Lenovo TAB S8-50 - Stock Firmware ROM/Root/emp CWM Session, and Support
Hi All,
I have hard time to figure out since there's no dedicated thread for this tablet. I know you can find couple of posts related to this tablet here in XDA, but again I like all the info for this tablet in one page
My idea here is put all together here in XDA forum, can't promise you that this will be ultimate guide for this tablet, but at least this may help you get started.
By the way; there are 3 models of the TAB S8-50:
Lenovo TAB S8-50F (WiFi)
Lenovo TAB S8-50L (WiFi+ Data)
Lenovo TAB S8-50LC (WiFi+LTE (Voice)

KitKat (Official or Users provided Firmwares)
TABS8-50F_USER_S000143_1409291652_WW14_BMAIN_ROW_US
This is official full stock ROM that comes with device when you first open it (then gets several update patches after that).
Download it and unzip it, you should see doc "how_to_download.docx", follow the instruction to flash firmware above. There's also Lenovo_TAB_S850_V1.0.1.msi for Windows drivers in case you needed.
Update (official patch): Lenovo Official Stock ROM (S000143_140929_ROW_TO_SS000200_150121_ROW) - a big thanks to @KainXSS for getting this for us!
Important: this is update zip that Lenovo pushed the device, it is NOT full ROM. It will most likely break the root, so use the root method here again to re-root once you got updated.

Root Methods
Root (method 1): - - a big thank (спасибо) to Xakep @tigr72 at Lenovo-forums.ru
Root_S8-50LC_tab
This is for S8-50LC, but it works for S8-50F too. Download it your PC (windows only) and hook up your tablet to your PC, and double click on Root_S8-50LC_tab.exe, it should flash SuperSu and root your device.
it is important that your device can be recognized by ADB command in order to root tool work (test your adb connection: adb devices, make sure it connects to your device)
Check @Hash.H's post here for detail instruction; Official "How To" root Lenovo Tab S8-50
Root (method 2):
Check @bogdann8's post here - this method may come handy if you get new firmware upgrade and above method no longer works, then this may be another way to root;

Installing Temp CWM Session
Custom Recovery installing Temp CWM Session (method 1): --> don't use this, use method 2 CWM below
Based on this Russian forum, this works for all variant of Lenovo S8-50L, S8-50F, etc. In fact, I tested and yes it does work.
CWM Recovery for Lenovo S8-50F
Instruction to install CWM:
Make sure that your computer is not connected to other Android phones
Make sure that you have installed the ADB driver for S8-50 tablet
Make sure that the tablet is turned on USB debugging
Connect the device to your computer via USB
Download IntelAndroid-FBRL_LF_Edition.7z file, unzip it on your PC's desktop, and run the program called launcher.bat
If all the conditions and requirements are met, once finalized, the program automatically closes, the tablet will automatically restart and boot into CWM Recovery, from there you can perform full-nandroid backup or any other stuff.
p.s: you need to repeat above steps each time you want to use CWM
Custom Recovery installing Temp CWM Session (method 2):--> Use this CWM from @social-design-concepts
If method 1 does not works for you, try @social-design-concepts Temp CWM session. See his thread for more info and instruction. I have tested this, it works. It seems like you can also restore your CWM nandroid backup with this, see @Lander00 post.

P.s: The last firmware upgrade (build 141203) that Lenovo pushed changes tablet's default DPI 240 to 320. If you happened to get upgrade before root, re-root it and then modify build.prop's to ro.sf.lcd_density=240. The 240 is tablet native default DPI. There's no word when Lenovo officially fix this, see official lenovo user forum below:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Other-Android-based-Tablets/Re-Tab-s8-50-Latest-update-changes-resolution/td-p/1825209
Update: ‎01-28-2015 11:06 AM
Here's one of the stupidest respond from Lenovo Tech Support about their screwed up DPI - this simply tells you that they will keep 320 DPI for any new upcoming updates. Now, why they do this!?, we don't know nor they are giving any technical explanation, but we all know that original native DPI of this tablet is 240.
Solution! Re: Tab s8-50 - Latest update changes resolution?
Options
‎01-28-2015 11:06 AM
At this time, the design for the S8-50 tablet image will be maintained at a DPI of 320.
As noted in this discussion, there are several work-arounds available for customers who prefer a lower setting.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to identifying the issue and the work-arounds.

Using Xposed Framework
XPOSED:
Warning!!:
Please note official @rovo89 's Xposed should support Intel x86 devices now. You may use that. Below is just some workaround from Asus thread x86 in case orginal Xposed thought some may find it useful.
Do not try this if you don't know what you are doing or if you don't have full nandroid backup. This is related to Xposed apps for some x86 devices that causes soft-reboot and
following is a work-around solution from ASUS thread (since it has x86 intel CPU). As I am not heavily using xposed apps, I have not tried this method.
*** Install Xposed: Root is a MUST. USB debug turned on. Windows only and Driver for Intel and ASUS must be ready on PC.
Step1: download xposed apk and install the apk. DO NOT RUN APP AND DO NOT INSTALL FRAMEWORK.
Step2: Run command promt (Run / cmd). assume adb folder is on C:\ drive and you are now in C:\ADB
Step3: Type following (or copy and paste)
adb devices (make sure your phone show!)
adb shell (hit Enter)
su (hit Enter, then look on your phone and touch OK)
echo 148 > /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/jit_reset_offset (hit Enter)
chmod 664 /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/jit_reset_offset (hit Enter)
Step4: Now go to app drawer and run Xposed which you installed earlier. Touch "Framework" and touch "Install/Update"
DONE. Now install addons.http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/asus-zenfone-5-zenfone-6-to-t2839984

As I understand from post of tigr72, this recovery runs ONLY from PC and each time i need to use it i have run it from PC...?
I am not a programer, but this is not my first android device (daily I'm using Motorola Atrix 4G, rooted and with Cyanogenmod 7), so I was confused when i saw information that CWM have to run each time from PC... I was thinking that i do not understand correct what tigr 72 mean.
Or I am wrong now.... and jazzespresso explained how to flash once and correct but I am doing something wrong...
PS. Of course I read the instructions of jazzespresso
Generally thank you for All of your help and work in the forum...

Just checking in to say thanks for making this thread. As an avid Android tweaker, I was a little hesitant to pick up this tablet because the display at the store said it was a "Best Buy Exclusive" which likely meant little to no developer support but I couldn't pass up the specs for the price. Anyway, I was thrilled to see there was a root method. A little bummed about not having custom recovery or ROMs but with Xposed Framework and Titanium Backup I'm a relatively happy camper. Really pleased with the tablet hardware too.

I was in the same boat like you, was hesitant to buy it, but price $149 (plus had $10 bestbuy gift card), and specs of tablet I could not pass it. Ignore what the store says, it is NOT bestbuy exclusive, what they meant they are the only one sells it...As you already know, this is not wildly pupular device like Samsung, so there's virtually no developer support nor custom ROMs, but still you can root it easily and get your root apps working perfectly fine. I would be a bit careful when using Xposed apps, some will cause some issues, but many of xposed apps I tested works just fine.

Any hint on how to remap some keys in the USB keyboard case I bought for this tablet? The f1-12 keys can be remapped for android functions..

Thanks for the root method!!! I bought the tab for the spec and price and wasn't gonna worry about not being able to mod it. BUT....I found this thread and immediately rooted and went to town on it (somewhat). I am just glad I could root it and change a few thing and get rid of bloat.
Just a tip, xposed and GravityBox work great!!

First of all welcome This is one Noob Friendly GUIDE from me, like title says... If theres anything u need feel free to reply in this thread..
Hope everyone here know how to flash ROM, but there re people that still ask me how to flash some ROM, this is guide for them
If youre on 4.2, you should upgrade to 4.4.4 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 (recommended)

ROOT:
First of all you`ill need to root your device:
Or, in List Form:
Ensure you have the proper USB drivers installed, and your phone is in the proper mode (For Verizon, use Ethernet mode on the PC settings menu)
Enable Developer Mode on your phone and enable USB Debugging
Extract this zip file somewhere on your PC
Run root.bat
The phone will ask you to disconnect USB, disable USB debugging, then re-enable it and plug the phone back in, do so when prompted
You will be then asked if you would like to have a superuser package installed, which you can accept or decline

Thanks @thecubed
I think the easiest way to install recovery is to install TWRP using AutoRec app, yeah you could do the same things (flashing/wiping etc..) by installing CWM from TWRP or installing just CWM from adb or however
TWRP:
Guide
Upgrade to KitKat using KDZ / TOT / OTA method
Root your device (using ioroot25)
Install AutoRec (grant root permission)
*D801 must root before taking KitKat OTA

Thanks to: @Cloudyfa
And: @bender_007
Now:
Boot into TWRP/CWM Recovery (Shut down your phone, Press and Hold Volume - and POWER till you see the LG logo appears, then immediatly let the keys and hold them again till you see message about factory reset, just press power button 3 times, dont worry it will not factory reset your phone, it will bring u to recovery )
Go to Install/flash .zip/Rom (name) .zip and swipe or press YES and it will says: Reboot device? go to NO
Now you should flash Gapps, repeat same proccess ( Install/flash .zip/name_gapps.zip ) (GAPPS stands for Google Apps... That includes stuff like the gmail app, google maps, google goggles, etc. ) Do not reboot device, stay into recovery
Now you should do full wipe: Go to advanced/wipe/check: data and swipe (if ure using CWM go just to YES)
Go to advanced/wipe/check: cashe (if ure using CWM go just to YES)
Go to advanced/wipe/check: system (if ure using CWM go just to YES)
Go to advanced/wipe/check: dalvik cashe (if ure using CWM go just to YES)
If it is asking you for installing root, press yes if u wanna root on your device
Yeah finnaly you can reboot your device and enjoy new system

I have to disagree. Been running Ls 4.0 and it works great. Maybe a few bugs but dialer works, MMS, YouTube, camera, WiFi and data, proximity while in call, ect all work. I've been on it since LS released it and much better than kk. Maybe no major customizations but those will be soon to come. An added bonus is the battery, at least for me, is a step above kk.

how to recognize Aliyun

Hi,
i recently bought a Doogee turbo mini f1 smartphone.
The phone has the new Mediatek MT6732 (64-bit) processor and running Kitkat 4.4.4.
I wanted to install Xposed framework on the phone but i aborted it because i got a message in red saying "There seems to be a known problem ("Aliyun OS") with your ROM. Installing Xposed might not work or lead to severe problems.
How can i check if yhe phone is really running Aliyun OS, because everything seems like normal Kitkat? I can't seem to find any info about how to check this.

deodex framework and system app, delete all *.jex files from system/framework - and everything will be works.
BTW
can you make full backup of your ROM and share it?

I didn't make myself backup, and now I've got small problem
I try to resize partition, because default is completely useless, and something went wrong
I'll be grateful for your help.
------------- edit----------------
Doogee released official ROM, so my phone is unbricking
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bziqh7RXsn-DYUlwYUdGdmVaN00/view?usp=sharing
But still I've got a few problems.
- maybe someone could help with resize partition?
- gravity box (KK) works only after soft restart (deodexed ROM and no *.jex files) - any solutions?
Thanks in advance

[TUTO] xposed on ODEX rom; yes it's possible now! (and with knox 0x0 too!)

You don't need to do the complicated process of deodexing your ROM yourself or installing a deodexed Android 5.0 Touchwiz ROM any more prior to installing xposed on our A-series now!
I am however not responsible if you brick your phone; please know the risks of continuing.
Note: this is for Samsung 5.0 Touchwiz only as based on arter97's thread [UNOFFICIAL] Xposed for Samsung Lollipop by arter97!
For 5.1 & 6 please go to Wanam's thread [UNOFFICIAL][5.1.1/6]Xposed for Samsung Lollipop/Marshmallow.
For non Samsung Touchwiz, go to rovo89's thread [OFFICIAL] Xposed for Lollipop/Marshmallow [Android 5.0/5.1/6.0].
For older versions I have no clue, please search the xposed general section.
Warning, this installation needs like 500MB on your system partition to do the conversion (below installation overwrites the system Odex files etc).
Debloat your system partition if necessary! This is really important, otherwise you'll end up in a boot loop!
You can do this with for example GS4 Lollipop Debloat which also works on our devices and SD Maid (thanks to Twiq for this tip in his post)
Debloating is now optional thanks to dkcldark, but it still doesn't harm to clear up some space and get rid of some apps you don't need.
As always, backup everything first, and you might want to have your original ROM zip ready to flash with Odin just in case of.
There is 2 possibilities to get it, one if you don't mind knox counter going up and another one if you want it to stay at 0x0.
Option 1:
knox 0x1, warranty void
This is the easiest one.
Root your device if you haven't done already. Kingroot works great!
If you haven't installed a custom recovery, do so; search the General section of our devices forum to search the TWRP that fits your particular device. Note: I've read that TWRP 3 might cause some issues, so might be better to have version 2. This was at the time of writing; issues might be solved by the time you read this.
Install the xposed installer from this thread. I used XposedInstaller_3.0-alpha4.apk.
Flash xposed bridge from this post through your custom recovery (make sure you have enough space on your system partition, see above). At the moment of writing it was xposed-v79-samsung-test.zip dkcldark's update to v85; download his .zip file from his post here to your phone. This one isn't yet mentioned in the OP as it's a test version.
Clean cache & dalvik.
Reboot. First reboot may take a while.
But after that, xposed is installed!
If everything worked, please report back to arter97's post with a screenshot of Xposed Installer -> Framework with your model number and firmware version as described in his post. And while you're there, buy him a beer! This will benefit future development.
Option 2:
knox 0x0, warranty ok
This one is a bit more complicated as it won't use a custom recovery (which triggers knox).
Root your device if you haven't done already. Kingroot works great!
But Kingroot can't work together with an app we need below, FlashFire, so we need to transform it to SuperSU. Install Super-Sume Pro from Play Store.
Follow on screen instructions of Super-Sume Pro to get SuperSU working.
Mr.W0lf has an alternative option to replace Kingroot by SuperSU through Terminal Emulator here and here (I haven't tested this myself though, so read the complete thread and do research!).
Install the xposed installer from this thread. I used XposedInstaller_3.0-alpha4.apk.
Install FlashFire from Play Store
As FlashFire has some issues with setting permissions of the odex files from the test version of arter97 right, MatrixDJ96 has created a zip which sets the permissions right in this post. Download this xposed-v79-samsung-test-matrixdj96.zip on your phone. dkcldark created an update to v85 with MatrixDJ96's FlashFire fix included; download his .zip file from his post here to your phone.
Open FlashFire, click on the "+"sign, select Flash ZIP or OTA and select the zip file you just downloaded. Continue in next screen; click the "+"sign again and select Wipe. Only select Dalvik cache and Cache partition here and continue.
Go to the bottom of the screen and click on the big Flash button (make sure you have enough space on your system partition, see above).
FlashFire will reboot the phone and start doing it's magic; this might take a while, and first boot too.
But after that, xposed is installed! And you still have your waranty on your phone!
If everything worked, please report back to arter97's post with a screenshot of Xposed Installer -> Framework with your model number and firmware version as described in his post. And while you're there, buy him a beer! This will benefit future development.

Great thread, a quick howto guide to get your device running xposed framework from stock unrooted. And thank you for putting me in the credits, it's feels good that when you know someone is actually reading your posts :victory:
Just a suggestion tho, there will be some people who haven't upgraded to lollipop, and maybe (unlikely now, but maybe) some already upgraded to 5.1.x/above. They will ask you whether these steps could be used on their setup or not, i think you should anticipate that too

I have no experience with 5.1 yet, but you could use the same steps as above but with Wanam's framework:
For 5.1 & 6 please go to Wanam's thread [UNOFFICIAL][5.1.1/6]Xposed for Samsung Lollipop/Marshmallow.
Hi.
Given that SuperSUME is now costing 4,50€ (which seems excessive for me, 1/2$ would be acceptable) do you know if using the alternate metod consisting on using a terminal emulator and a zip file to convert Kingroot to SuperSU would trip Knox?
Thanks for you tutorial.

AFAIK you wont trip knox as long as you don't change your recovery or kernel..
How can one know exactly how much free space there's on system partition to check if I need to debloat or not?
EDIT: Found out. Thanks anyway.
Took a gamble with about 300MB free on System and no problem
Just to report that it worked perfectly.

I've yet to get my A3, just researching what I want to do to it when it arrives. xposed is on the list.
If I root with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series/development/galaxy-series-cf-auto-root-t3280406
Can I then follow the rest of Option 2?
Many thanks.
Edit - as that method installs SuperSU I am assuming Option 2 will work - correct me if I am wrong

Yes indeed, but I think that method also trips knox so you could also install a custom recovery and go with option 1.
I prefer not to trip it and keep my warranty, thus option 2 with kingroot, but that's my personal preference.

[ROOT][TWRP][MODS][ROMS] WIKO U Feel Prime

Okay, So before I show you all the goodies for your Wiko U Feel Prime let me tell you a little bit about whats going on...
I technically do not own a U Feel Prime, how ever I own the variant Blu Life One X2 Mini, though it seems to be very closely related according to GSMarena
Managed to port TWRP recovery originally from the Redmi 3S (again closely related) to the Life One X2, which I then ported to the Life One X2 Mini (confusing; I know). Long story short, this version of the ported TWRP recovery has been confirmed to work on the U Feel Prime.
Before I get into how to install TWRP and root your U Feel Prime there are a few things that need to be noted....
1. If the wiko is using the same kernel that is one the Life One X2 Mini then you WILL NOT be able to remount /system partition as RW (read and write) (PLEASE TEST THIS AND REPORT BACK TO ME)
2. DO NOT INSTALL SUPERSU AND MAGISK; choose ONE. They don't tend to play very nicely with each other. Which can lead to weird errors and soft bricks.
3. Magisk will also allow for systemless host file (to install Adaway), busybox and TONS of other systemless goodies
4. If TWRP gives you any issues (vibrates and reboots when performing flashes or nandroid backups) then boot into TWRP, select "mount" then disable MTP.
Let's get down to it:
download here: TWRP RECOVERY
1. Enable Development Options
2. Go into Development Options and enable OEM Unlocking
3. Connect phone to computer and open command prompt, run command "adb reboot bootloader"
4. Run the command "fastboot oem unlock"
5. Reboot into system to make sure everything is all good
6. again run command "adb reboot bootloader"
7. run fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img"
8. Then boot into twrp "fastboot boot TWRP.img"
9. Tap on 'reboot' at the bottom corner and select 'system'
To get root simply flash the latest Magisk12.zip
I will be updating this thread periodically.
If you want to try some other mods, tools, guides and ROMs designed for the Life One X2 and Life One X2 mini then check out BLOX2.com
BE SURE BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING THAT IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE LIFE ONE X2 MINI; OTHERWISE YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!
Also, if anyone would be so kind to send me a nandroid backup of /boot and /system so that I can make a flashable Stock ROM.

Huawei honor 8x max root/rebrand help

I need a complete genius help please...
I have this fairly new ARE-AL00(C00) Honor 8x Max, switched from an iPhone X, very new to this jailbreaking an android type of thing, but basically I have a chinese left swipe board called HiBoard and chinese launcher called huawei home and all that good stuff with the china build (C00) I am guessing. I heard if I switch my phone to a (C432) EU version, It would come with the google on the left side and all that google stuff which is what I want. I tried to go to funkyhuawei but I see maybe my phone isnt available yet and firmware. So then I decided maybe I could root my phone and change model number to something different so I can get other models and firmware correct to rebrand? Or will that not work? I have tried nova launcher and the companion but it goes away after some time even with the huawei home launcher disabled. So I am guessing rebranding would make the google stuff totally work correctly, but I am having so much trouble! tried to flash twrp but says unknown partition and getvar variable is not available.. I am running EMUI 8.2.0 Android Version 8.1.0 Build Number ARE-AL00 8.2.0.128(C00) Just need a real guide step by step or something please would be a miracle... loosing my mind trying to figure this out..

Jailbreaking and rooting can be a but confusing but are similar in many terms like both allow you to modify system .
About the rooting part....... Huawei just messed up things a while ago. You cannot get the bootloader unlock code which is needed to unlock bootloader to modify the system or any other partitions. Which means no root.
And how can you flash TWRP when you can't unlock the bootloader at the first place? And that might be what failed the TWRP installation
I also have that version but I don't have PC a guy over at twrpbuilder is offering to help build one for us but I can't extract none of the files because I don't have a PC in order to run Huawei update extractor I have the firmware file do you have a PC so you can extract the files and send them to him??
Sent from my Ascend Mate 2 using Tapatalk
I had it unlocked before but reset the phone which maybe after Huawei did that the oem unlock didn't show anymore, but I bought an unlock code and everything worked up until it was giving me the error codes. But I just ran Pixel launcher and got Google running in background all the time in app launch settings in battery like how it really should be using Google data anyway. Used ADB SHELL and app inspector to see files and hide/delete them, whatever the ADB she'll actually does. All is good. No root/boot unlock needed
I'm trying to get a twrp built for it but I don't have pc to get needed files

That's right. My language is Russian. The team for sewing the image of the recoveries will most likely be exactly the one I wrote above. It would be safe to risk and select the appropriate TWRP if there was an original recovery image. All the firmware that was able to get in the open spaces of the Internet do not have the BOOT and recovery sections.

Also, I would have expected available roms to be listed here but none are shown as yet: https://www.getdroidtips.com/huawei-honor-8x-max-stock-firmware/ .
I will be watching closely for this myself as I want to shed this Chinese ROM asap
