Welcome abroad man!
I love your videos and reviews!
Will you be getting this ZUK z1?!

I'm going to try for sure I've been looking at for a while

Although not a cable but still very convenient to expand the phones storage temporarily or transfer files:
Kingston DataTraveler 64 GB Micro Duo Type C USB 3.1 Gen 1/USB 3.0 Flash Drive
Works great for me.

Warning! Not all USB C to A cables are safe to use! Read this: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/1...ly-dangerous-third-party-cables-and-adapters/
The orzly cable is not OK acording to this, the resistor in it is to small and it can fry the USB-A device you plug into.

For the Zuk Z1 they are! The Lenovo factory and OnePlus original USB C cables have the same error. the OP2 and Z1 dont charge at 3A standard so you have nothing to worry about

I have idea to buy a MicroUSB -> USB C conversor at eBay: http://www.ebay.es/itm/291556075086?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Is this compatible with the Zuk? dangerous?
Thanks

Has anyone found any UK chargers for this? I don't think a shaving adaptor would be able to handle these would it?

Good news!!! I just got in my Pixel yesterday and tested a load of new cables from Orzly and the OnePlus Cables and adapters! Bad news is the OP are def out of spec even the adapter! Good news all the new Orzly cables meet specs video is uploading now!

Wich white one??? MicroSD????
The Y OTG cable doesn't work with the Z1, I reported it in case someone wanted to buy it. Its possible to use USB devices like keyboards or mice, but I wasn't able at all to mount USB flash drives. Its possible to use it as charging cable but OTG function doesn't work at the same time.
The Microusb to USB type-C adapters are for charging and they work good. For OTG you need a dedicated adapter.
BTW Its possible to connect a USB 3.0 Hard Disk without external power supply, the Z1 can handle it It read both NTFS and exFat but isn't allowed to write.

Charging and data yes, it works as long you use a good cable. OTG no, I treid with various adapters but nothing, also using a female to female USB adapter on a Type C cable doens't work. Only mine 2 Type-C to USB 3.0 adapters are able to mount flash memories or HD and not all USB flash drives or SD adapters work.

USB host/HID interface

Here is a companion device for those already using the the Webtop hack.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199443
It's the same OTG USB hub hack used with the Atrix, just wanted to share my setup and testing. So far it works excellent.
Right now, I have a USB keyboard and mouse, a FAT32 flashdrive, and a FAT32 external HDD all hooked up the the hub, and I'm watching a movie
off the HDD.
The basic theory of operation is that in micro usb connectors there is a fifth pin, actually the 4th over in a schematic. That pin is actually the ID pin, when its state changes it indicates to the phone that it USB mode is changing. In our case, we ground it, telling the phone to go into host mode. Now because the phone cant supply power to the USB device, we have the red jumper wire on the hub itself. This is effectively bridging the +5 from the power supply to the phone.
It should be noted that as of this post, i have only tested FAT32 formatted drives with this setup.
I'm working with a friend at the moment on an NTFS module, so the Photon can utilize NTFS drives.
Now, my setup looks a bit off because my connectors are on order and the one in the pictures, is one I cut out of a motorola cable. So it doesn't look pretty, but works great.

It can be any powered hub, if you plan to use an external HDD with it you should make sure the power supply for the hub is at least 2 amps. For now its only USB 2.0, USB 3 isnt compatible. I modified a stock USB micro cable, but you can but a OTG cable that will work with this setup. Like the link below, that is a OTG adapter. Also, the hub would need a few modifications, like i was talking about at the top.

Connected a phat32 hdd and mouse and keyboard non seem to work. My set up is usb to otg micro and judging from my soldering skills you can clearly see I added a white cable to jump from power to usb.

You may want to check your OTG cable. If its not set up properly it will not function. The un-used pin in the micro connector must be grounded. Ive noticed not all the cables you can buy are quite right. Thats why i build my own. I hope to get up rev 2 tomorrow...a bit more in depth. Maybe i can shed some more light on the issue...

Thanks for looking into this.
So, once you've mod a USB hub, are you using a cable that is <male micro USB to female USB A>?
I've not seen that before. Usually, USB cables that have a micro USB on one end will have a male USB A on the other, not a female. I did a quick search and couldn't really find any <male micro USB to female USB A> cables. I also didn't see any female A to female A cables that would allow for the same thing.
Please elaborate, thanks.
Edit: oh, maybe you use a USB 2.0 A to Micro B Female / Male Adaptor?
You need to buy some from amazon search micro usb to usb female. Or ever female usb to female usb they sell for $2 plus shipping. I bought otg cable didn't make a difference had to take it apart as well.

Just a heads up you need to connect your usb power adapter to the red usb from the hub then your otg and phone to the black and keyboard/mouse infra-red or 2.4 ghz stuff to the female usb adapters. Remember red goes to power!
I went back and forth trying to figure it out when all i had to do was push power to red. Duh!!

Ok, I was confused by what jguevara wrote. jguevara, could you tell me if I got this right?
1) Buy this OTG "cable" - it's really just a adapter:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-usb-on-the-go-host-otg-adapter-pair-50774
2) You might also want a hub for powering USB devices
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/cable-style-dual-power-1000ma-usb-2-0-4-port-hub-13526#open full view
The OTG adapter already does the "4th pin to ground" thing described by the OP, so using the adapter on the Photon makes the phone go into USB Host mode.
The phone, acting as host, won't have enough power via the USB port to power many USB devices, like portable hard drives. So that's why you need a powered USB hub. The hub in the link has an extra red USB connector. You can use the Motorola USB power adapter(the one that came with your phone) as a power source for the hub.
Also, I don't think this setup will charge your phone. It will charge devices connected to the other end of the USB HUB, but not your phone, correct? So, if you're using this setup to transfer files from one portable hard drive to another portable hard drive, with the phone acting as the USB host for the transfer, you'll be using up battery power the whole time it's transferring.
Do I have that right? jguevara?

OTG cable like this will work?

http://dx.com/p/cmi-micro-9-pin-mal...samsung-galaxy-note-3-n9000-white-15cm-256164
Would that kind of cable work? The OTG cable I have for my tablet is just a mini USB (not micro!) to USB female, and it works fine. Would that kind of OTG cable work? So I can connect stuff like drives and keyboards.
Thanks!
From the picture it suggest to be a USB 3.0 connector to a USB 2 Connector, since USB 3.0 normally are all blue inside. It schould at least support USB 2 OTG if the USB A connector is missing the additional pins for USB 3 support as the color suggests.
FYI: To my knowledge OTG has the 5 th pin, not found in USB A and B and only are present in mini- and mircro- USB 2.0 connectors connected to ground to identify it as OTG. Thats all the difference to a normal USB mini./micro-cable. When I modified the connector from a mini-USB by connecting the 5th pin to ground and connected it to my Nexus 7 vie a mini- to micro-USB adpapter it didn't work because the adapter connect only the 4 standard pins, also found in USB A and B, through.

That's a USB 3.0 one. It looks like it has 5 pins on the USB part, but yeah.. I really don't know.
So what was the conclusion? That it only works with 5-pin OTG cables? And do you possible know if any of those I linked are 5-pins?
A mini USB 2.0 or 3.0 OTG will work. I have both and they both work fine.

Since it is advertised as USB 2.0 OTG it will most likely only support USB 2.0 transfer speed, despite that it uses what looks like a USB 3.0 micro connector. All USB 3.0 A connector that I own have blue isolation inside the metal frame, independent the color used on the cable or connector, which is either blue or black on my USB 3.0 cable. USB 3.0 A connector have an additional row of connectors removed in the back, that can't be seen unless you look directly in one.
I have been looking for USB 3.0 OTG cable or an USB 3.0 A to micro USB 3.0 to but could not find one advertised yet.

Have you tried the USB 3.0 A to µUSB 3,0 cable that came with the note? As I wrote in a different post I had tried to use this cable that came with my note 3 as well as µUSB 2.0 OTG none worked, even though they worked with the note 2 and Nexus 7 only a few days ago. I could not find how to activate it in the manual.
Some pages show/say you have to activate the USB 3.0 first,
it works only with windows pc and then
it works only for 10' before switching back to USB 2.0 speed.
However I could not find this option in the menu when I connect the Note 3 to my HP Elitebook win 7 USB 3.0 port. Can anyone point out where in the menu this should appear or if additional software is needed?
It does not detect USB 3.0 devices, e.g. like USB 128 GB PNY USB-stick.
This is stupid since it defeats the purpose of providing fast data transfer when you have The only benefit I have from USB 3.0 is that it is less likely that I try to force the USB 3.0 OTG 180° reversed, sind the noth helps.
PS.: My µUSB 3.0 OTG has 4 pins for USB 2.0 and 5 for USB 3.0 in the A female connector and 5 each in the two parts of the µUSB 3.0 male connector

Accessories for Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Mirco USB 3.0 Port

Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Comes with following accessories:
USB Wall Charger
Micro USB 3.0 Cable
S-Pen
The data charge port is the same as galaxy note 3 and galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition.
So how can we take full advantage of Mirco USB 3.0 Port.
The uppermost idea in my mind is your can get an USB 3.0 OTG cable for it. Then you can use a USB mouse or wireless mouse or read your u disk.
What else accessories come to your mind? Add them here and share with us.
You can use micro USB cables with the USB 3 slot on the NotePro.... cross compatible!!!

I have something similar to the proposed samsung port unit (not available yet)...all 3 usb3 ports work; the rj45 port does not. If I plug the lan cable into one of the 3 usb ports, it works fine.
I wonder how many levels of attachments usb3 can handle. Is it different for a tablet than a pc/mac?

It works quite well. You will get an indication that ethernet is connected. Haven't done a comparison between it and wifi, but, yes it another option
charlie
Yes
I bought micro usb3 otg cable mentioned above and usb to ethernet adapter (in my case from apple store). Works just fine. Just make sure you are not using usb3 to ethernet adapter. It probably will not be supported . ( I was trying 'J5 create' usb 3.0 gigabit ethernet adapter - no success)

How can a USB to ethernet adapter work with NotePro 12.2? Did you just plug the usb end of USB to ethernet adapter into the USB port of OTG Cable?

Actually, the usb3 to ethernet adapter DOES work...at least for me. It is what I'm using now. Can also be used as part of a 3 port unpowered hub

I did a speed test Wifi vs 100 Meg Ethernet.
Wifi:
100 Meg Ethernet:
I have yet to find a USB3->GigE that works with this tab. My latest attempt was below. It works fine as a USB 3 hub, but the Ethernet port is not supported on the P900. It does work on my Surface Pro so I may keep it.

A5 ’17 USB OTG: a little research

One of the things I’m really amazed by with the modern PDAs is the USB OTG. So just as I found out that my Galaxy has it, I got myself an adapter (for less than $3) and tested it with several devices. Here’re my results:
USB flash drives: every single one I tried worked perfectly except a 1 GB drive of unknown vendor, which wasn't even recognized by the Galaxy, works okay with PCs thought.
External HDDs: the Toshiba 500 GB USB 3.0 drive wasn't recognized and didn't show any signs of life. Surprisingly, a 320 GB SATA WD Blue in a USB bay was detected and spinned up, but the Galaxy didn't recognize the file system and asked if I want to format it. I didn't, since the disk had some data I needed, but there's definitely a potential.
Input devices: all the mice and keyboards I tried worked as they should, both wired and wireless, which was expected. Which wasn't, is that DualShock3 controller from my PS3 was immediately recognized too without any additional drivers or software, it even let me control the menus. Sadly, that wasn't the case with my Logitech Freedom 2.4 wireless joystick. I guess the power wasn't enough.
Output devices: Sennheiser wired USB headset (basically, the USB sound adapter with the headset attached) worked as it should. HP LaserJet P1102 printer didn't work even with USB printing service installed.
Overally, I got much more then I dreamed of, especially since I heard that the OTG is very poor on a modern devices. DualShock3 success is especially cool.
This is quite weird as I have tried the original Samsung Micro USB OTG adapter, with the little white USB-C adapter and it did not work. This is on A3 2017.
There were rumors that USB OTG was disabled. Which adapter do you have?

The rumors aren't true. The thing is, Type-C uses a different pinout for OTG, so it shouldn't be a combo of Type-C to Micro and Micro to Type-A OTG, it should be a special Type-C to Type-A OTG adapter. The adapter that comes with the device is good for charging only, or so I heard. I’ll photo my adapter, but I got it for almost nothing in a local computers store.

Very interesting. A different pinout for OTG. Yeah I thought it was the combo that shoud have worked.
The little adapter comes with the device is said to be charge and sync. Because when connected to my PC it works. for data transfer.

Here’s the one I got. The site is in Russian, but the pictures are self-explanatory.
I have an OTG now from Aliexpress. It works for my A3 2017. 90 degree angle connector.
Now onto an USB-C to HDMI. The official Samsung EE-HG950 does not work.

So if i understand correctly the little "micro usb connector" that comes with the A5 2017 won't work for anything other than charging? I tried using it with a regular otg cable and it doesn't detect any flash drive, not even a ps3 controller, i don't even get the notification that a usb is plugged in.
But whats weird is if i use a male to male usb cable and connect to to a pc it works just fine. Any idea whats causing this?
Please help. I have the same problem. I have newly bought a5 2017. I already have otg usb drive sandisk. The adapter type c included in the box didn't work fine. Except only for charging when connected to usb 2.0.
My usb otg drive will become useless if it doesn't read by my device. What should i do? Or how to activate maybe my otg support? Tnx in advance.

The adapter from the box is just for charging and data transfer to compuer. If you want to use your flasdisk you can buy a new usb otg for type c slot.

USB-C 'Type C' Accessories and Cables for XZ P - Identify what works with the XZ P ?

Hello,
I'm currently looking for some USB-C cables and adapters for use with the XZ P with only limited success....
Items which I have found do work with the XZ P are:
USB-C to USB A or uUSB Sync-Charge Cables
Anker USB-C to USB 3.1 Adapter - Short [13cm] (equivalent to 'old' USB2 spec OTG function)
[USB Type C Powerline Specification Gen 1]
Flash Drives - A variety of Flash Drives have been successfully recognised by the XZ P using this adapter and mount as normal storage alongside the built-in uSD card.
Micro SD Card Reader - The Lexar C1 microSD Reader works perfectly.
Hard Disc Drives - I have successfully mounted a Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2 TB USB 3.0 Portable 2.5 inch External Hard Drive using this adapter (formatted as exFAT) together with a Lindy 0.5m USB 3.0 Dual Power Cable, 2 x Type A to Micro-B cable. Power is supplied either from a convenient USB port or a portable power bank. Also a Zalman ZM-VE300 external HDD enclosure fitted with a similar Seagate 2TB 2.5" HDD, also exFAT. FAT32 will also work but only up to 32GB with a 4GB file size limit; NTFS is not recognised.
There does not appear to be any sign of the former manual USB Detection option under Settings, but so far Android seems to just auto-detect, albeit without any apparent notification, which seems a little odd, given the system insists on issuing notifications for everything under the sun otherwise...
>> Update - the OS appears to content itself with a notification labelled "Android System" in the drop-down with the drive name shown. You can then click through to see the drive contents from there or access via Settings | Storage & Memory. <<
Anker USB-C to Micro USB (female) Adapter [2 in 1 Pack]
Boweike USB C to USB 3.0 Retractable Cable
MAPUX USB Type C Cable USB to USB C Cable 3 Pack - Three different lengths - [1 x 30cm, 1 x 90cm + 1 x 180cm]
XGUO® USB Type-C to USB Fast Charge Sync - Short [22cm], Flat cable
[USB Type C Specification Gen 1]
DataPeak USB-C to USB-A 3.0 Cable - Short [20cm], Round cable
[Stated as USB3.0]
This one is pending and will be reported when received/tested:
3 in 1 USB C Type C OTG Charging Host Cable
USB-C to 3.5mm Audio Adapters (with/without Charge-Through option)
The USB-C spec for Audio Adapter Accessory Mode says:
USB-C plug supports analog headsets through an audio adapter accessory with a 3.5 mm socket providing four standard analog audio signals (Left, Right, Mic, and GND). The audio adapter may optionally include a USB-C pass-through plug to allow 500 mA device charging.
But I have had no joy with the following:
Type C USB-C to 3.5mm Audio Jack Adapter, ADTRIP 15cm
Belker Type C to 3.5mm Audio Headphone Stereo Adapter ConnectorDISDIM 2 in 1 Type C to 3.5mm Audio Headphone Jack Adapter with Charger
Motorola Moto Z Connector Type C to 3.5mm Headphone Stereo Adapter Connector
None of these audio adapters seem to be recognised by the phone, either natively or by trying to force a connection using SoundAbout Pro .
It is currently unclear whether Sony have implemented the USB Type C Audio Adapter Accessory Mode (Analogue Audio output) - if anyone has any information on implementation and/or any dongles / software combinations which would facilitate this functionality will be greatly appreciated !
The following uSD Card Reader has also been tried without success:
Rocketek USB C Portable Card Reader for Micro SD Cards
Other Potential Connectivity Members have reported do not work in other posts
- USB-C to Ethernet
- USB-C to HDMI
- USB-C to DisplayPort
- USB-C to VGA
It appears that video-out capability is probably not present, but again, if anyone has any definitive information we can capture it would be useful !
There is a substantial amount of information regarding various USB-C cables collated by Benson Leung of Google on USB-C cables, including an 'approved' list, which incorporates some of those mentioned above.
Best regards,
Kevin

I've personally had great success with Type C cables from Rampow. I just wish they had a 6' or 10' cable. Here is a link to the Amazon page.
USB C Cable RAMPOW Type C to USB 3.0 Braided Charging Cable [3.3ft/Space Gray] - for LG G5/V20, Nexus 5X/6P, Samsung Galaxy S8, Moto Z, Nintendo Switch and other Devices https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4OKUB8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YTttzbJ2FPQTP
I borrowed one of these from a buddy with an SGS8+ and bought a 2pk for myself-- works great so far.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M8QRM7S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also picked up some adapters. Seem to be working on the two cables I've tried so far (just for charging)

Hi Kevin. Thanks for linking to my USB-C to HDMI thread.
If you read that thread again you will find your answer on whether or not the Xperia XZ premium supports audiovisual output to TV using a simple USB-C to HDMI cable!
USB-C to 3,5mm Audio Jack
I bought two, in order to be sure and both work like a charm, just plug and play:
XIIVIO Audio Adaptor Type C to 3.5 mm
HTC USB-C Digital to 3.5mm adaptor
I had success with the Dell Business Dock WD15 with my XZ1c (which is basically the same device family, so it should work).
I could only try out the USB hub part of the dock, tho (had access to keyboard, mouse and drives), not sure yet about the display and ethernet.
I once tried the docking station from my nintendo switch.
Phone starts charging but no video/audio output.
