Tethering/Hotspot - Sprint HTC One (M9)

Has anyone gotten any form of tethering to work on this phone yet? (either by modding the native hotspot or a separate app)
Has anyone tried this MOD on their M9 and gotten it to work?

Have you tried flashing the script?

No, because it has framework edits. That could be a disaster. On the other hand, I have a backup... nothing to lose i guess, except time.

Hello,
You might want to look into /system/customize there are two files in the sprint rom that contain the APNs in an encrypted format (cust_cdmaconn.dat and cust_gsmconn.dat) . I was unable to decrypt them, but found that simply deleting them reverts the APN settings to the ones located in /system/framework/framework-res.apk > xml > apn.xml
I have been changing my APNs for a while and find it easier to change them directly in the framework-res.apk. I have an old version of apktool and a few bat files that I use. I can upload them if you need them or can't decompile the framework-res.apk yourself. Hope that is what your looking for.

Hello,
Glad you got it, I did understand you have a mod coming, was only trying to add some new knowledge I found out about the M9. This thing seems much different then the M8. Interested to see how you did it.

yeah, @chas123 figured this out a while ago, shortly after posting his M8 mod...so now in our M8 ROM (and upcoming M9 ROM) we are deleting cust_cdmaconn.dat, and changing the apn in fwres & also another edit in telephony-common.

for this hack, u need to be on a deodexed ROM...I'll be posting a stock rooted deodex ROM, if you want to go that route

Thanks for the reply about the hack and the deodexed ROM. If that ends up being the best solution to get tethering, then I will go that route. My question, as I am unclear, is can that ROM then be applied without the loss of the customization and app settings on the phone? Also, future OTA updates would not work as they would have to be applied via your releases, correct?

But no more "broken" than rooting was now. If you used the existing procedures to lock, restore stock recovery etc. then you could take OTA and reunlock, etc.
That would be the only way to get the firmware from the next OTA (until we s-off). Right?

Exactly, it makes no difference how big or small of a change to system, ota will be broken.
Even after s-off, you will have to flash a untouched system and stock recovery to install ota.

Ice Cream Sandwich Status Bar Icons

Would anyone have the status bar icon set for Ice Cream Sandwich, or have a link to them for me? I'm looking for the usual Back, Home, Menu, but also the wifi, battery and other icons.
Been going through the SystemUI.apk and want to change some of the icons. Thank you!

Example? None of the one's ive ever seen will change the status bar *to the degree that OP wants.
And if you want to find the icons OP, I can upload them in a bit, but you can always just look at a system dump from the Galaxy Nexus or something.

They might need to be resized for the NT status bar (I still haven't done much playing with the SystemUI.apk yet, at this point I'm almost just waiting to see if someone can figure out how to remap the buttons and then go from there), but hopefully this is what you were looking for.

how to replace? Unzip the attached, copy the apk to your sd card, copy it to system/etc first, change permission to rw-r-r then move it to system/app .. ignore the force close , just power off the nook and power it on again.
for the ics batt icons, i'll attached the resized images here, you'll need to extract the framework-res and replace the batt images..

I used NinjaMorph to extract the framework-res.apk on the tablet as I was using it so I didn't have to mess with apktool. It worked great for a simple .png swap.
Here's the link for it: https://market.android.com/details?id=stericson.ninjamorph.free&feature=search_result
It requires root and busybox to be installed. Also, make sure debugging is ENABLED.
And always, make sure to backup everything!

If I remember correctly the better versions are 1.17.* or 1.19.* . This is because there were several integral components missing from the 1.18 iterations.

Thanks very much, question do the SystemUI's attached make n button act like a standard Home button?
I want to release 2 versions of root "RootME", inspired of Indirect's & Cfoesch methods but adding modified SystemUI, framwork-res, build.prop and adding other .apk's along with the necessary files to block OTA after root (A step that many don't do because they think that by applying Indirect's script will do it).
if anyone would like to help me testing would be much appreciated just PM me if interested!

I'll probably be working on the 'n' button this week to have it work how I would like.
I'm still getting familiar with the .smalis and .xmls.
Using revcompgeeks SystemUI.apk, it acts as a natural Home button. I would like to have it as a Back button first, and a Home button second, either buy long press or double press. I rarely use Home, pretty much only when something freezes up and I need to quit to force stop it.
manage to get the reading button remapped to home .. hooray. just need to do more testing first.

Checkbox Icons for EnergyRom (3/10 build) show up as SRS icon

Hi, couldn't post this in development, forum wouldn't allow it. In any case, I have Energy rom installed for my Amaze, the new 3/10 version, and since I first installed this rom a month or so ago, the checkbox icons throughout the OS show up as the SRS Enhancement icon. No reason why, but I've posted a picture to show what I'm referring to.
I was wondering if there was a way to fix this. I've wiped and reinstalled, and still get the same result. I've also flashed the correct kernel, so I don't think that's the issue.
Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update 16/08/14 [JB]Custom bootanimations for S Advance

HI there, I give to you a custom bootanimation for S Advance. At the time of making this thread, there were no kernels support it but there is an app that will make it possible. You can also install a cocafe kernel now that supports custom bootanimation.zips
Here is the thread
Bootanimation4u thanks to XDA developer smokin133. A
And thanks to Abhinandh Ajay for finding this app for without it I wouldn't be able to share the bootanimation
Install that first from recovery and reboot then copy the bootanimation.zip (see attached) to your system/media with your favorite explorer that access the root partition. This isn't a flashable zip.
Here are a couple screenshots of the animation:

Updates Here are a couple of flashable zips with a better version of the bootanimation imho. They both are in qmg format. Probably only will work in stock firmware but if anyone tries it in CM or KitKat roms report if it works or not. I installed it with TWRP but should install with CWM. Just make sure to mount system before installing. As always you want to back up your originals in case you want to go back to them.

Here is a flashable zip that says Galaxy SII Lite instead. Also qmg format.

simple steps for installing custom bootanimation
Hi guys i have a simple steps for those who wanna install a custom bootanimation on their samsung s advance phone...
(Your device must be rooted)
1st, i suggest that you must use or have the ROM TOOLBOX apps.
2nd, download the bootanimation that you wanna use, choose that compatible with your device, in this case, SGSA.
3rd, open the ROM TOOLBOX apps, go to iINTERFACE tab, look for BOOT ANIMATIONS and tab it.
4th, after that, it will bring your root file and search for ROMTOOLBOX, tab it, search for boot_animations, tab it, choose your disire bootanimation, install and reboot.
Opsss, i almost for got, if you download it to your device, copy the file to roomtoolbox(in your /sdcard > boot_animations > paste
Your're done !
IF ANYTHING HAPPENED TO YOUR DEVICE, I WILL NOT RESPONSIBLE TO IT, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!! THE STEPS ABOVE WORKS FOR MY DEVICE AND I'M NOT GUARANTEED IT WILL WORK FOR YOUR DEVICE TOO

you must have in bootanimation.zip your original samsung boot animation.... see in the first post thread link i think it contains..
you can also download it with that root boot animation app....:good:
Whats the use of the app? Can't I just open bootanimation.zip and put all the files in the corresponding folder??
I'm asking this because I want to add this "feature" to my ROM

not the bootanimation.zip. maybe the bootanimation4u tho. there are two files that go to system/bin. if it works make sure to give credit to the developer of that please.

One Big Reason to root
Wao!! Just Got KITKAI UI on X1000. Looks awesome
Heres a screenshot:-
Rooting really rocks
Hey, how do you unroot? (As it is the Xolo Customer Care Sucks, so the warranty is really important..)
Help!!!
Hey, I have a small problem.. I used a root app called Soft Keyz and now both my notification bar and soft keys are missing.. I did a little research and realized that it has to do with a borked systemui.apk. So could you please give me your systemui.apk by any chance? I'm kinda screwed here without the soft keys.. Appreciate if you could get back to me soon.. Thanks

Yup sure.
Im uploading both systemUI.apk and systemUi.odex. You might need to replace both. And remember to correct permissions.

Only method known yet is to flash stock firmware from here.
And Xolo wont help if we have a software issue. Software is supplied by intel and xolo supplies it. Colo engineers also seem to be novice.
I luckily had an opportunity to meet their software manager. I asked him if he could provide a unlocked bootloader, he was unaware of what a bootloader is. They only distrubute OTA Updates.

Yeah, I had a similar experience about their engineers. They mentioned to me too, that the Bootloader is not in their hands.. Well, that's what happens when you try a budget company. All we can hope for is updates, now..
I was all set to buy the Galaxy Grand Quattro but i thought I'd try Xolo, for the Processor and the beautiful screen.. Guess I should've stuck to my instincts
Anyway, thanks for the files.. Everything's back to normal now.. Cheers..

Hey, did you confirm that this technique works?
---------- Post added at 11:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:28 PM ----------
Guys! Now that we finally rooted the phone, let's try doing the one thing that can make our devices fulfill their worth.. That is finding a way to run windows 7 or Windows 8 on the phone. I'm not talking about wp7 or wp8 but the actual windows.. The phone has an x86 processot. So why can't this be done?! 2Ghz and 1GB ought to be enough for a smooth experience.. Guys, please try to work on this..
IT doesnt seem fake either

Edit:- The root procedure they posted was fake. And a comment said it worked. So im a bit suspicious about it. I would recommend you to do some research and go ahead.
And ill be mostly free by 1st dec. So will check it out.
Edit:-U can download the rom and check if its correct

Thats shocking!! Install this. What does it say?
Edit: Supersu doesnt work for many phones, dont rely on that! Use Super user. BusyBox works fine on mine. Just check if you haven't set Automatic response=Deny in Super user->settings->security.

Stock Kitkat Rom..Life is Better Now

Hurrah..
As I promised, Take this goodie from me. Another Stock Kitkat. This is based on F180L firmware.
This is only flashable via Philz Recovery. No other recovery is supported as of now.
Statutory Warning: It is your phone. Do not blame me for anything. I am not responsible for any harm you do to your device.
Most things are fixed. It includes Stock music app, Stock boot animation from LG(I really like this!). Integrated vu talk with the contacts app. Knock Off support, Three finger Slide, OSP and many more things you will just love,
This is just a test version, so some things do not work!
1st when you install the rom, the1st screen greets you with English, suddenly this changes to Korean(it might be other also). Again change to English in the same page. Then it fixes to English.
2nd Root does not work. You have to flash SuperSu
3rd MTP SD card is not working. means when connected to computer, the SD is showing as blank. Media scanner is also failing. Will see this soon.
4th, 5th, 6th you report...
Now the detailed steps:
1. Flash Philz recovery
2. Flash Stock KK Thanks to @Level99 for the hosting.
3. Flash SuperSu
4. Enjoy and report bugs!
Below is the version 2, the deodexed rom with lots of goodies from lg g3.
Deodexed Stock Kitkat
Flash this for SD Card fix Thanks to @knight4frat
Hit thanks if this has helped you :good:
This is just a request, if you like my works, Please donate to upgrade my network.
Reserved for future use

One small suggestion @gourab4u can you put the md5 check-sum of the file, that way i and others can check if the ROM is downloaded correctly before flashing, and thank you again!
Link Temporally Disabled!!!
:crying: When i was downloading it failed and when i went to try to download again, i saw the cause, link temporally down due to high traffic :crying: Oh Well!! Guess I'll have to wait a couple hours to try again.

Did u face any problem with WiFi ? i tried porting the ROM and WiFi wasn't working ... even Logs were not helping in figuring out the things
EDIT : For getting pics , music in gallery & music player from external SD , download app "SD Scanner" From Market ,
Open it & change the path to scan from "storage/emulated/sdcard0" to "storage/sdcard1"
Let the scan complete .. u'll be able to see all the stuff from External SD & also some stuff will be accessible in computer
via MTP Mode ...
