There is a high probability that this will cause an unrecoverable brick, as reported to me:
fstable in this cwm isn't a SGII partition table. The recovery will not work at all and can definitively cause bricks.

I know this is true as touch recovery has already caused bricks on other devices, the Note, for example. Let's not share dangerous methods like this where people who don't know any better might suffer the consequences.

Introduction:
Team Win Recovery Project, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features. It's a fully touch driven user interface , no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Key Features:
Touchscreen driven with real buttons and drag-to-scroll
XML-based GUI that allows full customization of the layout true theming!
Settings are saved to the sdcard and persist through reboots
Ability to choose which partitions to back up and which to restore
Ability to choose to compress backups now with pigz (multi-core processor support for faster compression times)
Onscreen keyboard
Decryption of /data
Easy selection of internal/external storage
See changelog below for new features
In addition to the above new features, TWRP features a scripting engine that allows an app to send commands to the recovery for the recovery to perform during startup. We call this scripting engine OpenRecoveryScript. This engine will be put to use immediately in the GooManager app. GooManager will be able to install recoveries automatically for most supported devices. The app will also let you choose to install multiple zips from within Android, wipe cache & dalvik, and run a backup.

FAQs
Q. How boot on recovery?
A. With the device turned off, press power and vol- at same time until it vibrates.
Q. Does it works with stock or custom ROMs?
A. At this momment I know that it is fully compatible with stock ROMs (or stock based ROMs) but at this momment is not tested with custom ROMs, so you users have to test it and report.
Installed the TWRP 3.2.3-0 on CarbonROM 6.1 (Android 8.1). So far so good, seems alright to me.

Just tried flashing the latest Carbon and it worked for me. Haven't tested flashing stock ROMs myself though
Just tried to install the zip on my Z3 compact.
My phone has full encryption enabled (complete including the sd card).
Your build of TWRP is not able to decrypt the phone.
It always tells me "Password failed, please try again!" even though the given passsword is correct (I can start the system with the same one).
amazing
Installed on OMNI with TWRPapp, flahed Carbon and then RR.
All it was fine and, finally, no "Error 7".
Thank you for this!
I have a question, I have encrypted my device (CarbonRom cr6) and now when I try to access TWRP I draw my security pattern and I get a failed to decrypt message.
The pattern is the one I use on a daily basis to use my device so this is related to TWRP. Any suggestion?
Maybe this twrp has a problem with support encription?
Carbon ROM expects TWRP with ro.build.product or ro.product.device equal z3c (not aries) . Modified original image using this method https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...because-of-empty-system.3554252/post-85881113
For Lineage (18.1), this (3.3.1) TWRP version is recommended, but it seems to have issues preserving the survival scripts (e.g. of Magisk) over OTAs. Unfortunately, the device isn't supported on twrp.me

Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) is an open-source software custom recovery image for Android-based devices. It provides a touchscreen-enabled interface that allows users to install third-party firmware and back up the current system, functions often unsupported by stock recovery images. It is, therefore, often installed when rooting Android devices, although it isn't dependent on a device being rooted to be installed.
Flash command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
What's working
- ZIP flashing
- Partitions wiping and formatting
- Data decryption
- ADB and MTP
- USB-OTG
- SD card
- Backup and restore
- File managing
- Brightness slider
- Vibration
- LED
What's not working
- Physical buttons (use navigation bar instead)

Hi SebaUbuntu,
I just tried installing your unofficial TWRP on my Zenfone 4 Max Pro (ZC554KL), and it gets stuck on the "powered by Android" screen. I have Android AOSP Pie beta installed (downloaded from the ASUS website).
I tried the official version 3.2.2 which worked before I updated to Android Pie, and it goes into a reset loop. Your version 3.4.0 (from the X00I folder) stops at the "powered by Android" screen.
Any idea on how to get it to work? Or do I need to wait for a new version of TWRP for my phone?
NOTE: I'm using fastboot to boot the TWRP image. I can't get it to boot via any other method.
No response... Can anybody help me?

Well then u try boot into fastboot and then use command line to boot into TWRP.
Then wipe system, cache, data and flash the rom.
I think it should works.
BTW, also vol+&power bottom doesn't work?
And Im also wonder that if I want to root z4max, when should I flash Magisk? Right after I flashed the ROM or after first boot? (It seems excrypted and I'm unable to decrypt, it just shows "Decryption takes too long, killing process")
At that time I use another TWRP, I want to flash this one instead but the download link didn't works.
What a pity....
