smartphone not recognizing headphone jack - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

PROBLEM:
Essentially my phone has stopped recognising when headphones have been plugged in, but the headphone port isn't broken since it plays audio through both the speakers and the headphones at the same time. I recognize that this might be a hardware problem, so I'm just looking for a temporary fix. Ideally a small app that allows me to toggle where the sound is played through.
SPECS:
Rooted android 4.4
Cubot s308
ALREADY TRIED:
Checked headphone port for dust/debris using a light, wiggled inside with a cotton bud and so on
Tried a few apps, notably 'sound about' which doesn't actually change anything
Other headsets - all I have tried have the same issue, so its not a headset issue
All other posts I can find are where the headphone out is permanently on, or where the port just doesn't work, so any help would be apreciated.

Streak - in headphone/headset mode, even when nothing in headphone jack?

Afternoon folks.
Suddenly my Streak won't come out of headset mode, even when I disconnect everything from the the headphone jack. The headset icon stays on consistently and no sounds comes out of the phone speaker even with no headset connected. Rebooted, still occurring on restart. Going into speaker mode during a call allows me to hear the caller. Also media playback, no sound unless headphones plugged in.
I wiggled a metal pin around in the headphone jack and this made the headset icon in the notification bar flicker briefly.
Anyway to force the phone into a different normal mode? (assuming likely fault some pin in headphone jack is faulty/bent in? and forcing phone into erroneously detecting headphone presence).
Running latest DSC rom and phone is rooted.
Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

nothing you can do except replace the headphone jack ...

[Q] Surround sound problem?

I have a CT802 Idea USA tablet running Android 4.0.3. It is rooted.
Whenever I try to play a video (using any media player program including but not limited to the built-in one), the audio is weird--the volume is relatively low *and* the voices are almost nonexistent--what I get is almost all music. This is only a problem when I have something connected to the headphone jack--it does not happen with the built-in speaker.
If I plug the jack partly in, it is possible to get it into a position where it plays the sound properly.
My theory is that it's somehow falsely detecting surround sound output (but is not detecting it when I have the jack partly in), and when it does so, I'm only getting the left and right channels. I would like to know:
1) Is there any way I can prove this?
2) Is there some setting buried in some file that I can use to disable surround sound completely?
It turned out that the problem was caused by having earbuds with a built-in microphone. Both of the ones I tried had a microphone. When I bought another pair without a microphone, sound was okay.
It's still a problem, however. How do I keep it from doing this? There are no system settings whatsoever related to microphones, and I have no idea how to disable the microphone or otherwise tell it to treat the earbuds as a normal set of earbuds.

[Q] No audio output in my SGSIII

Hi guys,
I've got this problem that my SGSIII does not have any audio output from jack. At first it seemed like the jack port is broken so I replaced it. Nothing changed, stil not working. When the jack is plugged it seems that it doesnt even detect headphones ( the headphones icon does not show on status bar). However the volume control and play/pause button provided on headphones are working perfectly. Tried with original samsung headphones and couple more, any of them were working. The speaker does work. I'm using Archidroid ROM and Boeffla kernel. Any ideas?

How to "force" Headphone mode on

Hello,
this is maybe rather unusual as the majority of threads I found ask how to force DISABLE the headset mode, as usually the mechanics inside the headphone jack get stuck, which means the internal speakers doesnt work anymore.
I have a different problem - I have a toy "rc helicopter" lying around and would like to try to control it with this app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uprtek.rd2.icontroller.goldlight&hl=de
unfortunately on my UMI Zero the headset control sort of doesnt work.
The app itself works fine, if I plug a regular headset in, I can switch the controls on. But when I plug in the "IR transmit module" into the headset jack it says "Plugin iController!!" I see that the controller is not recognized as a headset which is should. So is there any way to force-enable the headsetmode? I am sure it would work just fine and its only some sort of mechanical issue with the audio jack.
The problem is, the app refuses to start the controls until headphone mode is enabled. Even if the controller is plugged in.

Different reasons, but would love to see a solution to this as well. Must actually enable headset mode, not just force audio or something with soundabout.

Problem answering calls with headphone plugged in

Hello,
I've had Mate 2 for about 6 months. I've had 5 other android phones and feel pretty comfortable with rooting, flashing roms, recoveries and ADB.
When I first purchased the Mate 2 I tried the stock 5.1 EMUI on the Mate2, but I could stand the setup after using CM 12 and 13 on past devices. We use Mightytext for text messaging in our office and for some reason it did not like the stock EMUI messaging app and would not work with a 3rd party app like Textra.
When I tried CM 12 and 13, everything seems to work, particularly Mightytext, except if I'm listening to music or an audiobook with headphones (with and without an integrated Mic.) When someone calls with the headphones in and I remove them and then answer the call, I can't hear the other person and they cannot hear me, but the call definitely connects. If I'm in the car and connected via bluetooth and listening to music, it is not a problem.
Another issue for me is the external speaker does not work with an alarm if the head phones are plugged in. I use Alarm Clock Xtreme which has a setting to play to the speaker even if head phones are plugged in, but that does not work on the Mate 2 (with stock or custom roms.)
While normally not insurmountable, both these issues are enough to really frustrate me. Any ideas? I flashed back to EMUI 5.1 and the headphones and mic work fine so I don't think it is a hardware issue.
Thanks for any help!
Dr. Bones
While I don't have any answers or ideas, I think I have the same problem as you on the latest CM13.0 snapshot. No audio on calls when headphone jack (I have a small headphone jack button) plugged in. In CM12.1 it was working fine for me though and was possible to use an app called HF Button Widget to change the audio routing to the phone's speaker (while keeping button plugged into headphone jack). Maybe the phone acts like it is hitting mute or silences the audio when the jack is plugged or unplugged? I've had to remove my button and keep my headphone jack empty as a workaround until this is solved or a newer version solves it. Also another workaround might be bluetooth headphones I haven't tried that yet.
