[Q] Block OTA Updates - Fire HD 6 and 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any method to block OTA updates other than not connecting to the internet? I would like to use the device but the OTA updates download & want to install as soon as the device gets internet access. I would rather avoid OTA updates in hope of a root method becoming available at some point.

I bought two of these and one updated on its own and the other has not. Don't know the difference

Updating Rooted and Unlocked Note for tmobile

It says there is a update avaialable for the galaxy note i717 but when i try to update it alwayas tells me that the servers are busy . and will update when they arent busy anymore. yet never updates. is this because i am rooted to get the tmobile 4g working on my note since i have it unlocked for tmobile?
if so is there any way to flash the new update onto my Note?
Theres no update the att servers sometimes just do that.

IMHO I would recommend against you doing any Over the Air Update, unless you know the risks.
One example is, you may loose Root, then you have to wait until a new Root method is found.
Also, there is almost always an issue with being able to take OTA updates on rooted phones. YMMV

[Q] Does AT&T FORCE ROM update to the Note?

If a new ROM is available, will AT&T force the update to the phone? I am worried if this happen while my phone is rooted, the root will be gone.
Will rooting PREVENT the forced update?
I am NOT planning to install Custom ROM, just rooted stock.
its ota it will be offered not forced.
also there are ways to disable the ota check that way you dont even see the prompts and can just wait for the community for a rooted stock rom.

Could you share this "ways to disable the OTA check"?
I just got my Note today and already I received a prompt saying that there is a new "AT&T Software Update". I have NOT rooted my phone yet.
Download titanium backup and freeze it.

Question about Installing android 4.4.3 on rooted N5.

Hello,
I currently own a rooted/unlocked Nexus 5 smartphone and my carrier just pushed me the new android 4.4.3 update and it's been a while since I've been in this situation (get update while running andoird with root access).
My questions are the following:
- If I remeber well from last time I had this situation with my galaxy nexus, installing 4.4.3 will not harm my phone, it will still be unlocked, no data will be lost but I won't have root access anymore nor be able to use apps that require root. Is this correct?
- Is there a way (or will there be a way that I should patiently wait for) to get the 4.4.3 update, whithout loosing data or root access? Last time, I installed the pushed update, lost root, had to wait for the tool I used to be updated, then had to root the phone again and lost all the data (yes I saved most of it but still is a pain in the arse to redo everything).
I am aware that the version just came out and I have no problem waiting for amazing devs to do their mojo, I was just wondering if updating rooted versions was possible without data loss and I should wait for it or if I will have to root the phone again ^^.
Thanks in advance for your answers

Just Received VS98523B over OTA (4/13/15)

Welp just received the OTA update for my phone after restoring to stock, non-root last night. Installing it as we speak.
Official link on Verizon's site has also been updated: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/lg-g3-update/.
Link to the PDF with the updates included with the version: http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/benefits-lg-g3-4-13-15.pdf.
Hopefully this doesn't include any of the bugs reported in the other threads.... we'll see.
EDIT:
Now that I've updated, I see the version number is VS98523C, not 23B in the About page of the phone. Guess they didn't bother updating any of their documentation with the version change.
I wonder hiwbtheyvplan to roll im stock un rooted in 23a and everytime i check i get no joy on the ota

There will be no OTA to 23c from anything but 12b.
Dang
I'm on 12b, but rooted. I rooted at 10b, took all the OTAs to 12b, telling SuperSU to preserve root and it did.
Someone else was on 12b rooted and took the OTA (I have the OTA notification but I'm not installing it until I find out more info on it) and said it failed after rebootl. Probably due to rooting, but I don't know if they did any other modifications (busybox, tethering hack, etc). I only rooted. I've done no other system modifications to the phone, but I don't want to take the OTA to have it fail and mess things up.
I must preserve root for TiBu. Has anyone been able to take the OTA rooted at 12b and preserve it? Or, once getting to LP unrooted, have they been able to root it? I know there was a root method for the unofficial releases, but I do not know if they work for the official release (which is 12b).
I kdz'd to 23C and rooted it. i posted links in the kdz thread.

I'm looking specifically for the official version that I just got from ota. That's 23b from what has been reported, so I need to know if anyone has taken the official 23b ota rooted only, and was able to keep root.
Thanks for the info anyways.
It's not 23b, it's 23c. The docs on the Verizon site, they didn't bother to update them yet. Its even a slightly different 23c than the one leaked recently - different size radio.
Same bugs though. They released it anyway, knowing it won't sync without using up some cell data. Wonder why ?

Well that sucks. Guess I'm definitely staying away from it. Thanks for the info.
There's a long standing thread on this, here...

Please move the discussion there, multiple threads on same topic just make clutter.

Looks like it might be the Stagefright fix if this web site is correct.
It addresses most of the Stagefright vulnerability, except for CVE-2015-3864.
Rooted Users?
Sorry to ask such a noobish question...I've been kind of out of the game for a while...
What should rooted users with TWRP installed do to protect themselves against Stagefright ? Do you think that some kind soul will develop a flashable zip of the update, or should we reinstall the factory recovery? If the latter, is unrooting necessary to take an OTA using the carrier 5.1 rom?
Thanks in advance.
