Newbie rooting questions.. - HTC One Max

Hi. Just after a few answers really.. I've just recently upgraded from a Desire HD, which i rooted and ROM'd using the now non existent Advanced hack kit.. Now that was easy enough to do as it was one piece of kit that did everything, but i've done a little reading about rooting and ROM'ing the One Max and i'm a little daunted as it's a new phone and don't fancy bricking it at this stage and have heard various people saying there are a few ways to do it..
Now i know i have to visit HTCDEV and sign up to unlock the bootloader, which i've yet to do.. But i just need to know if there's a similar one stage program after unlocking the bootloader like the hack kit on the previous phone. If it's too involved i won't bother, but would be nice to know if there is one..
Any help would be appreciated.

You don't have to visit HTC Dev to unlock if your on Verizon. You can use rumrunner found in the Original Android Dev section to unlock, S-Off and root your device... If your not with Verizon, I believe you need to use HTC Dev and then you can use rummrunner or fire water also in Original Android Dev section.

Yeah i'm in the UK so no Verizon here...
So what you're saying is then, once i've unlocked the bootloader via HTCDEV, that i can use rumrunner to do the whole rooting thing in one program?? What about this, this seems to look similar to the advanced hack kit?

I'm in UK and used firewater to temp root. unlock and s-off. then after that installed custom recovery and then rooted through that. then custom rom'd. it is quite involved as you need HTC drivers working fastboot and adb etc I haven't heard of anyone using the tool you quoted since I've had phone so it's up to you. and the tool probably won't be just a one click. what are your details in hboot?

I didn't have luck with that toolkit, but give it a try. I know rummrunner works.

I'm thinking of getting a Evo 3D, but I've been Ify because of the Root/Recovery situation.
Anyways my question is...
Is it Possible yet to Fully Root the Evo 3D? And if so, is it also Possible to Install a Custom Recovery like ClockworkMod?
Thanx in Advance!

Root is available. Head to the development section to learn how to root and flash a recovery.
Appreciate my help? Thank me
you don't need to flash any of the ROMs if you dont like them. I would root in case HTC/sprint sends a forced update. Might as well right?

Come to the Dark Side lol..... We have full root & s-off. 2 Recovery's to choose from (clockwork & Team Win Recovery Project), kernels/overclocking, and modified stock roms popping up daily. Aosp is still a little ways out, but there's still plenty to do, while we wait.

Ok sounds Good to me... Thanx!
This is probably a super noob question, but I haven't quite gotten into the 3VO development scene yet. I keep hearing that the bootloader is yet to be unlocked, but people are talking about a permanent root already?
Can someone explain to me the difference between temp root and permanent root? I know the difference between temporary and permanent, but how does it apply to rooting your 3VO? Also, how does a locked boot loader affect us and why do we want it unlocked? Last thing, what is S-off? Thanks!

Permanent root means S-off and a few other things. People are talking about HTC when they speak of unlocking bootloaders. If you root your phone through AlphaREV, your phone will be permanently rooted.
Appreciate my help? Thank me

Permanent root is only available via an unlocked bootloader, because of the write protection on the phone. Fortunately for the community a combined effort between Alpharev & Unrevoked, resulted in the bootloaders being unlocked Friday evening. While HTC did say that they would unlock the loaders, the "Revolution" tool is the reccomended way to proceed as there's no way to say what sort of stipulations HTC might incorporate. Check one of the many S-Off threads in the developement section or pm me if you need a more detailed answer.

Awesome, thanks guys! That's exactly what I wanted to know. So now I can go ahead and root my phone and wait for the next badass ROM (hopefully CM!) for this phone!

[Q] unlocked my evo 3d via htc method... screwed or not? That is the question...

How do I achieve s-off? Can I revese HTC unlock method? Is there a thread or answer available? I'm not a complete noob at rooting but got excited and didn't read thoroughly before committing to the HTC process. Started sifting through threads and haven't discovered an answer yet... Please help
I've been trying to sift through them as well just out of curiosity. Here is what I have gleaned from all of the threads on this subject:
1) Unless you previously had s-off through revolutionary, the HTC method will not give you or currently allow you to get s-off
2) Although the HTC method does unlock the boot loader, other things are still locked preventing you from flashing a custom recovery.
3) Currently there is no way to root or get super user access once you've applied the HTC method
4) Currently there is no way to undo the HTC method.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but that is my understanding as it is currently. That doesn't mean that a Dev won't figure out how to allow you to do those things in the next few days or weeks. You'll just have to keep checking.
Thank you, maybe ill just "lose" my phone and get it replaced
I would wait a week or so. Someone will probably figure it out.
Try this thread. Apparently this version of CWM recovery will work with the 1.50 hboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225812
I think if you search other threads you'll see that it only works if you have previously had s-off.

There you go! That didn't take long at all. Now you don't have to "lose" your phone.
thank you
I really appreciate the info... I'll check it out tonight and let you all know how it goes. This is my absolute favorite forum bar none. By the way, I was being facetious when I made the statement about "losing" my phone... laugh every once in a while! I did when I basically noobed my own phone.

Rooting Amaze without go through HTCDev???

Hi guys
I'm not sure if this method will root your phone without going through the hassle of HTCDev.com to unlock your boot loader - at least the post on XDA portal implied such
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-super-tool-the-latest-all-in-one-for-your-htc-device/
I can not tried the method since my phone already unlocked through HTCDev.com but you are welcome to tried the method though
Here is the program
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343114
Please report back the result. If this is truth then it'll be a good news for our WIND and Telus fellows whom got stucked with HTCDev
Again, I'm unable to tried the method and just though I should share the news
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all

Looks to work for temp root but still cannot unlock the bootloader, links over to htcdev. All the same it looks to be a great tool! I'm sure once you're lucky enough to have an unlocked boot loader it'll be a must have, I'm with Telus and sadly waiting for htc to let me be free as Google intended..
Merry Christmas!

It's a handy tool to open up a shortcut to htcdev but that's about it.
Doesn't sim unlock, root or give us s-off.

Root for tmobile HTC one

Hey guys,
Just wanted to say that I was successful in rooting my htc one for tmobile and installing a custom recovery. I used the tool found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183942
Just wanted to spread the news in case you were wondering if it was possible.
I hope there is a way to do it without unlocking the bootloader. I just want root.

Yeah thats what I did. I also followed the tutorial in the android development forum.
Edit: I'm gonna go for the M7 version because it says M7 in the bootloader. Wish me luck!
Yeah I'm wondering that too, do we use the M7 version or the ATT one? I'm assuming the M7 because the Tmo version is no different than the international version.
I used the m7 version last night. Worked great. Note sitting on the stock firmware with cwm touch and root. Needed to get rid of all the junk apps

Just want root access, not the custom recovery/ROMs
I'd like to have root access to my HTC One, so that I can use Titanium Backup. That's really the only reason I rooted my Tmobile Samsung Vibrant (for that, I used SuperOneClick).
I found this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183942
How do I use this program to maintain the stock recovery and just grant root access?
Is it possible to do the following?:
1- follow the prerequisites in the "To root the phone. Follow in order" and click Go.
2- Skip "Next, flash a recovery."
3- Flash Kernal
4- Run "Perm Root"
Will that work? If not, what do I need to do to get what I want?
I'm not interested in custom ROMs and I don't want to worry about screwing something up. I use wifi calling, and it's important that I have it.

S-off

So after doing some searching is Sunshine the only S-off method available right now for the ATT M9 phone?
I believe sunshine works with all variants. all you have to do is download the apk and it will run some tests and tell you if it can s-off before you even purchase it. its a pretty much fool proof. if not it will tell you what you need to do to get it ready for s-off. and from what i see the only one it doestn work for is verizon
just go HERE to download the apk, install and let it tell you one way or the other

Yes you are right. No free method for this device. Also you need to unlock your bootloader, install TWRP,root before and then Sunshine.
Good luck
Or find one of the many people like me with a Java card and never deal with htcdev and warranty to begin with. There's quite a few cards out there now and I have met up with plenty of xda people now to do s-off and unlock for them.
Hmmm... Happen to know anyone around Austin, Tx with such a card?
