GT-I9300 4.3 update? Yes or no ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
What's your experience with 4.3 update ? It seems like a lot of people are complaining about it.
Is it a go or should i stay with 4.0.4?
I want to update to 4.3 only because of buttery-smooth performance that Google claims it to be after the update
I know that first OTA update was a complete dissaster but after that Samsung released a fix for it, so is it really fixed with that new update or it's still buggy ?
So what's your opinion ? Should i update or stay on 4.0.4 or perhaps wait for 4.4?
I hope 4.4 will have much less problems
Thanks in advance,
Slim Shady

Original S3 rom battery drain is way better than iphone4. Why try to downgrade it to equal Iphone 4?

You need to have at least 3 charge cycles before you can experience the difference.
Yes when I first got my s3 the battery was pretty bad compared to iPhone 4. But do the cycles and find a good rom and it's a whole nother world. I suggest read a lot here and watch YouTube vids

Depends on what all you have activated and what all is running in the background. Switch off gps, auto sync, auto sync is the main cause of battery drain, also turn off wifi and 3g data when not in use, standby time on idle should be 1% drain in 2-3 hours as per the latest firmware LG8, im getting full day battery with normal usage with screen time of 4-5 hours...

Your rom is fine... Just use it for couple of days and you will see the difference. By the way, turn off gps if not in use and turn off NFC. Also turn off any gesture you don't use at all.
Enjoy your phone.

I have some queries.. Say if i install omega rom, and i want to rma the set, touch wood, Do i use triangleaway first, to rid of the flash counter, and then flash back the stock official samsung firmware? Any steps i need to take other than these steps?
And another question, does omega use a custom kernel to improve battery life?

Cannot find update

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but I promise I have tried to find a solution prior to posting here.
This morning I have received the notification of software update I guess to JB and I have selected cancel download by mistake. Since then I cannot get the update back on my phone, I have tried scanning for the update and all sorts but nothing seems to work.
Anyone here have any idea how to get the phone back to update? I would prefer not to use kies if possible.
Hi
Menu> settings> about device> system updates?
Or maybe a reboot.

Keep auto update on maybe? If not then dont worry. Its probably just some bug fixes. If your desperate tho maybe you can find the stock rom updated v. And flash it in odin

You're welcome.
If it's any consolation it won't be Jellybean update as the rumour mill suggests there won't be an official JB release until late August.

If you couldn't download the update manually, just wait. It'll come again in a day or two.

Weird update?

Hello.
When I woke up this morning, my phone wanted to update. Since I've heard that there will be an update to Galaxy S2 to 4.1.1 in November, I got really excited and ran the update.
It rebooted and optimized my apps and all that.
When it was finished, nothing looked different. I checked in the "about" in the settings, and it's still 4.0.4. If that's so, then what the heck did it update???

you would have been in 4.0.3 ICS ....so the update was released for 4.0.4 in many countries.....and you would have been notified....Its a wipe free update so everything will remain the same after updating......but the performance is increased a lot.....
hit thanks....

Uhm... He said update is STILL 4.0.4 which means he already had it... That didn't help much.
And as for OP, considering we don't know which rom version you had and now which you have, there's no way to guess what your update did. Must be a very minor change.

I also got the update, but since I am running a custom kernel, the update failed.
Some people says it's an update from XWPLW to XWPLX. Did you check your build number?

Yeah, I was on the original 4.0.4 from the beginning. Non-rooted.
As for the build number, it's XWPLY now. Don't know what it was before... I've only had this phone for almost one month now, before I had an HTC Wildfire, that sucked. But this phone is crashing a lot, so I'm looking forward to a fix for that. Perhaps this update was a fix, because I haven't had to remove the battery all day today... We'll see.

I guess you meant 4.1.2, as 4.2.1 is not yet officially, just the leak, hence no OTA or KIES update possible
I think he means he's received the XXEMB1 4.2.1 official update which superceeds the older XXELLA 4.2.1 updare from a few months ago that appeared to be the cause of regular system freezes. I got my device back from Samsung yesterday claiming they fixed it but it still froze 3 times before lunch. Then I got the XXEMB1 update this morning and so far so good. I've been running Facebook and Google Chrome over wifi and mobile data with no lockups.

Quite right lenash, its the standard s3 keyboard which is renowned to be rubbish. On a side note I even bought swiftkey but it keeps deactivating itself. Just one of many issues ive noted since moving from the lt15i arc to the s3
Easy way to find out.
Browse Root with ES or Solid Explorer. Sort by modified date and browse /system/app etc..
You didn't provide enough information.
Who knows what it was.. and as you now know, the wrong place to ask.

I would love a detailed changed log, I was on I9300XXELLA before now i have updated today to I9300XXEMB1 the only thing i spotted was they added more bloatware Play Magazines & Play Music that I can't uninstall unless I root, and now taking Screenshots now feels glitchy!
