Sony Support Confirms Lollipop Released to Z3V - Xperia Z3v General

Just spoke to Sony Xperia Support.
http://support.sonymobile.com/us/xperiaz3v/contactUs/
Agent: Hi, thanks for choosing Sony Xperia™ Chat Support. My name is XXXXX your Xperia™ Support Representative for US and Canada.
Agent: Thank you. What is the model of your device and your service provider?
Zack: Xperia Z3V, Verizon
Agent: Thank you.
Agent: I understand that you want to know when your device will receive Lollipop update, is this correct?
Zack: Correct.
Zack: Verizon is telling it's customers that Sony has not yet released it to them.
Agent: I will be glad to assist you. But in this case, regarding this specific device we are not the one that handles the software related issue from this phone, please contact Verizon and they will provide this information for you.
Agent: I really apologize but it was released for all devices.
Zack: They are telling us we should contact you.
Agent: They are the ones that need to release this for you.
Zack: I personally speak to Verizon Customer Support every week, and they say the same thing.
Agent: We only handle all hardware related issues from this specific device.
Zack: They say Sony has not yet released it, and we should contact Sony Customer Support.
Zack: Can you confirm you have released the update to Verizon, and they have chosen not to release it to customers?
Agent: I understand, and as I stated we only handle hardware related issues from this phone, since Verizon wanted to handle all software related issues form this device, please contact them once again and let them know what we are stating regarding this.
Agent: I really apologize for all the issues this may cause.
Zack: Thank you.
Zack: Have a great day.

There you have it.
Next time you speak to Verizon Customer Support, tell them what Sony is saying regarding this.

I actually was replied to on Twitter by @xperiablog after I asked about the LP update, they said the same thing. That they released the update to VZW a while ago and so VZW is to blame for the delay...another blog I read said that the update "for sure" is coming in October...but so is the Z4v... Who the hell knows...
Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk

This is really old news and it's been circling around the forums. Verizon is entirely too blame for the lack of updates and no new release information for the Z4v. If anything, I'd like to request Sony to put their new phones with Verizon bands so we could just buy directly from them to get direct support too.

And that's why HTC and Sony Ericsson have been unlocking the bootloaders of their phones right?
You obviously don't have a clue so please stop replying nonsense!
Why don't you just show some support and sign the damn petition so that we can at least have a chance of finally being heard...

The answer to your post.
HTC is going to unlock bootloaders for their future devices. And that could lead to loosing partnership with many carriers. As for existing phones - here is what I've asked to motorola support:
Customer By Web Form (Artur Korobeynyk) 26/01/2012 04.19 PM
Hi! I've just purchased your Motorola Photon 4G device of a Sprint Carrier here in Ukraine. It is a used phone, but in my country I have no other option. Best of your devices (like Photon, some Droids) are not available officially here as those are bound to some US carriers. And I wanted Photon so much. I read somewhere that Motorola is capable of unlocking devices for use with any sim card with some specific activation code. If that is true, than how can I get this kind of service (of course I understand that it should not be free of charge)

Dear Mr. Korobeynyk,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
In response to your query, please note that Motorola is not unlocking devices, this network provider who locked the phone to their SIM cards should do this. You can contact them for unlocking code or you can try to contact repair center in Ukraine ( +380442963572 )
Kind regards,

HTC unclocked and had repercussions, one being Sprint never approved it.
The petition will get no where when aimed at OM's, if you really understood it you would focus on vendors. They set the requirements, one being they do not want rouge devices on their networks.
Halfdrivens "understanding" 1 Beach_Head 0
If that were true then why are they launching the Galaxy Nexus which has an unlockable/relockable bootloader?
I suggest you brush up on the subject a little more seeing as your "understanding" of it is a mis-understanding of it!
FYI, an unlocked bootloader won't do **** to the carrier or its network otherwise, Google wouldn't be doing it via their Nexus devices. And CM development would've stopped at version 1 instead of being at version 9 right now...

Dude, you spent more effort being a tool than just signing the petition (or not).
It most likely isn't Motorola but the carriers. In an article about the new Droid Razr Developer Edition which can be pre-ordered now, Moto states that "consumer version of the Droid Razr is heavily protected against third-party ROMs, which Motorola says is necessary in order to "continue meeting our carrier and regulatory obligations,".
If you aren't aware this DE version comes unlocked and supplied with no warranty. It is supposed to be coming to a carrier in the US in the future.
What this tells me is the manufacturers have no problem unlocking devices and the carrier determines whether it can be unlocked.
Just some food for thought.

Hey genius, if you had noticed, I thanked CCallahan for his comment. He and Beach_Head are at least adding differing opinions based on some facts. You (nor I for that matter) are not. Believe it or not, I tend to agree with you and CCallahan. However, Beach_Head has some valid points. Getting back to the OP, either sign the petition, or if not, provide some value in your response/rebuttal. That's all I have to say about that.

Maybe not but it for sure doesn't hurt anything to do it and if peeps want to spend some of their time working on it then why not.
I support anyone trying to make a change even if it doesn't result in much. At least it is showing some positive community movement.
Haha. Motorola are full of it. Why are Samsung selling so many phones on most networks? Motorola are milking the consumer so they don't have to go through the amount of returns Samsung have.
Is it morally wrong to make use of the unlocked bootloaders, brick your phone and claim warranty? Maybe but very low percentage do and this could be user repairable if they made their chips load USB loader in hardware as a complete backup.
Maybe also could have a hardware bootloader which loads boot information from nand like PC's. That would make them virtually unbrickable without hardware damage. Win win.
Moto just wanna lay excuses for more money.

Always take what Moto says with a grain of salt...
I was there when the first petition was made late 2010: Motorola Bootloader Groubal
We generated 11,303 signatures and Moto said they'd provide an unlock solution before the end of 2011.
It's 2012 now and nothing. That Razr DE phone is a slap in the face for everyone that relied on their promise for an unlock solution for their devices. Not to mention to the first adopters who bought the Razr when it launched and our now faced with the Maxx and that DE phone.
HTC and Sony Ericsson were taking the same heat and yet as early as May 2011, they had already launched their unlock solution. A solution that affected new and current devices at the time. So if it were really a carrier decision, wouldn't the carriers have had a field day when those solutions were announced?
And this year, Verizon, T-Mo, and AT&T still have HTC and Sony Ericsson phones in their line up. If a device with an unlocked bootloader would cause issues on their network, then why would they continue using devices from those manufacturers?

Nokia Australia says tethering is NEVER coming

I have been waiting on the Lumia 800 luanch in Australia for some time now and I have been emailing Nokia in regards to tethering on the handset as I need it for use with my laptop for work. Nokia rep have been saying its coing in a future update but I rang Nokia nd they said that the comments are misinformed and that tethering is never coming. I then email Nokia australia and was told the same thing that it is never coming and so I emailed back giving links of the net which say it is and this is the responce I got...

Hi Nathan,
Thank you for your response.
We still affirm on our previous statement that Wi-Fi tethering is not obtainable in Nokia Lumia 800. Please be advised that the Wi-Fi tethering is a hardware dependent application which makes the Nokia Lumia 800 unequipped for it.
Please feel free to write back to us if you need further assistance with this case. You may also contact one of our friendly Technical Support Executives at 1-300 366 733 from 8am to 8pm, AEST, seven days a week. WHAT THE HELL? Its now a hardware issue and isnt ever coming? I will be cancelling my pre-order as it is definately a serious disfunction and the yes it is, no it isnt stance from Nokia is a joke. I NEED it for work and so the Lumia 800 is now not appropiate for me.
Thoughts?
What the hell? AFAIK before they fixed the Network configuration utility, it was possible to do the interop unlock and enable the tethering manually in registry (am I right?). Now they say it's not possible at all? Don't get me started!

I really doubt that. I guess the Lumia 800 needs to have some drivers in order to enable tethering. There is currently no way to add tethering. I called the Nokia hotline as well and they said that there will be no tethering. However the salesman that sold me the device promised me tethering in a future update. I guess it was false advertising :-/
Hey, but wait! HTC Titan Comes with integrated wifi tethering and it have the same Qualcomm MSM8255T as Lumia.
Doesn't it makes it possible to bring this function to the Lumia?
Unless tethering is connected with different module...

First of all we would need to possibility to either have full access to the phone to include the drivers or the ability to install custom ROMs. The second problem I can think of is that those are HTC drivers that are connected to other parts of HTC related things. I place more hope in the Lumia 900, that offers tethering. Maybe we'll hear something at MWC in a few days.
But if it depends on MSM8255T, then Nokia shouldn't have any problem updating, or even writing driver for this function.
Or may be Nokia does not want to admit the real reason why they do not want to activate tethering - so they think out a fairytale about the HW disability.
It is not the first time such a case happens.
It would not be any surprise for me Lumia 800 will not be provided with tethering and they will use it for some questionable reasons for to the first time for Lumia 900.
Yeah you'd only need to get the phone interop unlocked (was possible before with a Nokia Network Setting vulnerability) and just edit the registry little bit. The Nokia Lumia hardware can 100% surely do tethering, if they have proper drivers. So it's all software. I remember when I unlocked the tethering on my Samsung Omnia 7 months before the official tethering update was pushed out.
Ok, another source. The nokia support in germany states here that a tethering update will come in early 2012. So I guess well have to be patient...

When pushed on the time frame he said "we are aiming for 4 weeks from launch" and launch in Australia is March 4th. SO good news and hopefully not too long to wait.

You need to print that email out, when the update arrives, march down to the place of business where you were told it would never happen, rub their noses in it and say "bad dog!".
It was Nokia Care who told me it wasn't coming. Not a store. I work for a retailer here in Australia and was trying to get the correct, honest answer for my customers and for all our stores customers.
No one wants to be lied to or misinformed and I am pretty impressed with Nokia that they corrected the wrong answer given by their own care centre. Add to this the woman who gave the wrong information rang me today to apologise and say she had now updated the care centers info so no one gets the wrong information again.
I GUARANTEE no other company would do that level of customer service. I deal with Samsung, Apple, HTC and many more and know they don't care to that degree.

Petitioning AT&T c.e.o. Randall Stepenson to offer bootloader unlocking service

First off I know this has been done before so please either help or keep your negative comments to yourself. Thank you
So I started a petition to AT&T to try to have somthing done about the locked bootloaders on devices purchased from them. And as I've read you guys with the m8 can unlock your bootloader. Not through att but other sources. So I ask you to put your John Hancock on the petition and try to help all of us with att devices so that we can enjoy the freedom that android OS was made for. Link below, I and the development community thank you for your support.

Also I've sent c.e.o Randall Stephenson a e-mail but have had no reply (to be expected). Samsung on the other hand at least replied.

Nothing to set straight. I never said att offered nor did they impede your device from being able to have that service through a third party. But for us Sammy users it's different. We have no third party offering this service and att is not wanting to let Sammy users unlock bootloaders though support software on their site. So we just want what you have, freedom to do with what we purchased. I do thank you for taking the time to reply and hopefully you took the time to sign.

I signed the petition. I don't think ANY vendor should have their Android devices locked. I also don't think any vendor should be expected to un-brick our devices, should we jack them up. I'm the same way with Apple's junk. I jailbroke every Apple product I have had as well.

Current T-Mobile offer?

I was reading on the T-Mobile website about information on KitKat for the Light and I heard someone reply with something interesting. They said "They said that they are now offering a Galaxy Grand Prime upgrade to customers that have a Galaxy Light phones and I suspect cry loud enough. I didn't want to leave T-Mobile, but the issue of carriers abandoning their customers by not forwarding a manufacture supported OS update is something I strongly felt was worth fighting over" Is this true because I might go to T-Mobile to check out that offer. If anyone else has any information on this let me know.
Could you link me to the place the person said this? Thanks

Do NOT buy in the US - does NOT work with modern T-Mobile or AT&T networks

Do NOT buy this phone in the US unless Sony gets its phones approved to work with T-Mobile & AT&T
I have a Sony Xperia X Compact and it is the BEST ANDROID PHONE I have ever had.
Despite that I have to say that NOBODY SHOULD BUY ANY SONY PHONES.
The phone is awesome and technically supports pretty much any 3G and 4G band out there but Sony refuses to get these phones approved by AT&T and T-Mobile for VoLTE.
That means (for T-Mobile as an example) that the Xperia X Compact technically supports T-Mobile's super-duper Band 12 LTE which has almost better coverage than Verizon, BUT because the phone is not approved for VoLTE, Sony phones will almost immediately get disconnected from that T-Mobile tower. You may be standing next to someone with an approved phone that has 100% coverage, yet the Sony Xperia phones will show NO RECEPTION.
Sony phones should be able to at least connect to Band 12 for data but they don't. It may technically have the ability to connect to Band 12 and even use VoLTE, but the tower refusal to keep the connection. Sony then apparently also screwed up the band prioritization, because Sony phones even have issues connecting to non VoLTE networks (eg Band 4).
As a result, ALL SONY PHONES ARE PRETTY MUCH UNUSABLE on T-Mobile and AT&T AS A PHONE.
Do NOT buy any Sony phones if you want to use them on T-Mobile and AT&T, though I can tell you that they are the BEST phones otherwise - just not as a phone.
This is pathetic and there is no response from Sony.

Unproven rumors that it will be voLTE certified. NO CONFIRMATION FROM SONY OR T-MOBILE.
Even so, you won't be able to use the fingerprint sensor, since the international ROM won't support it.
Do NOT buy!!!!

Because Sony ****ED over buyers for the last three phone generations.
Why not stop buying Sony phones until they fix that!?
Because Sony can just as easily choose not to sell phones in the US as they can choose to spend extra to sell unlocked phones. Alot of people buy and they may see the window to release carrier phones again.
Also, because no one else produces a sub-5" android superphone and the XZ1 Compact is the only way to signal that there is a market for them.
I had the Z3 Compact and Z5 Compact. I've been on Samsungs for the last 2.5 years because they've had the smallest US flagships.

I also would buy another phone if there was another sub 4.8 screen and 13MP+ phone with USB C, SD card and 3+GB RAM.
The Xperia X Compact is the best Android device that I have ever owned.
But without VoLTE it is unusable as a phone or even internet connected device on T-Mobile.
I essentially sit on a t mobile tower at work and I don't get reception.
That is just fvkced up.
Selling these phones as Sony is currently doing is the same as not selling them ...

That is interesting since everyone is reporting it not working with LTE. Just check the XDA forum.
There is currently no reason to believe this one too be different.
Man, what's wrong with you? Seriously?
You give this thread an ABSOLUTE imperative title, with capital conjunctions and all - which is BS in the first sentence, and misleading in the second, to say the very least.
Then, my hats off, only in the post you manage to make fit the relevant information that everybody can get to evaluate for itself.
Which, not only is very minor and objectively variable for whatever specific conditions one's have, but now has also that little petty incidental detail of being confirmed by multiple sources.. And it still doesn't make a difference?
Oh, and last but not least, you bring up the goddamn fingerprint problem, as if you couldn't just flash european firmware and call it a straight day.

I'm sorry to say this, but you're clueless. Any phone you buy that's not sold directly by AT&T will not support VoLTE, regardless of manufacturer. Saying it's a Sony thing and putting the blame on them is a dumbass move. I have bought countless unlocked phones from Samsung, LG, OnePlus and Sony of course and none of them support VoLTE or WifiCalling, that's AT&T (and T-Mobile) to blame, not the manufacturer. If you called T-Mobile and AT&T and that's what a clueless rip told you, lol for believing they know anything but how an iPhone works.
