[Q] backing case for xperia z2 tablet - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've just purchased an xperia z2 10.1 inch tablet to use on my boat as a navigation aid.
The tablet will get a bit of a beating when crashing over waves - so I want to protect it with a back cover.
(I've had a galaxy tab - which survived pretty well - but it was in an enclosed cover - and a pig to see through the cover).
The water resistant features of the z2 will be helpful here - hence why I only want a back cover.
Can anyone recommend anything?
Cheers,
Ian

[Q] Replacing the Xperia Tablet Zs screen - adhesive?

So I've taken the old cracked LCD off my Tablet Z and am about to order a new replacement.
Question is - anyone know what is used to stick the back cover back on and what is the best adhesive for sticking the LCD/Touch screen unit back in (3M double sided tape?). The cover was attached using some form of spongy foam tape - where can I get this from? Is this a sealant for the waterproofing aspect of the Xperia Tablet Z?

as far as understand if you open the case once, your device is no longer waterproof even if you use adhesive/sealant.
I think your right, I seem to remember there is mention of some form of pressure test point in the tear down. In any case I won't be risking it near water. But generally does anyone know what the best adhesive to use is. Original stuff seems to be very strong but soft and tacky, unlike the superglue type which I will be avoiding.
Gasket
Hey Guys,
I have to fix my screen and want to do it properly (read: OEM) so that it is again watertight. I have found the proper gaskets on ebay from the user original_parts_mobile_99, but they are so damn expensive. Anyone else know where these can be purchased from (at a reasonable price)? It seems everyone is selling the gaskets for the Xperia Z phones, but not the tablet

i think it's impossible to make tablet watertight again outside the factory. Even official service centers, while repairing device not always make it watertight again.

I'm interested in this, but I need some opinions

Hi all. I used to own an Asus Transformer Infinity TF700 tablet, until I sold it off due to it being obsolete in speeds for me to use as a daily driver. I haven't been using a tablet all that often lately ever since (except for my 2nd gen iPad, but I want to sell that) and all I have that satisfies me is my current phone, the Sony Xperia Z3v. I love the phone very much and it's the best. It has a battery life that well lasts me for two days, but now I'm thinking about getting a tablet to use for entertainment so I don't have to wear down my phone very fast.
Can some of you owners convince me on some good points in owning the Z3 Tablet Compact? Any super benefits in having the 8 inch as opposed to a 10 inch? Any flaws any of you have encountered? How about recommended cases for some real good protection? I don't mind thick cases, just so as long as I get good protection on the device.
I can't wait to hear it, and thanks in advance!
I got this case: http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Sony-Xperia-Tablet-Compact/dp/B00IRWKJ40
Unfortunately I can't recommend it since the clips holding the tab in place chipped off already without dropping - also many additional cracks appeared in the plastic after only a few days. With case the whole assembly is twice as thick as the tablet itself.
1) Still i can fit the tablet with the case in my coat - I'd call that a huge benefit of 8" devices
2) Not worrying about damage when using the waterproof Z3TC in the rain is also pretty neat
Flaw: I'm a little uneasy about the costly battery replacement due to the sealed case, also at some point I'll probably break off and lose the micro USB cover ^^
3) Battery runtime is awesome!

Is there any problems with the screen? Like some abnormal tint color appearing or it cracks itself due to some weird phenomenon? That's what I heard about the international Z3 phone.
I never looked into it yet, but how much do battery replacements usually go for through Sony?

Haven't seen any screen color issues. Not sure about the screen cracks...mine has been great and have used it a bunch. It's a great slim tablet that is super quick. The Lollipop update made it feel even smoother to me. Not sure on what battery replacements would cost. I love this tablet.

I ordered myself a used SGP 612 (white 32 GB wifi only), detachable bluetooth keyboard and flip case, and tempered glass. Is this model already updateable to Lollipop and rootable? My Z3v smartphone is still waiting for Lollipop from Verizon, but no root yet as it hasn't been a very well known phone for development. There's a bounty set up for it though.
Yes it is on lollipop now but not sure on the root status. Of course you can always unlock the boot loader and go about it that way.

Ah, I am a bit looking forward for root just to ad block. I can't wait to see how lollipop runs on the tablet.
My expected delivery day is April 12. I'm hoping it comes a little earlier though. How does paying $299 sounds like for a used one?
Not the screen cracked, but the case! Colors are fine
Before I update to Lollipop, I want to make a backup of my tablet plus the DRM keys so I can keep everything in case something goes wrong. I'm trying to follow some guides, but the TA Backup doesn't recognize my tablet. What goes on? ?_?

[Q] Xperia Tablet Z2 vs Tablet Z Build Quality

For those who have lots of experience handling both the Tablet Z and Tablet Z2, ignoring specs, which do you believe is higher quality from a construction stand point ie. better built/stronger/better build quality?
Why are you not comparing the Z2 Tablet to the Z4?
I own both tablets and I can say both have the same built quality.
Between Z2 and Z4 may not have answer because its rare to get someone having both.

I also own both; actually the wife has the Z WiFi, and I the Z2 LTE.
Built quality is the same.
I prefer the Z2 because
The back is non-slip
The headset port is not hidden under a flap.
The magnetic charging port is much more convenient than the micro USB behind the flap solution.

That only goes for the black version, though.
White Xperia devices never have a non-slip or soft touch finish.
Hate to contradict: my Z2 is white and non-slippery.

It may not be particularly slippery, but it doesn't have that soft touch rubberized finish that black Xperias tend to have
The original Z white has a glas finish on tge back. The Z2 has a "matte" finish.
Don't know the black.
If that has rubber finish, I am glad I got the white.
I hate rubberized! All lint wil stick to, and after a few years it starts to rub off and becomes sticky.
Then again that might be just a Logitech issue. DiNovo Edge, MX Revolution, and Harmony1000.

Well I was actually talking about the Xperia devices with a plastic back. Sorry for the confusion.
This discussion is about tablets, anyway. None of the Xperia tablets have glass on the back AFAIK.

Huawei Flip Cover

While waiting for the keyboard cover (I got it "free" for buying the tablet at launch) I ordered this and received it today.
A little on the heavy side (I think around 250gr), protects the tablet and screen. Sturdy fold system for having the tablet stand up horizontally (for movie watching, I guess), no way that I can understand to have the tablet slightly raised for typing on touchscreen when not using the "real" keyboard. Screen cover turns on the device but with fingerprint id unlocking is kind of useless quite frankly. There's a magnet to ensure the cover stays closed.
Look is understated, with a "bas relief" Huawei logo in the bottom right corner. You can see pictures here:
https://www.luurinetti.fi/huawei-mediapad-m5-10-flip-cover
How slim would you say this is? I currently have an aging Sony Z3 Compact tablet and have ordered the M5 as replacement.
When I first purchased the Z3C tablet I found all the 3rd party covers to be a bit on the bulky side. But when I finally got hold of the original Sony SCR28 cover - it was considerably slimmer than the 3rd party ones.
So, I am wondering if I should just get a cheap 3rd party cover from Amazon or hold out for the official Huawei one....
Flip cover
What do you think about this flip cover? http://s.aliexpress.com/UJ3YbIzE?fromSns
I think it's well done because it leaves the pogo pins uncovered so if you have to connect the tablet to the keyboard you do not have to detach it from the flip cover
gorman42,
Are you using flipcover with a stock room?
I found turnoff/turn on feature does not work with custom rom and interested to know other people experience.
I installed carbon rom.
Also do you have any reaction when you flip cover from front to back ?
I found magnet sensor reacts on that and triggers false positive

Back Glass Clear mod

Hello. I have recently found my old sony xperia Z3 phone from 2014 but its totally wrecked back glass is broken and fell off easily and screen totally wrecked to the point the enternal screen has broken lines and touch screen isnt working at all. I want to try and revive this phone for me to use for hacking purposes like android tampering and just in general having fun. I want a little spice to this phone and there comes my question. I have searched and searched but I never found anyone that sells back glass without any color and is transparent. Does anyone know where I can buy transperant back glass for the sony xperia Z3? and if not I can try doing it by myself scraping off the color and trying not to hit the NFC module but for that please link me to a buyer that sells back glass with no glue strips on the back glass. I need just the back glass with everything but without the glue. thanks in advance
Just do it by yourself - that's what I did.
If you want to make it more neat you may buy the front screen and scratch it. So you got upper & lower blackout covered.
