[Testing] CWM Recovery G2 Mini [D620] - LG G2 Mini

Hello,
My name is ali, I am here trying to make a cwm recovery for your beloved device, and since I did not have this device, so you can help me to try and give the results.
because lg does not recognize FAT partitions, You can try to create an ext2 partition on your sdcard ext then use this method to install recovery : forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52214999
Here is the link of recovery (update.zip) : update.zip
Please provide the results asap, and do with your own risk.

This won't work as there is no way to unlock bootloader or bypass locked bootloader yet.

Will have to try and backup my phone first before doing this, this is my primary device
Edit: why is there 2 scripts in the folder?
One says phil the other one is yours.
Update:
Updater-script is phils
Updater-script~ is your's
Please fix this before testing, you have different mounting points in each also.

i'm use @Olegator methode for that..maybe no need to push that script..but trust me, it will not make a problem.

This device's bootloader is locked and noone knows how to unlock it. If someone installs a custom image (kernel, recovery, etc) then the bootloader will detect it and cancel the bootup.

It doesn't work, i tested it, it gives me the bootloader error since it's still locked but it was worth a try.

Update
Hi Guys
Here's Ali's recovery file with a possible fix, I hope it won't brick my device over the weekend.
Alifilth, I still think the update script file you got in your original is a possible cause.
Edit:
Alifilth, your zip file is buggy as hell, normally I can trace files but you got:
"# Launches SuperSU in daemon mode only on Android 4.3+.
# Nothing will happen on 4.2.x or older, unless SELinux+Enforcing.
# If you want to force loading the daemon, use "--daemon" instead
/system/xbin/daemonsu --auto-daemon &
# Some apps like to run stuff from this script as well, that will
# obviously break root - in your code, just search this file
# for "install-recovery-2.sh", and if present, write there instead.
/system/etc/install-recovery-2.sh"
and a recovery.img file that's suppose to do what?
This file is not recommended to anyone and I'm removing the file that I uploaded.

Not working here:
Code:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update pckage..
E:footer is wrong
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Try the recovery.img itself:
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
Result:
Device can not boot to recovery, it displays:
[520] fastboot_init()
[620] USB init opt @ 0xffe0000
[640] udc_start()
LG logo shown ... I waitet 5 minues at that stage .. nothing.
Normal reboot worked.
dd back my original recovery
So I think my bootloader is unlocked but I don't know since I have nothing to test.

It probably is since it didn't display a "Security Error".
You should try adb reboot bootloader. And fastboot devices while it displays that and when the logo appears.

I tried the cwm one.
Set up a build machine with ubuntu.
Installed toolchain as recommended on source.android.com.
Downloaded cm11 sources and followed the instructions.
The recovery.img was build successful but doesn't boot.
Had not time to look for a reason.
I'll try again on the weekend.

@Zaaap72 has hacked the bootloader (aboot) for the G2 Mini.
No need for Loki any more

I must've missed something somewhere, my bad.
Update:
ok i'm screwed, many tuts require a synced CM repo, which I can't afford. 20 GB's of data is alot of cash, which i don't have.

[Q] Bootloop to CWM after OTA upgrade.

My bro accidentally clicked on OTA upgrade. I have bootloader unlocked , rooted P765 with cwm 6.0.2. I searched this forum for solutions and got some.Unfortunately none worked for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2247371 - this method did not work . my phone also has some issues with USB i guess. Everytime i connect to pc , i get device not detected error. screes attached.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40423549&postcount=2 ----this did not work. same as above.
i also tried with exitrecovery.zip . It ran successfully from CWM but everytime i boot, phone still goes to CWM recovery mode.
exitrecovery has following code
busybox echo -ne "\066" | busybox dd bs=1 seek=4107 count=1 conv=notrunc of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8
I did trial and error with mmcblk0p till 1-20 with no success.
Here comes the saddest part...I also went to LG service centre. He also couldn't help. That guy told me motherboard is dead due to rooting.
I am sure that my p765 is very much alive.
I can go to Software upgrade mode on my phone, but my pc doesnt recognize it. I have latest LG drivers installed on my system.
NOw i think only way out of this could be a script to flash from CWM. Please help me!!.
I tried flashing other roms like Superlumina,Avatar. Also tried Ubuntu touch with no success. Still goes to CWM.

The following will work with all OTA boot loops to recovery. The guide is for p765 but it will work with all variants. If you flashed a custom ROM trying to fix the problem, please restore your stock rom backup. Also, if you still have artas182x locked bootloader recovery (or you removed any system apps), the update will fail, but you will be of the loop
what kdz are you currently on? I made the zip but i need the extracted p765 recovery.img.
If you have the kdz please extract the recovery.img (look at my signature on how to extract it).
i could give you the p760 20b recovery.img but I think it would be best to use the recovery.img of the current kdz you are on (to be on the safe side).
Note: if this doesn't work, you will need to use the unoffical fastboot. So you might want to get fastboot setup before trying this. Actually, you probably won't need fastboot, but you will need to restore your custom recovery.
Or use the longer method (takes more time, depends on your download speed), LG mobile support tool.
Once you get the stock recovery.img for your kdz, Open the p765_stock_recovery.zip and copy the 3-recovery.img into the zip file.
Note: Don't change the name of the recovery.img or it will not work
The recovery must be named 3-recovery.img
Place it on you sdcard and flash with cwm and reboot.
Or sideload into your phone with cwm and your computer
Code:
adb sideload p765_stock_recovery.zip

Correct, it relies on the system.img (/system) to work. For example, if you remove /system/bootstrap or busybox it won't work anymore. A true recovery does not need the system.img to operate.
The 2nd init cwm is a recovery, but one mistake and you will softbrick your system.

Two possibilities:
1) in ADB shell or Terminal emulator:
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img
2) use a flash app like Rashr and and make a backup of your kernel.
Both is the same.

Does it work? Can't see how it should work. Maybe as temporary recovery.
OK, analysed it. It is an fake flash update.zip for usage with existing recovery.
May work as temporary CWM if it is signed correct.
For Testing
Find attached CWM-Recovery image to flash via dd or an app like rashr or flashify.
Works with FAT32 SDCARD.
Make sure you have an unlocked bootloader.
Make a backup of your current backup before flashing.
Do it on your own risk!
It is not tested since i have D620R.
Cheers,
Zaaap
Thank you a lot. Did you build cwm by cm source?

Do you think the hack bootloader hacked will work on all version of LG G2 Mini D618? Based on the link the software version of the hack is for V10d and mine is V10c. Don't want to brick my phone, I really want to install the CWM you build for the D618. :good:

Yes, it is build from latest CM 11 source and gives you CWM 6.0.5.0.
The kernel is the original from boot.img.
Last night I successful compiled the kernel from LG source the first time and tried it on my D620r.
Cheers,
Zaaap

Do you think the hack bootloader hacked will work on all version of LG G2 Mini D618? Based on the link the software version of the hack is for V10d and mine is V10c. Don't want to brick my phone, I really want to install the CWM you build for the D618. :good:

I don't know.
I only own a D620r and have only one firmware version of it.
But you can check if aboot changed from V10d to V10c using a hex editor.
If you can understand Russian got to 4PDA.ru.
They did all the hacking original.
What ever you do to the low level partitions of your phone, you always risk a brick.
If you don't want to take the risk leave your phone original.
It is a good phone anyway.
For me it is also a hobby/toy to tweak it.
If it bricks I have a new hobby to unbrick it .
Cheers,
Zaaap

Thanks for the advise Zaaap! :good: Maybe I'll try to stick to stock for the moment. Maybe I'll wait for LG's announcement regarding unlocking the bootloader, I just hope they offer it also for other LG users who is not using their flagship devices.
Some of this cwm will work on a D625?
Zaaap72 said:
Does it work? Can't see how it should work. Maybe as temporary recovery.
OK, analysed it. It is an fake flash update.zip for usage with existing recovery.
May work as temporary CWM if it is signed correct.
For Testing
Find attached CWM-Recovery image to flash via dd or an app like rashr or flashify.
Works with FAT32 SDCARD.
Make sure you have an unlocked bootloader.
Make a backup of your current backup before flashing.
Do it on your own risk!
It is not tested since i have D620R.

Could you please reboot to the faulty recovery and try to adb your phone.
Tell me the result.
Boot back to normal, use a root explorer, go to /cache/recovery and send me the log if there is any.
Thank you.

[TWRP 2.8.7.0 64bit a51_ul/a51_tuhl (Europe/Australia) RELEASE

Hello
Here is attached link to TWRP 2.8.7.0 for Qualcomm's version of 64bit htc_a51ul and htc_a51tuhl. Not sure if it will work with htc_a51dtul (dual sim version for India/Asia) but if someone want to test, please do.
To flash phone, use below fastboot as HTC was change version for 64bit bootloader, so if You use Linux on Your PC, get My version, put together with recovery.img in same folder, restart phone into bootloader and execute:
Code:
chmod 755 fastboot
Code:
./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
NOTE that dot and slash are IMPORTANT. If You skip it, will not use My fastboot but other which probably not work and You will get error flashing.
If You are on windows, please use latest version of fastboot for windows.
As usual, TRWP sources are on Omnirom github, device sources are on My github.
NOTE THAT YOU NEED TO HAVE 64bit BOOTLOADER (Lollipop installed on device)
Happy rooting
CAUTION: I am not responsible if You delete and/or brick Your device!!!

EDIT1: attach removed due to bug inside. Will attach new one asap fix bug and recompile.
EDIT2: attach attached back

Yes That's what I think!
I think the cause of the problem may be HBOOT!

No 64bit sources. HTC push OTA's but not release sources on htcdev.com, what is very unusual as GPL say that they MUST to release sources. Nevermind, We can handle that part soon with reverse engineering.
Only what is, let say, close to a51 Qualcomm hardware is sources for Desire 826 (a52) but with lots of changes and patches.
Thank You, tested on A51_UL EU. Works great!

I can fix that problem but I am not maintainer of omnirom, so not My or Your problem.

Hello.
I tried once to change my stock recovery img but I ended up with a non compatible one and it has been impossible to find a good one.
I can only use my PC and ADB to flash one.
I'm using windows 10 and this model htc_a51tuhl. I have ADB and everything installed.
When i try to flash the recovery you posted: CMD "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", it says "invalid sparse file format". I assume that the file is too big, but why?
Isn't it supposed to work? or it's only for linux users? Can someone inlight me please.
I'm struggling to find a working recovery to root my phone and so if someone share a working one for me, that would be very very nice.

[Stock Recovery] Getting back to Stock Recovery after you've flashed TWRP.

As you know, TWRP still doesn't support FBE, so in-case if you wanna flash another system.img the Wipe data/factory reset in TWRP wouldn't work (at least didn't work for me).
That would force you to get back to stock recovery, which allows a successful factory reset.
Steps are pretty straight forward, if you already have a backup of your stock recovery just do the below steps, if else you could download one from the below link.
Put the device into fastboot mode. There are two ways to do that.
1)By long pressing the power button and volume down button whilst the USB is connected.
2)Just do a adb reboot bootloader command if you could boot into the system.
Then just do
Code:
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdisk.img
Then disconnect the USB and long press the power and volume up button until you see the "The device is booting now" message.

Thanks, you saved me.
Thanks
Just created a md5sum of your recovery and my backed up recovery. It's exactly the same size but the md5sum is different.
A quick look with a hex editor also shows some big differences. Is that expected?

MD5 hash wouldn't possibly match, because the backup was taken using dd and there might be some config files modified or added when I used the stock recovery once. But, hey the thing would work if you have BKL-L09 device
Thanks. This works!

Not sure, as it might check integrity before giving updates. Just download Firmware Finder app and check for updates constantly.

You will receive the updates but you won't be able to install them with TWRP. Simply flash the stock recovery and the updates will self install when they come. You'll have to root again with Magisk after the updates, but that's a simple process.

Hie,
How can I get back from lineage OS to stock using this? I guess I'm on the same boat as a lot of people out there and could really use some help here. I'm on Cosmos OS and can't go back to stock. I tried flashing this recovery.img but can't figure out a way back.
Reboot to bootloader, flash system recovery_ramdisk and ramdisk. Reboot to recovery wipe cache, reboot system enjoy.
Works every time fine for me

Apparently, there isn't any system.img file in the Indian firmware I downloaded. The rest are there but not the system.img.
Someone please help me out
I can't flash system.img as I was told in an earlier reply, it returns me an error that says 'Error: Cannot load System.':crying: I tried using -P and 256M commands to see the space divided and none of these worked either. CAN SOME PLEASE HELP ME OUT WITH THIS?
I cannot find system.img in the Indian firmware either, that is making things tough for me.

You should have made a backup before you started "tinkering" with your device. Lesson learned, hopefully.
