US backer here with a 512/4GB model - Ornate TrueSmart

So I got my watch today, and it has a NA baseband and makes calls over Tmobile, but only have 512 ram and 4gb storage.
Omate said ALL North American backers would get 1gb / 8gb (I actually paid for a 1gb/4gb) so it is odd, since I didn't even think they MADE any 512/4gb NA models.
Anyone else get a 512/4 model in North America?

There have been a couple reports of this. Not sure you Omate feels about this but flashing the U.S. firmware may fix this. If it doesn't then somebody owes you a replacement.
If you plan to flash the stock NA 1900 firmware then use one of the guides here for flashing back to stock.

yeah Daniel and I have been talking in KS comments, yeah it must be a euro with US firmware.
It can only get EDGE.
Waited so long too.

Well, I received what looks like a 1gb/4gb model but the box has a sticker with 1gb/8gb on it and I did not receive my extra charging cable (at least is shows just over 1gb memory and 4.??gb storage. I can't tell yet if I have the correct radio inside. I am about to try my iPhone sim.

Well, the newer iPhone sim cards are smaller than the TS so I couldn't try it. Is there any way to tell if I have the right version before I go and void the warrant to install a larger memory card? I don't want to go and do anything if I have to send it back.

Settings/System/About/Baseband
1900 Baseband = MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V4.P1
If it is missing the "P1" then that's the 2100 baseband. HOWEVER there has already been one report of a 512/4 with the 1900 baseband out of the box.
Are you sure it's a 1/4?

Ok. I have the correct version (with P1). I must have actual received the version I backed (1gb/4gb) even though they mentioned US getting the 8gb version. I am showing 1.27gb internal space and 4.91 Phone storage. Am I reading that right?

I think the Omate software takes about 3.09GB that's why phone storage is about half of 8GB
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

8GB it the total space. This is used for the OS, kernel, bootloader apps and so on. This is no different than any other Android phone.

Is XDA a triband device?

' .... We still haven't tested whether the device is actually a tri-band phone that is just software-limited to being a dual-band phone, but postings on the net seem to indicate that it is not actually a tri-band phone. But even though we think we know, we still need someone with access to a European phone in USA...'
is it already tested???
Not sure. But it isn't. We're pretty sure of that: radio parts are different.
And don't try to flash a 900/1800 modem with 900/1900 firmware either: you'll ruin it.
Not tri band
There are two different devices.
PW10A1 is 900/1800MHz
PW10B1 is 900/1900MHz FCC ID: NM8SN
Only the PW10B1 is approved for use in the USA. The RF components are different, even though the Bootloader is common between both devices.
In other words, you will ruin it if you flash it with a different GSM version, but it is possible to flash it back using bootloader, right?

No, the bootloader method of flashing currently only covers the WinCE (main) ROM, not the GSM ROM. There is a way, but we simply know too little at this time... Progress is being made though...
I now have a confirmed report of the XDA not being a tri-band device. A friend of my took an European XDA to the US yesterday. Like we expected the device is not working there. Even not when switched to "GSM1900".
This confirms the idea of an universal bootloader and different GSM stacks. The European/Asian XDA is simple not working on GSM1900 networks. If you travel a lot, it's better to buy a T-Mobile or AT&T device as those devices work on GSM900 and GSM1900...

It's really much better not to speak of bootloader in connection with the modem part. The bootloader resides in the first 256 kilobytes of the main ROM. The rest of this ROM (32 MB - 256 kB) is taken up by the operating system, with a little room to spare for contacts and other things which are explicitly saved to flash by the user. The OS ROM can be flashed using the RUU program (also called Programme A by HTC), but it can also be flashed using the bootloader, residing in the same ROM.
The modem is a different contraption alltogether. It has its own processor, RAM (256 kB) and ROM (4 MB), and is possibly only wired to the main processor with a serial port (operating at 115 kbps). The modem holds the software loaded in using the Radio Stack Upgrade (also called Programme B by HTC). The 900/1800 and the 900/1900 modems have both different software and different hardware. Flashing software of one into the other makes it not work anymore, and we're not sure whether there's always a way back.
We're learning more and more about the modem upgrade process. But we still advise against playing around with the modem. Upgrade if you have to (maybe skipping 4.14 and wait for higher versions if you haven't upgraded yet), but if you're not deeply technically inclined then don't **** with it beyond that unless you wanna risk losing it.

SM-G850F and SM-850M what's the deal ?

Well I have 2 unopened Samsung Alphas sitting in front of me.
1. SM-G850F (International from Germany)
2. SM-G850M (Unknown Origin)
I have Many sim cards that i am using. But the main one i want to use is the T-mobile USA.
What i have gathered reading is the F has the custom recovery where as the rest A,W(QuadCore) Y(Asia ?) do not.
All of them seem to have Root.
Version A is tuned for AT&T
Version W is tuned for T-Mobile USA LTE (But is a Quad)
etc etc
But the info on the M Bands is very vague, as in the Band listing on the website is always different listed for the M.
So what are my advantage of picking one over the other (M of F) for T-Mobile USA ?
As far as i know every other version than the A has exynos chipset with the octa core cpu and the A has qualcomm with quad core cpu and thats why almost every other version has root and the A dont.
Sent from my SM-G850F
Why the hell are they doing this ...
So how different is the M from F ?
I cant find any info regarding the M having custom recovery also.

SM-G850M on Tmobile USA
I have 4G Stable aka LTE
Very happy with my outdated discontinued phone hahahahahah
I agree the Bands Info on 850 M is vague or conflicting .
But it seems that you should have the
1700/ 2100 LTE Bands for Tmobile 4G LTE and the 1900 band for 3G
needed with the M Version.
Are you getting full performance on 3G , 4 G and LTE on your Alpha ? ?
Yes i am getting all bands 2g 3g 4g H+ LTE depending where i am at sometimes E. Though during a call i only get lte or h if non of those my data doeent work during a call
SM-G850M (Vodafone) = Branded
SM-G850F (Europe) = Non Branded

Can you tell me if the G850M is carrier-branded in any way? I know the G850F isn't, and I was wondering if the same is true for the G850M. Basically, I would like to receive Android updates directly from Samsung without carriers getting in the way, and I would like free use of the Portable WiFi Hotspot/Tethering feature (even without having it as part of your plan). I know Nexus phones allow you to do this.
Thanks!

850M is not carrier-branded...it's unlocked and sold by Vodafone. I rooted mine, so can't get updates through Samsung anymore.
I did use it to create a Wi-Fi hotspot to tether my laptop. It works well, and I do not pay extra for this feature on ATT.

Thanks very much for your responses! I greatly appreciate it.
I found a 850M on eBay for $89.99 couldn't believe it, excellent condition like new. I rooted it, installed another XDA members 4.4.4 ROM but couldn't notice any difference from stock, works fine on Cricket (At&t) prepaid, 4G same speeds as my previous S5 Mini At&t version phone, around 8mbps down, 4mbps up, half that when on a call. I cannot find many 850M's on the market, it's amazing. I want to buy at least 1-2 more, these are one of the best phones Samsung produced, especially one of the last good phones with removable battery! There are more 850F's on eBay but may not have as fast data with At&t as they are EU version. After my experience with S5 mini on 5.1.1 ROM I noticed much faster battery drain and prefer 4.4.4 performance. Hope my post helps someone=) -Aje

Here is the link to the ROM.

However I didn't notice any difference from the stock ROM, was surprised to see the same original games included which I consider bloatware. Anyway the phone works great after rooting and uninstalling a lot of things, although it did suddenly crash and restart yesterday while on a phone call, first and only time in about a week I've had it. I love this phone and the size is perfect.
Really wanted to try this ROM but DL link is no longer working and no one is replying lately.

[Q] Please, puhleeze help me configure PadFoneX for T-Mobile 4G and HSPDA + !!

Unlocked AT&T-branded PadFoneX. I'm getting low reception on Band 4 and no HSPDA+ reception whatsoever.
I upgraded the unit to the PadFoneS firmware and did the four Asus upgrades to bring it up to date with no better result. Applied the 99.99.99 down-grade back to KitKat and still no love. I use the APN settings for Fast T-Mobile USA and have tried others as well. My Huawei MediaPad Pro T1 8.0 gets strong T-Mobile reception and then switches over to HSPDA+ coverage once I enter my office building. The PadFone gets weak 4G LTE and then switches over to EDGE once I enter the building.
I was really hoping to replace my 8-inch Huawei with the PadFone but the radio reception just doesn't compare and I can't stand being forced to use EDGE inside my office building when I know that T-Mobile HSPDA+ coverage is usable within my building using the Huawei Phablet.
Can someone please please please help me in "fine tuning" this thing for T-Mobile. By the way the PadFone is rooted and I've unlocked the bootloader as well. Maybe there is updated modem firmware to flash? I just don't know what else I can do..
If you get HSPDA+ coverage from T-Mobile on your PadFone can you please share your configuration and APN settings??
Thank you!!!!!!
Chris R.
I have a PFX flashed to PFS Kitkat running on T-Mobile. Connects to the LTE network fine using the fast.t-mobile.com APN. Yes, reception seems to be on the weak side, but it gets the job done for me. Suspect that Mediapad gets a better signal due to it being larger = larger antenna.
HSPA works fine for me as well, but as this is an AT&T/International device, you'll only connect to HSPA on Band 2 (1900MHz). It lacks HSPA Band 4 (1700MHz/2100MHz) for T-Mobile's more extensive 3G network. It looks like that Mediapad has HSPA Band 4 (http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=7233&c=huawei_mediapad_t1_8.0_pro_4g_td-lte_t1-821l), so that's probably why it's able to get HSPA signal while the PF does not.
Thank you!

My device is the AT&T Asus Padfone X (ASUS_T00D). On the white label under the back cover it lists the manufacturing date as 2014/05/31 and is H/W Revision 1.6 (PFX was launched in July 2014, so this is probably a launch model). Bought it from Ebay a year ago pre-unlocked. Used it on AT&T's firmware for a few months before flashing the latest Asus Padfone S (ASUS_T00N) Kitkat firmware, "WW_11.10.7.18". I think I had to manually set my APN, but was able to connect fine.
Looking at the signal levels, the PFX pulls in -108dBm at my desk, while my Moto E2 pulls in -100dBm, both on LTE Band 4. Moto devices tend to have better radios, but I didn't expect the smaller, budget Moto E2 to pull in a better signal than the PFX.
OK, now I'm confused....

I pulled the back cover off of mine, it too is a T00D and, get this, manufacturing date was 2014/05/22 (!!!) FCC ID is MSQT00D, and H/W is 1.6 (!!).
I too did the X-to-S conversion and yesterday I applied each successive update until I got to the very latest 12.2.2.43 (16 Dec 2015).
So if we have nearly identical hardware, is there anything that I can do to improve reception? Could you send me the settings you used for APN?
Thanks!

By the way, your Moto is the better device, the lower the db number the better AFAIK..

Don't know how to improve the reception, but here's my APN settings:
Name: T-Mobile LTE
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN Type: default
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
Everything else is set to Not Set/None.
I didn't set up the MMS proxy as I'm using a tablet data-only plan on the PFX. (I think data-only plans come with free SMS/MMS, but I don't use it.)

I probably know why you are not receiving a a good signal on your device.
The thing is when you do the conversion, from padfone x to padfone s, the partiton gets overwritten and causes some of the bands to be lost.
That partition is called the efs partition, and probably you have lost some bands that probably would have worked better before you flashed.
The side effects can be seen through the software when additional call settings does not work. (SIM doesnt get recognized)
That is a known problem, and to avoid that you had to back up the efs partiton prior to the conversion so you could restore those kinds of connections after the conversion.
--- You had to use adam outlers repacked twrp version to do all that.
I know many of the guides there have replaced mine but they forgot that one thing that has been talked over, and thanks to tjsooley and the people during that time, they were able to figure it out.
Thanks..but consider this..

Thanks! I did read through all these threads searching for an answer before I posted my question. the first time I did the X-to-S conversion I thought exactly what you said (destroyed the efs partition containing the modem info). So I went back and loaded the 99.99.99.99 version posted on the Asus site which is supposed to restore it to factory settings and back to KitKat but that had no effect. Since 99.99.99 is for the PadFone S maybe that doesn't make use of the partition under KitKat, I don't know.
What I would dearly love to load is a flashable version of the original AT&T software (thereby restoring the partition and the modem info). I saw one guy had posted TWRP backups of stock but when I tried to restore them to my phone the script bombed and it aborted.
I agree with the other gentleman, I need UMTS Band 4 - (1900/2100) for this thing to work well in my area and it looks like this phone doesn't support it. If I could find someone familiar with QPST to tell me if that band is unlockable that wold be great!
Thanks!!!!
Chris R.
Unfortunately QPST couldn't work with this device, idk know why.
You could find out by searching through using the xda search engine, but the question is, did you back up your modem for this device prior, because it could be restored when the phone is on a stock fw, then you could create an efs backup afterwards.
To answer the question with the tarp backups, those were created from the repacked twrp version so flash that first and back up everything before you restore back to at&t fw. I don't think the quarx version could work with that since the repacked was based on the nexus 5. (Similar parts) (be aware that you need to wait a couple of mins for the black screen to go away, on that version of twrp.)
The thing is that I could use band 2 and 4 on at&t with this fw, (I did not restore my efs partition since the conversion since I lucky live in a good area) but it looks like band 4 doesn't work for t-mobile, hmmm maybe it is incompatible like the other guy said, but we'll see. After wards you gotta see if these bands would restore upon restoring back to the at&t fw.

The EFS partition contains the modem, yes, but this isn't the issue here. When it comes to bands used in the USA, the Padfone S firmware has all the bands the Padfone X uses except for LTE Band 17, which is only used by AT&T, and would not affect T-Mobile in this case. I was able to use my PFX-converted-to-PFS on T-Mobile without restoring EFS fine.
Thanks!

I think the PadFone's lack of UMTS Band 4 is what's keeping me from getting HSPDA+ inside my office building. Once I head into the building my 4G on Band 4 reverts to Edge (ugh!) and I have a 14Gb tethering plan so that I can run my tablet while inside the building..arrggh!

" No Network" issue UK

Hi everyone
I am in the UK and bought the Note 4 Global version, as in the UK my provider uses Band 20
I am on Tesco, which piggy-backs the O2 network
However, on inserting the sim I receive the No Network error.
Tesco give me the usual "we don't sell those handsets so we can't provide technical support blah blah" "It must be locked blah blah"
The sim is fine as it was in his iPhone 5 (and still is because this won't connect to Tesco)
The Mobile Networks setting has been changed to what was on the previous phone, but with no joy.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance
Edit for stupidity:
Android 7.0 NRD90M
MIUI ver 9.0.5.0
Have you tried any other sim card in the phone? You can get one of those cheapie PAYG sims (for example, EE) from Tesco or your corner shop and see whether it has the same problem (which might point to a hardware issue or something funny going on with your ROM). I am not sure why you would have had to change the mobile networks setting. That should not be necessary at all.

You can get one of those cheapie PAYG sims (for example, EE) from Tesco or your corner shop and see whether it has the same problem (which might point to a hardware issue or something funny going on with your ROM). I am not sure why you would have had to change the mobile networks setting. That should not be necessary at all.

Forgot to mention this is my son's phone.
I have an EE pay monthly sim. Tried that. Same thing. No Network.
Irony in the fact that it says TESCO 4G in the top band by the clock when he puts his sim in the Note 4 and 2 bars on connection.
Cannot ring out and cannot accept a call

Silly question, are you sure it's global version? A lot of "global" word from Chinese phones.
Is this the package?

Ok, it definitely should work with EE, and so this is clearly not a Tesco mobile problem. Either the hardware is faulty or the ROM (particularly the modem drivers) is faulty. You might want to return the phone.

I have the same sticker in the same corner
I had to order the Global specifically for the Band 20 in the UK
Any way to tell if it's not?

Darth, I think you may be onto something. You just triggered something I read earlier

It looks like the same issue (on a different Xiaomi phone). The solution is probably the same - flashing the appropriate modem (firmware) files, or flashing a new complete ROM. I wasn't sure you wanted to go down that route, as it would give the vendor an escape route if something goes awry, or if the process doesn't solve the problem.

His is a 6GB Tesco 4G and mine is a 40GB Virgin/EE 4G
His sim states Tesco 4G in top right, my EE states No Service.
LTE Discovery. What am I looking for in there?
In the Sim 1 section it says:
Band 20
GCI: 00144E78
PCI: 71
TAC: 16624
-110dBm
On Signals it says EARCFN (LTE Band 20)
Just been through my email confirmation and this is the one they sent me
https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Off...Note-4-4G-64GB-Smartphone---Black-379093.html
Now forgive me if I'm wrong but that says HK Stock Global
What's the difference between that and the Global Rom?
Darth, am I going down the flashing routine? Not bothered if I am as long as it works
Jesus H, it seems everything I buy I have to reflash these days.

If the phone sees the signal and it does detect 4g ,than the phone is ok.
The problem is that 110db . That's practically dead zone. I would say your location is the problem. I know you said that Samsung has 2 bars but this is crappy phone .
Just to be sure, can you check in a a place with strong 4g signal?

Believe it or not, Tesco has really strong 4G in my village. Never a problem on that carrier
EE however is ****. I have "H" on their network and -123 dBm
But I don't use my data at home
My main problem lies with the calls and texts not being able to be connected
It seems I have been sent a HK Global Rom? This has Band 20
Is this an issue? I am in the UK. Should I have been sent a Global Rom? But this doesn't have Band 20
Is it the modem driver issue as stated earlier?

It should have come with global rom . I'm not sure though that it would effect frequency.
Try to change from global to lte/wcdma in preferred network

It seems that you will have to go down that route, unless you return the phone. Whether it works or not will depend on whether it is a hardware problem or just a ROM/firmware problem.
By the way, there is a firmware repository here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73534612&postcount=89
This requires you to have TWRP recovery.

Fired an email of to Geekbuying
See if they want me to send it back or give permission to add the modem drivers with warranty intact
Just noticed that with WIFI on it says I have Tesco 4G. When I turn WIFI off I have no service.
Bizarrely, after reading, this has been going on since the Note 3
Strangely, the phone is giving 4 bars for connectivity for calls. Yet you just try and a make a call
It's always my luck when people order from China and get this wonderful, working, all-singing all-dancing product ..... then I order one!

These things are often a hit-and-miss affair, especially when buying from outside the EU. I bought mine (two) from eBay (UK and Ireland based sellers) - much easier to get refunds via PayPal (and more likely to get a proper Global ROM). But it is possible that your problem will be fixed by flashing the latest global stable ROM.
Update
Took it to the Tesco Phone Shop this morning and they couldn't get any of their settings to work. Consistently No Network. Wouldn't even connect to the Tesco guy's Vodafone sim.
Tried a Virgin sim and it wouldn't connect either
Guessing something wrong with the global rom now?
As with Note 3, MIUI 8 and the missing modem drivers?
Sparked an email back to Geekbuying to see what they can do
Thanks all

Possibly - but there is also a possibility that it is a hardware problem. That will only become clear after successfully flashing a complete ROM (global or otherwise). Whether the ROM is global or China should not have any effect on connecting to a phone network (especially EE).
Which version of MIUI are you on? Try updating of there is an update available and see if that helps.

Tab S6 regional differences

Hi all,
I'm currently looking into purchasing a Tab S6 since it has all the right features in what I am looking for in a tablet.
Bit of a problem is, that I am based in Germany. For some unknown reason Samsung does not offer the Wifi 8GB RAM/256 GB storage variant here, which would be the sweet spot for me.
Luckily I will be traveling to the USA very soon and I am thinking about picking the Wifi 8GB RAM variant up there.
Is there anything I have to watch out for in terms of differences in variants between the devices sold in Germany and the USA? I haven't found much information about this online and I also don't expect there to be many differences as I am not buying the LTE variant but I just want to make sure before purchasing.
Many Thanks.
I thought this specifications has the LTE variant only ... . My was delivered just yesterday btw. I'm in Germany too.

It's the 8GB RAM, 256GB internal storage, LTE variant, bought with a nice o2 conrtact via sparhandy.

The only hardware difference, that I notice is the hardware keyboard layout for every country.

Can you tell me if the LTE version could be used as a phone?
Not the phone sync stuff. Just Sim card and go?

Thank you. I was going to get the s4 and the s6 was coming out so I decided to wait. The only information I could find about the s6 phone capabilities was the sync stuff. I'm not interested in that at all. Plan on replacing my current phone with the s6.

The small triangle icon appears only when when you insert the SIM card. The slot for it is the same like for the micro SD.

Yes, exactly just like a normal mobile phone. Of course there an option to connect to an other mobile phone but this is a different thing and has nothing to do with tab's s6 LTE function.
If you got a LTE model which is more expensive then the WIFI variant, it's just like a mobile phone.

Maybe just check out the slot, if there is place for a SIM, insert one and see what happens... .
Or do you think, your president disabled the call function for obvious reasons

I found the problem. My device is SM-T867. probably a cut version of SM-T865. I have already put my sim card and can access to internet even send sms but no phone calls. i even tried third party dialer apps but no result. i am curious if i flash 865 firmware to it, will it brick it?

That's a good question ... . But I guess odin will refuse it.
Btw., if you have a galaxy phone, it's possible to make calls with the tab, it will use then the phone.
