[Q] Wondering what happened!! - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I lately installed MIUI v6 on my z2, its all good, but as you know official MIUI v6(The one i installed) got only 3 languages (English-2 Chinese).
The weird thing is that i have installed application called "MoreLocale 2" that lets you choose different languages, but it gives different result on different phones, as on MIUI it only translates some stuff.
After applying a language i didn't like the result and uninstalled it,
But, when i entered languages menu in settings, i found out that there was loads of languages added. And they translate everything. So what happened!!!

So this app must have modified your system files. If you want to revert it back as it was then you have to copy the proper file from zip back to your system partition.
I can't remember where languages were located (maybe framework) but Google knows it for sure.

[ROM] QND MIUI (Multi-Language, A2SD and XPART) 2.3.30r4 2012/9/22

Attention: Development for this ROM has stopped. I depended on MIUI releases, and since they stopped releasing for the N1 with version 2.3.30/GB, that is the last I can use. I am releasing R4 as I had promised to fix a few last bugs, but it is now very likely the last one. I don't have the time, and I don't have the N1 any more (it is my wife's now).
Hello all,
My idea with this ROM is to keep it lean and fast, with some tunings but no theming, and with minimal additions (the list is below). I hope you like it.
This ROM started as a no-frills, as near to the basic MIUI as it can be, multi-language ROM. I've made it for myself and have been using this ROM and decided to upload it in case anyone else is interested. In the beginning, it was basically only the Chinese deodexed ROM with the XJ multi-language pack applied, and the build.prop edited and tuned for our N1. No theming, no apps apart from those in the MIUI ROM and the multi-language pack.
I've since added a changed bluetooth audio.conf from here, roenano's 4-way reboot menu (original and credits here), a tuned media_profiles.xml for better photo quality, and the Genie widget for news and meteorology. I use all of these, and they have made my life easier, so I hope they will help you also.
Should be usable with only a cache and dalvik-cache wipe if coming from another MIUI ROM. In case of problems, just wipe everything a few times before flashing - and use AmonRa's recovery.
I will update it every week after the XJ multi-language pack is updated.
Differences from base MIUI+ XJ translations:
Juwe RAM Optimization (replacing part of ROD's tunning)
Bluetooth audio.conf fix (from here)
SIP over 3G is enabled ([email protected] fix)
4-way reboot menu included - thanks to roenano at miuiandrod.
From 1.6.24, I replaced 4-way reboot with the integrated pack adding also track skip by volume press by Andy Thomson
media_profiles.xml changed for higher quality photos - I don't know where I got this one from, probably Rodriguez work
Temasek's libsqlite fix
3G Tuning
Additional tuning (TCP-IP, JPG quality, touch responsiveness) from knzo - here.
System Apps:
Genie widget for news and meteorology added
Car Home
Car Home Launcher
User Apps:
Titanium Backup
Terminal Emulator
A2SD GUI
Maxthon Mobile browser
User apps with libs removed for now.
Added check for cache partition size and redirection from CM7 to A2SD (was already in XPART)

2.3.30r4 released.
Used an updated apktool that should avoid the errors found previously on the translations.
Fixed the alarm clock in English, tested and it finally doesn't FC.
Added what Romanian translations there were in XJ (it is quite incomplete).
Added the extended settings mod.
More fixes to the translations
Finally fixed the alarm clock FC (and possibly also the reboot on superuser, needs more tests)
Once again updated Gmail, Play Store and MX Browser
Beats audio is back on the odex version
Small translation related issues fixed
Reverted the A2SD and deodexed XPART versions to "no beats audio". Since adding Beats Audio makes the ROM too large for a "normal" HBOOT, the only version with it is the one that already needed a changed HBOOT - the odexed XPART version.
Some changes on 2.3.23 - in an attempt to fix the "superuser reboot" bug, I stopped using directly XJs apks, and instead now use the ones directly from MIUI and add the translations. You'll notice that the default theme now is the original MIUI one. Unfortunately, my N1 will still reboot if some app needs to access SMS or an incoming call and only has "ask always" in superuser.
Due to the changes in 2.3.23, please do a full wipe and flash. Don't try to upgrade an existing QND MIUI as it will loop. Please use MIUI Backup, or Titanium, or whatever you prefer to backup and restore your apps.
Now with Beats Audio!
Updated the Italian translation from Nexus-lab.
Odexed XPART ROM available, but will need a changed hboot. Look up Blackrose on the N1 development forum, and change your hboot to 220 system,15 cache. If you don't understand this phrase, stay away from this version.
More dalvik "optimizations" removed, as apparently they now break MIUI.
Had a wrong dalvik setting in the tweaks file that finally gave me a huge headache getting xpart working. Fixed.
Speeded up boot a little, as the sqlite optimization is now launched asynchronously.
Finally fixed a long standing bug on XPART, from Rod's time; you can now wipe dalvik-cache in 4Ext or in CWM recoveries without going into a boot loop. In fact, I now can recommend 4Ext, as Amon Ra's recovery hasn't been updated in a long time, and 4Ext is very much feature complete.
Persian translation
vold mod, to allow fast usb transfers again
MX Browser (alongside the default Miren browser)
Removed libsqlite fix, since sqlite was updated by MIUI.
4-way reboot mod. Vol-skip + 4-way reboot again. Vol-skip was missing the full 4-reboot, so this version only has 4-way reboot menu Both mods haven't been updated, and cause boot loops.
Removed user apps with libs - Terminal, Titanium Backup. Unfortunately support for flashing user apps in the ROM with MUIU seems broken for now, at least for apps that include libs.
Full MIUI changelog here.
ATTENTION: root access now needs to be explicitly enabled in the superuser application. Press the menu key then choose settings to enable root access for "new" apps. Apps that already had root permissions (if you're upgrading) will keep them even with this setting disabled, so you can probably keep it disabled most of the time.
Some more tuning, now from knzo - here
XPART
From 1.8.12, there are big changes in the XPART variant! If you had the previous one, up to 1.8.7, please do a backup and a full wipe (5 full wipes to make sure ) before installing the new ROM.
The new XPART is based on Rodriguez XPART, instead of xavierjohn22 version; since Rod based his work in XJ, it is still a derivative, but it has a lot of changes. The most important ones are that the partitions are mounted as loop devices, increasing speed. To add reliability, I've enabled journaling (and for those who tested my scripts between 1.8.5 and 1.8.12 journaling could be enabled or not depending on the previous ROM).
If you don't know XPART is a Data2SD variant that is reputed to be fast and stable.
You can use it with one FAT32 and one ext4 partition, as A2SD, which seems to be the more stable setup, but the recommended setup for speed is one FAT32, one large ext4 (for your data partition), one smaller ext4 (cache), and a swap partition. I'm not that much of a fan of a swap partition, as I am always afraid it will wear out the SD card precociously, but most people report it working well, and I prefer the single ext4 for stability, but YMMV.
There is a great howto by docmjldds in the Rod ROM thread.
Just remember, XPART isn't as widely used as A2SD, and might be less mature. As always, I take no responsibility for any problems.
ATTENTION: XPART will wipe your ext4 partition(s) if it doesn't recognize the format, that is, if it doesn't find a couple of special files that identify it.
ATTENTION: I can't give much support to the XPART versions, as my N1 doesn't like them, starting to heat a lot and ending up by corrupting the SD card. My uSD card died recently, and I got a Sandisk 32GB class 4. It is faster than the Patriot class 10 I had, and XPART seems to be very stable with it.
I'll keep doing the A2SD ROMs, my aim is to make these two very similar, only differing in the specific scripts.

Lockscreen themes:
Configure XJ server in CM updater for English lockscreen themes. Just add the following as the theme server address:
Code:
http://www.htcfanboys.com/MIUIXJ/ota/miuixj_lock.json
SD Card Alignment:
For extra speed, check this guide on how to partition your sdcard if you haven't done it before. For those with windows, you can always boot a live cd to use linux to align your sdcard. The alignment of data structures on your SD card should give you better speed and less "hickups" when writing.
Or save yourself the trouble, and repartition (after doing a backup on your pc) your sd card with 4Ext, it has the full functionality and is very simple to use. Can even keep your fat32 partition undisturbed and create/change the ext and swap partition(s).
Known Problems:
1.10.23 - various users on the Desire report that sharing to facebook deletes the picture from the gallery. This doesn't happen with google+.
Backup doesn't work on 1.8.5. Flash this zip, it is the fix from XJ with a N1 build.prop.
Market FCs (with 1.7.22/6) - happens to some users living in non-English speaking countries but using the English translation. The "fix" is to change to language (apparently any other will do), open the market (shouldn't FC), leave it 5 minutes, then change back to English.
a2sd won't work properly on a clean install (after a full wipe); this is "inherited" from the original MIUI ROM. Two workarounds are possible, either run "a2sd repair" from a terminal or adb shell, or flash DarkTremor's A2SD on top of the ROM.
[*] Theme Manager FCs on 1.6.10. Installed the Updater.apk fix from 1982Strand, so there might be some strings in English.
[*] Some translations are incomplete in 1.6.10, will upload a new version when the new release of the language pack is available.
[*]1.5.20 V1 - The default desktop, also when installing after a full wipe, is missing MIUI backup, clock, superuser, and some other apps. This seems to be due to the integration of the Multi-Language pack. The workaround for this is to install the deodexed ROM, boot, reboot into recovery, and install QND on top of it. Will see if I can fix it for next release. - Fixed, uploaded V2
Thank You
Thanks for making a default MIUI rom without frills with multilanguage.
It is running great on my nexus one.
I'm a native dutch speaker and love the fact this rom has my language.
I tried miui-au and rodriquezstyle, but plain miui with dutch language, has
my preference.
What do you mean with the build.prop modification? I'm using the stock deodexed ROM and the german package (I love stock experience, the way the MIUI devs thought about it).

The multi-language pack is for the desire, so the build-prop is made for that model instead of our N1. I basically just changed back the relevant parts and added some bluetooth stuff I was already adding to mine as it helped with the car stereo (I don't remember from which ROM I took it, will have to check to give credit to the author of the BT fixes).

I don't think you need to edit build.prop for N1, if you're gonna simply overwrite files under /system/.
Thanks~
Does it support the OTA every Fri PM Asia time? I was using the language pack from miuiandroid.com, but that one doesn't support the OTA update from miui.com.... thus I have to wait a bit longer to get the updated Chinese ROM first, followed by the language pack....
I was checking with miui.com and see if I can help to "translate" the ROM into English and put into their builds.... I really want to get a full English interface with all the miui goodies...

If you want OTA from miui.com, you have to keep stock Chinese MIUI. No deodex, no translations.
Thanks~ That's my understanding too.... just want to see if we are lucky enough to have that via some great developers here.

Exactly, no OTA updates. But dRaCID01, who relased the MIUI-AU ROM for the N1, is planning to do OTA updates for his upcoming ROM, based on MIUI-DE, with multi-language also. His ROMS are usually very stable, so you might want to give it a try.
Thanks, i also need no frills rom, inside got Vietnamese?
What frills are you talking about - stock deodexed chinese has no frills either :???

I mean I didn't theme or add anything appart from the XJ multi-language pack. In the future I might add some apps I like to use by default, but that is it. I can't do theming or graphical design to save my life, so I'll abstain from even trying it; also this is basically the ROM I use, I am only sharing it in case anyone else is also interested.

I really don't know, but I don't think so. If you point me to the Vietnamese translation I might try adding it in the future, but no promises, I can't even check if it is properly done.
[ROM] QND MIUI (Multi-Language, A2SD, no frills) 1.5.20
Updated to 1.5.20 and XJ multi-language 2011-05-21 Update 1, the link is in the first post.
I just flashed this ROM and can't seem to get a2sd working on it. I downloaded the a2sdgui and it just FC every time, so I downloaded terminal and tried to run:
su
a2sd cachesd
And that fails as well, am I doing something wrong?
@Jason: I haven't had problems with a2sd on this, so I need some more information to try to find what happens with your ROM:
Did you have A2SD working before?
Which ROM did you have before?
Which recovery do you have (avoid clowckwork's 3.x, use 2.x or AmonRa's with MIUI ROMS)?
Did you try doing a full wipe and then flashing?
What is the size of your ext3 partition?
Did you try running "a2sd check"?
With this or deodexed MUIU I've only had problems with A2SD when my ext3 partition was corrupted (due to some hang or crash). I fixed it the hard way, rebboted into recovery (amonRa) connected using "adb shell", and ran "e2fsck /dev/block/mmcblk0p2", which found and fixed several errors in the ext partition. It probably would have been easier to just take out the card and do the file system test on a linux pc, or just reformat the partition and restore.
Well I was able to fix it, I just downloaded and flashed dark tremors beta 4. Now everything seems to be fine with that, I only see 1 major problem with this rom. Auto rotation in the messaging app is so super slow! It takes 3 or 4 seconds to rotate to landscape mode but it's just in the messaging app. Weird...
Other than that thanks for the great rom!
Sent from my QND-MIUI-MULTI-A2SD-1.5.20 using XDA App
That makes sense, if you were previously using DT's beta 4; it probably will need the same version if you don't do a full wipe, and the MIUI included A2SD is based on a older DT's A2SD.
PS: seems like my ROM is useful after all, counting by the downloads... I was afraid I might be the only one interested.

[DISCONTINUED][ROM][INTL][FORK]Traveller DSC ROM 2.4.6

System: Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) - Discontinued May 2, 2014
About:
This is a fork of the DSC ROM, which is based on the Olleh KT 407 ROM. Its genesis came about as a result of a request by lordofazeroth (here) asking to delete all unnecessary apps from /system/app in the next release. My answer was matter of fact: to do it himself rather than asking _n0p_ to do it. This was because I had already created a private version of DSC for my needs and felt that if people really wanted apps out they should take them out themselves.
However, thinking back on it, lordofazeroth's request wasn't wholly out of line. While getting rid of some apps, e.g. HTML Viewer, made no sense, one thing that did make sense was removing the Google apps from /system/app. This was in keeping with Google's direction regarding the apps. Starting around the time Gingerbread was released, Google began to remove most of the Google apps from new versions of Android and making them available for download via the Play Store. Looking in an ICS Google apps package for AOSP ROMs, the only Google apps remaining in the package that could also be downloaded from the Play Store are Google Talk (now known as Hangouts) Google Search, and Voice Search. I fully expect that future Google Apps packages for AOSP ROMs would only contain the Play Store, Google Services Framework, the minor apps that aren't on the Play Store (Google Gallery, News & Weather), and support files.
While getting rid of the apps from /system/app made sense, a lot of people still associate a complete Android experience with having the apps and didn't want to lose them. Fortunately, the DSC ROM has a solution in the form of a firstboot.zip whose contents are extracted and installed while the system boots the first time. It was a simple matter to move the Google apps currently in /system/app to the firstboot.zip and have them installed when the ROM is installed. This makes the end user expecting the Google apps preinstalled happy because the apps are present. And if an end user doesn't wish a particular app to be installed, e.g. Maps, they can completely uninstall it and not be left with the original version in the ROM.
So, based on this idea, I put together my own version of the DSC ROM with this shift in design and am releasing it to the public. Since the ROM is essentially DSC with a few minor changes, it should function as well as DSC does. It's hoped that if _n0p_ releases a new version of DSC that this design change can be folded back into DSC.
Differences between DSC and the Traveller DSC fork:
DSC 2.3's updates are included in the ROM, thus no need to apply patches after installing the ROM.
The DSC 2.3 kernel was replaced with the swap-enabled version of the same kernel (as of version 2.3.4).
SuperSU replaces SimpleSU. SimpleSU's binary isn't recognized as valid by certain apps, e.g. Busybox Free.
The Traveller ICS Theme and the Stargate boot animation are now the default. wway's Gingertrue theme and Ace32's boot animation are available as a flashable theme zip.
Zeam has been replaced with HoloLauncher.
The CM7 File Manager app has been added to /system/app.
Gmail, Hangouts, Maps, Quick Search, Voice Search, and YouTube are all in dsc_firstboot.zip instead of being embedded in the /system directory.
All Google apps, including the Play Store, were updated to their latest available versions.
Google Play Services and Google Street View are new to the ROM. If after uninstalling Google Play Services the app reappears in your app drawer, then Google has pushed the app back to the device. Please do not complain on the forums about this, as it is expected behavior and not a fault of the ROM or device.
Antutu CPU Master Free, WiFi Reassociate, Superdim, System Panel, and ClockSync were all removed from the ROM. In using DSC I have never encountered a problem that required any of these apps, and I replaced Antutu with the XDA version of SetCPU. All should be available through the Play Store if desired or needed, except for the XDA version of SetCPU.
Ghost Commander was removed because the CM7 File Manager app was included in /system/app. Ghost Commander should still be available through the Play Store.
The Streak FM Radio app was replaced by the March 11th version of Spirit FM Free. The limitations of the Streak FM Radio app are well known (no volume control). The Spirit FM Free app is apparently limited to either Blended Audio or Mono sound - it's not clear which - but at least the volume can be controlled. The March 11th version of Spirit FM Free is also the last version that supports the Dell Streak.
ZRAM Status was added to monitor ZRAM usage in the ROM (as of version 2.3.5).
Bugs:
Google Maps may cause excessive battery drain. Freeze Maps or uninstall it if this issue is encountered.
Arabic and Hebrew text in Aroma may appear backwards due to lack of right to left support.
Touchscreen support in Aroma is erratic. Scrolling using the touchscreen does not function, and it may require a few taps to get selections to properly register. As an alternative, the volume controls and the camera button can be used to navigate and select items. This is likely a hardware issue and not fixable in Aroma.
Tips:
Disable notifications in SuperSU for a clean look and to speed up the boot process.
SuperSU will receive updates from the Play Store. To save storage space convert the update to a system app.
Undervolting the CPU using the DSC CPU Voltage Configuration app is highly recommended to maximize battery life.
HoloLauncher has the ability to hide apps in the app drawer. If you know you're never going to use a particular system app, e.g. the email client, hide it instead of deleting it from the ROM.
Customize dsc_firstboot.zip to meet your needs. For example, if you use Google Earth, rename the APK file to com.google.earth.apk and add it to dsc_firstboot.zip.
Google Car Home was left in /system/app because if uninstalled it cannot be downloaded from the Play Store.
The original release of the Hangouts 2.0 app (from Android 4.4) had a bug which allowed it to work on Gingerbread. If wishing to use Hangouts in place of the stock Messaging app, set the app to not be automatically updated in the Play Store or you will lose SMS capability when the app updates.
Changelog:
2.4.6:
UPDATE: Hunderteins has released another SSL Ciphers update, this time around to boost speed and security of HTTPS connections by implementing new encryption and authentication algorithms.
UPDATED APPS: Google Play Services, Hangouts and YouTube.
Older Revisions:
2.4.5:
UPDATE: OpenSSL firmware updated to fix the Heartbleed bug.
UPDATED APPS: Google Play, Google Play Services, Hangouts, Maps, SuperSU, and YouTube.
2.4.4
UPDATE: HoloLauncher updated to 2.11. Now has a color theming option similar to what is available in KitKat.
BUG FIX: Hebrew language in Aroma now displays.
BUG FIX: Grammar fixes for some screen text in Aroma.
Because 2.4.4 is being released so soon after 2.4.3, I'm leaving 2.4.3's updates visible as well as providing a patch for current users to install rather than downloading the entire ROM and installing it again.
2.4.4 Update.zip - 819.16 KB
2.4.3
NEW: PDroid for Arabic users now available.
UPDATES: SuperSU, Flash Player, YouTube, Hangouts, Google Play Services, and AFWall+. The release of Flash Player included here is the final release from Adobe. There will be no further bug fixes or updates.
UPDATE: Aroma Installer updated to 2.70RC2. This update restores touch support to the installer, which was missing in 2.51 as well as allowing the user to quit the installer at any point prior to installing Traveller DSC or its features.
BUG FIX: Fixed the issue with Arabic support not properly installing. For Arabic support to work the base ROM (and any added features) must be installed prior to installing Arabic support. This means you will have to run Aroma twice to enable Arabic support. The first time will be to install the ROM. After installing the ROM and letting everything in dsc_firstboot.zip install, reboot into the recovery and run Aroma the second time. Select the Arabic menu choice and install those options on top of Traveller DSC.
After selecting Arabic in the Language & Keyboard options in Settings, the very first time the power button is used to shut down the Streak the device will hot reboot and attempt to cycle through the boot animation. It will fail and then hot reboot a second time. This second time the device should boot to the launcher.
2.4.2
UPDATE: Play Store updated to 4.5.10.
UPDATE: Clock font changed to the version used in Android 4.4, resolving an issue with a portion of the clock being cut off when the pattern lock is used.
UPDATE: Common fonts used in both Android 2.3.3 and 4.4 were updated to the Android 4.4 versions.
2.4.1
BUG FIX: Replaced the tabbed browser with the original stock browser to resolve a force close issue with Voice Search. Clearly the tabbed browser wasn't quite ready for prime time.
2.4.0
NEW: Installation is done via the Aroma Installer. There is no touch support for the Streak, so the volume controls and the power button must be used to navigate. As a result of this change, all the various modifications available have been rolled into the zip file, meaning there will be no separate downloads needed for this version of Traveller DSC. The increase in size of the zip file also means that MediaFire cannot be used. Dev-Host will be used instead.
NEW: A new version of the zRAM app was compiled from its sources, with a black background and with memory readouts expressed in MB rather than bytes. It is now also a system app.
NEW: The stock browser is now a version of Lightning Browser compiled from source, with a custom dark theme to fit the rest of the ROM.
UPDATED APPS: AFWall+, Google Play Services, HoloLauncher, SuperSU, and YouTube.
UPDATE: Roboto Condensed is now the default font, for that Android 4.4 look.
UPDATE: Arabic patch users can now fully benefit from the SSL Cipher improvements due to a fix in framework.jar.
BUG FIX: In QuickPanel, the Auto-brightness indicator can now be clearly distinguished from the maximum brightness indicator.
BUG FIX: The "System Updates" option in Settings > About phone now links to this thread instead of the DSC thread.
BUG FIX: The "Build Version" option finally had a version bump, to 2.4.
NOTE: Gingertrue users will not have the new browser installed. While the browser is available for download here, it may not install. Gingertrue users wishing to use the tabbed browser will need to convert it to a system app using an app like Apps2ROM. The other option would be to install a copy of Lightning Browser.
NOTE: The browser may force close after exiting. The cause is unknown at this time, but may also affect Lightning Browser, since the former was compiled from the source of the latter.
2.3.10
SuperSU reverted to 1.65. See explanation here.
Fixed bugs caused by developer error when adding ciphers patch.
Default wallpaper was changed.
Changelog for versions prior to 2.3.10 was removed.

How to add your files to the Traveller DSC ROM
While the Traveller DSC ROM does change several things in the system, notably replacing SimpleSU and Zeam with SuperSU and HoloLauncher, its biggest "selling point" if you will is the ability to customize the app package that is installed with the base ROM. The DSC ROM includes a zip file located in /system/etc named "dsc_firstboot.zip". After DSC is installed and the system rebooted, during the Google account setup and for a short period of time afterwards a script is run that installs all the apps found in dsc_firstboot.zip.
The base DSC ROM included in its dsc_firstboot.zip the following apps: Adobe Flash, AnTuTu CPU Master Free, WiFi Reassociate, DSP Manager, Ghost Commander, Maps, YouTube, Droidwall, Dell Swype, DSC Wallpapers, Superdim, SystemPanel, ClockSync, and Streak FM Radio. Many of the Google apps remained in the ROM. For Traveller DSC, as already mentioned in the first post in the thread, all the Google apps except for the Play Store and Car Home were pulled from the ROM and stored instead in dsc_firstboot.zip. This is because all of these apps had new versions in the Play Store and thus there seemed to be no reason to keep old versions in /system/app. At the same time I changed up the apps package.
Traveller DSC includes in dsc_firstboot.zip the following apps: Adobe Flash, DSP Manager, Maps, GMail, Google Play Services, Quick Search, Street View, Voice Search, YouTube, Droidwall, Spirit FM Free, Dell Swype, zRAM Status, and DSC Wallpapers.
Traveller DSC encourages customization. I want you to make this ROM your own. If you want to delete the Google apps, go ahead. If you want to do what I did and add Google Music, you can do that too. This brief tutorial explains how. But keep in mind the following: dsc_firstboot.zip cannot be larger than the remaining space in the /system partition. If the file is too large the Streak may freeze at the Dell logo or end up in a boot loop. If this happens, remove apps until the file is smaller than the remaining space in the /system partition, then install the ROM again.
Tools required - PC: WinZip, WinRAR (preferred) or 7-Zip. Do not use the built-in Windows zip utility as it corrupts the zip file.
Tools Required - Streak: An app backup utility such as App Backup & Restore.
Optional - PC users with Chrome: APK Downloader extension.
Extract dsc_firstboot.zip from the Traveller DSC ROM.
On the Streak back up the installed app you want to add using an app backup utility. Ideally, when backing up the app you do not want its user-friendly name, but the name Android associates with the app, e.g. com.google.android.gm.apk instead of GMail.apk. There is a means to get the Android name of the app, using the Play Store on the PC.
Connect the Streak to the PC and download the backed-up app to a directory of your choosing.
Rename the app if necessary. See below.
Open up dsc_firstboot.zip with WinZip, WinRAR, or 7-Zip. Simply drag and drop the new app into the dsc_firstboot.zip window. The file will be compressed and added to the rest.
To add the new dsc_firstboot.zip to the ROM, open up the ROM's zip file, navigate to /system/etc, then simply drag and drop the new zip file into the directory. The ROM's zip file will update itself, overwriting the old zip file with the new one.
Copy the new ROM file to the Streak and install the ROM.
If the app on the Streak carries a friendly name, open up a browser window on the PC and head to the Play Store. Search for the app in the Play Store and look at the URL. The Android name of the app is found within the URL. For example, if wanting to embed Kongregate Arcade into dsc_firstboot.zip you would find it in the Play Store. The URL would be play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kongregate.android.kongarcade. The Android name is found after /details?id= in the URL, thus the Android name for Kongregate Arcade would be com.kongregate.android.kongarcade. Rename the apk file from Kongregate Archade.apk to com.kongregate.android.kongarcade.apk and then follow steps 5-7 above.
If using Chrome, use the APK Downloader extension and download a copy of the app directly from the Play Store to eliminate the need to use a backed-up version of the app on the Streak. Google recently changed things and now all files downloaded from the Play Store using APK Downloader have a filename consisting of a random number, so it's necessary to give the downloaded file the correct name. When the Windows prompt appears asking for a location to save the file in, rename the downloaded file to the name referenced in the URL, e.g. com.kongregate.android.kongarcade.apk. From there, follow steps 1, 5, 6, and 7.
NOTE: This tutorial may be revised from time to time in order to clarify details or simply to make things easier to understand.
hello, thanks for the rom. i came from cm7 based rom. if i want to try this rom, can i just flash the zip just like usually ? I read instruction link, confused about flash_me, just seems lots of step to flash a DSC rom. My baseband already 406.
Thanks.

The provided baseband files improve the voice quality but are not essential to getting the ROM to work. As this is merely a tweaked version of DSC I put out as a proof of concept, everything you know about DSC still applies.
I'm not sure what's the difference between the pdroid version and basic.....I don't know which one to try

PDroid is a privacy add-on.
Had a data wipe after I did a reboot. Unfortunate as it seemed nice as a "update" for DSC 2.3.
Explain please? I've never had a data loss issue in the entire time I've been running this ROM (several months before I released it).

Don't take it as a slight on your ROM, personally I think it's more of an issue with my device. I did fresh install over DSC 2.3 after that I had a data wipe after a random restart. With this ROM I'd rebooted after I changed default orientation to portrait in DSC config resulting in complete wiping, i.e. upon restart I was welcomed with the Welcome to Dell Streak touch here to continue screen.
I wasn't taking your comments in a negative fashion. Sorry if I gave that impression.
I don't change the default orientation so I've not noticed that. One thing I did notice is that ever since I changed the baseband in my Streak to 366 WiFi has never failed to initialize after waking up the Streak. The "beta" versions of this ROM I ran using the 406 baseband and often had to engage and disengage airplane mode to wake up the WiFi. It still doesn't stop me from having an occasional spontaneous reboot, but it's an improvement. So, I recommend using the 366 baseband, which can be installed using the DSC "Flash Me Before Installing" pack.
Thanks for sharing... I am downloading the files and will read thru all the instruction before proceeding...
I have place back the picture to show the problem.
For some reason XDA is adding <br /> to the end of the links here, which is why people were getting the request for a decryption key. I've edited my post to fix the links.
ROM updated to correct the chef's not realizing that the version of Spirit FM he added did not support the Streak any longer.
Currently testing one of _n0p_'s older versions of the kernel to see if replacing the kernel fixes the spontaneous reboot issues I and a couple other people have been getting at random times. If this does fix things, I'll provide an updated ROM. If anyone wants to try this out, you can download the u28 (DSC 2.0 release) boot.img from _n0p_'s DSC thread here.
Some updated information available here.
Any update on your test results @strephon

Check the DSC thread. I reported my results there.
Just for anyone waiting for an update.. @Strephon Alkhalikoi has updated an 'all in one' fixed version 2.3.3 in the OP.
Thanks. :highfive:
I'm having problems downloading from the MEGA links on the first page... does anyone have any mirrors set up?
I had no trouble. Possibly an Internet issue?
OK, I successfully grabbed the rom and the "Gingertrue Theme and Phoenix Boot Animation"
...however when attempting to install the theme zip I got a failure. (Status 6)

[Q] 4.4.2 & Missing Languages

Hello all. I recently Odin-ed back to stock 4.3 to take the 4.4 update via Kies. I rooted with TowelRoot no problem but when I went to enable languages (using various apps from Play Store that previously worked fine), nothing happened. Later I found out when I set the locale to ru_RU, in the Android Settings menu the *current* language says Russian (in Russian) however only 2 or 3 languages are actually listed as available for selection. System apps and the UI are NOT in Russian, however 3rd party apps supporting this language are.
Questions:
1. Are the languages included in the ROM and are just not enabled? (I doubt it)
2. If the languages aren't in the ROM, is there a way to add them? (I also doubt it)
3. If there's no way to add languages, can I pick an official ROM that I know will have certain languages and if so, where could I find them?
I have an SCH-i535 running NE1.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Google Playstore change language inside APP

Hi, i have a OnePlus 6T wich is set to Portuguese Language,
Twrp is installed and phone is rooted and running at the moment official OOS 10.3.4.
The issue i'm facing is, that google decided to translate the playstore to my native language, i don't like the translations, Often misleading but i can live with that, what i dont like is the translation of app name and even after install causing confusion. and even harder to share or when someone seeks help for a app it has the wrong name. or it is not the official name it was released.this causes no Standard or pattern... in the end taking "Windows" software as example, in Portuguese it is still "Windows", not "Janelas"
Is there a way to make the Playstore use the English language, but also maintain my OS Language Portuguese as this is a eyesore and tingling my OCD?
:silly::silly::silly:
@dreameater
Because your device is rooted, install Xposed Framework in order to install and run Xposed module named XPosedAppLocale. It allows you to set locales on a per-app basis, which means you can use a different language in each of your Android apps, and finally restore the nuances that always get lost in translation.
I see your point and thanks for your reply , but I already tried that and it didn't work
EdXposed + app locale 1.4 no luck
EdXposed + app locale 2 no luck
EdXposed + app settings no luck...
@dreameater
It annoys me in retrospect that I wasted my time with you.

Question Is there any way to add a language in Nebo?

The note app "Nebo" offers the possibility to convert handwritten notes directly into text. For this you have to download the languages for recognition if you don't want to use English but one of the many other languages. However, not all languages can be downloaded completely, the download stops at around 90% for each language. What's also strange is that you can't even download Chinese as a recognition language. (Officially, English and Chinese can be selected as the system language.) The download works fine on other Android devices, so I think it has to do with the CN Rom.
I'd like to test it but Nebo is 12 USD in the playstore.
Are you using playstore version or a sideloaded apk?

I had a conversation with the nebo-support about this topic. It´s not possible to download any language as the chinese MIUI doesn´t allow the connection to foreign servers. I solved the problem with both rooted cell and tablet. I installed nebo on both devices and downloaded my home countries language on my cell which has a global Rom. Then I used Titanium Backup (you can also use Migrate which is free) to restore the nebo data on my tablet with the ones from my cell. This worked perfect. I think it´s the only way to use nebo on Pad 5 Pro atm, if you need different languages.

I tried both.
I also thought about that backup way, but i don't want to root my device. Is there another way without root? Turning of MIUI optimations didn't work in my case.

I'm having the same problem. I disabled MIUI optimization but no effect. I tried to bring the app from my cell phone (which can download Portuguese) using wondershare mobile transfer, but only the APK file came and "due to system restrictions" I have to install it manually. I'm thinking just writing in english by now, what is dificult, but better this than not enjoy the feature, btw a great feature.
Try this.
