Thoughts on Aluminum Bumper - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

I have never purchased anything from Ebay before, so I was hoping to get the opinion of those who are more experienced about case purchases from their. I was searching for a nice high quality bumper case, and I found quite a few on Ebay but one of them stood out the most, just seemed a lot more premium than the others (from the pictures) and way more thought out, has all the mic holes unlike some of the others where the one on the bottom corner is covered, even the rubber padding on the inside is engraved with the manufacturer logo (G.LIDER), and comes with a nice little screw cap screwdriver key chain. Hope to get your thoughts on it.
I included some images and here's the link/links:

Edit: after i posted i noticed they put the corner mic cutout on the wrong side lol

Even I thought about buying one of these, but most likely your signal will get destroyed. I would try to find someone who bought one and get a review on it.

Yea that was one of my main concerns about it but cant find a review on one of these or similar, there's quite a few reviews on those full body aluminum cases which I hear drop signal tremendously.

Found a review on the Galaxy Note 2 forum where someone reviews 2 aluminum bumpers, he seems to lose a bar with the bumper on. Might greatly effect my data signal since i only get like 1-2 bars from Verizon at any given place in the Tampa Bay area but not my wifi.

I had a similar metal bumper on my Note 2. The signal definitely decreased and my GPS kept having issues with attaining a lock/maintaining the lock

So actually, I just got mine, not sure if it's the same one, but I see no decrease in signal.
I tried speedtest.net app, but didn't see decrease in speed (at least significant enough).
I mean there was a slight decrease in speed, but that was like around 1~2 Mbps, and I'm still getting around 23 Mbps.

I learned a valuable lesson using metal bumper case, it scratch the trim and cause the paint to peel off. Also, many reported signal drop a bar or two.

I had an aluminum bumper on my iPhone 5 and had horrible signal. I personally would not recommend and aluminum bumper even though they look really nice on the phones

As far as I know the Note 3 doesn't have the phone antenna located in any corner, it is located from the top to the bottom, so there will be no issue in phone signal
Different thing is GPS antenna...

Can you post some pics of it? Yea i don't think its a huge loss in signal, im usually on wifi so it doesn't matter much since i get full bars in all my classes, home and work, might be a problem on 4g since I only get like 1 bar. Does it in any way scratch the device, especially that chrome painted rim around the phone?

It's quite a significant loss in signal. A bar or two. I only had mine on for about a day and I sold it for my N2. In areas where I'd normally get a slightly lower signal, the phone would drop reception altogether. Unusable.

We don't have too many options in good looking bumper cases otherwise i would just buy a plastic one, its either this or the Spigen Neo Hybrid and that flimsy plastic bumper isn't too assuring, a lot of people have gotten it damaged right out of the box and others who have used it previously on their galaxy S4 had it damaged within a couple months, I need something sturdy that will show off the squarish design of the Note 3
Would of been awesome if Belkin made a view case for any other device excluding the iPhone
I want something like this : http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-View-C...96559&sr=1-2&keywords=griffin+iphone+5+bumper
for the Note 3, been searching for a while and cant really find anything similar except for those aluminum bumpers, the closest I have found is the Luvvitt Clearview but its still rounded instead of square and the bumper part is made of TPU.

I started a thread about the Love Mei aluminum bumper. There were members that said they had signal drops, but in my case, I cannot confirm this for my usage.
But the Love Mei is missing the hole on the lower right side of the phone, too. At least they just forgot instead of putting it in the wrong side :silly:

That's actually the temperature/humidity/etc. sensor. you can blow hot air into it and watch the temp rise with any sensor app. If you never use that stuff, I wouldn't think it'd be a big deal. But the reception loss could be a big bummer.

Actually, I drilled a hole in my bumper just this morning. The outcome is unfortunately not so pretty as my newly drilled hole was offset at first, but I think I can live with that.

Weird that they would include a cutout for the barometer but not the mic lol, i would think the mic is a bit more important (phone calls, video calls, videos in general)

Someone asked me almost the same question.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48113076#post48113076
But basically, for me, I saw no signal loss, 4G or 3G or cell signal, or even GPS.
I do use Verizon, which tends to be very good where I live.
Also, it does have black sticker-like things inside so that sides are not scratched.

Gap between bezel and touchscreen glass

Does anyone else's sgs2 have a noticeable gap between the touchscreen glass and the aluminum bezel? Mine has a very noticeable one on the entire left side and bottom. The top and right sides are flush with the bezel. It looks like the glass wasn't cut to spec.
I want to get an idea of how widespread this is. Best buy didn't want to exchange it, and I could probably live with it if I can find a way to keep the dust out.
this is the first of this problem that I've heard. My bezel is flush against the glass. Pesonally, I wouldn't live with it. I would try to exchange it. Even if that means calling AT&T directly.

Mine isn't uniform all the way around. The gap at the top of my phone increases going from left to right, looking at the phone.
It's a small difference, but I do see it capturing dust in the short time I've had it, about 3 weeks.
Thanks for the quick replies. I'm a little hesitant on exchanging because there is always the risk of getting a phone with even more defects.
But at least now I know it's not normal so I don't feel bad when trying to persuade Best buy to let me exchange.
Mine seems flush. If it isnt that much of a hassle would you post a picture of the gap? Im really interested to see it lol.

Same here on my end.
Attached are pictures of my bezel-to-glass gap. As you can see, it's collecting a lot of dust in the 3 weeks I've had it. And this is with a case too.
I'm about to head out to Best Buy. Wish me luck!

No luck. They wouldn't let me exchange because it was functionally okay. Oh well, at least I tried.
At this point I can live with it. The Atrix had many more build quality issues than this phone anyways.

One of my many Infuses had this. It was horrific. The AT&T manager gave me hell and claimed he couldn't see it but I pressed and he eventually caved and exchanged it for me.
Hell take it right to samsung, I would bring it right to them if no one else gives a replacement.
There are several issues. The one most people notice is that by design there is a 1 mm gap between the screen and the bezel. This was designed this way as with many phones because the screen expands and contracts in the heat, so there has to be a little play for it to move. It's normal. Some phones it's more noticeable, and the material they use seems to collect dust a bit more than other phones. I have 2 SGSII ATT versions and 1 SGSII International and all 3 seem to be dust magnets above the earpiece and on the left and right sides in the 1mm gap.
This is completely normal though. If you want a phone without a bezel, get an iPhone, hehe

Don't use that as an excuse.. If they wont take it back Samsung will.. Just call the Samsung 800 number and get a RMA - explain there is a problem in the case integrity, If they say NO, then you have a free shot when it does screw up for any reason. If you want an idea of the true color of it, it's very similar to the red accents on the phone. It's just like a matte shimmer, if that makes sense. It looks even better in person, trust me.
EDIT: Oh, and korm, the color is a little darker than our beloved Scarlet, but it looks awesome with a big Double T on the screen

I wouldn't say big at all. If you've used the Otterbox Commuter before, it's essentially the same size, just a little more protection. And it hugs the phone reeeeaally well. When I got the blue one, I thought the whole 6-prong thing would cause issues and stretch out. But the plastic is extremely strong and the rubber is thin, but super-high quality. I had to take the blue one off a bunch for battery pulls with all of the flashing I've done in the past few weeks. I was afraid it would start to stretch, but it was perfect every time. I expect nothing less from this red one. It's nice. Probably the first case I would say is actually worth the $30. Don't hesitate; just get it. It's worth it
Has anyone noticed the case does not have those 2 tiny holes in the back of the case? They would be just above the S on the back. Im told those 2 tiny holes in the back cover are for the phones antenna, it is said to help the reception.
Has your reception gone down? Check your -db with the cover on verses off.
that is the only thing I am concerned about, reception is -97db here at the house, yup pretty poor but I dont get any dropped calls, hopefully the cover wont cause problems

Blocking those holes does nothing to signal. It's all good. Same thing was asked about the Commuter case from Otterbox. You would essentially cover those holes anyway if you hold your phone when you talk.

Just got mine and put it on. Looks 5 stars! Feel, so far 4 stars, which is pretty good since I never use a case. It's surprisingly thin..... I may change my mind when I'm sober, but very impressed..... Sound, 1star, my creeks like a MoFo. I was hoping the case would relieve me of creeks, not amplify them. Hopefully I installed it wrong. Bumpers without antenna hole

hey guys like the thread title states I'm looking for a bumper. I recently got an Aluminum one I found here on xda and I'm incredibly happy I can finally have some sort of a case on with my extended battery but it impacts the gps on my phone enough where I'd like to find a replacement. Upon further reading have found a couple threads about bumpers with some that I really like but they all seem to have the cutout to fit an antenna in the corner which I hear apparently the chinese version of the s2 has. The aluminum bumper I have now does not have such a cut out. I'd like to basically find a bumper exactly like this one (http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/sa...sung-galaxy-s2-case-neo-hybrid-ex-series.html) but without the hole in the corner. I'll probably just end up ordering that bumper anyways but any help would be much appreciated. =D
Which case do you have now? I got a ikuba bumber case and my gps is fine.
I am using the bumper shown in this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417661) If you look there are pictures in that thread ,some posted by me, which show that it lacks the antenna hole the plastic/silicone case I linked in my OP has. I can't seem to get a good lock on my gps after putting it on. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but either way it takes too long to make it worth it. I don't think it blocks the gps waves only impairs or bounces them a bit, I think this because before putting it on when I opened the google maps app it would say "accurate up to ten meters" or "accurate up to 5 meters" now it usually says "accurate up to 30 meters" sometimes even "accurate up to 50 meters". This wouldn't bother me but when I switch it to gps mode so it actually gives me directions as I drive it just says "lookiung for gps" on the bottom for a full minute sometimes more sometimes not moving from this screen at all. Maybe the case is not really made of alluminum because it's cheaper to manufacture other metals in china. (the case I'm using was shipped from and presumably made in china) I'm guessing from the lack of response that I'm probably going to have to deal with the antenna hole, I was really hoping for a US manufacturer maybe that doesn't cater to Chinese phone models.
The one I'm using now signal for indoor is around 40feets and out door its around 30 feet.

I just ordered one off eBay. Aluminum alloy bumper with tripod hole. Plan to do a review once I reach my 10 posts. can't even provide a linky yet, but it's sold by rpas5404. It's for the i9100, but I'm quite sure it'll fit. I have the i777.
This bumper does have the corner cut out, I just realized. But that doesn't bother me.

replace/change the silver side plastic frame bezel around the screen

hi as many note 3 users know, the plastic side frame is easy to get damaged, i have few cracks and one line just under the main power button (not sure just facial or completely crack?)
so, how easy is to change and which one i have to buy ? - im quite noob in hardware sides.
Sure you can buy one on Ebay
I have the same problem, the silver plastic bezel is very fragile.
If you search in Ebay you can found the Bezel and some of them come with tools to turn this in a complete DIY.
Actually i found all the body for this phone in ebay, so you can turn your used and damaged note 3 into a "brand new" one.
Thanks 4 the info. Where did you find it. Could you please share the link?
Thx in advance
hey guys.here is a link for the bezel replacement Bezel On EBAY
i want to tell you that it's not that easy to change it as you need to move the lcd screen from the one bezel to the other one.
there is glue between the lcd and the bezel so you need to warm it and remove it really carefully.i did the process yesterday on my note 3 and it was a pain in the a$$ so i have to tell you to be carefull before any move you re going to do.
Any link for Indian note 3?
Sent from my SM-N900 using XDA Free mobile app
I considered doing this, as I was given a note 3 a while back, but the bezel is beat to hell and the screen had a minor crack. I should've replaced both at the same time, but the small crack turned into a large one and needed immediate attention It's covered by a case now anyway though, so it's not much of an issue anymore.
I dropped mine a while ago and put some pretty nasty scratches on the bezel.
I ended up sanding all the plastic chrome plating off down to the white plastic underneath.
covered the screen with electrical tape and ran a razor round the edge (so I could get to the front part)
It actually looks really good, I prefer it to the chrome.
I got a cheapo battery cover off ebay aswell in orange and it looks real good,
Its a tough job!!!
got my Note 3 as a gift from a friend who cracked it. I replaced the entire Display (along with frame)
and 3 days later I dropped it and got scratches in the frame.
so I decided to buy a frame and fix but its really a tough job.
so I got a bumper for 3$ and job done
I have installed one of those here http://www.ebay.com/itm/Thin-Aluminum-Metal-Bumper-Case-Cover-For-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-3-III-N9000-N9005/151251742076?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D31478%26meid%3D341538ef5e9d4d6da3228a5f902e8cf1%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D151251742076
There are some more nicer ones our there, however this does the job well and the build quality is goodd too, my first one at 1,30 USD was not worth anything.
thanks i thought i saw same one for bit less than that, will browse ebay later.

Hows the reception with this frame on it? Bc in the past i bought a cheap one that folds over the original side bezel but reception dropped a lil bit.

because you must be either living in the area where your carrier signal is real strong/good, or you dont pay attention to little details, otherwise you're lying
I have tried handful of those and other plastic metalized/mirror painted bumpers and what not and all to one had some impact, especially those which had metalized paint/metal/aluminium back cover.
Simple speed test will tell alot when wearing the cover, or just go and keep an eye on your signal strength meter. It sure as hell affects signal.
mine Note 3 is banged up pretty bad around the bezel but instead I just figured it would be more practical getting some slim neat bumpers and call it a day. not only hiding worn and tired bezel but also protecting the screen and back camera optics to some degree
some of my past purchases that proven to be good investment:

little too many ... beware that those wooden cases are the coolest thing your phone can get but if you do drop your phone they crack and break apart sometimes... not always though but alot alot sooner than any plastic case would and thats a heartbreaking thing because there not exactly cheap case, but hey - how often does someones phone feels and smells like real fresh quality piece of wood? I like them wooden ones very much even if they crack and put some tax on my pocket at the end of the day its almost like your personal signature of style ... besides, its always warm to touch and zero signal interference
PS: lots more were thrown out many months ago, especially all those metalized ones, no use to me nor could I offer them to anyone I knew who had note 3 due to what they are
When my display was damaged, it got repaired, not only the glass, but the whole display including the bezel, it was 1 piece.. I guess it's very hard to replace only the bezel

LG G5 painted plastic coating?

LG G5 painted in plastic coating?
Jerry rig everything video shows alot of proof.
Most of the professional reviewers are scared to speak the truth. Why? Are you scared of LG?
It is a die-cast aluminium body which then has the antennas placed on the outside (because the signals wouldn't get through the metal) there is then a primer to help the paint bond to the aluminium and cover up the antennas. They then use a microdised finish over the top which is effectively a metallic paint.
It's not plastic it's just not been machined and anodised. They were going for a different take on the metal body that could allow them to hide the antennas.

A diffrent take lol. That plastic coating pretty much negates the need of having metal in a phone. Just make it out plastic if ythats all ill feel when holding it !
Most concerning part is the display assembly. So thin that you can see the pressure points when you select something. Maybe i am to demanding idk, but all the different phones over the years i have never experienced such thing.

You get the benefit of heat dissipation and rigidity/strength of the metal body instead of a plastic body.

im pretty sure no one complained about such thing with S5/G4 and earlier devices that used full plastic builds. You are delusional my friend, they are missleading consumers, & then coming out with some bs excuse, "we are doing it differently, we didnt want to do what everyone else is doing" !
I'm not delusional, people just seem to have got it stuck in their heads it is basically a full plastic build. There is plastic in every metal phone, just of varying degrees.
I've no issue with the way they have constructed the phone. If you don't like it then don't buy it.

i gotta see ppls experiences with the G5, its good to know how good the competition is doing this year , apparently there is none so far
I got the S7 Edge as well but was hanging around here to see if I liked the G5 as I still have one more jump until July with Tmobiles jump on demand.
Looks like I'll be waiting to see what the HTC 10 brings to the table.

The truth is LG G5 is ugly phone compared to galaxy S7 edge. I even think HTC 10 will be better then LG G5.
Am sorry to say.

definetly, the chanfer might be too big, but still, they are fixing what was broken in previous gens, & there software is the top OEM skin out there, so yeah it will be a good competitor to the S7/Edge.
It's called paint people get over it, especially from your gs7s
trolls everywhere…
seriously… this device has not been shipped worldwide yet and people already start complaining about built quality. get a life.
i preordered my g5 including a free camera module and i'm proud of that decision so far.
all thats left is that they start shipping to germany.
I keep wanting to think that the GS7E is good lucking. Maybe it's just that I'm coming from the G3 but....it just seems too damn narrow! But to be honest, the biggest problem is that I can't play with the GS7E at any of the stores, they're all on demo mode...maybe I should go into another carrier's store where there's one I can actually demo. Can anyone tell me whether your carrier typically has its demo phones NOT on retail mode? I'm on sprint here (and still undecided between G5/GS7E/GS7).

I per-ordered the G5 and got it Friday. I have had no issues with. This whole metal vs. plastic issue is a joke. Structurally speaking, this is great phone. They had to switch to the thin metal aluminum in the back because of the void between the back and the screen when you take out the battery. And when you do take the battery out, there's very little to no deflection.
I have an metal body iphone 5s for work and i hate it. This is so much better.

I'm not here to insult, just to inform on my experience thus far. However, i wish you wouldn't be commenting so negatively on this phone without using it for some considerable time. A 10 minute in-store demo use of the phone shouldn't count especially when you are looking for all the negatives. When i pick up a phone in the store i look for all the negatives first before the positives.
Like I said, the look and fell of this phone is great after 4 days of use. The main selling point for me was the removable battery and the camera. The battery seems like it's very easy to swap and the camera is superb. I took it to a show on Friday and the pictures where incredible especially in wide view. I'm sure the 7s takes better pictures, but i really like the wide angle.
I personally don't care for all the friends modules they're advertising.
Had i read your comments before i purchased the phone, i probably wouldn't have bought the phone. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to answer.
