Is Android OS on Xperia Z4 close to vanilla? How to backup the entire system? - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have been Samsung users for a few years. I am considering to buy the Xperia Z4.
Some users mentioned that Samsung put a lot of bloatwares on their devices. How is the case of the Xperia Z4?
For Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, we use Keis to backup the system but the software does not backup everything. We need to root the device to do it. How about the Xperia Z4? Does Sony provide software to backup the entire system (including settings, passwords) ?
Thanks.

You can try adb backup.

Software is close to Vanilla, the most apps can be uninstalled.
I can't help you with backup, all I know is that you can backup TA (DRM keys) only with root and locked bootloader. But root is only possible with unlocked BL at the moment.

Backup Xperia Neo possible?

I am trying to backup my xperia neo to restore apps and data to a new device that I do not want to root yet. I have rooted my xperia neo so I can do pretty much anything with it but I want to restore its data in the other device that is not rooted. I tried Helium but it’s not working, it keeps saying that I have a password set which I do not have set. I also tries SimpleADBBackup but it fails. I think I understood that my xperia neo doesn’t have backup allowed. I tried using adb backup and t also fails. Is there anything I can do? It could be useful to have a way to allow backups on my neo. I am thinking of flashing a ROM but I must be sure this rom allowers backups. Can anyone help me?

[Q] Backup data before root

Hey guys,
I've bought a new xperia z2 and Updated it to 4.4.4 but then I realized that root is only possible with a downgrade. So my question is:
Can I backup my data **without** root, downgrsde, root the phone, then go back up to 4.4.4 without a data loss? (Or at least a method with small data loss)
What 'data' do you want to backup? Apps like sms backup+ will backup you messages and call log. Sony has an app that can backup apps and data. Also titanium backup may be able to backup user apps.
Helium is one app that can backup all the data, sony backup sometime misses some app data, but will backup the apps themselves, not much useful in cases where the app is 50MB and then downloads 500MB of data after opening(like some games), helium takes care of that. just take the backup before downgrading, move it to your card or PC, downgrade, root, flash the latest recovery and ROM of your choice, then move the backup to your phone, (doesnt matter internal or external location, helium can select both for restore), and restore, et voila, you have your data. personally checked on games like real racing, poweramp player, messages(but to be sure better use SMS backup+ as suggested by our brother above), and even different browsers. but it does not work on system apps like youtube or chrome. no idea why.
Im just a bit nervous about rooting it as ive read online that Sony have put something in there Xperia models that you have to de-activate (something on there website) But if you do that then your phones warranty is completely void.
Id do it if I knew 100% how to do it and if it was 100% safe, Do you know of any guides for dummies for the 23.0.1.A.0.167 build number? Thanks.

just backup your original firmware before root. if you root your phone you will void warranty but if you re-flash your backed up original firmware then warranty will be back

[Q] Full system backup / disaster recovery backup ?

Hi,
I want to do full system backup / disaster recovery backup before I try to root or CyanogenMod on my Xperia Pro MK16i.
In case changing the OS or rooting the phone will fail I do want to have possibility to recover to my shipped OS.
Basically I want to do what Norton Ghost or Clonezilla does for PCs.
Is there any software for Android phones that can do that ?
Cheers,
czezz
Is there any way to completely backup/image my phone before I try to root it ?
I am asking about something like GHOST/Clonzilla for PC.

[Q] Sony Xperia Backup & Restore

Hi.. I had used Sony Xperia L before and after a year it started to misbehave. Fed up of that, I backup my contacts, conversations, app data of candy crush saga, hike, instagram and some others on my memory card. Now I bought Sony Xperia M4 AQUA DUAL. I want all that backup data on memory card to be restored in my new Xperia.. But I cannot find a way to get it done. Please if anyone can help me out with this. It would be very helpful and grateful of you. Help me out ASAP.
Backup & Restore doesn't work? It should be able to restore your back up on every xperia phone. There are something should be pointed out:
1. Your contacts will be synced with your google account.
2. With conversations, I recommend an app SMS Backup & Restore
3. About app data, we can use titanium to back up and restore apps with condition the phone is rooted. But till now, rooting is still stuck, so just do a fresh installation then overwrite data with the old data may work, I'm not sure.

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who have this problem. I knew that Google backup was a pain but I think we have discovered that it is worse than expected!
I've done the same process as you on my HTC one : backup on google account. With my new Xperia Dual M4 (E2333 5.0) Google is not able to download all my previous backup! I've done it a lot of times but it's no works! (Tap&go is joke)
I've tried to do the process on Xperia Z3 compact (5.0.2) and it works well, idem for Galaxy Note 4. I thought the problem was about android version but I tried to restore backup on other device (by reseting all settings) BQ Aquaris E5 and it’s not work neither… I think its a random process, sometimes it works, sometimes no…I don’t know what to think about this. Maybe the next version 5.0.2 on M4 Aqua will solve this but I’m not sure.
It’s a shame that Google can’t provide a native tool backup that works orrectly and that allow you to switch between Android devices easily.Android backup and restore is really a martydorm. Apple iOS is better: all things work!
Maybe you should try CM Backup. it backup and restore main settings (sms, call, agenda etc.) but for your apps, you’ll have to download them manually from PlayStore. Or with Xperia Transfer...

Does the Xperia Z5 Compact support adb backup and restore?

I'm looking forward to buy this smartphone and would like to know if it supports adb backup and restore before buying it. It is known that previous versions of Xperia don't support it.
Yes, it does support it and works perfectly.
However Sony provides its own backup and restore feature on Settings, which is much preferred because also backs up and restores launcher configuration among other things.
