgrade to 4.3 and afaik Google is giving more time to them and about Klp, I doubt it's possibility on any of our 2011 devices if any of hardware requirements change.... And devs have been or only hope since the early days for our devices.. After all, let's be frank.. SONY just gave us ICS.. But devs provided us with 4.2.2, Ubuntu which I personally had not even imagined of on our little devices

Why so many 4.2.1 builds for xu when 4.2.2 is well-adopted

Sorry about such a long title. The question is mainly aimed at developers. At the moment (correct me if I am wrong) 4.2.2 by team Canjica is the latest working cyanogen-based rom for xu. It has not been updated in a while and there are no major working builds out by other devs with 4.2.2, although 4.1s are quite a few and are updated fairly regularly. What is the catch and will this situation likely change? Why do people not fork from Canjica's progress? All but front cam is functional.

Probably because 4.1 are based on Sony stock rom, while 4.2.2 is based on CM and build from source and require a lot more work.

4.2.2 daily use here - seems ok save for front cam and can't account for bluetooth as I'm not using it. It is just as I understand development - it is building on the best towards even better and right now we do have a fairly solid 4.2.2 with sources, meanwhile people keep using earlier stuff for their roms also cyano-based. I'm only hoping everyone is waiting for a 4.4 to go hot.

too difficult too see android 4.4 for our device.. there are 4.2 and 4.3 before kitkat and they are still not here as an android version rom..
but not sure
i believe the most active developer of most of the kernel and rom is no longer that active. while it is good to see kitkat on our mini phone i highly doubt it would even be possible. if its possible you might be looking at a very slow phone due technical constraints of using the updated os
But we can use jellybean.
I know kitkat is better than jellybean

don't think so... the problem is always drivers, and the low specs... let's face it... we love this little device, but is too old.
Hey Guys, Lets Ask nAa To Develop MiniCM Kitkat(4.4) For Our Tiny E10i and U20i...
It would be cool since they say KitKat use less memory, but I guess drivers are hard to find for this tiny device.
Kitkat actually using a RAM compression, like KSM, compcache (a.k.a zRAM), JIT and this is already in CM7 era, before Kitkat
For more info:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...rt-to-devices-with-as-little-as-512mb-of-ram/
Also, this is need a big and fast cpu cycle, so IF your device can handle @ 1Ghz it's not even enough, because ARMv6 (65nm) vs latest ARMv7 (45nm, 28nm on A-15)
And Google already leaving ARMv6 for Android support and for developing Kitkat, we need to hack many System in Android to working in our chipset
I'm happy, because we can run 4.1.2 on X10 Mini
But, for Kitkat, I think we must buy a new device
=)

A stock KitKat? Maybe, if someday Sony is concerned about the 2012 Xperia users, can you imagine? Yeah, me neither.
As it said, there's no official JB for Sola, KitKat, well I really can't see a possibility if it has the update.
I've seen somewhere that only the Z model will have the 4.4 update.
Gotta buy a Z phone or install CM11 which it's not stable at all.

Does google upgrade it's 2012 models to KitKat?
You must realise that software development never look back, and even it can work on those devices it will be too heavy for them to handle.
I could run Windows XP on my Pentium, 4 with half GB of RAM, is that possible with windows 7?

Yes, it's possible. With Windows 7 Starter.
2012 models can handle KitKat with no problem, but Sony it's like any other companies, they stop supporting phones to make people buy the last model, Xperia Z today. But, f*** no, we are xda, our phones can last for many years.
