Paranoid multi window - Paranoid Android Features Development

There's new button on navigation bar called MW-button. When it is long pressed a new screen appears that is split in two. Each having an application drawer where all applications can be scrolled. On clicking an application, it appears in the split view on that side.

Would love for Paranoid Android to have MultiWindow but the developers involved have stated a few times that Multi Window won't be implemented.

I love this mock up! wish it can come true

This can be done with Xposed and the XMultiWindow module.

Or xhalo floating windows, also an xposed module, mostly works a treat.

The Nexus 5, like the Nexus 4, is based off of another LG phone, right? Namely the G2, as the N4 was based on the Optimus G. And people have been porting the Split Window feature from the Flex to the G2 since they're essentially the same phone, so is it possible to port over again?

I like the idea but I won't implement it till it can be proven that haven't two apps are useful while using only half the screen.
Let's assume that another app is only one click away. Under want circumstances would having two apps at be useful understanding that you can see half the content you usual do are useful? For most apps I have found the screen size to be small for two applications especially while utilizing the keyboard. There is simple not enough space for two applications . Until this can be proven more useful than having a temporary mini application then it won't be supported in PA.

I would like this feature too. I use it for college when typing and researching (Brower/OfficeSuite).

Nubia X6 have this function

Would love this option. Mostly to be able to listen to Youtube and using the phone for whatever else at the same time. But there might be easier solutions for this 'problem'...

I use multi-window a lot on galaxy note 8. If you are learning a new language you will find it invaluable. In fact any ROM without multi-window capability is unsuitable for a tablet.

I feel like this feature is far more relevant with the Nexus 6 in the game...

Has anyone learn if this is in the making?, would love to have this on the nexus 6....to put this on top of all Androids' Family

PA Windowed Multitasking

This might just be the feature that pulls me away from AOKP for good. Windowed Multitasking is the one feature that I feel is crippling Android(and iOS for that matter) from rising as a serious competitor to traditional OSes(Windows, OS X, Ubuntu etc.). Anyone else excited for this?

Already running PA for tablet mode but this just gives me even more reason to stick with them. I was running it on my S3 too but didn't really like it over TW.
Yup, very much looking forward to this. If they pull it off, I'll be a PA man from here on out! From watching the video, their implementation looks much nicer than most too.
It will depend somewhat on what Google are up to though, I'd be amazed if Android 5 doesn't have some form of multi-window mode and should be out in 3-4 weeks...

And then 1-2 months of bugfixing in ROMs so it actually works ok
I asked about multitasking on PA thread for N10, and the answer wasn't far from what I think it might be the truth, seeing how is it going with the phones and tablets running PA ROM.
"Still far from done, and it's really questionable how exactly it will function on a tablet, seeing how the PA team is focused on phone development mostly. "
Interesting - I hope we get something like this. Another kick-ass developer timduru ported Cornerstone to EOS for the Asus Transformer TF101. It worked quite well. It certainly didn't make the TF101 any faster, but it was definitely something that I think improved the user experience on the tablet. I was able to watch video in one window and surf the net in another.
For me, this was the most anticipated feature since I got my first Android tablet (which would be this one... :silly: ). Right now, I'm using the floating browser as a workaround, since the functionality of some apps can also be found on the web. - Except, of course, in offline situations.
I'm eagerly awaiting this, and I know that team PA can pull it off!
Pa just released a new video on Google +... it makes way more sense to me now... this will be rad with pie... Not sure how useful on the nexus 10 but awesome on my galaxy nexus... Can't wait
I guess I could post the link...

For phones I can see this feature being extremely innovative and useful but for the Nexus 10 it would make more sense to implement something similar to cornerstone or what Samsung has done. Mostly due to the fact that tablets have such large real estate that can be utilized with multiple windows up.
The idea is great for phones but I, personally, would prefer something similar to what I mentioned. However, something is better than nothing.

I would prefer actual windowed multitasking on the nexus 10, it makes sense on tablets as you have all that space and resolution that gets wasted on stretching out a single app

True Android Multiwindow!!

I'm Chinese on mainland of China. Today I read a news about the so called "Android Window System ". First of all I just think it would be a ugly copycat of floating apps or something similar, but while I was watching the demo video I was totally shocked. It might be really a breakthrough for android tablet in my eyes. I don't know how many of you can read Chinese and can link to this video site due to China's Government Firewall, but if you can, you must have a look.

This is no different than Samsung releasing their devices with multi-window.
What you've shown is a Rockchip's device running Rockchip's version of the Android OS on 4.2.2 with the multi-window UI implemented.
This is not Android 4.3, 5.0, 6.0, or 9.0.

I didn't mention it is any official Android version. It's true that it is for Rockchip's devices and use Rockchip's own sdk. I just wanted to show you guys what these devices can actually do. Multiwindow may not be useful on phones, but I want it on my tablet, and I believe many nexus10 owners think the same.

I understand. I was just saying it's similar to what Samsung released with their multi-window. They already showed it can be done. Rockchip just did there's much better. N10 is capable of anything but unless someone that can do this, for free, it's just more eye-candy. Cornerstone was there but Google intervened, more or less, and we're back to square one. Devs can most definitely utilize cornerstone but they don't. Why is that? Google.
Cool, but not going to happen just yet.

It is highly desirable that Google implemented in the next version of Android (4.3 or 5.0) MULTI management of native to their Nexus devices.

[KitKat 4.4 Update] Nexus 10 won't Get Translucent Navigation and Notification Bars!

Sadly, Google Nexus 10 will not get the Translucent Navigation and Notification Bars with the Android 4.4.1 KitKat update, which allow the wallpaper to go full screen from top to bottom like in the Nexus 5.
Google devs Disabled the Translucent bars on Nexus 10 (Manta) because it "performs poorly on this device"... 2GB Ram and a powerful Quad-core Mali TS04 GPU and it performs poorly ?! May be because of the High-res display, I personally think it's a GPU issue.
I know not everyone cares about a the "Translucent bar" issue that can easily be reverted, but what I am trying to find out is a reasonable explanation from Google regarding this matter.
Manta source code includes the following code listed on [config.xml] which contains the device configurations, Screenshot below too.
Code:
<!-- Translucent status & navigation bars perform poorly on this device -->
<bool name="config_enableTranslucentDecor">false</bool>
* Update [5-Nov]: I have contacted Google and currently awaiting a response, Hopefully I will get one...
* Google Reply [8-Nov]: Google's reply was a little disappointing but at least they promised to tell the users if they will "remove" any feature from the update, which is good. Here is the email:
Hi Joseph,
Thank you for contacting Google, I'd be happy to help you out with your question on the KitKat update. I'll do my best to provide you with a solution.
Unfortunately, at this point in time, we can only provide information for updates that are supported by your device right now. Google will let all of their customers about what the new update includes. You will not be left in the dark on what Google added/removed from the update.
Regards,

That's crazy, I have transparent nav bar and status bar on my home screen thru PA. Idk what Google is doing, but the translucent bars work perfectly the way PA is doing it.
The way things have been going with android lately, I'm surprised we're getting kit kat at all. This is most likely my last nexus device, maybe even android.
The Google experience launcher also performs quite poorly on my n10 while it runs perfectly smooth on my n4.

I think it either the GPU or the Screen resolution 2560x1600 that cause the problem, but why ?
Actually, now that I think about it I have an alternate theory.
There's a very good chance I'm off base here, but on my Nexus 10 I've noticed that there are some very occasional graphical glitches ( back lights flickering, and horizontal lines) that have to do with things been overlaid on top of each other. Maybe the transparency was causing similar graphical glitches. That said, if that is the reason they decided to leave it out then Google really screwed up here. They need to fix the underlying problem, not just remove transparency from the status bar.

I hope 4.4 improves performance! My N10 feels so... Outdated. Its not laggy as such but its definitely not smooth!

My N10 has never been "smooth" since the day I opened the box. Stock or custom roms, many different kernels and I still feel like I took a $500 dollar hit for a 350 dollar tablet. I am considering selling it

No date yet, the source is still a work in progress... but it doesn't look good for the manta so far! it's the only device that have this feature disabled without a reasonable explanation.
The final 4.4 hasn't even been released for the Nexus 10 yet guys, relax.
The Mali T604 is a bottleneck for the nexus 10.
It has the same memory bandwidth as ipad 3 & 4 12.8gbps but pushing almost 25% more pixels. On top of that android is not as GPU optimized.
While the t604 would be great at 720 and 1080p, 2560x1600 is maxing out the gpus capabilities.

Yeah, we're gonna have it thru PA anyways. But if that is official, I'm not too fond of Google's decisions lately. No transparent bars for us, no 4.4 (the version of android for older devices) on older Nexi.

To CM: Regarding S Pen etc.... time to move beyond generic ROMs

The S Pen is one of the main the reasons for the Note Range, and I think that CM is big enough now to not only build these generic ROMs but should take some time to develop specifics, I really LOVE CM but due to the fact that the S Pen functionality is so poorly integrated (it really is) I cant use CM, and I think that CM has enough people involved in developing to take the S Pen functionality and get it into CM for the Note Range, I know it won't be easy but really, I'm sure it can be done, and would love to see it, similarly the fact that the heartrate monitor etc. is just ignored by CM is another example of where generic ROMs miss out... I know its easy to sit here and chirp but I'm so peeved myself, Having tried so many CM based ROMs for the Note 4 and just not being able to use the things (not easily anyhow) specific to the Note 4.
EDIT: Sorry think this is in the wrong section... hopefully Mod will move it appropriately.

I wouldn't mind just having CM available on my variant of the Note 4 at all. Or more than 1 ROM full stop.

Its nice to have and works great but you have to give up a lot of features including any Samsung accessories you may use and fast charging. Also while battery life is more then enough to get you through the day it's not as great as stock TW battery life.
Still the same for me I have CM also on all my android devices, but not on my note4, because I love the spend features, and I will miss this on CM, if anyone has a 3partyApp that has the same functions like the samsung spen app, please let me know.

That's a bad excuse by LG if that's their reasoning. However, I don't really miss the feature, on a phone it's kind of useless.
Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
It is one thing that Android M is gonna bring some features, multi windows included, it is entirely another that it's gonna be implemented across all boards, especially when you look at some heavily skinned UI.
Like, app drawer is a native feature, what about the G5 and the plethora of Chinese smartphones? Adoptable storage? No worries, Android 6 has it. G4? G5? Galaxy S and Note series ?
So, no, it is not a given that we'll have multi windows feature when N comes along. Features are not there until they are, and at the moment, I don't see as to why LG would make us wait so many months until N is out to offer us a proper multi windows solution.
It is like when manufactures release new phones with a outdated Android version and saying "update is coming shortly", sometimes, it is a trimester... We've been to long into this game to get caught time and time again by the same catchphrase.
