[Q] Easiest way to return my phone to stock to send back to Virgin Mobile? - HTC Desire 601

I've been out of the loop with this phone for so long that I think I need a refresher on how to return this to stock. I am getting a replacement phone sent from Virgin Mobile as mine is having issues with the charging port and battery contacts making things crazy like the screen comes on randomly all the time and the headphone jack stops working. Should be easy as I am still on Jellybean, rooted, and I have Philz touch. Only thing I'm concerned about really is the HTC screen says "tampered" I've actually sent phones back to Virgin Mobile before though with custom roms on them without trouble but I don't know if they've gotten more strict.

Just run the RUU from the link above. You should be perfectly fine unless you tried to update to kitkat and failed in that case, flash the stock jellybean hboot from the same link. RUU is self explanatory.

I see the RUU is an exe file. Does that mean it needs to be run on the PC with my phone connected or on my phone?
Also to get rid of Philz touch and get stock recovery back I flash the stock recovery from that list?
HTC Desire 601 (Zara_CL)

Yes connect your phone to your pc and start the RUU. It will restore stock recovery for you. You'll need to be in boot loader when you start the RUU with administrative rights.
Sent from my HTC0P4E1 using XDA Free mobile app

U dont need to boot into bootloader. Just boot into android and run the ruu as administrator. If ur anti-virus detects it as a virus, disable it. Make sure u disable stand-by mode and close all runnin apps on ur pc

Okay sounds simple enough. Do I need adb drivers for the ruu.exe to communicate with my phone?
HTC Desire 601 (Zara_CL)

Yes. Go to htc.com and download htc sync manager. It comes with the driver for ur phone

I keep getting an error 155 when trying to do this? What am I doing wrong? thanks.

U need to relock ur bootloader. Get into fastboot and type fastboot oem lock

Thanks I finally found it out and it worked like a charm

[Q] [q] how do I unbrick an amaze that wont go into recovery?

Backstory: I tried flashing android revolution for the amaze once, and it didn't work (error 1) left it alone for a bit after recovering it, went back to bulletproof and flashed faux .009 kernel, then decided to try again...
Well I'll try to make this brief, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong subforum but here goes, I tried going from bulletproof 2.5.0 to Android Revolution HD and didn't flash the superwipe .zip (lazy me). The install failed with the same error 1, only this time I can't boot back into recovery. Booting to bootloader works but when I tried going into recovery I see it pop up for maybe a fraction of a second before the phone reboots.
I've tried reflashing clockwork mod but no dice
any sort of tips you folks can give me to steer me in the right direction?

Not sure about the Amaze tbh, but if I had a failed flash on either of my HTC phones, I just re RUU'd.
D'oh! I forgot about that! Had to do that for my buddy's thunderbolt a few times. Lemme give that a shot and I'll report back

You need to superwipe the phone and flash the ROM. After the ROM flashes, you have to flash the kernel twice.

Same with you. You need to superwipe the phone and flash the ROM. After the ROM flashes, you have to flash the kernel twice.
Superwiping the phone removes all the data from the old ROM so you can install a fresh clean ROM.
If you want to install the RUU, you have to relock the bootloader first and then you can reflash the original RUU
Edit: i was misinformed

To flash an official RUU, you must relock it. I've done so plenty of times lol
Sent From My HTC Amaze 4G via Someone's Room
If the phone wont go into recovery, you have to use ADB and wipe the cache partition for it to go into recovery again. This is apparently a bug with some of recoveries posted by other devs in the development forum. You need to use fastboot.exe to wipe the cache via adb
And if... If the superwipe doesn't work due to recovery version you have try to boot in to your Bootloader run one of hasoon's tool and choose different recovery.. it did happen to me the bootloop before due to the fact the old roms like mike's rom. he doesn't update his script to support the newer recoveries and it doesn't support X's recovery, it will give you an error installation.. just try different recoveries and for sure your problem will be solved..
just make sure boot in your bootloader/H-boot then run hasoon's tool and have enough battery just to make sure...

Thanks for the good info Sir but i my HTC Amaze is bootloader locked and S-ON but i cannot find a RUU for T-mobile to unbrick it. Will a Ruu such as this one work?
RUU_Ruby_Videotron_CA_1.46.1530.1_R2_Radio_1.09.550L.17DC_30.68.550L.09_release_227343_signed.exe
My HTC Amaze scans all the versions of the PH85IMG i place on the sd card but goes back to the menu when its down
any advice that could help i will appreciate!
There's a thread in the dev section that has about a dozen RUUs. I don't see how one can miss it.
Thanks for your reply but i was a little unsure and did not want to make my phone any worst than it already is.
Can you explain 1 thing thing for me please - RUU always you to flash the phone via the computer? where as PH85img.zip allows you to flash the phone via sdcard? I hope i am correct here.
but i want to know how can i flash the phone when its connected via HBoot usb cause my pc recognizes it as "Android Composite ADB Interface"
Currently this is what is on my lcd
LOCKED
RUBY PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.93.0002
EMMC BOOT
MAR 15 2012
i have tried several PH85img.zip files but the phone just scans them and goes back to the menu.
Some help will be appreciated extremely.

I forgot to mention it connects to the pc but when i run command adb devices this is what i get

The latest ruu would be your best option, do not put the .zip part of the name since its already there, also a ruu may be an exe or zip file, since it is a complete stock file to restore the device, what would your carrier be to be exact? Just not up to reading through everything in this thread to see if you mentioned that piece of info, if its tmobile then the very first file in the stock ruu/ota thread would be the file you need.

Why are you using recovery exactly?
RUU's are to be flash via hboot, which is the very first screen you see when you go into the device's bootloader, in the case of exe files, you'll need to flash it via fastboot mode, which happens to be, correct me if I'm wrong, the very first or second option on the hboot menu.
yes you are correct cause i just tried it with an RUU from another carrier. i found out that the phone had 2.14.531 software installed. but the RUU i was using was 1.46 and so i got a signature error 132. now i need to find a way to remove the 2.14.531 software and replace it with a lower version. can you help me here

[Q] How to install Ice Cream Sandwich RUU on HTC Desire S?

I have an HTC Desire S and I want to download the official ICS update but I don't know how to get it. I downloaded the RUU off the HTCdev website but then I don't know what to do after that. Can someone just give me a clear cut way in how to install it please? Do I have to root or unlock bootloader? Thanks.

I want a fresh install of official ICS because my current custom ROM has bugs, will this RUU erase my current ROM and Clean install the ICS?
It will erase everything on the device except SD card, restore bootloader to locked state, format all partitions, and install offical ICS. It'll return your phone to factory condition, that's what the purpose of RUU is. Just connect your phone to your computer, run the RUU and let it do its thing. Suppose your custom ROM doesn't boot, then press and hold power+volume down, the phone will boot into bootloader and show 'FASTBOOT USB'. Now connect it to the computer and run the RUU, it'll work.
Note: You can only upgrade via RUU, not downgrade.

thanks buddy and please help me lil further,i have 2.00.2002 hboot and S-ON, so am i still able to install the official ICS or I have to do the S-OFF first??
No problem. S-OFF is only required for flashing custom recoveries and subsequently flashing ROMs. The state of the bootloader i.e. S-ON or S-OFF doesn't matter if you're running an RUU. It will restore the bootloader to stock S-ON state. Since ICS is the last RUU for Desire S, you can't have a hboot version that higher than the one in the RUU. So whatever hboot you have, just run the RUU and you'll be back to stock.
Thanx alot

Backup/Restore App Recommendations?
From the posts in this thread I gather all data will probably be lost.
Are there any recommendations for a backup/restore app that:
1. Works with both GB & ICS seamlessly (would hate to backup and not be able to restore)
2. Works for Contacts/SMS and app settings as well.

Yes it will. It'll restore the stock recovery. You'll have to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery again if you want.

It's recommended not to restore application data between phones/ROMs. It can cause a lot of force closes, incompatibilities and errors. Also, you need to be rooted to restore data. You should always do a clean install when you get a new phone, which just involves adding your Google account, letting the phone restore contacts, apps, system settings etc automatically, and then reconfiguring all your apps. It doesn't take too long to do that if you do it quickly.
For SMS, use 'SMS Backup & Restore. Saving your contacts as Google contacts is the easiest and best way to restore contacts. That said, try Titanium Backup or the new and much easier to use 'Carbon - App Sync and Backup' if you want to backup and restore apps + app data.
Note: Restoring apps and app data requires root, so if you're unrooted, you must install apps from Play Store and set them up. You should do this anyway if you want to avoid all possibility of errors.

[Q] AT&T One X+, Cannot boot into recovery, red exclamation mark and phone image

Hey guys,
After months of going through every possible related thread, or almost every one, i've reluctantly had to resort to opening a new one.
I have the AT&T HTC One X+ and I wanted to use it in Pakistan with the service provider being mobilink, Initially my phone was locked so I had to purchase an unlock code online. Once unlocked I inserted my Pakistani sim and I could make calls but wifi would not connect to any network and mobile data would not work at all. Frustrated, i turned to rooting and installing a custom ROM for the first time ever, thinking it would solve my problem according to my research on this forum. In retrospect I might have been wrong.
Nevertheless, I installed CM10, the brainchild of the highly esteemed Lloir, without any hitches via Hasoon's toolkit. I didnt care about my data and tried to make a recovery but I might have failed. Anyways, I downloaded the RUU as well. Everything was fine except the problems we all knew about i.e the calling issue, the camera, etc. Except, my problem was still not solved; my Pakistani sim always had the same effect, wifi and mobile data would stop working. It would take a factory reset to be able to use wifi and MD at all.
Frustrated, i wanted to try another ROM, namely Viper. Here is where the current problem began. I followed the steps on Hasoons toolkit thread to uninstall the custom ROM, revert to default, and relock the bootloader. Ever since i relocked the bootloader I havent been able to either unlock it again, nor boot into recovery. Command prompts never work for me because I'm obviously doing something wrong. But i did set-up the android sdk custom prompt thing and made the desktop shortcut and that seems to at least recognize my phone when its not in fastboot (as does my windows 7 ultimate 64-bit laptop), or in other words, when i'm using the phone proper and not in bootloader.
So, to highlight my issues: i'm stuck with a relocked bootloader with the default ROM (i did manage to revert back from CM10 before relocking), and i cannot boot into recovery. Luckily, i'm $10/month for insurance so I can get another phone for $200 but I'd rather man up and fix this myself with your help of course.
Please help,
Thanks,
Ammar.
Why not just flash a ruu again and start from scratch? It does it all for you.
You won't be able to get into recovery, manipulate fastboot and install roms etc since u locked your bootloader.
Relock bootloader, run ruu, unlock bootloader then flash custom recovery via fastboot and install a rom.
Find the ruu here for:

[Q] Trouble flashing ROM, believe is due to S-OFF

Hello. So I've tried multiple times flashing ROMs to my device, and have always had problems somewhere along the line. The furthest I got was successfully flashing this ROM, but it ended up in a boot loop. I believed it was due to my device being S-ON, even though I've successfully rooted and unlocked my bootloader via HTCdev and thus I've been attempting to get S-OFF. I tried JuopunutBear but got an error message related to checking my adb and fastboot drivers (Which I'm fairly sure are up to date and working) and I think the problem is I am on HBOOT 1.57. I've been attempting to downgrade using this guide (Which uses Revolutionary to get S-OFF in which case I wouldn't need JuopunutBear). I only got a bit of the way in, however, before I got stuck. After relocking my device it tells you to put the RUU zip on your device, but my computer isn't detecting my device and I'm stuck in the bootloader. I've tried shutting it off, trying all the options in the bootloader, taking out the battery, entering commands into adb, and probably some other things I've forgot, but I'm still stuck on the bootloader and my device isn't detected at all on my computer (Either in command prompt or in the explorer window).
Essentially what I'm asking here is:
How do I get my phone unstuck from bootloader?
Do I need S-OFF to be able to flash ROMs?
If I don't need S-OFF, what was I doing wrong? Should I try a different ROM?
And I suppose I may as well ask if that's a worthwhile ROM. I want something that optimizes my device and allows for custom themes, but otherwise I'm not too picky.
Specs:
Windows Vista (With ADB and fastboot, as well as HTC Sync and other phone drivers. Essentially I think I have all the software I'd need installed.)
HTC EVO 3D CDMA with Virgin Mobile as the carrier.
HTCdev unlocked bootloader
S-ON
HBOOT 1.57
Stock ROM
4ext recovery
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
(Also I apologize if I didn't give all the information needed or if I posted this in the incorrect spot. I figured this would be the most appropriate spot since although I have issues with specific processes it's also a fairly general request for help.)
UPDATE: I tried re-unlocking my phone using HTCdev so I'm no longer stuck in bootloader. I'm going to be trying the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit guide again sometime today or tomorrow to see if I can get it working. I think one of the problems before was that I didn't put the RUU on the sdcard beforehand and then my device wasn't being recognized so i couldn't put it there then. If I put it on beforehand I should be able to update successfully and get past the step I was stuck on before.

It will be your hboot causing the problems.
Most recoveries allow you to mount usb storage so you can use that option to connect to your pc and move the ruu across without removing your sdcard etc.

[Q] Unroot help

Need to return my HTC EVO 4G LTE to stock for warranty work (screen).
hboot 2.09
software 3.16
s-on
I read this thread about unrooting but it looks to my noob mind like dirty racun and baby racoon only run ubuntu/linux. I only have access to a Win7 64 bit laptop.
I used TWRP and the HTC token method to root my phone. My bootloader says "tampered" and "unlocked". Sprint guy was cool enough to not enter in any information and let me unroot my phone and bring it back to try again. Apparently Sprint is really cracking down on rooted phones, but I digress...
How can i get back to non-tamperd, locked and remain s-on so i can get my cracked screen replaced?
Thanks

All files should be on your PC
So I though I could just re-lock my phone (fastboot eom lock) and then load an unrooted stock ROM. Nope.
Boot menu says "tampered" and "relocked" but i also get "security warning" when I try to boot into TWRP to load the ROM.
Cannot use fastboot to unlock again either. [FIXED]
Plus TWRP wiped the OS and then failed on the ICS load. So now I have NOTHING.
I can still get to the boot loader though...
EDIT:
I have tried a TON of things. Pushing RUU from fastboot. Locking and relocking, using PJ75IMG.zip files loaded on the sdcard. I have not been able at ALL to get anything to load. I have no OS basically. My phone just boots to a white HTC screen and sits there. I can still get to the boot loader, but nothing I have tried will load without some sort of failure. I can also get to TWRP but it will NOT load any ROMs I have tried. I have tried some ICS ROMs (meanrom, stock and CM) I tried stock JB roms and NOTHING will load. They usually get to partitioning, then just fail. Nothing using adb will work since I cannot get android to load. Only fastboot.
Basically I just want to take this thing into sprint for warranty work on the screen and the volume up button does not work (thank god the vol down does). So if I can just get rid of the "tampered" and re-lock it, I could care less what else works.
